A call for Baltimore-area tech events

We're entering the slow summer season and my tech calendar is starting to gather cobwebs.

Do you have a techy-minded or tech-related event going on in July and August? Job fairs? Networking events? Contests and competitions for geeks? Let me know.

Better yet: leave it in the comments below so everyone else can see, too. I'll try to plug it into the events calendar the next chance I get.

I can't promise I'll be at every single evening event, but I try to go to at least one per week. Keeps me from watching TV and playing on Facebook. :-)

Hey Gus, me and some others have recently been talking about a organizing a new tech event. It'd be something along the lines of startupdrinks.com... basically a way to get all the various startups in the area to talk to each other; sharing tips, tricks, and pitfalls to avoid. Hopefully we'd also be able to get the attention of potential mentors (people who've "been there and done that") and have them participate as well.

It's all very much in the planning stages, but we'll let you know when we have a set date for our events for sure!

Sounds like a fine idea, especially the drinks part! -gs

Hi Gus,

Saturday is the Annual Worldwide Amateur Field Day: http://www.arrl.org/FieldDay . A friend gave me this announcement for the Jessup location (one exit down 295 from Arundel Mills Mall):

Amateur Radio Field Day – June 27
When: Sat., June 27 through Sun., June 28
Where: 7553 Wigley Ave, Jessup, MD
Time: From 2 p.m. Saturday until 2 p.m. Sunday (24 continuous hours)
The National Electronics Museum Amateur Radio Club (NEMARC) will be operating in this
national Amateur Radio Field Day event, which is a combination radio contest and emergency
preparedness exercise. NEMARC will be operating six portable radio stations as the club will attempt to make as many radio contacts as possible within 24 hours, using HF, VHF, UHF and satellite communications in voice, Morse code and modern digital operating modes.
Anyone interested in Amateur Radio is invited to come on out by and visit us. Information about the museum, amateur radio will be provided, and opportunities for both licensed amateurs and unlicensed people to operate the radios.
A map is available on request by email to james.nowotarski@ngc.com
