XFinity -- It's Comcastic!

xfinitylogo.jpgStarting next week, Comcast will be rolling out a new brand name -- Xfinity -- for its cable television, telephone and Internet connection products beginning in Baltimore and 10 other markets.

The company is NOT changing its corporate name to Xfinity -- it's just the product offerings that will carry that new brand.

So, if you're a subscriber to any of its services, you may see the new name on your bill, but your money will still most definitely be going to the same ol' Comcast.

Comcast basically said the new name reflects all the changes and upgrades they've made to their cable, voice and Internet offerings in recent years.

Other markets that will see the name change and Xfinity-branded services include: Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington D.C., Chicago, Portland, Seattle, Hartford, Augusta, Chattanooga, parts of the Bay Area and San Francisco, with more markets to come later this year, Comcast says.

So, what do you think of the name?

I think it's a cheap way for Comcast to try to fool people into thinking they finally have another option in Baltimore City.

A name change isn't going to make the customer service better, that's for sure.

Bring on FiOS!

Last gasp :) It's brand-washing (is that a word yet?) to smear over their customer ill will.

"People don't love Comcast, so let's change the name. We'll be more edgy."

I think they'll be at least as successful as Sprint. (ref. http://www.fiercewireless.com/story/sprint-rebanding-will-cost-billions-more-years-ahead/2009-03-03)

What Neal said (http://twitter.com/slantsixneal/status/8683356483).

Personally, I'm not thrilled with the name. It leaves the consumer with too many questions. A company like Comcast, with a reputation for poor service, will leave itself wide open for the barrage of jokes and jeers that will go along with a name change.

As a naming firm we conducted a nationwide survey on what consumers thought of the name. Over 30% thought it sounded like a new condom or a porn site. Look at the results here http://tinyurl.com/xfinity

Is there any update on whats going on with FiOS in the City?

Xfinity-Spixfinity-whatever, People, It's only television entertainment, tv is free with an antenna, the library has free internet. Do you remember the days before the internet? Get a life.

How many ways can you spell monopoly?

I totally agree with wheelsee! EVERYTHING is a "monopoly" these days. Ever read the back of your personal care products and noticed how a rediculous percentage of them are put out by Proctor and Gamble. I don't see people complaining about the lack of "choices" or that razor blades cost $20. Guess what, having cable and internet in your home is a LUXARY not a necessity! If you think Comcast is BS, don't use it and stop complaining.

warning. i'm in the boston market, with the new name comes a $10 increase in monthly charge, WITH NO NOTICE OF INCREASE. also happened to 2 co-workers

This is actually a very interesting subject, as Comcast obviously spent a lot of effort on the rebrand but failed to implement a comprehensive plan (especially in the digital marketplace)

I wrote an article about the brand / reputation change on my blog, http://socialmediareputation.com/xfinity

In a nutshell, Comcast did a rebrand change and fell prone to thinking that consumers have a very short memory and don't know how to use Google to ask questions.

If major corporations continue to do this, we'll see a lot of new brands go immediately into the "deadpool" of branding mistakes.

Try a 40% increase from last Comcast bill and first Xfinity bill with no up grade in service. You can do that when you are the only game in town.

Well, Comcast, Xfinity, or whatever they call themselves (I call them rip-off), just got Baltimroe City customers again. I received a mailing that stated that oon or about April 14, we can finally experience the new HD channels that customers in Baltimore County currntly enjoy. Well, today is April 14, and there are no new HD channels. Please, Verizon--give us FIOS in Baltimore City.

I was told Baltimore City will reduce the analog channels and add new HD channels on April 21 or April 24. There was a delay in getting digital adapters distributed. (Probably because of people waiting until the last minute to order them.) We'll see.

Price increase effective May 1. (I'm sure that will be right on time). Unfortunately, FiOS has stopped expanding to concentrate on the areas that are already wired for service. If FiOS were around as competition we would have gotten the new Comcast HD channels last year.

The new HD channels were added in Baltimore City this morning.
