by John McCormick
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Sen. Barack Obama, who found something in common today with Sens. Hillary Clinton and John McCain -- their passport files had all been breached at the State Department -- spoke out today about abuses demanding an investigation.
"It is deeply disturbing, what's happened,'' Obama said. "I talked to Condoleezza Rice this morning. She called me and offered her apologies, which I appreciated.
"But I also indicated that this is something that has to be investigated diligently and openly,'' the Illinois senator said. "One of the things that the American people count on in their interactions with any level of government is that if they have to disclose personal information that is going to stay personal and stay private.
"And when you have not just one, but a series of attempts to tap into people's personal records, that's a problem, not just for me, but for how our government is functioning,'' he said.
"And so I expect a full and thorough investigation. I think that it should be done in conjunction with those congressional committees that have oversight, so that it is not simply an internal matter. I think we need to get to the bottom of this. Again, not because have any particular concerns. I'm assuming that whatever information anybody obtained is already information that is available in available in other ways."

Comments
I'm sure the State Dept. can credibly investigate itself. Hey, it worked when a Congressional Ethics investigation found that John McCain, John McCain was not guilty of an wrongdoing when he helped financially ruin many average Americans during the Keating Five SCANDAL, Keating Five SCANDAL, Keating Five SCANDAL, John McCain....John McCain.

Let's compare the time the mainstream media has spent covering all of the crimes of the Bush Administration, including this one, and the time it has spent on a few things a pastor said.

What is Senator Obama so afraid of the American voter learning from the record of his trips abroad? Wouldn't it be better for the Senator to be as open and transparent as Senator Clinton has been in releasing all her travel schedules for the last 20 years?
After all Senator Obama wants more transparency in government. He could start here.

It is illegal for these people to access these records. But I guess that doesn't matter to anyone that thinks leaking CIA agents names to the press, torturing people, creating a unicameral governement, wiretapping American citizens, and illegally invading foreign countries based on lies is par for the course.

Don't be ignorant Srepen, BO denounced Wright's comments. You are doing your candidate disservice by now stating they are not hateful.

As a typical white person, I think whoever did this should be thrown under the bus. And I bet Obama's grandmother had something to do with this. And I mean that...at least until tomorrow, when I will tell you what I really mean because I'm kinda tired right now.

On one side-safety wise, I'd like to know that no one was compromising the security of individuals.
On the other side, it looks like a tall order considering that you don't have any personal concerns, and think it's probably information already available.
Should be interesting.

Vinny,
A majority of American Presidents have been racist and anti-Semitic. It was the winning combination for over a century in America.
Trying to spin Obama as a racist is absurd on the face of it.

Wow, I don't get it, ID theft has been going on for years and the Government wont do anything about it.
I guess you have to be a Senator running for the Presidency to get any sort of action against this misuse of personal identity.
I find what these Politicians are saying, hypercritical and repugnant.
If anything, they should be saying, "I finally get it, and any form of ID theft should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law, and I will personally see to it".
Yeah, in my dreams. These Politicians are all the same and full of BS until it gets to them. Just re-read the article above.

If you believe the headlines, poor Obama is getting victimized again probably by Clinton/MCain. I sure there's no media bias in that all 3 had their files broken into but most media chose to lead with Obama as the victim. I'm also sure that it's not bias if they only get quotes from Obama as to his reaction. Is the media ever going to do their job and be non-partisan in their reporting? Nah, it's no fun that way

Isn't the subject here that 'curious' employees have access to ANYONE's passports? And perhaps information to create fake identifications for 'bad' people? Good idea to have an objective outside peek into this, yes?
The nominees arent' the topic. Get over yourselves and stick with the program.

What's that old saying- "Be careful what you wish for. You just might get it." Apparently, one of the gentlemen who did the electronic spying, works for a company whose Chief Executive Officer John O. Brennan (a former CIA agent) is an adviser to Mr. Obama’s presidential campaign. I guess tomorrow we're gonna learn Obama didn't really mean he wanted a full investigation and - his grandmother did it!

con man Barack Obama and his overbearing arrogance and endless whining and all
his whining as well. So did
Barack Hussein Obama learn
his racism from his phony

Poor Bill bottom fishing aren't we now! Et to Brutus! Did you do your homework Bill or just put your name up for the highest bidder ? What do you as an endorser think about Obama the race card player, or did you get HOODWINKED AND BAMBOOZLED LIKE THE OTHER SOUTH CAROLINA FOLKS! They were hoodwinked just like MALCOLM X said they were in Harlem. Maybe you were BAMBOOZLED with the efficiencies of his chairmanship on the sub committee on foreign affairs. You know the committee with NO HEARINGS! Perhaps it was the tight connection with the accountants that keep finding REZKO MONEY in his pockets. I got it , it was that extensive foreign affairs experience he has. Remember the experience you mentioned in the debates you had. ??? What could it have been that convinced you that OBAMA should be put in charge of the most powerful nation in the world?? Once again you must have seen something! What was it BILL? What was it that swayed your vote? How about SELF INTEREST! HOW ABOUT SELF IMPORTANCE!

That's right Sandy! You tell them! Who is Barack Obama, the elected Senator representing the state of Illinois, anyway? What right does he or anyone else in this country have to demand that government employees like the staff in the State Department do their actual jobs? Can he be so arrogant that he believes the US Constitution and US laws passed by Congress apply to any member of the Bush Administration executive branch? It's hard to believe that our next president is so naive about his unlimited power.

Yeah, but in this case it's the GOVERNMENT who is the perp. If you think this is OK, then this country is no longer.
Sandy5274,
I so want to believe that your post is satire, but, since I couldn't find anything remotely funny, I realize this is who you are...and it's pretty ugly. I'm sorry for you.

Someone has looked at all the passports. It was wrong. How many millions of dollars should be spent on this?
Posted by: mzmarlena | March 22, 2008 10:39 AM
Do I think this passport breach is OK, NO.
Do I think ID theft is OK, NO.
These Politicians (any of them) open their mouths and out it flows.
We need to crack down on this.
We need to crack down on that.
I'm saying this breach is wrong, ID theft is wrong and anyone who does this should be jailed.
Anyone stealing someone else's ID should be jailed.
I'm all for an "investigation", but lets get real, open it up to all theft, breaches. I kinda have this nagging feeling there are Laws now that are supposed to take care of ID theft.
The problem, enforcing them. Unless of course your a Senator (any Senator) running for the Presidency. And you feel violated. I guess that's what the common man feels.
Who do I feel sorry for, anyone who has had this happen to them. How many articles have been written about ID theft.

One of the three accused contractors works for a company where the CEO is a consultant to the Obama campaign. He also improperly accessed McCain's file.
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/03/22/passport.files/index.html
Is Obama sure he wants this further investigated?
