The FOX News Obama Watch

FOX News has been counting the days since Sen. Barack Obama agreed to an interview. On Sunday, the clock stops with the airing of Chris Wallace, seated right, interviewing Obama.

The Swamp

by Mark Silva

How many days has it been since FOX News' Chris Wallace first received Sen. Barack Obama's promise to sit for an interview?

765, as of last Sunday.

But who's counting?

FOX is. And now the "Obama Watch'' of the Fair and Balanced Network -- how many people advertise watches on the invitation of a guest? -- wiill come to an end.

FOX News Sunday host Chris Wallace will sit with the senator from Illinois for an interview airing Sunday, officially stopping the "Obama Watch" clock that FOX News Sunday started running on March 16, tracking the time that had lapsed since Obama first accepted Wallace's invitation to appear as a guest: 730 days, 13 hours, 53 minutes and 18 seconds. Last Sunday, the clock counted 765 days, 13 hours, 54 min, 47 seconds.

Remind anyone of the clock that ABC News once ran -- Number of days of captivity for the hostages in Iran? This one should end with a similar sense of release.

Say what you will about Fox, but Chris Wallace seems like a journalist with a large degree of integrity and credibility. I have seen him skewer both Democrats and Republicans alike with the same vigor.

As for Fox, America needs something to counterbalance the likes of MSNBC.

I don't get it. Obama going to the devil for an interview. They are going to trap him, and we will never hear the end of it. At worst, they will get something they will make controversial and Hillary will jump on it for the NC and IN primaries.
Watch your step, please, Barack.

Obama claims he would meet with Ahmadinijad and Kim and Assad, but would not meet with Chris Wallace for 2 years? Boy, "Profiles in Courage" he ain't.

765. That's about the same number of days before Obama sits for an ABC interview, too. Seems like he has an aversion to any questionners except those with a fawning look in their eyes. Or who might question the "misstatements" he seems to make rather frequently (remember his interview with the Tribune editorial board?).

Obama’s stripes have become known; he's an elitist with radical sympathies. Not the qualities the majority of the country can accept. Fox News has a very large cable news audience and finally accepting the invitation is not a sign of conciliation, it’s a sign of Obama panic. He told O’Reilly he would go on his show sometime during the early primaries after his body guard almost went to blows with the bloviator; maybe Bill should show his clock.

Fox News.

We distort. You decide.

Well, let's see if Chris Wallace can top what George Stephanopolis and Charlie Gibson did to Obama last week. I'm sure the "fair and balanced" editorial staff at Fox won't let that go without a fight. Maybe we'll get more tough questioning about bitter people, pastors, 70 year old black militants that he sort of knows and elitism, you know, the real issues that matter to all of us.

McCain can go on the "View" where the combination of the hosts IQ equals 63, yet this vision of 'unity' can't go on fox for what reason? Just shows he is only intersted in 51 percent of the county. Just what we need more division

FOX is a shameful smear on the face of America.

Obama already knows that he has to go and try to explain Wrights latest comments in the interview with Moyers
The clips I saw in the interview - When asked about BO denouncing Wrights comments he (wright) stated that BO says what he has to as a politician
Which leads me to beleive that these two do the wink wink at each other when BO has to say any thing against Wright
This was not a snippit this was not something taken out of context this is what he said
Hillary and her campaign have recently complimented fox
so now BO has to try to impress fox as they are the only network that he doesnt have wrapped around his finger
If Wallace pampers him the way others do fox will lose their standing as the only network that covers fairly
Bo has to do this as he has too many wont dos on his record right now
debates interviews question answer- all the wont dos

He can't keep running from the jackals. Time to square off.
Remember when Bill Clinton was interviewed by Chris? If Barack looks at that tape--he'll be fine.

I love how people like to equate Fox News to the devil or worse. God forbid that a news source actually balance out the usual circuit of liberals with conservatives. We just can't have that.

These are the very same people that scream about diversity but if that diversity is an opinion different than their's, well, they just cant have that.

The fact of the matter is that if these lefty pols can't go into an inteverview that will not be posed by the left we shouldn't consider them for president. If they don't even want to speak to someone who just has a different view of things than they, how are they going to speak with someone like that nut in Iran who wants them dead along with the rest of us?

"Obama going to the devil for an interview"- John S., you're an idiot.

"We distort. You decide." - Kevin, you're a dolt.

"FOX is a shameful smear on the face of America." - snalg, you obviously haven't taken your medication this morning.

Dan C: That's because Obama could actually get something ACCOMPLISHED talking to Ahmadinijad and Kim and Assad.

I think that a President has to talk to its opposures , it is what needs to happen , to have a Clear understanding of the different points of view rather than the Opinion

The whole Fox News clock is so typically childish.

You want a real countdown? How about to when President Obama is sworn in.

270 days and counting.

My favorite bit is when Obama tells O'Reilly to 'talk to the hand' basically, kind of a 'gotta go Bill, can't talk to you right now'---LOVED IT!

I admire him for agreeing to the interview. They will be hostile and he knows it. At least he can try.

I hate to tell you but Fox has come a long way in the past 12 months. They are the only station that has been fairly covering the news on the election. They aren't biased they are fair and accurate. I din't like them a few years ago because they were so slanted. Now they have better reporters than, NBC and CNN.

Looking at people like Tiger Woods, Sec Rice, Collin Powell I have always thought that your skills and hard work is your limit in life until this Pennsylvania primary election. Obama simply lost to the cultural/racial demon. It really doesn’t matter how good, how much and how far you can go or do, people won’t just move beyond the racial/cultural divide. The worst fears and elements in so many white folks were simply activated by Hillary Clinton, some powerful media block like Sean Hannity and the A BC News exploiting the “bitter” comments, the Wright ‘s sermon and such like. It is amazing how people can simply overlook Hillary’s unrepentant lying attitude. I guess it is not easy to cross over the race / cultural bitterness after all.
Hillary is simply playing a loser's game. I don't believe she is a fighter as the media try to sing. She is simply a trouble maker, changing the rules, manipulating the voters, threatening the Party leadership and willing to do and say anything to win the nomination. You know how people behave when they want to have their way at all cost. There is no principle or forthrightness in her game. It is absolutely surprising that many Americans simply cannot see through her yet. I guess race and gender are powerful blind folders.
For all that Senator Obama has done or accomplished so far in this election, he should by now have won the nomination if he were white. This guy is simply amazing and fantastic. His message, personal life , campaign management, motivational skills, leadership excellence, funds management, his character under pressure and many more are just excellent and flawless. So they have to dig out things connected to a third party like Rev. Wright and others to try to redefine him and stop his movement. Again I say if he was a white person by now there would be no contest, the media would have recognized such an amazing contribution to the American political drama and the young new voices of change in America would by now be ringing louder and with the superdelegates singing along.
But I guess this experience is good for Obama so he can face the reality of the racial disease in American lives. He like me has been kind of aloof to the real pains and wounds in the older black generation and has always suggested a better way to go. He is about to realize that in the American political sphere it doesn't matter how personally good you are as a black man you can only go as far as some white folks want you to. How convenient is it for the Clintons to join forces with the Republicans , the powerful racial media block like Sean Hannity of Fox News and many others to play up the racial elements to brutalize Obama. That is exactly what happened in Pennsylvania. The Clintons are only a convenient tool in the hands of certain Republicans right now. When they are done with Obama they will tear her to shreds.
The black constituency will soon wake up from their dream that the Democratic party is the party of freedom when the superdelegates turn over the nomination to Hillary Clinton at the expense of Obama’s excellent performance which is according to the rules on the excuse of electability bla-bla-bla. It is all about recognizing Obama 's limitation in the general election because of the racial/cultural undertone.
Race / cultural demon is sublime, covert but real in American politics.
Senator Obama needs to confront this monster head on to save the change movement. This I believe is the major task of Change in bringing us together to change Washington ‘s game plan an albatross to good government. The movement may not move beyond this bridge if not seriously confronted.
The NC Republicans are already working up that same demon by the recent AD in the state. Ignoring this or giving weak response may be another mistake.
It is time to speak out forcefully against such maneuvers by all means and not just asking McCain to do it.
I think Obama’s campaign need a super rapid response, preemptive and counter attack machine

I wouldn't care if he never did a Fox interview. Anybody think Fox will want to hear about the Iraq war, health care, or the economy? We'll get to hear more brilliant Fox analysis of lapel pins, "bittergate", and a couple selected sermons from his former minister. Whoopee.

Let's see how many policy questions Chris Wallace asks? Will he get his questions from Sean Hannity like Stephanopolous did?

Fox News is more centrist than CNN or this newspaper.

Should Obama appear on American Idol? The Apprentice? The Office? These and Fox News all share something in common - they're entertainment. Their programming day is populated with self-important windbags that don't even bother to hide their bias. It's not news, people. The wingnuts can scream and protest until the sun comes down, and I wish they would.

Fox is an organ of the Republican party. Which "organ" they are is up to you to decide. But no other electronic media organization comes even remotely close to their level of coordination and propaganda...

Obama is so desperate because he knows he's on his way out.

Fox News Cahnnel is closer to "Fair and Balanced" than many other networks. It is much closer to the center than NBC from the opposite side.
Chris Wallace is very professional. Obama has more to gain than to loose after this interview if he is genuine.

Chris Wallace -- what a tool. Now that Rev. Wright has been interviewed with Faux, it's probably time that Sen. Obama go on and make himself really known to that constituency.

Why does Faux News have such a fascination with Senator Obama?

Dont' they have a war to promote?

Guess we'll have to wait and see what happens next.....ONLY ON FOX!

Fox news should not be allowed to use the adjective verb news. In the UK they are not allowed to be called news.

All you guys here smearing Fox News, can you offer one compelling example of what makes them as trashy and "distorting" as you seem to imply?

(crickets chirping)

This attitude is so typical of the Obamamaniacs.. Does it really feel good to belong to the chorus of lemmings reciting the "Change we can believe in" mantra, all without any substance? Do you really beleive anything would "change" in your world if Obama were in the oval office? Does he really have you convinced he can walk on water?

Same goes for the Fox-bashing habit. What exactly is the basis for your anti-Fox rant? Don't confuse the editorial content from Fox shows like O'Reilly with the straight news segments, by the way. There's a difference between objective news reports and opinion. Like most cable news channels, Fox offers both. Sure, the majority of Fox's editorial content leans to the right, and if you don't agree with those opinion shows you don't have to watch them. Just keep yourself immersed in the likes of Keith Obermann and Lou Dobbs so you don't hear any conservative viewpoints! You know this country is going to hell in a handbasket and, by golly, nothing's going to change your mindset on that front because that's what Obama and Hillary are telling you.

And whatever you do, don't ever stop to question any aspect of the liberal agenda, as that would be going against the herd mentallity. Don't think for yourself!

This shows how desperate the Obama campaign has become.

Obama is a smug, smirking con man. Nothing more. He will be defeated whether he goes on Fox or not.

Fox controls the questions, Obama controls the answers. It's the answers that are important. Apparently his feather pillow toting supporters don't think he can.

Fox news is such a joke. They keep bringing up the flag pin issue. Seriously, WHO CARES?

FOX NEWS. Coverage for frothing, fear and hate filled, war hungry, right-wing fanatics.

Why would Fox have a known associate of William Ayers on its airwaves? Luckily we can count on Wallace to nail Obama to the wall on Ayers and other topics, such as his lies about not accepting oil and lobbyist money.

Obama claims he would meet with Ahmadinijad and Kim and Assad, but would not meet with Chris Wallace for 2 years? Boy, "Profiles in Courage" he ain't.

Sadly, Ahmadinijad has more credibility than FOX News. Yeah, I said it.

Obama oughta turn the table right back on Fox 'News'==about 6500 veterans committ suicide yearly.

Why did it take CBS to do the story--not Fox?

If Chris Wallace doesn't wimp out and actually gets to ask Obama questions not about health care and other liberal nostalgia but tough questions why do you hang out with scum indicted fixer Tony Rezko,Rev Jeremiah Wright white racist Pastor, William Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn the unrepentant Weather Men terrorists who don't think they bombed enough and they held a fundraiser for B Hussein in 1995 at their home he didn't run into them at the grocery store and he served on a board with Ayers, what about Nadmi Auchi who Obama says he can't remember meeting him at the Four Seasons Hotel at a Rezko fundraiser it just happened Obama was at the hotel. What about the 17 years steering high rises for mayor Daley to Rezko.
Obama says all this plus Louis Farakhan's friendship is just a distraction from real issues like global warming. Yea right Obama! Jerry White, Springfield, IL

If you think Fox News is a right wing organization you're probably a far left nut job like Barrack.

Any Democrat (or anyone less conservative than Bill O'Reilly) meeting with Fox News is like Ronald Reagan meeting with Pravda. Fox News is not a news organization; it's a propaganda tool which exists solely to promote the financial interests of its owner, Rupert Murdoch.

"This was not a snippit this was not something taken out of context this is what he said"

Betty,

If that was ALL he said, you would be correct, but the interview takes up an entire TV show which, unless Moyers spoke the entire rest of the time, and Wright uttered ONE SENTENCE, then it is exactly a SNIPPET or TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT.

Do you understand what snippet and the phrase "taken out of context" mean?

Apparently not, judging from your post.

snippet [-pit] noun
a little piece, especially of information, gossip etc
Example: a snippet of news

The practice of "quoting out of context", sometimes referred to as "contextomy," is a logical fallacy and type of false attribution in which a passage is removed from its surrounding matter in such a way as to distort its intended meaning. Quoting out of context is often a means to set up "straw man" arguments. Straw man arguments are arguments against a position which is not held by an opponent, but which may bear superficial similarity to the views of the opponent.

I agree that Fox has come a long way from what they were just a year or two ago. The Obama fans hate Fox because it is the only media source that even attempts to treat Obama as something other than Our Lord and Savior. Were it not for Fox News and Saturday Night Live, Obama would STILL be getting a free pass. The Obama Media only started some coverage of the negative Obama stories after Fox forced their hand. You go, Fox!

Anybody heard any more about how the pentagon has been spending taxpayer money to propagandize the american public. What's that? No. I'm sure Fox, the fair and balanced upholders of all things good and great, defenders of the constitution, must be trumpeting this huge story. What a sad chapter in American history we are currently writing.

I love hearing these shallow uninformed slams on Fox News. Yes, it does slant to the Republican view, but you will never ever hear libs slam MSNBC for their obvious left wing bias. To them, Keith Olberman is Walter Cronkite and Fox is the National Enquirer. Why is it so bad and unacceptable for a news network to balance out the news coverage, since all the major networks, CNN, and MSNBC are all left leaning in their news coverage. Just like Aaron put it above, all you libs are so into diversity unless diversity is an opinion you do not agree with. It just kills libs that other people would want to hear a different side of the story.

To: ebanbata's comment of April 25th at 9:37am. You state that if Obama were not black then he already would have been nominated. I say, that because he is black he has gotten this far. Obama has his used his 1/2 black race to his advantage signing up many first time black voters. This says to me that that these individuals are only voting because Obama is black. They are not voting for anyother reason. If Obama portrayed himself as a white candidate with the extremely limited experience that he has; then would he get those first time voters that have not voted in decades?

Sick puppy, so Keith Olbermann and Chris "Spit" Matthews are not self-important windbags?

Here is the low-down on some of the interviewers on networks other than Fox. Tim Russert: before working for NBC, Russert was a Democratic operative who worked for the likes of Mario Cuomo and Pat Moynahan and Tip O'Neil.
George Stephanopoulos (who the Left loves to hate now): before working for ABC, he was a Democratic operative who worked on the Clinton 1992 campaign, 1996 campaign and in the Clinton White House.
Chris "Spit" Matthews: this NBC News employee cut his name as a Democratic operative who worked in the Carter White House.
PBS's Bill Moyers: another Democratic operative who worked for the Kennedy and Johnson administrations.
When one watches Meet the DePressed, Face the Nation, This Week, Hardbroiled with Spit Matthews or any other similar program, you're lucky if you get a token conservative on the panel. At least on Fox News Sunday, you get two conservatives and two liberals.
And Chris Wallace? Well, before working for Fox News, he was admired by those on the Left. I always thought Wallace was more fair than most journalists. Anyway, when he interviews his guests -- Republican or Democrat -- he is equally tough and equally fair.
Keith Olbermann: yeah, he has all the balance of a car with two missing wheels on the right side.

Please ask B.Obama how he never new Daniel T.Frawley was Rezkos' partner? When he was not only a friend for 17 years but had previously represented Rezko. Because I am quite sure Dan Frawley would not hesitate to mention his partnership with him.
Please ask him how he didn't know the condition of the Rezko buildings, "that sit in his district". Ask him about Companion Security, Al Sammarae, Mahru & Frawley and how he feels about their attept to profit off the war effort in Iraq. Does he think they should be tried for treason, because I think anyone who puts are soldiers in harms way by stealing money, should pay the highest price.
I hope Chris Wallace reads the John Batchelor of Human Events reports and also the 60 Minutes report "State of Corruption" both will show you whats at stake if this man is elected.

I hope Obama talks about real issues that affect everyone, like the way the Pentagon embedded its analysts with major media like FOX News to promote the drumbeat for an illegal war. Obama can also talk about his concerns that a citizen of communist China (Rupert Murdoch) uses his U.S. media properties as a vehicle to promote anti-American values, such as illegal wars, subverted justice investigations, the torturing of detainees, and so on. These are major concerns for most patriotic Americans.

I'm not sure why Senator Obama needs to appear on Fox News. There are plenty of legitimate news outlets for him to be inteviewed on.

It must be a spiritual exercise to visit a leper colony...

Notice how the Swamp didn't run an item about how MSNBC recently signed a deal with Air America to help keep the liberal radio network alive? Imagine the uproar amongst the lefties around here if Rush Limbaugh's EIB entered into a partnership with Fox. MSNBC has been trying for years to become the liberal network yet no one in the swamp has even taken notice.
This is the stuff they ignore when they're not censoring the views of the conservative posters here.

Besse--in today's 'narrowcast' world of media--the ONLY people who WOULD ask your questions are at the Nation or Democracy Now.

"This insane claim of fairness is preposterous. The big three networks and CNN stifle any seeping opinion with a deadening evenhandedness. If you watch CBS news for 48 hours, you will detect a slightly left bias in story choice and interview subjects. If you watch Fox News for 48 seconds, the right wing bias will stomp you on the head. The straight news broadcasts may be judicious, but O'Reilly is clearly a conservative predator (except on global warming and gun control). Hannity is smarter, funnier, quicker, and better looking than Colmes. Most of Fox's contract analysts, such as Newt Gingrich etc. are conservative stalwarts. TomPaine.com has dubbed Fox "GOP-TV."

Posted by: Nancy White | April 25, 2008 10:50 AM

Your name says it all.

I think the ball is in Fox's court with this interview. There ratings are going to soar and the country and the world are going to see what they really are. Are they going to be of service to the voters, or are they going for a cheap, tabloid showdown? They could win a lot of viewers who have turned from them in disgust if they do an issue-based and not character-based interview. I'm not optimistic, but good for Obama for putting himself in the line of fire (but only after making them beg for it).

My God you mean there are people out there who actually still think Fox is fair and balanced.. really? HAHAHAHAHA.... oh thats funny!!. The worst offenders of reporting for the last 5 years and oh .. I can't stop laughing.. this is a joke right? That anyone believes any reporter on Fox is not the most biased right wing nut jobs in history. Rupert Murdoch owns Fox news. Thats the ONLY example that needs bringing up. As far as the blasts on K. Olbermann. He is the smartest, fairest most courageous person there is on TV. But really Fox as news. hahahaha

Posted by: Valrie Sommerville | April 25, 2008 9:36 AM

That's only beacuse, like the cowards they are, they blow with the wind. They are being "slightly" more balanced, because they realize they have to deal with a Democratic congress and (most likely) a Democratic president for the next several years.

I don't believe this. I just don't! Surely Obama's people have warned him about this mistake, Surely they must have made a strong case. He can't be this stupid. FOX News hates all Dems and will do anything and everything to trip up Obama. He's walking into a trap, one that's he will regret. Either he's incredibly smart or incredibly stupid.
We'll see.

I hope Obama takes the fight to the FOX propagandists. Ask them why FOX has shamelessly promoted the disastrous Iraq War funded by debt, debt, and more debt.

What a laugh reading remarks posted by sonofagun above. I bet he really spends time scanning the networks to understand how many stories are carried on Fox that no other network carries. The list is large. It's called balanced reporting.

Apparently a lot of people are still drinking the Obama koolaid. We do not know this man and he does not answer about Rev. Wright, Ayers, Rezko, or anything else. His choice of associates is very troubling!

He says a lot but I hear nothing! Hillary lies and he hides. I do admit I don't think McCain is a great candidate but at least you know what he stands for and he will take the correct action against terrorists, will be better for health care, and the economy.

The Liberals would make all that a bureaucratic, corrupt mess! It would be Illinois and Chicago politics nation wide. Is that what our country needs now (or ever)? I think not!

Yes, if Fox actually does a fair & balanced interview (yea, right) and does stick with the issues instead of hitting below the belt than it could help their sagging ratings which from what I read is below CNN. Fox is nothing more than entertainment who has a limited following from their "Wacko Right Wing Neo-Con Nut Jobs", thus the low ratings...

If the word "change" did not exist, BO and all the BOmaniacs would have nothing to talk about. It's all sizzle and no steak - no experience. Can't wait for the McCain-BO debates, where experience and WISDOM will triumph over hope and change (as in "I sure HOPE I can CHANGE things and not make them WORSE")

David M - Your statement regarding sagging ratings at Fox is either not factual or at least certainly not of Fox News Sunday or the Fox News Channel. The Sunday program is the 4th most watched news-talk show and the Fox News Channel is Number 1 by a wide margin over CNN almost every day. You can find daily and weekly ratings at this site.

at least you know what he (John McCain) stands for and he will take the correct action against terrorists,

You mean like when he was against tax cuts before he was for them? Do you mean like when he gave a passionate speech on the floor of the Senate advocating withdrawel from al-Qaeda in Somalia???

I have to agree with all those who didn't particularly care for FOX until this election cycle so dramatically exposed the MSM as the hypocritically, sanctimonious shills they've proven to be. Now I watch FOX almost exclusively. It may not be completely fair and balanced, but it certainly has proven itself light years ahead the NBC's, MSNBC's and CNN's when it comes to objective journalism. I can never take anything spouted by those networks seriously again.

All the hatred for Bush that is spewed in the SWAMP reminded me of this story - anyone want to bet he is a move-on member?
