The Swamp

by Mike Dorning

PHILADELPHIA — Barack Obama mocked rival Hillary Clinton this morning for comparing herself to the movie character Rocky Balboa as he offered Pennsylvania labor leaders a speech laden with red-meat economic populism.

Rocky

Clinton has made the theme song from the 1976 movie "Rocky," which was set in Philadelphia, a part of the soundtrack of her Pennsylvania primary campaign. When she appeared before the same Pennsylvania AFL-CIO state convention a day earlier, she invoked the fictional working-class boxing hero to explain her determination to continue her campaign, declaring that, like Rocky, “I never quit.”

“There’s been some talk about Rocky Balboa over the last couple days. And you know we all love Rocky,” Obama told the labor leaders.

“But we got to remember Rocky was a movie,” Obama continued. “And so is the idea that someone can fight for working people and at the same time, embrace the broken system Washington, where corporate lobbyists use their clout to shape laws to their liking.”

Obama pounded away at corporate excesses and Republican economic policies.

“We’re ready to play offense for organized labor,” Obama said. “It’s time we had a President who didn’t choke saying the word “union.” A President who knows it’s the Department of Labor and not the Department of Management.

“Over the last seven years,” he said, “we’ve had an administration that serves the interests of the wealthy and the well-connected, no matter what the cost to working families, and to our economy.”

As he has elsewhere during his bus tour through Pennsylvania, Obama attacked $19 million in bonuses given to the two top executives of Countrywide Financial, a subprime mortgage lender that issues many loans now in foreclosure. The executives negotiated a sale of the company with losses to investors but the new owner, Banc of America Corp., recently revealed bonuses to the same executives.

“The system is broken – and over the weekend, we got a reminder of just how badly it’s broken,” Obama said, describing the bonuses. “That is an outrage. That’s not the America we believe in. It’s time to take on the special interests and level the playing field so that our economy works for working Americans.”

Obama pitched an economic agenda that includes middle-class tax cuts, a plan for universal access to health care, and stricter labor, environmental and safety provisions in trade agreements.

And he linked presumptive Republican nominee to the economic policies of the Bush Administration.

“John McCain said a few weeks ago that ‘the issue of economics is not something I’ve understood as well as I should’ – and that’s clear since all he’s offering is more of the same Bush policies that have put the American Dream out of reach for so many Americans,” Obama said.

Republican National Committee spokesman Alex Conant blasted Obama’s address as ““yet another example (of) an old-style, shifty political maneuver colliding with the empty rhetoric of his stump speech.”

Now this is a man I want as my President.

Come on, PA! Let's wrap this thing up!

I really hate the expression "The System is Broken" what is he referring to with that statement? Does it refer to the excessive bonuses for big company execs? Does it refer to our administration? Does it refer to the outsourcing of jobs. Exactly what is he talking about. As usual vague words without any meaning. Let's be specific obama, stop making people try to figure what the h you're talking about. Go get him Repubs.

I thought Rocky lost that fight like Hilary will loose the nomination. nice try Hilary!

As for John McCain, we do not want a clone Bush back in the white house.

We need to turn the page and Barack Obama is the embodiment of 21st century, a fine and honest man, who will fight for the ordinary people in the white house and bring our government back to the people.

Obama '08

It is sad to see Obama run his campaign the same as all other previous presidential campaigns.
He is using the tired old strategy of mocking your opponents, distorting comments that they have made in the past and constantly repeating their misstatements.
At this point John McCain is exhibiting much more of a "campaign of change".

At this point, Obama seems to be adept at preaching change but not being change. I am increasing getting convinced that he is more of a marketing creation that a person of substance.

And earmarks for the hospital where your wife works is not shaping laws to the liking of influence peddlers?? Can you say phony?

Isn't Obama part of the system that he's criticizing as broken? What's he really done in the past 3-10 years he's been part of the elected government. And before the Obamanites jump all over with their bogus list of accomplishments, you should check out Newsweek's article which compared the 2 democratic candidates' Senate record. Obama's done much less than Clinton. So if the system's broken, isn't he part of the problem?

Well said.

Yes, "Rocky" was a movie. It was a cool movie, 31 years ago...

GOBAMA!

ROCKY was a fictional character and so was RAMBO, another Stallone character she was deliberately impersonating in Bosnia. Pennsylvania - Clubbah Lang this Premeditated LIAR!!!

November Prediction:
Obama 54%
McCain 45%
Nader 1%

It's the economy & it is Iraq stupid!

RFB, can you read? Clearly, Obama is speaking of our political system. Speaking on Clinton's relating herself to Rocky, he says "“And so is the idea that someone can fight for working people and at the same time, embrace the broken system Washington, where corporate lobbyists use their clout to shape laws to their liking.” Obama's next pointed to Pres. Bush's policy regarding this matter, "Over the last seven years,” he said, “we’ve had an administration that serves the interests of the wealthy and the well-connected, no matter what the cost to working families, and to our economy.” So if you don't get his views, it is not because he is being vague. It is either because you do not have the capacity to understand plain english or you simply choose not accept his views because to accept his views you'd have to acknowledge his legitimacy to become President. It is obvious to all that you do not wish to see him as President.

Barack acts like a jerk sometimes towards other people, especially women! He shows no respect for women.

Rocky was a movie and Wright was just a preacher!!

OBAMA you will Win PA and we will Endorse you...
Go Obama!!!!!!!!!

I am proud of what you are saying, Barack. As an American, I am proud to be able to go and vote for what you are saying.

I am proud because what you are saying is right. To say that "the system is broken" is so right to me that it is painful for me to contemplate all the things now happening to America that validate that statement, and makes your election a moral imperative for this country.

Keep it up, Barack. I don't think you will have much of a problem in Penn.

GO OBAMA IN 08!!!!!!!

He is talking about the lobbyists having too much control in Washington. It would be nice to have the will of the people dictate laws for a change. It would also be nice if he can clean that up, although unlikely, at least he's willing to try and not just ignore it and let everything stay status quo like every other candidate. And, McCain doesn't have a chance!

I am wondering how Obama is going to fix a "broken Washington" when he is a part of the system. I hope Hillary leaves the DNC and runs against Barack in the general election, as an Independent. Obama cannot win the general election without the votes of Hillary supporters. Who cares about party affiliation? I care about health care and the economy.

Hillary Clinton’s & her staffers are really stupid. Why do they continue to allow her to say stupid things…I’m beginning to believe that someone on her staff is trying to sabotage her.

Rocky is a fictional character that LOST the fight in the end. Best comparison would be that Rocky is a fiction and so is her exaggerated resume of experience in Bosnia, Macedonia, Healthcare, etc..

FYI: Sylvester Stallone is a republican and supports John McCain…so I when Hillary says “she and Rocky have a lot in common!” that figures…because the both support John McCain!

Cowardly Lion Hillary from the Wizard of Oz....."Cmon put em up....put em up."

Hillary would call up the military to fight her battles and have a coup.
You'd find Obama locked in a garbage bin in Manhatten.

She'd tell everyone that Obama left the country, and went back to Kenya voluntarily.

Isn't that what Hillary is talking about anyways? It doesn't matter if Obama wins the popular vote and electoral vote.

Hillary plans on having a coup....and telling everyone the black man can't win.

Yeah, I agree with Dee... Barack is an obvious woman-hater! I mean if he really respected women, he would just step aside and give Clinton the nomination, voters be damned... ladies first, right?

[Completely baseless comments deserve mockery.]

This country cannot afford Hillary and her huge ego that wants to be president at any cost. This country needs a president who knew the Iraq war was wrong from the start, knows that civil rights have been weakened and has a plan to put them back, and knows that big business has made this planet toxic and at least has an idea that perhaps it should be fixed. Obama is the only candidate who can circle the wagons and get us back on the same page to be a country of right and moral values and not big business earnings per share. All this other stuff about race, color, religion - means nothing - Obama has a plan and has the desire to do the right thing. that is enough for me

To RFB: The System that's broken is democracy: corporate employees (lobbyists) write the laws that regulate the corporations. When voters object to government policy, the V.P. asks "So?"

To bob: An earmark for a hospital is better than most other earmarks. Certainly better than a no-bid no-perform contract for campaign contributors. Better than a bridge to nowhere.

To dymoy : You need to be in they system in order to change it. Only legislators can legislate.

I don't know if Obama can be trusted, but at least he's saying the right things. The others are just playing PR games to 'look' good.

Dee...
You had better back that statement up. The accusation you are making is a serious one; where is the data?

If you argue that his attacks against Clinton are based on her gender, then you have absolutely no credibility.

Well said JDH - agree completely with your point.

I thought that obama was all flash and no substance. Until I started doing some research.

here is what I found. You decide:

All Obama's policy positions are in great detail here: http://www.barackobama.com/issues/

but the Readers Digest version is here

http://www.rd.com/national-interest/election-2008/barack-obama-on-the-issues/article46195.html

and a slightly longer version here http://www.ontheissues.org/Barack_Obama.htm

His experience - is he experienced enough?

First, here is an interesting perspective on experience - totally unrelated to the elections, here is a interesting article from INSEAD ( the famous international management school) called "The Experience Trap" http://knowledge.insead.edu/TheExperienceTrap080201.cfm?vid=17

Having said that, I agree - you need experience to be a good president.

Here is what I found about Obama's experience:

A washington post article written by Charles Peters, president of Understanding Government

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/01/03/AR2008010303303.html

But I wanted to see for myself , so I looked at both Clinton and Obama's senate record on the government website

http://thomas.loc.gov/

I was surprised to see that clinton's record is not that impressive and obama's is very good, and even excellent, if you also examine his illinois senate record which is summarized in the article above and here
http://www.nytimes.com/imagepages/2007/07/29/us/politics/20070730_OBAMA_GRAPHIC.html

After Clinton's recent Bosnia sniper "misspeak" and the her now debunked irish peace treaty claims, http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2008/03/08/wuspols108.xml

I have come to see that Clinton's record and experience is being overinflated

After reading obama's books, hearing him speak and going through his track record, I think that he thinks through things very deeply, has a fantastic global perspective, is symbolically very positive, and in terms of policy would pursue all the core democratic policies , just like hillary, and certainly far more than McCain

Here is a link to the story about feminists who preferred Obama over Clinton
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jon-wiener/feminist-leaders-oppose-h_b_84715.html

As for the issue of gender, this article makes some great points,

here is a Newsweek article http://www.newsweek.com/id/115397

also so many prominent women leaders have endorsed Obama including Janet Napolitano, Claire Macskill, Katherine Sibelius,

Finally, here's a very nicely written piece by Harold Vasmus, head of Sloan Kettering and Nobel prize winner who ran NIH under Bill Clinton,. Varmus endorsed Obama and this is what he says

http://blog.wired.com/wiredscience/2008/02/harold-varmus-e.html
An excerpt from his endorsementk

Obama has developed into a jerk and one arrogant sob that worse days is ahead of him. If he thinks Clinton plays nasty, wait until the Republicans start hitting him and publicaly revealing what little he has really achieved personaly in his government services.

I'll still vote for him because he is still better than another four years of Republicans. But his arrogance and cute remarks will get no where with the down and dirty Republican machine.

Hillary should call herself Rambo (rather than Rocky)-- didn't you see those YouTube clips of sniper fire in Kosovo?

What system is broken? Countrywide Financial is just an example: two executives lines their pockets with 19million dollars after running their business to the ground and letting their stock holders take the loss. As long as this remains a perfectly legal way to run a business, what will happen to investor confidence?

I'm no expert but Obama's talk of more government oversight would mean fewer execs being able to do what Countrywide's execs did, and that means safer investment in the US, which directly results in more jobs and stable economy.

This benefits pretty much all Americans excluding the top 0.1% richest.

At this point anyone contributing to Hillary is just giving $$ to pay off her debt. She wants to pay herself back and leave this campaign without debt to carry forward.

I believe that this is the MAJOR reason she is pushing so hard to sound viable. She NEEDS to stay in long enough to raise money to make herself whole. Does anyone who has observed this woman (couple) believe for one moment that she would leave before getting enough $$ to cover herself?

So, go ahead all of you - soon to be duped - supporters. Close your eyes - hold your breath - set aside reality - and GIVE, GIVE, GIVE. I'm sure you all want to keep the Clinton's in their newly found lifestyle/wealth that their former presidency has helped them obtain. Those tax returns are being held up not only because of possible damage with the electorate - but also as to not crimp the "campaign" fundraising efforts!

RFB - i think Obama needs to dumb things down a little for folks like you to understand. Based on what I heard, he will be doing that in the near future, so please be patient, he will speak at your level soon enough.

I'm a woman and a FORMER Clinton supporter. i don't believe that Obama is showing a disrespect for Clinton, this is an election and unfortunately both sides have taken the gloves off.

People are just stupid to beleive a person who just good in talking and have a paper-thin experience.

C'mon people use your head and don't beleive a person who would promise you anything with GOOD SPEECH!

Barack Hussein Obama keeps telling us what he doesn't like, and what he is against. To be a President of the United States you have to for something. Obama what are you for? You say you are for the Unions. How are you for the Unions? What do you plan to do for the Unions? Obama you say you are against the Washington crowd. Does that mean you are against the Democrat controlled House and Senate? Who are you against in Washington, and what do you plan to do? You say Hillary is not like Rocky fine. Keep tearing down your opponents that is a great sign of stupidity if it's done for no reason other then to put down your opponent.

The "System is broken" indeed. Democracy can only work when the politicians listen to its citizens. The way things are going on right now, politicians in Washington listens only to rich corporate-backed lobbysts, which will eventaully cause the total collapse of the democratic system in the U.S. - transforming the country into an aristocratic nation maybe...

Obama is the right one!

MAN it's a long time til Denver. UGH!

I always thought Clinton reminded me more of Rambo than Rocky. I mean, she's never boxed... but she's dodged bullets with the best of em in Bosnia!

Talk about a fairytale!

She (Hillary) should be relating Bill to Rocky (Stallone) ... both were Draft-Dodgers!

To Dee that says Senator Obama acts like a jerk sometimes and has no respect for women-when is the last time you have had a conversation with Senator Obama. He has never dissrespected me or any women I know. He has been nothing but chivalrous to Senator Clinton.

Just as JDH stated, it is apparent that you do not
wish to see him as President.

"Barack acts like a jerk sometimes towards other people, especially women! He shows no respect for women." -- posted by Dee

What in God's name does that even mean, Dee? At the risk of arguing a point I can make no sense of , the man has one wife who doesn't seem to take much guff from anyone, and two daughters. Seems to me he's in no position to show anything *other* than respect for women. Not to mention the degree to which Obama has praised his own mother for the values she helped him realize.

How about adding a few specifics to your critique next time? Otherwise, you simply come across as trying to shoot someone down, in this case with nothing akin to ammunition.

Dee, why is it that whenever Obama calls Clinton out on her BS, apologists like you whine about gender. This argument is as tired and ineffective as the playing of the race card by overly sensitive Obama supporters. What specifically has Obama said that is disrespectful or sexist? If HRC is so dam tough, she should be able to handle some pointed criticism. Bubba Clinton made an excellent point about politicians needing to be able to take it. Don't you think this should apply to his "tough" spouse. Stop whining and come with the facts.

Didn't Sly already endorse McCain? I think McCain already mentioned running up the stairs like Rocky when he got the endorsement.

Obama attacking Mccain on economy. I wonder what makes him economic genius. Obama weak on defense, weak on economy, and if you think he would fight for a "poor working class" (what ever that means), you being delusional. I rather get Bush for a 3rd term, than Obama's first. Dem pick a strong candidate next time, but I think you don't have one, they all have huge baggage, one of the reason you going with Obama, because he doesn't have alot of years in Washington, so you think he can be a safe candidate. But most of American's don't want somebody who will start practicing on the job. We already had one without any experience (remember Carter?), what a disaster that was.

First of all Obama is right, Rocky was just a movie....and as i remeber Rocky had one to many hits top the head...so i guess Hillary is the same way one too many hits....Obama is more the "Presidental" type of person...he leads in a good he knows how to speak to the people..he is also a well dressed man might i add...but really if and when he wins just think "IS AMERICA READY" and everyone out there knows what i mean are we really ready and what will happen once we do have COLOR in the WHITE HOUSE!!

OK a few things I'm tired of:

1) Anytime Someone says something against Sen. Clinton, it's because they're sexist. THAT insinuation in of itself is sexist. Obama doesn't hate women, Republicans don't hate women and I don't hate woemn. I'm am fully ready for a woman to be President....just not THAT women.

2) Saying Sen. McCain will be just like Bush. Look at the history folks. What in his record supports this claim? Nothing. He has one of the most prolific bi-partisan records of anyone in either house of congress. Let's keep our eyes on the ball here people and not just believe what our "favorite" canidate and/or the press tell us blindly.

3) People pulling the experience card. George Washington had NO executive or legeslative government experience.

4) People posting articles that demonstrate how their canidate is better then everyone else's. For every atrical you post there is another artical that directly contradicts it that also includes facts and records. It's all in the language.

5) The expectation that ANY of the canidates will bring all the troops home from Iraq. It's not going to happen. Even Sen. Obama has back-pedaled on this. At least Sen. McCain is being honest about it.

6) Sen. Obama supporters saying the Sen. Clinton should drop out. Why? She is a viable canidate who has millions of supporters. She isn't really THAT far behind in the delegate count and is projected to do well in the remainng primaries. I know that party unity has come into question but, quite frankly, if the Democratic Party as a whole can not come together when the close race among their own party is over, then maybe the Democratic Party doesn't deserve to win in November.

7) People calling the USA a democuracy. You grew up saying the Pledge of Allegience in school every morning so you should know that we are a REPUBLIC who ellects our leaders. So while we are a democratic-republic, WE ARE A STILL A REPUBLIC. Please try learning a thing or two about your governmental system. I wonder if 75% of the people who comment could pass the Citizenship Test that imigrants have to take.

All that being said...I am a natural born, undecided independant so please don't automatically take what I've said and try to lable me.

Obama really stoops low.Hillary knows Rocky is a movie, your mocking her shows you are another holier than thou man. What about your sermonizing as if you are David vs. Goliath? I would like you to talk about issues and not debase Hillary's comment.
She mentioned Rocky, and you are trying to look like the bowling pal. By the way, maybe you scored poorly because you looked so uptight bowling with shirt and tie.Is that how you play basketball?

Rocky ended up brain damaged, never really learned how to box and just took punishment. Oh...Rocky did lose that fight to an AFRICAN AMERICAN!

You all out there talk about how great hillary is and how vague Obama is. It just amazes me that the clintonh brain washing actually took effect on so many americans. Can we trust a woman who lies about her fake marrige to bill to save face. And since when is being a lesbien something you have to save face from. It disgusts me that she cannot come forward about her sexuality due to the preception it would give the american public. If she cant be honest with herself how can she honest to the people of this great country. Oh and can you say tax disclosure.

If I wanted a sermon I would go to church. And If I was dependent on politicians I would be broke.

No president can control the economy or economic cycle. The best they can do is not to mess things up.

Obama preachers nonsense once he is in office he will start operating like a true politician and bend over for corporate America. If you look closely he has already done so.

How is going to work with other side
If you really talk about change you need to change things from the outside

Don't forget once elected in office your inside

Best bet is to take care of yourself and your family

And hope Washington does not mess up

to rfb: a system is broken, when it eats itself up like it does at the moment. I think this is not too hard to understand. Obama is the only candidate who is able to take a step back and to see the system from the outside. That is what Michelle meant, when she said that Obama wouldn't campaign another time, should he fail, because their time as normal people would then be to far back.

Who better to talk about fiction than the man who fictionalized his own autobiography by changing the names of the people and the dates, so none of his fantastic stories could later be verified?

Obama has done nothing but lie, first to the people of Illinois ( I admit I was fooled into voting for him the first time ) and now to the country, so I guess he knows what he's talking about when it comes to fiction.

What in the world does Obama have against Rocky? For all the Obamamaniacs out there, this is how it will play out in November if he is the nominee.

Obama will stand next to McCain in the debate and the American voters will see a Navy pilot who served his country proudly, a son and grandson of a Navy Admirals, who was shot down in Vietnam, and forced into a prison camp for years. Then they will pan over to Obama and see a son of a hippy, who hung out during his youth on the beaches of Hawaii, smoking weed, while his mother was off in Indonesia, the largest muslim population in southeast asia, doing who knows what. Then instead of proudly serving his country, he went to a posh Liberal Arts private college at oxydental where he perfected his progressive agenda while smoking more weed, and doing blow.

I think the Democrats have really found a winner. Not. The american people will get to chose: Hippy 60 flower power, or Proudly Serving American Veteran.

I think the choice will be an easy one. That's not the type of change americans will be interested in.

OB has no sense of humor!

BTW, read Newsweek's article about the erroneous e-mail going around about the lack of Hill's accomplishments! OB is not what we want!

Come on everyone, Obama and Clinton have done well in keeping the campaign positive the last couple of weeks. Let's maintain that, as well as maintain a positive attitude towards both candidates while blogging. McCain and his pro-bush policies are the issues that should be criticized. Let's keep that in mind.

As Jay Leno said in his opening monologue last night, "wasn't Rocky the movie where he gets the crap beat out of him and ultimately loses to the black guy?"

Hillary as Rocky? Wasn't she a lawer? Kinda the opposite of a poor boxer.

The irony of this entire Rocky theme is that Senator Clinton forgets that she was the champion, the prohibitive favorite to win the Democratic nomination. If anyone is "Rocky" in this fight it's Senator Obama. No one gave him a chance. He was the longshot. He's the one that came from way behind to beat the first family of the Democratic Party.

ROCKY LOST! doesn't Hillary get that? So what if he went the distance - he lost the fight, and hopefully, that is exactly what will happen here.

If you read what Obama is actually saying and you listen to his speeches you, with the use of your intellect, will see that Obama is showing us a way to a better future. He can't do this alone and he can't do it with just words. But we need the words to express a vision of our future. A leader must inspire us to be our better selves, to work towards a better future.

We, that is those of us struggling in main street America know that we have lost ground over the last 20 years. Our pay compared with that of our Fathers is lower. Our wives are working while our kids are in daycare. We need a new vision for what America is and can be and Obama has the ideas and vision that inspires me.

Listen carefully America, our future is at stake.

Dear Dee,

What is this?

He's a jerk "sometimes" toward the vague "other people" but especially "women"... so he shows no respect for women?

Verbal acrobatics aside, how is this statement even remotely accurate.

I'm beyond frustrated with people who claim that Senator Obama, and his supporters are sexist, just because they are not supporting Senator Clinton.

Would it be fair if I said that Senator Clinton and her supporters are all racist? No it would not, and I don't believe that is the case.

Just because Sen. Clinton is "a woman" does not mean she is "the woman for the job" I have no compunctions about voting for a woman, (as a matter of fact I live in New Hampshire and currently support former Governor Jean Shaheen in her senatorial campaign) but I believe that Sen. Obama is the better candidate, as do a majority of those who have voted to date, and a majority in all recent polls of registered democrats nationally (49-45).

Supporting a candidate based solely on gender, or race, is by default sexism or racism. It doesn't make it acceptable just because the candidate isn't a white male.

So, please, keep your sexism, and slanderous accusations to yourself, they have no place in intelligent discourse.

Newspapers need to stop using slanting words like "mocking" when Senator Obama's words do not sound mocking at all, rather simple logic. It is easy to see who each newspaper supports based on how they slant the language in a piece. It seems like The Swamp has a couple of nice articles about Obama today, and in the end, they're edited or footnoted with a paragraph that basically boils down to, "...and the Republican party was quick to look for ways to cut down Obama... again."

One should point out that at least Obama was nice enough to not MOCK Hillary by reminding people that in the end, although you cheer for Rocky, he still lost.

Biden, Dodd, Edwards, Gravel, Kucinich, Richardson and Vilsack didn't try to be 'Rocky.' The 'super-delegates' need to play grown-up. Super-delegates, get some gumption and 'vote!' I had to cast my vote back in February!

It's only politics lighten up

i think i may how an ideah how our votes may get counted we could all go to the polling places and stick our fingers in a bottle of ink hold our fingers up for all the world to see maby then all our votes would get counted

"...where corporate lobbyists use their clout to shape laws to their liking"
How much money have the campaigns taken from corporations. More politcal dribble from our world leaders. We know they see us as idiots and we'll prove them right by putting one of them in office.

Quick note to Ken:

If you are just going to be insulting, please try to be clever, and/or, interesting. Here's an example:

If you learn how to spell, and then write in correct grammatical form, people might be able to read through your entire post. They will probably still find it to be ridiculous, but at least they will be able to finish reading it.

And to Clarence:

More clever use of the middle name; that never gets old. Here's a name for you:

Clarence "Racist" Poster

That's right. Racist.

Is it not time for younger ideas in the White House? Can any of us beheld to what our boss, brother, sister, mother or father speaks. Should we not look deeper, WE have all heard or said things we should not have said. We have been around friends and still are friends with people who’s ideas {some} may not be main stream! Do we turn our back on them, no. We still love them. They do give us food for thought. We do not have to act on what they say, if they are standing in the outfield. Its time for a young man to step up, and fix this country. The old ones are afraid to. Go Barack, and thanks!.

ee said "Barack acts like a jerk sometimes towards other people, especially women! He shows no respect for women."

That's absurd. This is a man surrounded by women in his home, his staff, his childhood.

I'm glad Clinton refuses to drop out of the race. Hillary Clinton has worked very hard to discredit Senator Obama and to turn her supporters against the Democratic Party. The result is that many of Clinton's supporters are convinced that Barack Obama is the devil and that John McCain would make a much better president. This is why I want her to stay in the race: she needs to hang on until she is fully, 100% discredited. Until it is blatantly obvious that she is acting purely out of personal ambition. Until she becomes such a longshot that even her most tenacious supporters are embarrassed for her. I want her to stay in the race so that she can make increasingly desperate moves: tales of her Bosnian heroism were the start, but there are preliminary signs that she's starting to play the gender card by having her surrogates launch accusations of sexism. She needs to become desperate to the point of foolishness, then she needs to make ridiculous excuses for why she didn't win, and then she needs to concede gracelessly.

In short, she needs to stay in the game until she has completely discredited herself, so that after she is gone her former supporters will question the things she told them: that Barack is worthless, that McCain would be a good president. The Democratic Party can still come together -- it can come together over the smoldering remains of Hillary Clinton's political reputation.

So you go, Hillary. Run like you've never run before. Launch your "kitchen sink" attacks. Convince your donors to threaten Pelosi. Tell your supporters to vote Republican. Regale us with war stories from Bosnia. And whine about how the mean old boys won't let you be president. Don't hold back. Simple failure is not good enough -- you need to go out in a blaze of inglorious silliness, and you seem to be making every effort to do so. More power to you.

Obama is conceited? Obama mocks Hillary too much? Obama stoops low??? Let's not forget Hillary's Shakespeare in the park rendition of Obama's unity message "celestial choirs...". That was about as insulting and sarcastic as any remarks thus far. She also has committed the cardinal sin of propping up senile John McCain over her fellow democrat, prompting many to ask if she's interested in joining forgetful John on the GOP ticket. If you are gonna celebrate her warrior mentality, then don't whine every time Obama responds to yet another silly comment. Obama showed tons of restraint by not hammering Clinton on her Bosnia lie. If the roles were reversed HRC and her slimy spin artist, Howard Wolfson would still be pushing that story, yelling "Liar, liar, pants on fire" from the mountain tops. Get a clue, Clintonistas. You all are about as well informed as HRC's has been strategists. The Clinton machine should take a one way ticket from PA to the Smithsonian. They're political fossils!!

Obama must either be really unintelligent, or a big jerk always attacking his opponents with low blow insults, that remind me of elementary school. It's obvious Rocky is a movie, and the way Obama is acting about this and similar attacks as this, just make me want to vote more for Hilary, and if Hilary doesn't make it to the Democratic nomination, I'm voting McCain. I am a registered Democrat, but this non-sense little boy insults are ridiculous that I would rather vote for McCain than Obama!

Obama should stay in Chicago where people understand his vague inuendos and slanderous comments..He should be so strong as Hillary Clinton...We need experience, not rhetoric!!!!!

To J.D.
Sir, may I recommend that you enroll in Remedial English with a concentration on spelling. I am not being sarcastic—just honest. It would greatly improve your communication skills. Go for it!

Why does Obama has to have an answer to eveything that Hillary says.
Can he make up any topic on his own aside from trashing Hillary.
Now, I remember, that all he knows is to talk.

Oh shut up with the sexist stuff. Health care cost have increased 87% since Bush took office. Hillary health plan is a mandate that every one buy health insurance. There's a difference between health insurance and health care. What incentive is there for insurance companies to lower cost if everyone is made to buy it. The only power consumers have is choice. Obama's health plan calls for reform first to make it more affordable thereby more accessible for people to buy it. Hillary puts the cart before the horse thinking that if everyone is made to buy it that will lower cost. Your a sucker if you believe that. I don't care if our next president is poka dotted as long as his policies restore the economical balance for the American people and end Bush's corporate takeover of our government. Vote your pocket book. Vote Obama.

My son-in-law is in Iraq.

Again. 5th time. Special missions.

A trillion dollars, 4,000 dead, and 100,000+ wounded there, and the only sure consequence so far is that Iran has more influence there than we do.

The chairman of the Fed says we're in a recession. The special trouble with this recession is that there is no federal money left to bail us out of it. Our extra tax dollars for the next decade went to ... Iraq.

Osama Bin Laden is still mocking us.

I'm a Barack Obama supporter. But having worked in Washington, I could be quite satisfied with Hilary Clinton as President.

They have to squabble for votes because they have to squabble for votes. I just hope that the passionate fools among you who demonize Hilary or Barack because you're so passionate for one of them come to realize that what's important is to flush the Republicans out of Washington. Democrats will bring their own set of problems and excesses (we did when I worked there), but they won't be nearly as awful as the damage Bush-Cheney have done while more thoughtful Republicans in Congress failed to rein them in.

Please keep your eyes on the target . Either Barack or Hilary will serve us vastly better than what we have now. Vote Democratic in the general election. Pennsylvania and which one is nominated are vastly less important. It's the policies, not the individual, that matter.

I do not hold any politician in high regard, national or locally. I vote based on the current situation. Is it so bad that we need a change. Or is it so good that we need to stay consistent.

Over the past 7 years, the National Republican party has proven that loyalty is more important than good policy, ideology more important than pragmatism, and the rich are more important than the working class.

Clinton or Obama in 08.

poor obama. he knows that hillary will knock him out.

If you are a true Democrat, then you need to respect BOTH candidates! Stop whining about Obama doing this, and Clinton doing that! I'm for Obama, BUT BUT and BUT, if he loses to Clinton, then I'm voting for her in November over McCain!!!!!

The Repulicans had their chance when they controlled the White House and Congress!! Look where we are at now??? No more Republicans. Let go for Democrats and give them a shot at this thing!

Stop whining about the Democrats. Support Obama/Clinton. Let's beat McCain and the Republican machine... I'm tired of War, I'm tired of Corporate Tax Brakes, of Huge Oil Company Subsidies, Rich Tax Brakes, Inner-City Budget Cuts, Bush's refusal to sign a healthcare system for children. They are completely detached from us. We need a change. I'm going for Obama, BUT BUT and BUT, if Clinton beats him, then I'm voting for Clinton in November. STOPPED BITCHING and start supporting the party!!!!

It's funny you read these entries and everyone just talks about each candidate based on the characterization and persona created by the media. When convenient you use it against other candidates, yet call out the media when they attack the one you like. When are we going to start thinking for ourselves? How many people took the time to listen to Obama's full racial speech, or read the full sermon of the pastor whose remarks were taken out of context of an amazing sermon? How many people actually saw Clinton's 3am commercial, or took the time to look up and see that she did have some major accomplishments as first lady. Our news cares about as much about the election as I care who won the knitting national championship, they just want to get paid and are going to put out what brings viewers (which is understandable), they are a public corporation who only answers to stock holders. But this is a very important election….do your research. One other note…no one is perfect, especially a politician….no matter how much they want us to think so, so we need to stop dwelling on the little stuff.

obama certainly is no rocky. lol

C'mon people use your head and don't beleive a person who would promise you anything with GOOD SPEECH!

People who don't know how to spell "believe" are also stupid.

1. Obama IS part of the system -- an INEFFECTIVE part of it, with a slim resume. Groomed up in dirty Chicago-style politics. 2.Ahern in Ireland said she was INTEGRAL in the Irish accord (but curiously was not broadcast to American public, only on Irish tv, where he "informed Obama of that". 3. Rocky is an inspirational story of not quitting under adverse circumstances. Who is that obtuse they cannot get that? 4. Assocations with racists & radicals, Michelle's whining dissertation & speeches on race, Rezko, humongous pay raise for wife, & folks want to talk embellishment on Bosnia? 5. As to women, article citing cold, impersonal treatment of Elizabeth Edwards when she challenged him on health care & not to forget the rural poor. He acted like that group was not of his concern. (probably weren't -- rural poor tend to be white!) Tired of his speeches without any backup. He did precious little for us in IL, used us as a ladder in his ambition, and only seems to really aid a select few. Maybe he can invite me over to his Highland Park McMansion he got at a discount of $300K so this "typicate white"woman can tell him how I really feel.

This IS my candidate but I am sorry to see him get petty toward his democratic rival.

I don't like her when she does that. I don't want him to start that up.

blind sheep for obama.

Typical Obama. Speak high tones, act low. He has to polish himself as shinny as possible and paying people pouring dirts all over the internet. Injecting race to the debate because that is what he is good at. Speaking against what's so ever without having detailed solution or just simply copying others' solution. I will not have my vote for sure. Sorry Obama, it is America! For the sake of our children, I cannot vote for such a double faced talker.

SHAME ON YOU HILLARY CLINTON! Understand this: Democrats are not racists because if they were they would not be democrats! Never quit? Like Rocky? You are hurting the Party and America. You know it is over but you wish to carry on to prevent Sen. Obama from winning against John McCain. Or is there anything else you are not telling us?

to JDS: I'm aware that you need to be in the system to change it, but Obama's done nearly nothing while in office to even begin the kind of change he's touting. I submit he's part of the problem, not the solution.

to sean: I see you've got that link to Obam's so-called outstanding accomplishments. Here's a beeter link from a more trusted source that debunks that set of half-truths and overstatements (shades of Hillary!!):

To RBF:
I find it hilarious when I see so called conservatives (ignorant foxnews viewers) who want to portray themselves as intellectuals. You should be incredibly stupid, like the clintonistas by the way, to not being able to make a difference between a dialectic speech and a policy-based speech where you have to be specific.
If you want to be specific about broken government, you may have to go from the totally unequal justice system (based on every single study we've had so far) and the mediocre and imbalanced healthcare system that put us, the richest country in the world, in the same spot as Cuba. You can even ask yourself why the system doesn't support at all any initiative to have a third party. And the list would have gone on forever.

PLEASE SPARE US YOUR CRETINISM

Frankly, Hillary and Obama are two dopes with not enough experience between them to blow up a balloon. McCain is wise to let these two cat-callers wipe each other out. It'll make it all the easier in November.

I really enjoyed the movie Rocky. It's a good movie.

Anyone who holds the notion that the federal government holds the key to their prosperity has their head buried in the sand. The federal government is incapable of improving your lifestyle or your place in life...only you are. Blame the government if you want but there are millions of both black and white achievers who overcame some type of adversity and are now successful. Obama's message once again pits the "haves" against the "have nots" further dividing our country. A have not, if he chooses to, can grab his own bootstraps and pull himself ahead much more quickley and efficiently than the government can or will.

An example of why system is broken. In 90's Hillary could have brought in health care reform, but didn't. The insurance corporations lobbyists managed to stop that
