KOKOMO, Ind. -- When Sen. Barack Obama laced up his basketball shoes Friday evening for a three-on-three game with some players half his age, he was doing something that could prove important should he become the Democratic nominee: looking young and healthy.
In a rare move by his presidential campaign, network news cameras were allowed to record Obama, 46, moving up and down the court, playing a game that is almost a religion in this state.
While his relative lack of Washington experience has been repeatedly used against him, Obama's youth and athleticism could offer a dramatic general election contrast with Sen. John McCain, 71, the likely Republican nominee.
But in a Tribune interview Friday, Obama said he has no plans to use McCain's age against him, should he win the nomination. He also discounted suggestions that the Arizona Republican is too old to be president.

Comments
Republican Strategy: (1) help Hillary Clinton secure the Democratic Nominee; (2) McCain to actively try to win over African Americans that the Clintons have alienated, so that they will vote for McCain in November! So that is why you see McCain actively seeking out the support of African-Americans now, hoping to woo them back into the fold of the Republican party while, they smile in glee as the Clintons alienate them by their kitchen sink strategy. The Republicans in their plan to help Hillary make Barack look unelectable through their surrogates, Joe Scarborough, Pat Buchanan and others, continually ask their watching public to sow doubts, "do we really know who this guy is?" (ever after Barack wrote two very personal autobiographical books); they ask: "why can't this guy seal the deal?", then they continually bring up Rev. Wright, as if Rev. Wright's statements were Barack's. Do they ask of Clinton, "Was it not Rev. Wright you called on for prayer and support after the Monica Lewinsky scandal and invited him to the White House?" No, they rather ask with indignance, "why did he Barack) sit there for 20 years" though Rev. Wright's 9-11 comments were not 20 years ago but five. Then they praise Hillary -- saying how smart she is, how tough; how she can attract blue-collar white workers and dismiss all of the white support Barack gets in every election. They even praise her for her ability to drink down shots and for her acting ability to turn herself into a working-class girl who can shoot ducks behind a cottage (possibly another Bosnian fabrication) -- in otherwords for her performances and lies. Chris Matthews calls it impressive! In otherwords, they do not reward truth and authenticity in our politicians but how well they can act which has nothing to do with the true governing of a society.
Their plan and plotting is to get Hillary elected Democratic nominee, then unleash the "arsenal of weapons" they have against her and Bill, for they have been Planning this for a long time; then defeat her in the Fall with the very help of African-Americans that the Clintons have alienated and that McCain is so eagerly trying to impress at this time; -- beautiful though Machiavellian!
Let's be clear, Barack is fighting a Two-headed Giant: the Clintons as a unity for they are one, the Republican Party: McCain, Cable Television: Joe Scarborough, Pat Buchanan, Wolf Blitzer Rush Limbaugh (we need to have Barack bloodied up) & Fox News -- a Mighty Giant indeed. Hillary actively seeks their support to help her beat Barack but they will turn against her like a mighty sword if she was to become the Democratic nominee come fall.
It is not easy to overcome this Mighty Giant of Special Interest Money & Corporate Greed, but what we can do, is to identify who they are and not give them anymore Power. Turn off TV shows which are disingenuous and have their own political agenda that is not in keeping with the welfare of the people, stop buying their books or newspapers, write more articles about the ways they try to divide us and fool us, write/call and email them and their producers our objections to the way they are reporting non-news, gossip, and trying to brainwash us for their own continued domination of the masses. Maybe we will have to write their sponsors and complain -- hit them in their pocket book. We all have to get involved in this effort. We can no longer let them distract us or divide us. We too have power!

Make note: Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and the other dirt diggers already have prepared their week long diatribes on this which will more than likely dredge up the midnight basketball scenario of 10 years ago and every negative racial stereotype attributed to this sport. You can bet the main stream TV media are not going to run loops of him playing basketball nearly as much as they ran the bowling loops.
When he becomes president, Obama will no doubt have more of the press and political hob knobs on the basketball court than other presidents had them on the golf course.

There's a destructive--I'll knock the legs off the table if I don't get a seat at it--vibe to the Obama campaign. Why's he wearing a marine corps shirt? It just reminds me of the vibe I got when watching Gomer Pyle in the 60s--like the fake patriotism, the militarism was being forced on us. Like he's saying 'blame the Hillary people--they're unpatriotic--for my demise in PA.
I think the problem he encountered was entirely of his own making.
And it did not help that the national media (t.v. particularly) was so anti-Hillary.
MSNBC (and wasn't he interviewed with the woman who was so hostile, so attack dog toward Geraldine Ferraro) was ridiculous.
The sympathetic media do him--and US--no favors long term.
He could have been vetted and POSSIBLY still earned the State House seat.
But what's alarming is the refusal to apologize for the racism, sexism, ageism--and when you tear apart the PA vote--that's why he cannot be the top of the ticket in the Fall.
It would be a powerful message to have him as veep, though.
But the campaign must stop cherry picking the media reps.
What Obama did to McClatchy's Margaret Talev at the Daily Show appearance. and what MSNBC did 'for' Obama with the editing of his stupid gesture will NOT help him in Indiana.
It's important to understand what GE--war profiteer and nuke power pusher--DID to that tape:
Here's three links---1. the LONG version with the wide shot, audio up and video in ORDER of occurrence; 2. the SHORT version with audio intact and video in ORDER of occurrence; and 3. the distorted version by MSNBC with the order/audio distortions and the anchor LYING for Barack Obama.

While Senator Clinton's specialty sport, tag-teaming, with Senator McCain, against Senator Obama, is big in Indiana, it is not as big as basketball. The Hoosier State is really a strong supporter of basketball and, l hope, Senator Obama. He is fighting to make the Democratic Party stronger, as it heads into the general election, and our Republican opponent!! He needs every loyal Democrat that is not obsessed with their own interests. Support Senator Obama, all of you Hoosiers, he will make you proud of America, once again!!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE. NOW.

You're paid to do this, angellight/juliemack, right?
These sort of adhominem attacks on HIllary and her cause are DRAINING the party of goodwill, cohesiveness, money, and energy to fight the republicans in the Fall.
Your messiah is a sellout to the energy companies.
He's a sellout to the military industrial complex and you know it.
Stop hurting America, Obama HQ.

Why should Obama bother to slime McCain about McCain's age?
Obama can always depend on his surrogates, especially his media surrogates, to do the dirty work for him.

A good way to stay in physical shape! Senator Obama's message of change and hope will prevail against the poliltics of yesteryear which both Hilliary and McCain represent. The majority of Americans ARE ready for change for the betterment of our beloved country. There are a few states, such as Pennsylvania, who are still living in the darkness of bigotry and and racism....as Penn's Gov Rendell said, the whites in Penn will not vote for a black man. How racist and bigotted is such a comment?? At the time he said that, I thought it was crude to label the citizens of PA as racists and bigots. Unfortunately, the majority have proven they are EXACTLY that!! What a shame for Pennsylvania!! They would rather have a LIAR and a FRAUD as their leader. Do those people even know what INTEGRITY, HONESTY, and GOOD CHARACTER mean? Guess not!

Wow, mental acuity, athletic ability and teamwork, at the same time. Now thats a Commander in Chief I would be comfortable with.

WHAAAT? You got a "vibe" from the old Gomer Pyle USMC episodes that fake patriotism and militarism was being forced on you????!!! You are kidding right? I think there are a bunch of Billary supporters that are frankly losing it- kind of like your schizo candidate.
Barack will be the nominee - better get used to it or vote for Billary's 71 year old twin.

I think the problem he encountered was entirely his own making We like our presidents ignorant popping off about nuking the middle east or bragging that they finished 5 from bottom of their class. Yes other countries have old men for presidents but NO leading country does, and Germany has a woman and she would never make such foolish remarks.
You will find no leading country voting based on fears and no leading country pushing out the best and brightest. The entire nation is being held back by old fearful xenophobic fools getting all their news from MSM talking heads who will soon find that they too are candidates for outsourcing.
It is a shame when bbc, canada, telemundo, french24 are able to provide a better more accurate analysis of America, and world events

One thing I find disturbing in some of these comments, and some of the coverage of the Democratic primaries, is the assertion that those who do not support Obama must be racist. For example, "NinaK" said the majority in PA must be racist. Why? Because they supported Hillary? How ridiculous. Maybe those people actually like and support her bid for the presidency??
Anyway, I'm a Republican and will proudly support Sen. McCain in the fall, but were I a Democrat, I'd be embarrassed at the way your party is tearing each other apart. Can't you folks just pick a nominee on his/her merits and not be accused of racism or sexism? (or in McCain's case could we accuse people of ageism!!??) :)

i grew up on the banks of the wabash. people there despise hillary. but they wouldn't vote for a black person for president if jesus christ himself asked them to do it. just like pennsylvanians, they'll vote for whitezillary in may, then mccain in the fall. the only question is, how did the "democratic" party get a reputation for "liberalism" in the first place?

Why I like Obama better than Hill?
Deportment
even when the press sets up Obama to take ashot at Hil or McCain...he takes the high road.......he actually knows what "respect" means and how to be respectfull......

I'm a 64 yr old, life long Republican, who supports Barack Obama. If he is the nominee I will campaign & vote for him. If Hillary is the nominee I will support & vote for McCain.
It's not just the people on the banks of the wabash who despise Hillary.

Here's the pattern:
1. BARACK SCREWS UP
2. THE MEDIA COVERS IT
3. HILLARY, ASKED TO COMMENT, EITHER DEFERS OR IS VERY MODERATE IN HER COMMENTS.
4. BARACK ATTACKS HER.
When Hillary does something the media can pounce on, the pattern is:
1. BARACK'S SURROGATES GO FOR HER JUGULAR.
2. HILLARY THEN DEFENDS HERSELF AGAINST THE OBAMA ATTACK/MEDIA SUPPORT MACHINE
3. OBAMA HIMSELF ACCUSES HER OF ATTACKING HIM.
He learned how to do this by stepping on Alice Palmer's jugular to get on his first ballot.
He ain't who you think he is.
