Voters are divided over Sen. Barack Obama’s response to the controversy surrounding his longtime and now retired pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, a new poll shows.
And Hillary Clinton’s already polarized ratings have intensified in recent days, with the new NBC/Wall Street Journal poll portraying only 37 percent of those surveyed giving the senator from New York a positive personal rating – the lowest for Clinton that the NBC/Journal poll has recorded since March 2001, just after her election to the Senate. In that poll, 48 percent hold an unfavorable view of her.
The NBC/Journal poll also echoes what the Gallup Poll found this month: significant numbers of Democrats – more than one in five in this survey – say they could move to Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona if their Democratic candidate loses in the protracted primary contest that is headed into a major primary vote in Pennsylvania.
NBC's Chuck Todd also suggests: "Among Obama voters, Clinton has a net-negative personal rating (35-43) while Clinton voters have a net-positive view of Obama (50-29). Taken together, this appears to be evidence that Obama, intially, should have the easier time uniting the party than Clinton. ''
The poll found:
-- 32 percent of the voters surveyed said the senator from Illinois had "sufficiently addressed the issue’’ of Wright’s controversial comments from the pulpit of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, 26 percent said he needs to address the Wright controversy further and 31 percent either did not see his Philadelphia speech last week or had no opinion about it.
-- Among those who saw the speech: 47 percent said Obama sufficiently addressed the Wright issue, 37 percent said he needs to address it more.
-- Among white voters: 45 percent were satisfied with Obama's explanation, 38 percent were not.
-- Among black voters: 67 percent were satisfied with his explanation, and 25 percent want him to address it further.
The survey was taken Monday and Tuesday. The Hart-McInturff survey of 700 registered voters carries a possible margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points and over-sampled black voters to get a more precise reading on the Wright question.
Among all voters surveyed, NBC's Todd reports this morning: 55 percent were "disturbed" by the videos of excerpts from Wright’s sermons circulating on Cable TV news and online.
Still, 60 percent of voters surveyed said Obama could be successful at uniting the country, 58 percent said Sen. John McCain of Arizona could succeed at this and 46 percent said so of Clinton.
Yet this was down from January, when 67 percent said so of Obama, 68 percent said so of McCain and 55 percent said so of Clinton.
In matchups: Obama and Clinton stood dead even at 45 percent support among Democrats surveyed. And Obama held a 2 percentage point advantage over McCain, while McCain held a 2 point-edge over Clinton – all within the margin of error.
And, as the Gallup Poll also has found this month, significant numbers of Democratic voters – more than 20 percent – could move to McCain if their candidate loses.

Why are polls taken to discover Black's and White's views on issues that have to do with race? It's like Loud Dobbs asking people if they think the middle class is being squeezed. 95% say yes all the time such questions are asked. Really! If you ask White people if slavery existed and harmed black people 70% will say no. If you ask Black people the same question 90% will say yes. Neither group will ever, ever agree to the same thing. So why bother?
The media needs something to talk about and a story like Rev Wright fills up a lot of space to get those high price hosts and pundits paid. They all ask the same panel of experts the same questions all day long. "Weigh in on this, what's you take on that, what are your sources telling you?" MSNBC, CNN, Fox are all nuts. A host of one show will appear as a guest on another show chattering away like squirrels. It's like incest taking place before our eyes. I've heard someone ask an expert "what do you think is keeping this story going?" The reply should have been "you are ya dope."
I'm looking forward to the Rev Wright issue giving Sean Hannity a nervous breakdown and sending him to mental institution. Maybe the same one that Rush Limbaugh has been in.

Those voters who said they will move to McCain must be the same slime bag Rush Limbaugh Republicans who are switching over right now and voting for Hillary to try and have an effect on our Democratic primary. How pathetic is that ? Judging by how this country has been screwed by Bush, I can't see how anyone can vote Republican in November.

Obama/McCain ticket would really be a dream ticket. I enjoy McCain common-sense, and integrity on the mortgage crisis. He knows that greed and using options rather than the fundamentals of solid business is what has caused this mortgage crisis. We have people who have engage in predatory lending practices and have cooked the books to make this gigantic bubble happen. Many of these so call investments banks have behaved like MCI and Enron. They need to be hold accountable. Yes, families need relief from loans they aggreed to but did not have the know how to realize what they were getting into and how hard it was going to be to pay them back. Many of these borrowers live paycheck to paycheck. Underwriters know that people will phase hardship from time to time, like job loss or medical emergency (since you can't really count on your medical insurance company to pay the bill). Instead of working with their clients, they load them with penalties, and fees that would force the homeonwer to foreclose. The mortgages when the housing market was hot would just resell the property to another unsuspecting buyer, and keep doing this quite profitably. Well, the result we see it today. You can not separate risk from investments. Risk management through options without good valuations on the assets and market conditions is just gambling. So, why should I as a tax payer be in the business of bailing these greedy crooks out. Good businesses thrive, those who can't deliver go away. Then, good company's with efficient business models are born. To bail out gambling in Wall Street will only encourage more gambling, more cooking of the books, and deception. As a result we are going to pay for it either through our taxes, or forfeiting our pension plans. I'd rather forfeit my pension plan. The mortgage crisis is a Wall Street problem, and rather than taking the easy road Wall Street needs to do what it is required to mitigate the crisis they created, before coming to me Mr. Dog catcher, average citizen, who does not ride on a Roll on Colombus Ave.

Kind of sad that the people have been passing around the Pastors page pamphlets from the TUCC about anti Israel and pro Hamas views for a month now. There are 116 UCC churches in Chicago and dozen with in miles from Obama's home. Why this anti American ideals church? WOW it takes Fox, ABC and MSNBC to all air it before we get one word on CNN. Also the news finally being reported about the anti American statements that America is run by white racists. Yet still he supports the pastor and this church. A MONTH, COME ON GUYS REALLY? ARE YOU A NEWS NETWORK OR A HIDE OUR HEAD IN THE SAND IF IT BAD ABOUT OBAMA CAMPAIGN HEAD QUARTERS? NO VETTING ALLOWED! NO HARD QUESTIONS OR NEGATIVE FINDING SHARED TO BE REPORTED TO AMERICA! SHAME ON YOU CNN! VERY SAD WHEN WE THE PEOPLE HAVE TO FIND OUR OWN FACTS AND GET OUR OWN NEWS!

Yesterday Obama said that a 30 second clip was all the media played over and over again when Wright gave 3 speeches a week for 30 years. Yea and Obama is still on Wright's side even though he was a anti-white and anti-Jewish racist. Wright blamed white people for giving blacks Aids and saying God damn America.
I think Obama is Rip Van Winkle sleeping in the pews for 20 years or more and then his Grand Mother was thrown under the bus for Wright by Obama. By the way his grandmother was more than a typical white person as Obama said --she was Vice Presisdent of an Hawaii bank. Give me a break Obama! Jerry White, Springfield, IL

It is more important that the democrats win the White House rather than who the candidate is. Should the idea of a compromise candidate be floated? And if so who would be a better compromise candidate than Al Gore?

I have always doubted the validity of the polls. I still do, as far as I am concerned they are slanted for Obama and have been since the beginning.
I am going to vote for McCain because there is no way Hillary will win the primary w/out my vote since it is part of the lost Michigan votes.
We have been "W'ed" again; only this time my votes don't count because of my own party. Some centuries it stinks to be an American.

One month ago before I was informed about Wrigth and Obama, I would have agreed with Ed Connors (above). For sure, the Republicans should not be getting back the White house after 8 years of Bush.
However, now that I know about what a racist bigot "Big-Talk" Obama is, I could never vote for him. NEVER!

If Hillary Clinton wins the nomination by means of manipulating the super delegates, well then, my vote will go to Nader. I'm sick and tired of politicians that will go the extremes in order to win. In that case makes no difference: Republicans, democrats, men or woman, black or white.

The Pastor Wright Controversy is not going to go away in the minds of the voters. It is just too weird of a thing to have a President of the United States whose spiritual mentor and pastor of twenty years said such horrible things from the pulpit against the United States. The fact that Senator Obama sat in that pew with his children week after week without distancing himself until recently when it became a political liability is a huge problem for him come the general election.
Many moderate and conservative Democrats will switch to McCain if Senator Obama wins the nomination because of the Pastor Wright Controversy. And by the way, Joe Lieberman's endorsement of McCain will really help with that.

It's sad to watch the arguments between Obama/Clinton supporters become more and more myopic. Pick at the smallest thing and extrapolate it to the largest summation.
Neither is perfect, neither is a savior. They're both politicians, they both need to be questioned.
Obama is my choice as I appreciate his communication skills (the most important thing a president does in my mind is communicate/delegate with/to his/her staff and the people), his dispassionate, intellectual reasoning skills and his desire/ability to work with people from all sides of an argument.
I don't think Clinton supporters are all idiots or blind or fooling themselves just because they support her. I don't care for Clinton compared to Obama because of what I see as a great propensity to shade the "truth" in her favor, her voting for the war (there were 23 senators who voted nay) and her evasiveness about issues like her taxes and fundraising.
But would I vote for McCain or stay home if she got the nomination? To me that's a question that's silly to ask now. We're in the heat of a very heated debate. Deal with now.

Jermiah Wright does not hate America
Despite all the condemnation in the media for supposedly "anti-American" comments made by Obama's former pastor Jeremiah Wright, Orbis staffers could not find one single comment by Wright that warranted such a reaction. For this special edition of News Briefs (we've included a few of the usual sort on page 12), we would like to compare some of Rev. Wright's comments with those of right-wing religious leaders, including Rev. John Hagee (of whom McCain has said he is "proud to have [his] support"), Rev. Ron Parsley (whom McCain once said was his "spiritual guide"), and Rev. Pat Robertson (whom McCain previously denounced as an "agent of intolerance," but recently has been courting for an endorsement). You may conclude that Wright's sin was not in criticizing America, but rather, it was in not criticizing our country in the "Right" way.
Rev. Wright, on God's judgment (2003): "God damn America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people. God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme."
vs.
Rev. Hagee, on God's judgment (2006): "I believe that the Hurricane Katrina was, in fact, the judgment of God against the city of New Orleans."
Rev. Wright, on 9/11:
"We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye...Because the stuff we have done overseas has now brought right back into our own front yards. America's
chickens are coming home to roost."
vs.
Pat Robertson, on God's judgment and 9/11 (2006): The 9/11 attacks were "divine retribution against America" for tolerating "gays, feminists and the ACLU." Also, Ariel Sharon's stroke was "God's punishment for giving up Gaza."
Rev. Wright, on America: "In a democracy we need to learn how to disagree without breaking up our house and getting a divorce. We need to learn how to be unified in terms of nobody should go to bed hungry, nobody should die unnecessarily." Also: "Which country do you think poses the greatest threat to global peace: Iraq or the U.S.?"
vs.
Rev. Parsley, on America: "I do not believe our country can truly fulfill its divine purpose until we understand our historical conflict with Islam. I know that this statement sounds extreme, but I do not shrink from its implications. The fact is that America was founded, in part, with the intention of seeing this false religion destroyed."
Rev. Wright, in supposedly anti-semitic remarks: "We supported Zionism shamelessly while ignoring the Palestinians and branding anybody who spoke out against it as being anti-Semitic." Wright also said that Palestinians have faced "injustice" and "racism" for years because of Zionism.
vs.
Rev. Hagee, in remarks against the two-state solution for Israel and Palestine: "If America does not stop pressuring Israel to give up land, God will bring this nation into judgment...he will release the terrorists let in by our ridiculous immigration policy, and this nation will go through a bloodbath."

I agree with some of the posters here. The media and press have become an extension of the National Enquirer and other sleezebag publications. They all have forgotten the five "W's" when reporting the news.
Taking "soundbites" from videos and speeches to support their slanted stories is really sad.

BUT// Iraq is all Bush's bullheadness, and I was so hoping to vote for someone who would get us out.
Obama speaks pretty but I am afraid he is going to be more divisive than even Bush. It isn't just the Wright thing, but he also has unsavory advisors and supporters. Some of whom will probably be in jail before long.

Exactly. C'mon, guys. The candidates aren't even being given a fair chance to talk to the issues if the media keeps focusing on the distractions. One must always remember, that in terms of the entire population of the United States, 80% are classified as "white". So the actual numbers of "white" vote, will be much larger than the number of "black" vote, for the foreseable future.
That is to say the 45% of "whites" satisfied with Obama's explanation is a much larger actual number than the 67% of "blacks" satisfied with Obama's explanation.
121 million people voted in the 2004 presidential election. 77% were white voters, 93 million people. The black vote was 11%about 13 million.
Don't let the percentages confuse the issue, as they are not being calculated on the same numeric pool.

Notes from a Republican:
Don't worry too much if you lose Clinton voters. There are quite a few non-Democrates that are more than a little impressed with Obama.
Why would anyone want Obama as a President that has a vision of America working together. I think it is horrible that he invites us to dream what could be.
I think Slick Willy would make a great first-man? We need to vote experience and step back instead of moving forward. Clinton politics included empeachment. Let's go back there! I am not sure if he ever inhaled truth. Experience in twisting truth and exageration is what we need again in the Oval Office.
Well, I have to run; sniper fire!!!

To me, an independent voter and an American citizen, the most important thing is to elect a president that surely loves America. - Every human being has flaws and we have to have one of them to be our president... But, loving this country is a fundamental issue that must not be compromised on anything.
Obama and his family can have close relationship with a person that ranted "God Damn America" for more than 20 years. It really raised a question that how much he loves this country - at lease less than average Americans, I believe...
Then why bother to be fighting for president of America? Only to fullfill your ambition? Please, there are many other outstanding positions in the world that you don't have to love America to be qualified...

This 20 year Veteran deeply resents Senator Clinton's effort to claim combat experience, as a way to bolster her foreign policy standing.
Such an effort demeans and diminishes the sacrifice of thousands of servicemembers who do go into combat, and the families they leave behind. These servicemembers don't have the option of taking their only child to combat or a combat zone -- and what parent would?
Senator Clinton is trying to get "military" votes through fraud, that is why it's a big story.
(Of course it's another piece of evidence to show she's untrustworthy.)

"I have always doubted the validity of the polls. I still do, as far as I am concerned they are slanted for Obama and have been since the beginning."
Or maybe Obama polls better than the other candidates. The idea of polls isn't to give everybody an equal percentage so "everybody wins" while they eat their graham crackers and drink grape juice from a sippy-cup. It's to sell newspapers.
"We have been "W'ed" again; only this time my votes don't count because of my own party. Some centuries it stinks to be an American."
If you live in Michigan or Florida, your votes don't count because your own state legislators took the risk of violating the rules agreed on beforehand by the DNC, and were disqualified for moving the primary before the allowed range of dates. Far from "stinking to be an American" (just the kind of lousy, negative attitude that we DON'T need in this country right now, along with "if you don't vote for Hillary, I hope McCain wins" sour grapes), this is literally one of those times when you need to call or write to your state legislators and let them know your displeasure. Do you even know who your state representatives are, or what precinct or district you're in? I'd be willing to bet most people complaining so vehemently have no idea. Educate yourself, and aim your vitriol where it belongs.

My wife and I left our church four years ago because it became a parish of political activism, and forgot all about spirituality. We're Unitarian Universalists who are given to open and free discussions of all subjects, and we subscribe to no creed or dogma other than truth. However, week after week we were being verbally assaulted with all the "correct" political positions we should be embracing. God wasn't mentioned, forgiveness and forbearace, acceptance and redemption were discarded, and patriotism became a dirthy word. I looked around the rest of the pews and saw nothing but knee-jerk leftist ideologues. The issues weren't discussed, just labeled as politically correct, or not. The unofficial mantra, though unspoken was, "If it's left, it's right (correct). And, if it's right, it's wrong (i.e. not liberal)". I don't believe Obama anymore - he's simply a liar and poser. He should have walked-out of that congregation and away from Rev. Wright years ago. He's cost himself this election by his continued affinity to defend his mentor, Reverend "Wrong". Find a new church, Barack. Maybe you'll see me there too.

Obama a racist? Wow, now I'm convinced at how truly ignorant Americans really are. How about voting for the issues? Basing your opinion of a candidate on what his pastor said is just ludicrous. Let's dig up some of Hillary's mentors when she was an intern for known communists and let them speak on her behalf . Are we going to flip out and assume she is a communist, maybe by osmosis... maybe communism rubbed off on her. Wake up and smell the reality people. Regardless of who you are voting for, have an ounce of common sense and vote for the candidate who you think will unite and fix this country, not based on empty political rhetoric and dirty political games. That crap is child's play, and 99 percent of the reason Washington can't tie their own shoes.

I'd find the posts about Obama being a racist depressing if they weren't so obviously written by GOP trolls. Anyone who actually viewed the speech (that rules out GOP trolls, since it requires a 40-min attention span) realized they were watching something courageous and historic. Not just the content but the form: no sound bites; quoting Faulkner, a great American author few Americans have read. It may well screw his chances because he didn't throw Wright under a bus as any other candidate would have. On the other hand, it may be more important he made that speech than who is the next president. The truth, as many of these posts indicate, is in very short supply.

Other polls, equally "scientific" have far different results. Did you shop around to find the one most critical of Clinton?
And any poll now is worthless. The Obama attack team has chanted the "racist" word so many times that even ordinary people are afraid to admit a preference for Clinton or to specify 'white american cheese' in a deli, or ask to borrow the White Pages.
The Inpsirational, Uplifting speechifier has united the country all right: united them in a spasm of fear and the throes of racial enmity.
And the media have gone nuts. Since when is the retelling of a decades old trip (which is properly described in Senator Clinton's book) akin to evasive lies about crooked contributors, overreaching claims to legislature enacted, falsifying the resume, lying about knowing what Reverend Wright preaches, calling his own grandmother a racist in order to get more votes, and oh yeah -- "I will serve out my full six year term."

You folks are like a bunch of ignorant idots..I can see why Obama supporters often are, on average, more educated... WE GET IT!
Yes Rev. Wright gave 3 speeches a week for 30 years, and yet you're only heard as much as 30 seconds of one or two from the 5000 he delivered - could you REALLY be such "simpletons" as to think those snippets could comprise his life's work? If so, you SHOULD be voting for Hillary, cause you'll believe ANYTHING.
The Obama's tax returns are even a testament to their beliefs in their responsibility to support programs for those less fortunate than they...Question: "What does YOUR giving say about YOUR integrity and beliefs", and what exactly does Hillary believe? "If they don't say waht you want to hear cut them loose.", like she's theatening to do the DCC??

I love how Barry Obama now wants to provide a government guarantee against individual recklessness & stupidity.
Hey, take out a mortgage on a house - don't worry if you can't afford the payments, or are to stupid to realize that mortgage rates, locked in at 40 year year lows, might adjust upward, that home prices - at all time highs might go down - cause your new theocratic President - Barry Obama will guarantee that you don't lose your house.
It could be called the Barry Obama Stupid or liar home mortgage protection act.
I'll bet the 95% of Americans who bought their houses the old fashioned way (you know with some money down and without teaser rates and IO's) - and pay their mortgages every month - will love subsidizing the speculators and other dumb folks who got "liar loans" and just plain bought stupid.
What other stupidity might we be able to put the taxpayers on the hook for?

The presidential nomination is not merely a personality contest. It's about which candidate will push the issues that are closest to our hearts. I'd like to remind everyone that both Clinton and Obama take nearly identical sides on the issues, and will put the economy first.
Replace the candidates name with the issues they espouse and here's what you get: economy/healthcare vs. economy/healthcare vs warmonger. Who will you choose?

Clinton should reconcile with Obama.Stop fighting. Tthey should agree to run together , Clinton being the VP not Obama as VP. Don't Shrug, but that is what she could claim best at this time. Obama came as a Sun , unexpected but, whose rays are strong and is warming up the nation. Moons have to give way to the Sun. That is the need of the hour

There is going to be another choice come Nov. There is a large group, just awaiting the out come of the Democrates elections and if Hillary doesn't win , there is a plan to draft her as a third party ticket. If she refuses to go third party a massive write in will be called for. Wowwwwwwwwwww that be great, we could finally get a new middle of the road party. Let the Far Right and Far Left set and stew on that for awhile.

Students told news reporters that Hillary's campaign staff gave pre-printed questions to ask Hillary during the q/a session, and the unsuspecting students fell for it. I am not making this up.
Now Hillary sniper-fire Clinton might be trying to change the subject from her Bosnia lies. She is trying to get the sympathy votes.

DON'T BE DUPED !!!
Large numbers of Republicans have been voting for Barack Obama in the DEMOCRATIC primaries, and caucuses from early on. Because they feel he would be a weaker opponent against John McCain. And because they feel that a Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama ticket would be unbeatable. And also because with a Clinton and Obama ticket you are almost 100% certain to get quality, affordable universal health care very soon.
But first, all of you have to make certain that Hillary Clinton takes the democratic nomination and then the Whitehouse. NOW! is the time. THIS! is the moment you have all been working, and waiting for. You can do this America. “Carpe diem” (harvest the day).
I think Hillary Clinton see’s a beautiful world of plenty for all. She is a woman, and a mother. And it’s time America. Do this for your-self, and your children’s future. You will have to work together on this and be aggressive, relentless, and creative. Americans face an even worse catastrophe ahead than the one you are living through now.
Hillary Clinton has actually won by much larger margins than the vote totals showed. And lost by much smaller vote margins than the vote totals showed. Her delegate count is actually much higher than it shows. And higher than Obama’s. She also leads in the electoral college numbers that you must win to become President in the November national election. HILLARY CLINTON IS ALREADY THE TRUE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE!
As much as 30% of Obama's primary, and caucus votes are Republicans trying to choose the weakest democratic candidate for McCain to run against. These Republicans have been gaming the caucuses where it is easier to vote cheat. This is why Obama has not been able to win the BIG! states primaries. Even with Republican vote cheating help.
Hillary Clinton has been out manned, out gunned, and out spent 2 and 3 to 1. Yet Obama has only been able to manage a very tenuous, and questionable tie with Hillary Clinton.
If Obama is the democratic nominee for the national election in November he will be slaughtered. Because the Republican vote cheating help will suddenly evaporate. All of this vote fraud and republican manipulation has made Obama falsely look like a much stronger candidate than he really is. YOUNG PEOPLE. DON’T BE DUPED! Think about it. You have the most to lose.
The democratic party needs to fix this outrage. I suggest a Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama ticket. Everyone needs to throw all your support to Hillary Clinton NOW! So you can end this outrage against YOU the voter, and against democracy.
I think Barack Obama has a once in a life time chance to make the ultimate historic gesture for unity, and change in America by accepting Hillary Clinton’s offer as running mate. Such an act now would for ever seal Barack Obama’s place at the top of the list of Americas all time great leaders, and unifiers for all of history.
The democratic party, and the super-delegates have a decision to make. Are the democrats, and the democratic party going to choose the DEMOCRATIC party nominee to fight for the American people. Or are the republicans going to choose the DEMOCRATIC party nominee through vote fraud, and gaming the DEMOCRATIC party primaries, and caucuses.
Fortunately the Clinton’s have been able to hold on against this fraudulent outrage with those repeated dramatic comebacks of Hillary Clinton’s. Only the Clinton’s are that resourceful, and strong. Hillary Clinton is your NOMINEE. They are the best I have ever seen.
Sincerely
jacksmith...

My mother grew up in the Jim Crow south (Texas) and endured numerous forms of discrimination throughout her life. For example, considerable amounts of oil were pumped from her family’s rural property (purchased through the hard work of share-cropping) without compensation; after moving to town, she was forced to receive an inadequate education at a distant Colored school, though the “Whites Only” school was literally across the street from her house; she remembers driving exhausted on the way to California, passing motel after motel with “No Coloreds” signs; in the 1970s, in California, our family was denied the opportunity to purchase a home in a fashionable neighborhood that was off limits to Blacks due to “red-lining”. The list continues. My mother has chosen to move beyond all these injustices and not be angry. But she has every right to be. As a direct victim of American state sponsored racism and discrimination, do Americans really require her and others of her generation to snap to attention and start singing “God Bless America” whenever matters of race arise? I sincerely hope not. My mother and those of her generation, and anyone else who has suffered at the hands of a government simply because of their race, gender, religion, etc., are entitled to their anger. Those who follow (like myself), who have suffered less understand their anger, but have less right to be angry ourselves. This is the hope for progress of which Barack Obama speaks.
Hillary Clinton took the easy road (and the low road) of rejecting Rev. Wright’s anger and playing along with the public’s confusing of his anger with racism. But (regardless of her gender) what would she know about discrimination? Perhaps this is why Barack Obama stayed and she would have left.

OBAMA IS THE RACIST and I FEAR HIS TRUE AGENDA!!!!!
The American Media is a DISGRACE for not only NOT UNCOVERING THIS ---but for TRYING TO BURY IT.

If Hillary or McCain attended a Church for 20 years with a Pastor who used the word "nigger" JUST ONCE --they would both be run out of town --BUT OBAMA GETS A FAIR PASS? ON TOP OF ALL THE OTHER HATRED BIGOTED ANTI-WHITE AND ANTI-JEW --and PRO-MUSLIM Preachings by his 20 year PASTOR?

I think people's indignation over Rev. Wright's inflammatory remarks and the notion that Barack Obama is somehow personally responsible for every single word the Reverend ever uttered over the course of 20 years, is a clever, if devious, way of trying to turn the tables and put the charge of racism back on a black candidate to mask their own racist views.
Yes, Wright was wrong (no pun intended), but the self-righteous tone of those who keep harping on it strongly suggests that Clinton and her camp are desperately looking for a way to denigrate her opponent based on his skin color. The fact that Hillary Clinton has played the race card is about the most damning expression of her character and her desperation to win the nomination, however slim the odds (impossible actually), that she has exhibited -- far worse than her habit of making up stories to glorify her "experience". It is appalling, in fact, that she has sunk so low in her attempt to win the nomination, that she will play to people's racial bias. Shame on you, Hillary.

wow, there are so many negative comments and some are actually pretty hateful. Blacks vs whites in 2008 I would hope to think that racism would be a thing in our past, but obviously I am very wrong.
Obama is NOT a racist and neither is Clinton and I really wish that people would stop this B.S. and concentrate a little bit more on why we are in the mess that we are in. Mr. Obama is not my candidate of choice. Not because he is black. I actually like him, BUT I am concerned about experience and he just doesn't have it yet. Say what you will about Clinton......she is seasoned and I would rather her pick up the phone at 3:00am and make a decision than Mr. Obama. I believe she can make a decsion that concerns the world. I don't think he is quite ready yet. I am also still concerned about Rev. Wright's words. You can't tell me that thousands of sermons and this man has only been this outrageous a few times. I don't buy it. I also don't buy that Mr. Obama never heard these types of sermons. This from a man who was mentored by Rev Wright? It scares me a bit to think that Mr. Wright is Obama's mentor. This man has problem with whites, jews and the US in general. He is not preaching "good will" he is preaching hate and I believe that to be very wrong. We have enough hate mongers in the world as it is, we need to be sharing good not evil. I grew up in the era of black vs whites and never really knew about such things until I moved to the south when I was a child. People TEACH people and their children to hate. Children just don't learn it from osmosis. It's time to start preaching "good will towards others" let's practice what we should be preaching and stop this madness.

We have heard, repeatedly, 3 derisive, incendiary excerpts from about 30 years of sermons by reverend Wright. I hope I’m never judged by tiny snippets of things that I may have heard from a friend, relative, teacher, politician, or religious extremist in my lifetime. The truth is, I know that I’ve heard Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson say things that were equally foolish.
Barack Obama is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School. That required brilliance, solutions, and action. He was the President of the Harvard Law Review, perhaps the most prestigious legal publication of its kind in the United States. That took the respect and confidence of many distinguished officials at Harvard – as well as the characteristics it took Obama to earn his extremely high academic honors.
I’m so “white and American” that two of the 114 passengers on the Mayflower are ascendants of mine, and I’m, enthusiastically, supporting Barack Obama as our next president.

Isn't it unremarkable how criticism of the right wing Zionist agenda draws immediate accusations of anti-Semitism IN CAPITAL LETTERS!!???? Predictable tripe. This America that is thoughtlessly knee jerk (as instructed by Faux News et al) really is damned, if only by a closed-ended apocalyptic eschatological worldview. Why not understand our shared impulse to damn a sin (or can your deficiant attention only take in three words at a time)?DEATH BEFORE DISCUSSION!!!
Also, if it is necessary to cut off any person that utters disagreeable political statements (no matter how many mitigating utterances of loving kindness), then all of us will ultimately be cut off from one another. If you listened to Obama’s address, you would have heard a Christian professing forgiveness for their brother who speaks from a darker experience. I hate to play the evangelist, but Christians in this country really ought to practice forgiveness and engage in dialog instead of diatribes. So should other thoughtful humans.

Obama, unfortunatley, has been shown to be the kind of politician that he supposedly despises.
Lies about Rezkp, about Wright, about running a different kind of campaign have betrayed over and over again the persona he has attempted to present to the voters.
If he had faced h is inexperience, his weaknesses, his God, he would not have entered the campaign and destroyed the Democratic party's chance of victory in Novermber.
His campaign has taken every opportunity to play the race card and sling mud. Obama has betrayed not onlly the voters, but himself and his children.
It's not surprising, therefore, that his closest friends and mentors for twenty years, Rezko and Wright, were men who dishonor this country.
He has no chance of winning the national election and shames himself by destroying what would have been possible if he didn't have the audacity to believe he could fool the voters.

Remember "Ocean's 11" the movie? Well, if OBAMA manages to pull this off, the American people will have been a victim of Obama's scam!
There is no separation of Church & State with a candidate such as Obama... After 20 years in the Trinity United Church, and 17 or so years of mentoring from Rev. Wright, does anyone have a question as to what OBAMA'S MORAL COMPASS really is?

Don't be too surpised Fred. People love a sideshow and repeating the sensationalized talking points of the media to make it seem like they're making an informed observation. I'm for Obama. Hillary's positions in Congress from the war to sponsoring crap flag-burning banning amendments, and how dirty she has fought during this whole campaign has turned me off of her. As for McCain, I can't stand for someone who will further put our troops in harms way and further endanger our standing in the world.
The only real negative I've seen for Obama is that I can't say for sure what he'll be like in office. But given the alternatives, I'm willing to make the leap and take a chance. He's inspiring. Lincoln had less experience than Obama and has been considered to be one of our greatest presidents.
So why are there still the screechers and howlers out there that talk about his forked tongue and accuse him of being a racist and anti-american? Because these are the same people who voted George Bush into office for 2 terms. The people who easily forgive a stupid president who can't make a speech without absolutely butchering the english language and making dozens of factual errors, yet they will harp on 3 words of Barack Obama's, "typical white person", used within the context of an enlightened statement and hang on the words of his preacher spoken in the context of a greater message on days he wasn't even in attendance. Why? Because they're suspiscious of a president who seems smarter than they are.
It's like Terry Pratchett said, "People on the side of The People always ended up disappointed, in any case. They found that The People tended not to be grateful or appreciative or forward-thinking or obedient. The People tended to be small-minded and conservative and not very clever and were even distrustful of cleverness."
That's what Obama has to worry about, overestimating the intelligence of the voters. These people are looking for a sideshow to justify their inability to find issue with his position and general message for the people. Obama may have confidence in the American people to focus on the issues, but I'm not sure I share his confidence. Hopefully he'll prove me wrong.

Here is something Very interesting! Read on:
There's a reason Hillary Clinton has remained relatively silent during the flap over intemperate remarks by Barack Obama's former pastor, Jeremiah Wright. When it comes to unsavory religious affiliations, she's a lot more vulnerable than Obama.
You can find all about it in a widely under-read article in the September 2007 issue of Mother Jones, in which Kathryn Joyce and Jeff Sharlet reported that "through all of her years in Washington, Clinton has been an active participant in conservative Bible study and prayer circles that are part of a secretive Capitol Hill group known as "The "Fellowship," also known as The Family. But it won't be a secret much longer. Jeff Sharlet's shocking expos The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power will be published in May.
Sean Hannity has called Obama's church a "cult," but that term applies far more aptly to Clinton's "Family," which is organized into "cells" - their term - and operates sex-segregated group homes for young people in northern Virginia. In 2002, Sharlet joined The Family's home for young men, forswearing sex, drugs and alcohol, and participating in endless discussions of Jesus and power. He wasn't undercover; he used his own name and admitted to being a writer. But he wasn't completely out of danger either. When he went outdoors one night to make a cell phone call, he was followed. He still gets calls from Family associates asking him to meet them in diners - alone.
The Family's most visible activity is its blandly innocuous National Prayer Breakfast, held every February in Washington. But almost all its real work goes on behind the scenes - knitting together international networks of right-wing leaders, most of them ostensibly Christian. In the 1940s, The Family reached out to former and not-so-former Nazis, and its fascination with that exemplary leader, Adolf Hitler, has continued, along with ties to a whole bestiary of murderous thugs. As Sharlet reported in Harper's in 2003:
During the 1960s the Family forged relationships between the U.S. government and some of the most anti-Communist (and dictatorial) elements within Africa's postcolonial leadership. The Brazilian dict ator General Costa e Silva, with Family support, was overseeing regular fellowship groups for Latin American leaders, while, in Indonesia, General Suharto (whose tally of several hundred thousand "Communists" killed marks him as one of the century's most murderous dictators) was presiding over a group of fifty Indonesian legislators. During the Reagan Administration the Family helped build friendships between the U.S. government and men such as Salvadoran general Carlos Eugenios Vides Casanova, convicted by a Florida jury of the torture of thousands, and Honduran general Gustavo Alvarez Martinez, himself an evangelical minister, who was linked to both the CIA and death sq uads before his own demise.
At the heart of The Family's American branch is a collection of powerful right-wing politicos, who include, or have included, Sam Brownback, Ed Meese, John Ashcroft, James Inhofe and Rick Santorum. They get to use The Family's spacious estate on the Potomac, The Cedars, which is maintained by young men in Family group homes and where meals are served by The Family's young women's group. And, at The Family's frequent prayer gatherings, they get powerful jolts of spiritual refreshment, tailored to the already powerful.
Clinton fell in with The Family in 1993, w hen she joined a Bible study group composed of wives of conservative leaders like Jack Kemp and James Baker. When she ascended to the Senate, she was promoted to what Sharlet calls the Family's "most elite cell," the weekly Senate Prayer Breakfast, which included, until his downfall, Virginia's notoriously racist Senator George Allen. This has not been a casual connection for Clinton. She has written of Doug Coe, The Family's publicity-averse leader, that he is "a unique presence in Washington: a genuinely loving spiritual mentor and guide to anyone, regardless of party or faith, who wants to deepen his or her relationship with God."
Furthermore, The Family takes credit for some of Clinton's rightward legislative tendencies, including her support for a law guaranteeing "religious freedom" in the workplace, such as for pharmacists who refuse to fill birth control prescriptions and police officers who refuse to guard abortion clinics.
What drew Clinton into the sinister heart of the international right? Maybe it was just a phase in her tormented search for identity, marked by ever-changing hairstyles and names: Hillary Rodham, Mrs. Bill Clinton, Hillary Rodham Clinton and now Hillary Clinton. She reached out to many potential spiritual mentors during her White House days, including New Age guru Marianne Williamson and the liberal rabbi Michael Lern er. But it was the Family association that stuck.
