This might shock you, but Bill and Hillary Clinton's people are still seething over Hillary Clinton's defeat in the Democratic primaries.
From the New York Times Wednesday comes word that those close to the Clintons are keeping Nixonian lists of disloyal former associates who have defected to the Obama camp. A less polite term might be "traitors."
Says Mark Leibovich's piece:
"The Clintons get hundreds of requests for favors every week," said Terry McAuliffe, the chairman of Mrs. Clinton's presidential campaign. "Clearly, the people you're going to do stuff for in the future are the people who have been there for you."
Mr. McAuliffe, who knows of [Doug] Band's diligent scorekeeping, emphasized that "revenge is not what the Clintons are about." The accounting is more about being practical, he said, adding, "You have to keep track of this."Mr. Band, who declined to comment, is hardly alone in tallying those considered to have crossed the former candidate or the former president in recent months by supporting Mr. Obama. As the Obama bandwagon has swelled, so have the lists of people Clinton loyalists regard as some variation of "ingrate," "traitor" or "enemy," according to the associates and campaign officials, who would speak only on condition of anonymity.
Many names on these unofficial lists aren't hard to decipher. They begin with Bill Richardson, the New Mexico governor and former Clinton cabinet member who announced his support for Obama back when Obama and Hillary Clinton were at each other's throats. Add Rep. James Clyburn, the powerful Democrat from South Carolina who defied the Clintons and came out from Obama, and Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill, an early and vocal Obama supporter who was one of several prominent Democratic women to go with Obama.
Also counted as NFOBH (No Friends of Bill and Hillary): MSNBC in toto, Matt Drudge, Todd Purdum, the entire state of Iowa, the Democratic National Committee, the weather, gravity, and the Harlem Globetrotters. (Okay, we made the final three up, but it doesn't stretch credibility all that much to include them.)
Bill Clinton is said to have an encyclopedic memory of those who have let him down. The article also says that Hillary Clinton's backers have their own, separate lists of who harmed the campaign and that the former president is atop it.
Should be a fun summer in Chappaqua.

The most amazing thing to me was how the press just turned on the Clintons and was so biased in favor of Obama that it was very hard to stomache as a fan of the Clintons. Had the press been fair about it it would not have bothered me as much but they were just blatant. They didnt even try to hide their bias towards Obama. If Obama had won the popular vote and lost the nomination the way Hillary did the press would still be harping on it now. Jesse and Al would be marching on the DNC in Florida and Michigan. Obama winning was not the will of the people. It was the will of the press and the elders of the DNC. Howard Dean hates HIllary. What this Dem nomination process taught me was that racism is wrong but sexism is 100% acceptable.

Vinny,
You're post smacks of arrogance and sour grapes. What you wrote is tantamount to saying that Obama voters are all a bunch of stupid and/or sexist sheep. When in fact the scope of people who support Obama is far, wide, and deep. The old, the young, the poor, the rich, veterans, people of all colors, moderate Republicans and Independents.
Take a look at the size of the crowds who came to Obama events. Do you remember the size of the crowd in winter time, in Springfield when he announced. The media didn't make that happen.
The truth of the matter is that the Clintons made some tactical and strategic errors while Obama ran a better campaign. And thats the truth.

It's funny how members of the media whon glorified the Clintons are now saying and writing the same things Clinton critics have said for 16 years. Having said that, it's also amazing to see the total and overt support of Obama by same media. There are several disturbing comments in this piece by James Oliphant. Tribune reporters biases for Obama are alarming and only make the case that readers should not accept Tribune editorial coverage this election season, It is shameful to see that Tribune readers will not get sound, even-handed journalistic coverage. Very shameful.

All those who conspired against Hillary will never go “unpunished” Hillary will surely have the last laugh! As a black man, i know how the Clintons stood tall with our community in times of need. It only shows how ungrateful we can be.
But to those Hillary haters in Congress, pray so that you do not loose your seat the next time around. Obama no doubt will end up exactly as his co-travellers namely Ted, Kerry, Howden, and John Edward. They all won the Democratic primary and lost the White House. “Watch my lips”

Doug Sook-you are wrong! Obama's support is not only not deep, he is a very weak candidate!. Vinny is pointing out the cold hard facts!! Hillary prevailed in the diversity of her voting bloc, and the voting bloc that democrats need to win the White House. She has the resume, the history of being a doer. She fought for health care when no one else would and stuck with it despite a well funded and well organized corporate campaign against her!! She is heroic, she has proven to be the true transendent leader via sheer grit and determination. Obama will need to find a way to attract voteres other than hollywood, ultra progressives and African Americans. The Clintons are the ONLY democrats to have gained the White House successfully in 30 years!! Such is no small accomplishment and you and Obama's supporters thread on the Clintons at your peril because it remains to be seen if Obama's coalition alone can win or if he can get enough of Hillary's vast, deeper and more diverse voting bloc. More importantly, for me anyways, Hillary is the true people's candidate. The majority of her voters are the vast majority of neglected working people that make this country run day in and day out. They make our world funcation daily and go unappreciated daily. Hillary has them and they are loyal to her. Obama does seem, right ly or not, elitist just by his voting bloc.

Lola - are we living on the same planet, are we watching the same election results. Are you saying HRC mostly white and Hispanic's are the democratic base? Please, I know you know that the black community has been the most loyal group of democratic supporters, and she did not have them at all. No offense, but she simply cannot win without them
BTW - the last time I checked, I do not think anyone could call young or black people elite. I am sure most of them will want to be, but only HRC and McCain had more that $100 million coming in, in the last 10 years.

Hillary's campaign manager didn't even bother to refute the claim that they provided the Drudge Report with that picture of Obama in traditional Somali dress. Think about that while you're playing the victim and whining about retribution. Oh, and Obama was born in Hawaii, not Kenya. Try checking your facts before you post.
Posted by: Dominick | June 11, 2008 1:15 PM
It baffles me when I read about Hillary's supporters being bitter and threatening to vote Republican. Bitter about what, that Obama cheated or what?` That the primary/caucus was not setup by the Clinton machinery for Hillary to cruise to coronation? What are they bitter about? I can understand if they are no too happy for backing the wrong horse which is okay. Do they know that there has to be just one winner/nominee?

Most women who voted for Hillary did so based solely on the fact that she is a woman and not because they thought she would make the best President. At the start of all of this, I was leaning toward Hillary, but the more I listened to her, the more obvious it became that she would say anything to get elected. When I started listening to Barack, it was clear he was speaking from his heart and truly cares about the American people.

David,
True AA and young are not elites, but Hillary has the support of more people of color than she is acknowledged for. You lump "Hispanics and Whites" and seems to be a tactic to diminish her supporters and cleverly imply something bad. Hillary has women, and the vast of majority of working people, faith based voters, jewish voters, Asian voters; And, by way, she would in my opinion, probably still enjoy the much stronger support she enjoyed with AA had Obama and his campaign not been so underhanded and calculating by slandering her as a racist!. She has the people that make the country work and function; I don't see how those voters easily transfer to Obama. And "hispanics" are a hugely diverse group that can swing elections (i.e Arnold in CA). I hope Obama can get Hillary's voting bloc. I truly wish that for him and for the country, but I am just much more analytical about it because I fail to see the big deal about him. I mean he has been in the Senate so briefly that he has not accomplished any signature issue or fight that he can take credit for. Where is the beef? Even on the philanthropic side, Hillary gives a substantial part of her income to good causes. Obama barely gave a few thousand. Those thigns I look at, how do people live, what have they done to match what they claim to be. His potential for greatness resides in people's imagination (great to be this inspiring) , the reality is very different. In Illinois he didn't seem to have emerged as the Martin Luther King type he is being pushed as of. There is no signature issue that he has fought for and won that improved people's lives!! Where is the beef?? McCain has a much more substantial biography of accomplishment and personal challenges that he overcame. Perhaps, I am too much of an independent, but I reject things that seem too good to be true or to aggressively pushed. Obama's tactics and media push reminds me of soda pop campaigns, even his logo reminds me of Pepsi. Hillary is real deal, true blue and now a transendent leader by the way she took on this fight with all the powers the be browbeating her to leave the stage. I don't knon if I will vote for Obama. The cynical and calculating way in which Obama and his campaigned smeared HIllary as a racist disturbs me greatly. I don't want to support anyone that does that. Regardless of what is said, the fact is that Hillary-and Bill for that matter have always supported AAs, minorities and women!! She has been a does, A DOER, Even the rethoric of transformative politics, she proved it by sticking it out. she was pushed out when she was WINNING!! She won more votes and beat Obama in many places by 20 points andupwards-another fact that shows Obama's weaknesses. In the end, if Obama can make his smoke and mirrors translate into reality, we will have MccCain as president. Democratic leaders have decided to take that risk by pushing such a compelling candidate so ungraciously out of the race.

Mark: Maybe you don't know that Hawaii is part of the United States.
In fact, McCain was born in Panama. (to a military family)

I connot believe the ignorance on the blog.
First of all, it's a blog, not a researched and fact checked piece. It is held to a different editorial standard.
Second, if you can't offer proof of your claims other than your personal opinion or impression then that is all it will be viewed as, an opinion. "Woulda, coulda, shoulda" hypotheticals show your ignorance.
Third, the Democratic primary process was put in place over 20 years ago. Obama had nothing to do with it. Hillary and her representatives were on the Rules and By-laws cmte when they adopted the position to penalize FL and MI. Hillary agreed with the decision. You can't cry sour grapes when you agree to the rules and you lose.
Fourth, Mark, I don't know whether to laugh at you or pity you based on your level of ignorance or even figure out if you're joking.
Fifth, Hillary got out maneuvered, out organized and out witted. MSNBC, CNN and the national news all reported the same thing. The Clinton camp had no plan after Feb 5th. When Obama won Iowa, everything happened fast and the Clinton campaign didn't have time to catch up. Patty Solis Doyle and Mark Penn had the wrong plan and they were Hillary's hand chosen people. She made changes, but they were too late. If this was a measure of her judgement, it was completely wrong.
If you can refute my claims, then please do so. I would like to see facts or quotes.
Lastly, if you are a Dempcrat and choose to vote for McCain based on the fact that you hate Obama or are bitter that Hillary lost, then you prove my point that you either only voted for Hillary because she was a woman, or just don't know the issues. Hillary and Obama have the same platform on over 90% of the issues.

As an independent it is easy to see that Obama is an empty suit. Have you ever read the story "The Emperors New Clothes"? It fits perfectly with the political atmosphere surrounding Obama. It's like a bad movie but nobody wants to admit it because they like the actor. Heres a quote from the story:
"The emperor walked beneath the beautiful canopy in the procession, and all the people in the street and in their windows said, "Goodness, the emperor's
new clothes are incomparable! What a beautiful train on his jacket. What a perfect
fit!" No one wanted it to be noticed that he could see nothing, for then it
would be said that he was unfit for his position or that he was stupid. None of
the emperor's clothes had ever before received such praise.
"But he doesn't have anything on!" said a small child.
"Good Lord, let us hear the voice of an innocent child!" said the father,
and whispered to another what the child had said.
"A small child said that he doesn't have anything on!"
Finally everyone was saying, "He doesn't have anything on!"
The emperor shuddered, for he knew that they were right, but he thought, "The
procession must go on!" He carried himself even more proudly, and the chamberlains
walked along behind carrying the train that wasn't there."
Oh yes, the procession must go on and Obamas faithful minions proudly march behind
the naked truth bearer!
HA :)

Linda,
You are extremely mistaken about your views. Most women support Hillary because she has fought for our issues and healthcare is the most obvious one. Your conclusions are not very sound. She has a history of results. You are not alone in your conclusion that you support Obama because "listening to him" made you realize "he was speaking from his heart". And, how does one determine that? Impossible!! I see the world as being complex, full of surprises and what matters at the end is the outcome, the results. Obama is compelling in his personal biography yes, and this why so people support him, his personal journey, but is not enough for me. I didn't start supporting Hillary and never thought I would, but her grit, perseverance and courage made me stop and look at her. I took her seriously as of then and I grown to really like this tough lady and as I learned about her I realized she is the real deal! She has been there for the issues, and has been willing to take on the fight. Like with Al Gore, America was robbed of the chance to have a greatly experienced, tough and courageous leader who would have transformed the country and done great for us. She is the best we could have gotten. Her grit reminds me of the people that founded this country, strong, stubborn courageous and inspiring. Oh, and no I am not bitter. I am just simply very clear about who I support and why. Imay write in Hillary's name and it is okay for me if I do that because I will be voting my conscience, my beliefs.
Posted by: Lola Cornwell | June 11, 2008 2:13 PM
Calm down. If Obama were just an empty suit, then the Clintons would have bested him. As it is, Obama is the nominee, and Clinton is not. Obama and his team must have done something right. Give a little credit, the Clintons had every advantage, there must be something to Obama.

Obama ran a smart campaign on every level. He showed he could organize and execute a brilliant run at the Whitehouse. Hillary to her credit ran a spirited campaign. In the end Obama won and that's all there is to it. The main thing now is to elect a democrat and save this nation from four more years of McBUSH policy. Obama 2008

Why do favors for people who betray you? Damn straight you keep a list.
It must seem surreal to Clinton fans how the media was so pro-Obama during the primary.
However, I doubt the media will be so pro-Obama in the coming weeks.
Remember what the media establishment is: a network of mega-corporate megaphones. This is the same force that trashed Gore for Bush and helped Bush lead the nation into war.
At least they got the strongest candidate out of the way. With the popularity of the Clintons among middle Americans, universal health care was almost a sure bet this time around.
Posted by: Austin Austin | June 11, 2008 3:15 PM
Lola, If Hillary is so "trancendant" why didn't she win by huge margins?
And if you really believe that the outcome and the results matter, then you should hold the dismal failure that was Clinton's national health care plan against Hillary. She was in charge, and she blew it badly.

McCain 08!!!

Democrat will come together against the greater evil John McBUSH. Obama ran a great campaign and he won me over. I had even went so far as to max out on my contribution to Hillary before Barack entered the race. I've said it before and I'll repeat. Hillary looked great in the first couple of debates but after Iowa her campaign took on a tone I didn't care for. All the negative Clinton tactics resurfaced and it turned me off. In the mean time Obama had a great message and I believe he will make an outstanding president. So I hope Hillary supporters will get over it and come together to defeat that lame old jerk McCain!

All right all you Clintonistas, let us reduce this to the basics so you finally understand. Politics, at the end of the day, is a populrity contest. People vote for the person they like - and don't vote for the nperson they dislike. More people disliked Hillary than liked her. GET OVER IT! It isn't as if you got not asked to attend your high school prom.
As for the Clinton's "get even list" - considering they are now a receding force in American political life, the implied threat of such a list is about as frightening as being attacked by an enraged tree sloth. Yawn!

I must say there are some very good comments here,,,especially the 1st one.. I could have not said it better myself,,, Hillary supports are acting this way b/c she won the popular vote..meaning that the people voted for her!!! but since in the political aspect we really don't count Obama won... get the drift... and it just goes to show that being white, black, hispanic, female, male or whateva the hell one is it has to do with she knows what she is doing and he dont,,,,,,,, the people want a change for the positive he just wants a change as for a colored male in office... I just don't understand how someone with such lil background can out win an individual with 40 years of political background... beats the hell out of me... I bet if she was a colored male she would of blown Obama away or if she was a colored woman I bet she would of won as well.... I am not racest but the truth of the matter is thats what it came down to... b/c it cannot be based on experience.. and with a racist wife, and pastor just goes to show what he intales.... sorry it takes a Clinton to clean up after a Bush and we just have another 4 years to worry about America..

The Democratic Party needs both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
If Obama does not put Clinton on the ticket- I will not vote for him. And I bet millions of others will not vote, or will vote for McCain. Not a spoiler or getting even. Just don't trust him totally. Gut level feelings need to be trusted.
