Quick: your first impression of Apple iPhone's new 3.0 OS

I've been itching all day to upgrade my poor, outdated iPhone 3G (yes, I still have 3GS envy but still can't get outta my contract till October 2010), but I didn't have time to do it this morning and I'll be at work for awhile.

So, I'm turning to you, BaltTechies, to give me your early, first impressions of the new operating system. Are you ga-ga over cut-n-paste? Are you uber-jazzed over the new universal search?

What is your favorite new feature, or features? Does your phone feel faster or slower or about the same?

Give me your quick take here. I'd like a heads up on what to expect.

:: Here's where to go to upgrade on Apple's site.

:: And here's what people are saying about it on Twitter.

It took a while for it to download from iTunes (thanks for the heads up about the procedure - I kept doing a software update to no avail)

Immediately after installation, some of my apps were a little sluggish but I restarted and it seems to have cleared up.

The landscape keyboard is amazing.

I agree. Lot easier to bang out emails now. I also like the universal search and my early sense is that my battery drains a little slower. But I'll have to put it through the paces some more. -gs

Woe is Gus and his clearly outdated 3G.

Soon, you too will have cut, copy, and paste just like all the big smartphones have. :-P

LOLZ. What is this outdated piece of plastic doing glued to my hip?! -gs

Well, here are my favorites so far (on the iPod Touch):

- copy/paste (of course)
- auto-login / safari login auto-fill (big time saver for those short trips to starbucks)
- safari: press and hold link to copy or open in new window
- universal search
- mail search
- ipod: when playing back podcasts, you can play back at regular speed, 2x speed or 1/2 speed with a simple toggle switch

The overall speed of the OS seems to be about the same.

Oooh, thanks. I didn't know about the Safari press-and-hold link trick or the new iPod playback functionality. Thanks! (I've been a little underwater this week paying attention to non-iPhone related news, because, yes, there is a wider world out there beyond our "JesusPhones," as @jjthomas puts it. ;-) -gs

1)Flash player support
2)Quick back option without going to home screen while switching between apps.
3)File browsing and storing
4)Option to attach images, file etc from email app itself.
5)Multiple signature options
6)Manual rotate gesture option
7)Notes app should be more powerful word process (fonts, text size etc)
8)All Grouping of contacts for test message e.g. friend and family groups.
9)App for grouping key social networking sites(for posting universal photos, text to all social networking sites together.
10) Auto spell check in safari browser (like mozilla) when adding text in twitter, facebook leaving comments at blog etc.
11)Build in Flash in camera for night photo shot
12) Front facing camera for video Chat
13) Use cover flow for using multitasking third party apps (limit to 5 apps, not to drain the battery life)
14)Thin quick time player app to run video downloaded from web.
15)Group notification alert or not attended tasks(missed MMS, SMS, PHONE, Chat message, meeting, event etc)on single screen.
