The Swamp

by James Oliphant

A Democratic Party statesman has emerged to implore Hillary Clinton to abandon her quest for the presidency.

Al Gore? No.

John Edwards? No.

Jimmy Carter? No.

Ted Kennedy? No.

Nancy Pelosi? No.

Martin Sheen? No. Okay, enough.

It's George McGovern.

McGovern told CNN and the Associated Press today that he was throwing his support behind Barack Obama after formally endorsing Clinton last fall. He urged Clinton to get out.

From CNN:

McGovern is not a Democratic superdelegate, though he is the first major Clinton supporter to publicly suggest the New York senator should abandon her presidential bid following Tuesday night's results.

According to the Associated Press, McGovern now feels it is impossible for Clinton to win the nomination following her tight win in Indiana and bruising defeat in North Carolina.

Responding to the news, Clinton spokesman Mo Elleithee said "Senator Clinton appreciates Senator McGovern's friendship, but believes the voters in the upcoming states should have their voices heard in this process."

There is some political significance to the move. McGovern was a popular senator from South Dakota. That state has its primary June 3.

Is there a living Democrat more irrelevant than George McGovern? I don't see this swaying anybody.
And to the drones who want HC to drop out so that the coronation can commence -- how do you square that with the concept of democracy? How is fewer choices (small tho the choices be) a good thing? How is fewer people voting a good thing?
And if it's true that this whole process ends up weakening the Democratic candidate in November, then it can only be because your candidate was been pretty hollow to begin with.

Old White Men's Club Pusche for Obama?
PLEASE!
SHE AND OBAMA MUST BE LEFT ALONE TO NEGOTIATE THIS.
Congratulations to both candidates.
Energy reglation is about to EXPIRE next year.
Here's hoping BOTH candidates can go back to congress and pass some energy regulations.
It's important ot let Shrub veto this.
Newt Gingrich is coming out saying to Repubs part of wha Hillary said (and make no mistake, the mainstream, and even the Nation ignored her very good LONG TERM energy policy--and it was very good, even if the gas pump end of it seemed silly--).
It's important to put some of the 'race fever' aside for just a bit. ,
But, the way to the White House is WITH Hillary. Not without her.
To WIN North Carolina in the Fall (which is the goal), Hillary and Bill are needed. To WIN a lot of the states Hillary has already won IN THE DEMOCRATIC RACE, Hillary and Bill are needed.
Can we stop seeing words regarding Hillary like "hildabeast", or "Biliary", or phrases like "her carcass to the glue factory, or pandering, or winning by defaultk, cheating, or 'puts he away tonight'?
As Elizabeth Heinz Kerry said, "We're all in this together."

Old George is right! However, an Obama/Clinton ticket would easily overwhelm the GOP. The new man and new voice is Obama.

I agree Denis, An Obama & Clinton ticket will surely pounce the GOP!!

The name John McBush comes to mind. The uniter of the republican party. If he weren't hollow, maybe you wouldn't need to play the support Hillary nonsense game. Most good republican leaders can't run from the jail.

Ding Ding, Billary Clinton Is Gone!

If McGovern is not a superdelegate, then who are superdelegates?

Makes you think they're something like "The Star Chamber."

bill r,
You forgot to add that 27% of North Carolina Republicans voted AGAINST John McCain, and in Indiana 23% voted AGAINST John McCain. He's already sealed the nomination and almost 3 in 10 Republicans can't stomach his name at the top of the ballot. That is NOT GOOD.

McCain is a Democrat? When did that happen?

I predict that Hillary Clinton will win the nomination and the presidency. You probably wont print this.

Sometime during your primaries. Don't you remember? The Limper, the "great" American Sean Vannity, and many more claimed he was more democrat than Hillary.
