The friendly skies may not be so friendly toward cell phone users.
A bill that was introduced yesterday called the Halting Airplane Noise to Give Us Peace Act of 2008-or the HANG UP Act- would ban passengers from using cell phones in flight.
“There’s a place for cell phones, and there’s a place not for cell phones,” said Rep. John Duncan (R-Tenn.), during a press conference.
This measure comes after a European Union announcement that it would allow people to talk on their cell phones during commercial flights. Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.), who sponsors the bill, said that a number of foreign airlines have been approved to experiment with the use of cell phones in-flight.
