The senior senator from Illinois was asked today if it is “fair game’’ for Sen. Hillary Clinton’s senior adviser to be talking about Sen. Barack Obama’s relationship with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright in the talks that camp Clinton has been holding with the party’s undecided superdelegates.
“They can raise whatever issues they wish to,’’ said Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), in an interview with MSNBC. “But I know the superdelegates… feel as I do,’’ he said, “When Barack Obama made that speech in Philadelphia’’ the candidate “took the discussion to a new level.’’
Obama disavowed what was unacceptable in his retired pastor’s remarks, Durbin suggested, but then took the issue of race to a higher plane with that Philadelphia address on race and unity.
It has been reported that Harold Ickes, senior adviser to the Clinton campaign, has been reminding superdelegates of the Wright-remark baggage which Obama’s campaign is carrying. But “I think Mr. Ickes is not going to get very far,’’ Durbin said. “Our superdelegates who I’ve spoken to were very impressed with Sen. Obama’s response.’’
Asked about the duration of the Democratic race, Durbin, a key Obama-backer from the beginning, said: “This will end when it ends… Barack can’t control that at this moment… It’s up to Sen. Clinton… She’s the only one who can make this decision…The voters will instruct her, but she’ll make the final deicsion.’’
“The momentum,’’ he maintained, is on Obama’s side.

This is Hillary Clinton: Whitewater, Travelgate, Monica Lewinsky and impeachment, renting out the Lincoln bedroom, the loss of the Rose Law Firm billing records for nearly 2 years until they were miraculously found in the White House living quarters, removing files from Vince Foster’s office following his suicide and before investigators could get there. Her stalling to release her full tax returns and earmark requests from her time in the Senate, as well as her Clinton library donors. Her apology to the African American community (for her campaigns racist comments) which came days too late. Her decline to return $170,000 in campaign contributions from individuals at International Profit Associates, or IPA accused of widespread sexual harassment, and whose CEO is a disbarred lawyer with a criminal record. Lets not forget her campaign eventually returned some $850,000 to Hong Kong businessman Norman Hsu who was found to be a fugitive in a 15-year old theft case. He was indicted for fraud related to his campaign contributions in 2007. Her failed inclusion and diplomacy with congress on her universal health care bid. Her subsequent surrender and alignment to the health care industry. Her flip flop on NAFTA. Her flip flop on Iraq. Her flip flop on Florida and Michigan. Her exaggerated foreign policy experience. Her dealing the race card better than Republicans could. Clinton photo with Rezko. Clinton photo and prayer breakfast with Rev Wright. Her lies about Bosnia. Her failure to get the endorsement of close friend Bill Richardson. Her flip flop on pledged delegates and superdelegates by encouraging party elite to vote against the will of the people - “I believe strongly that in a democracy, we should respect the will of the people and to me, that means it’s time to do away with the Electoral College and move to the popular election of our president.” - Hillary Clinton in 2000

So the voters are supposed to put validity in Dick Durbin's judgement? The same Dick Durbin who whole heartedly endorsed MR. Tax and Tax, Todd Stroger; the same Dick Durbin who as Senate Majority Whip has been one of the Democratic "leaders" who's lack of spine has allowed George W. Bush to continue his violations of the Constitution? The same Dick Durbin who garnered the nickname of "Senator Bobblehead" because he kept giving different answers regarding the 3rd Chicago airport, depending on which audience that he was speaking to. The same Dick Durbin who is Richie Daley's poodle.I have been a "Yellow Dog Democrat" all of my life but I will receive great satisfaction come November to register my protest vote against this prime enabler of the corrupt Cook County Democratic machine.

Exactly. Obama has taken American politics to a new level as well and let's hope we can all rise to the occasion.

I agree, he did take the argument to a new level and used these hateful comments to bring up truths in this country that have been overlooked and forgotten....we are living with racism, we have not risen above it or faced it fully.....obama08

ickes is a dog. but, I guess hillary loses on all objective measures so I guess they'll have to keep digging in the gutter.

Obama is not responsible for what wright said. Hillary is responsible for what she has said. If you google the name Jerry Zeifman, prior chief of staff for the House Judiciary Committee, he has told the media that he fired hIllary several years ago for lying (his word) and related unethical conduct. Strange that this gets so little media coverage

Sorry Obamabots, but the Rev. Wright situation is not going to go away. Neither will the Rezko situation. Period.

If Clinton wins Pennsylvania by only 5 points or less, should she withdraw?

Barack Obama personifies the qualities described by James McBrids's tribute to his white mother, "The Color of Water.".....

"TYPICAL SPEAKS"
I too admit that Barack Obama and or Hillary Clinton should be the next President.
I also agree that Senator Clinton should not step out of the race. Because I believe there are many of races in this one race.
"SPIRIT OF THE RACE" has become the metaphor of every hour of the day. "SPIRIT OF THE RACE" is NOT ONLY ABOUT RACE, BUT ABOUT the "GENDER OF THE RACE"
When you listen to Cobb County talk show host, speak of ill "FAITHS" that half of Hispanic Children's dad are not around so they tend to vote DEMOCRATIC.
When you listen to Rush Limbaugh, call a U.S. Senator a"B" is not only "deflamatory" but should be a FCC Violation as it instill HATE.
When you listen to talk show host speak of UNMARRIED women and that they want to be Married to the Government and that is why they want "UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE" and that the unmarried will outlast the "MARRIED" ONE CAN ONLY BEG THAT SENATOR CLINTON STAYS IN THE RACE.
THE SPIRIT OF THE RACE
AND THE SPIRIT OF THE GENDER RACE!
It's what we want, and it's what we need FOR THAT MORE PERFECT UNION BARACK WAS TALKING ABOUT!

MJ, way to stay on subject. Your pathetic smearing posts mean nothing to the educated.
Well, back on topic: Yet another high ranking official for Obama and asking HRC to resign in PC terms? I'll act shocked, but it is really starting to get repetitious.

Rev. Wright like everyone else in America is protected by "Freedom of Speech" and he has a right to say what ever he wants whether it be racist or hateful...it's his choice.
Obama also has the right to chose to attend a church where the pastor promotes propoganda that insults the 911 victims, White Americans the Italian and Jewish communities and America in general. If he feels comfortable surrounded by hate and racism...that is his choice.
However, as Americans we also have a choice and we choose NOT to support a candidate like OBAMA who defends a pastor who promotes hatred and racism against America and it's people.
We choose NOT to support a candidate who Lied to us about what he heard in that church.
We choose NOT to support a candidate who expects us to believe that he is so out of touch with reality that he never knew in those 20 years what his pastor was promoting and preaching.
We choose NOT to support a candidate who expects us to believe that his lies....when in fact over a year a go he had already discussed with Rev. Wright the possibility of his distancing himself from Wright because he knew the church would be seen as controversial.
Our choice is NO to OBAMA .

Hillary Clinton should stay in the race for the presidency as long as she wants, meaning at least until someone wins. Which, it should be noted, hasn’t happened yet.
A few things to note.
First, the chorus of people calling for Hillary to withdraw is comprised exclusively of people who support her opponent.
Of course they have every right to voice their opinions, as they have, but telling her she should pull out because she’s 1 percent or 100 or so delegates behind. But given that their own candidate has yet to win, or persuade, a sufficient number of delegates to claim a majority, let’s not mistake such calls for a high-minded moral position.
It’s trying to win by default. I don’t blame Obama’s supporters for trying to win any way they can, but the pros in the press should not confuse this with anything other than the tactical move it is.
Second, imagine the positions were reversed.
Which brings me to my third point. The race will be over when it’s over. Not sooner and not later.
