The Swamp

by Mark Silva

At "American Solutions,'' a project of the former House Speaker, Newt Gingrich, they are accepting solutions for problems in their "Solutions Lab.''

Like this one for illegal immigration: "All Illegal Immigrants, not just those who commit a felony, should be deported.''

That's the solution submitted by "Silver Fox,'' who notes that "the Federal government from the Executive Branch to the Judical Branch, to the Congressional Branch have totally ignored US law with regard to Immigration. Children of Illegals, who are automatically US Citizens have the choice of returning to their Native Country with their parents or if they choose to stay in the US they have little option but to get a job or fall through the cracks of the "Child Welfare: System. This may sound harsh, but harsh is what we need.

"Illegal Immigrants must be located and deported under US Code,'' the Fox concludes. "There is no other answer.''

Another contributor has identified "Our Real Enemy.''

Atheism.

"Reagan's enemy was Communism,'' a poster named Kirk wrote in to the Solutions Lab. "Our enemy is not just Terrorism but Atheism. All who fail to love Jesus Christ with all their hearts are the enemy from prostituted Christians to the godless and followers of false gods around the world. ''

The solution: "Conversion.''

The recently launched American Solutions for Winning the Future bills itself as "a unique non-partisan organization designed to rise above traditional gridlocked partisanship, to provide real, significant solutions to the most important issues facing America.'' It is committed "to defend america and our allies abroad and defeat our enemies, to strengthen and revitalize America's core values, and to move government into the 21st Century.''

It's general chairman is Gingrich, the Georgia Republican who considered running for president this year but said that it would get in the way of his political action ambitions. It seems, though, that the Solutions Lab has a long way to go to match the Contract with America.

OMG this just proves again how out of touch these people are and how much worse they are than the infidels in the middle east!
This is America - land of the free - Mr Gingrich not Iran!
You bible thumpng, bigoted, racist people should find a small island somewhere where you can rule yourselves into extinction!

Government's role as regards religion should be ONLY to make sure that no one is prohibited from worshipping any God they want, without letting any of the religious groups gain the ability to dictate legislation or policy.

The Religious Right, the Social Conservatives, whatever the hell they're calling themselves these days, are a dangerous threat to our way of life -- perhaps not as imminently threatening as the Islamic terrorists (as in, NO there were NO CHRISTIAN terrorists involved in 9/11 and it's not the Christians who are fighting us in Iraq, Afghanistan or Iran), but equally insidious in wanting to claim our Government for themselves and those who think exactly like them. Their goal is to surrender all will to God (or, "God as we the leaders of the Religious Right interpret His will") and claim freedom in submission to the Word.

There's no difference between the Swastika and the Cross when it comes to providing a symbol under which the masses are supposed to unite in blind, thoughtless obedience. Totalitarianism is totalitarianism.

will they search for a solution to republican family values?

WOW Op!!! Your analagy is so right on!

it's not the Christians who are fighting us in Iraq, Afghanistan or Iran),

Actually, literally tens of thousands of "terrorists" have been killed or captured wearing Christian crosses in Iraq alone. But this is a story you won't hear in the so-called Liberal media.

That is why the Ridiculous Republicans are bankrupt of ideas, they rely on the Incompetent, to try to lead them !! Chairman Getrich is all about the money, that is, if he is not serving divorce papers to his present wife, while she is in the hospital for cancer treatment. Oh, those " Compassionate Republicans ", they turnout out to be more like the " Bought and Paid for Republicans " !!

Ain't no Christion like a Republican Christian. Now where can I sign to shoot non-believers?

Great post by Mark Silva; it almost rises to the stellar heights of a ThinkProgress post.

The reader might want to note that Mark Silva has almost assuredly cherry-picked comments that he knew would get a rise out of his visitors. In other words, he's just throwing out some red meat in a juvenile attempt to smear those he opposes.

As for Silver Fox's solution, there are several reasons why it wouldn't work. The easier solution is to completely discredit those hacks who support illegal immigration. When we're able to have an impact on their careers, those who profit from illegal activity will have trouble finding others who want to put their careers on the line promoting illegal activity.

Wow I'm glad Newt is still working out there. I agree these illegal aliens are in 100% blatant violation of our laws. The Silver Fox left something out though: we should arrest, jail and fine heavily those that hire illegal aliens and the corrupt politicians who've sold their souls to mexico and refuse to follow the will of hte people.

"...designed to rise above traditional gridlocked partisanship"...this is rich coming from the guy who shut down the government during the Clinton years.

And which # wife is Mr. "Family Vaues" Gingrich on? I keep losing track.

A real final solution bunch of ditto heads.

Op109,
Religious conservatives have constitutionally protected rights, too. Freedom of speech and the right to petition the government about their grievances are two that come to mind immediately. However, religious conservatives have taken a shine to demanding that the establishment clause of the constitution be ignored or run rough shod over. School prayer is a fine example of this.
I think that religious conservatives should share the public square with
everyone else, as long as the requisite principles and rules are adhered to.
They, as well as everyone else, provide an important counterweight to the power of the central government.

It's too bad, " johnf " that they don't provide a counterweight to the power of Big Business. Instead, they are part of Big Business and they have abused their tax-free status with their vehement political tirades and pseudo-conspiracies, concerning their stated political enemies !! Religion is not a political party, in spite of what many Pastors and Ministers and Reverends might think !!

Don F,
You hit the nail on the head; The Religion Commodity Industry in America has a great business plan. It can't be beat. They are tax free.
The RR even accuse we lefty humanists of engaging in the practice of the religion of 'Liberalism'.
Gee, I guess that means my home, cars, income, etc are tax exempt?
Hey RR Xtians! I hope you are working to get my tax free status approved by the Feds. I know I am!

Don,
Agreed. The executive, legislative and increasingly the judicial branches have
ceded their autonomy to too many interest groups, religious conservatives being one of many.
Silence them, never.
Returning all of them to their rightful place in the nations public square would be the correct path.
No easy task with so many elected officials acting as stooge adjutants for these groups.
My hope is the judiciary will slap down a lot of this, but that appears to be in jeopardy, too.
Religious conservatives have their eyes focused like laser beams on judicial appointments.

SPQR_US,
Isn't it ironic that Newt's project, ASWF, provides a handy Spanish translation of it's platform ?

Unfortunately, " johnf " you are trying to confuse the issue. Religious conservatives are all already in the public square, participating in the life of this nation. I have no problem that churches or any other House of Worship doesn't allow the sale of condoms or pornography within their confines, just as I don't have any problem when our government refuses to sanction any religious displays in public schools, government buildings, etc. That is what Houses of Worship are for, practicing your particular type of religion. Thank our Founding Fathers for that idea, the separation of Church and State. It has allowed our nation to stay democratic and as long as that tradition and philosophy is maintained, America will remain strong democratic.

Don F,
I'm not attempting to sidestep anything, and I don't see any material difference in our opinions, either.
I think the RR and many other interest groups hold entirely too much sway over our government, but this is not to say that I believe these groups should be entirely silenced, either. Do you?

I agree with the Silver Fox re: illegals, the gov. broke the law as well as the illegals. Take note, everything the gov is doing is to gain more power, It seems their goal is fo control business and industry and every aspect of our lives under the guise of helping us.

the swamp is a perfect name for y'all. does the almighty socialist george soreass fund this show, too?

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented
immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer
an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.
So!! What part of illegal are you unable to understand!

I thank Thomas Jefferson and God for being allowed the right to write whatever I believe in writing and praying to the God I believe in. As for illegal immigrants...what part of ILLEGAL don't YOU understand?

In God We Trust....

I am a Christian but I do not believe in radical comments or in many of the comments made by the previous writers. I also believe we as Americans need to know the facts about what our country stands for and where it came from. Our constitution does not state a seperation of church and state, it states that our government cannot establish a religion or prohibit the free exercise thereof. WIth some of the current actions by our courts that is exactly what is happening.
