The Swamp

Everything has to break Hillary Clinton’s way to win the Democratic nomination. That’s why video footage of her 1996 trip to Bosnia, which exposed her campaign-trail accounts of the event as flatly untrue, could hardly have come at a worse time.

The flap may even have the effect of shortening the Democratic presidential contest. Clinton aides, and her husband, have raised the prospect of a race that goes all the way to the convention in Denver, the week before Labor Day.

Neutral party strategists expect a much swifter conclusion, which the Bosnia episode—by raising doubts about her foreign policy experience--could help bring about.

This week, Clinton belatedly admitted that she "misspoke" in claiming that, as first lady, she had landed "under sniper fire" at the Tuzla airport and ran "with our heads down" to waiting vehicles on that 1996 trip. She backtracked after CBS News video surfaced, telling a very different story from the one Clinton had offered repeatedly over the past few months.

The arc of the latest controversy mimics the uproar over incendiary remarks by Obama’s pastor: a simmering issue that exploded once video evidence emerged. Obama appears, at least for now, to have weathered the storm about his pastor’s racially charged views, which marred Obama’s attempt to be a candidate who transcends race.

Now it’s Clinton’s turn to keep a problem from spinning out of control. The real story of her Bosnia visits goes to the core of her argument to Democratic voters, that her experience as first lady makes her better suited than Obama to be commander-in-chief "on day one."

Worse, it raises doubts about her trustworthiness, reinforcing one of her biggest vulnerabilities as a candidate: that her White House run is mainly a quest for political power and that she’s surrounded, as New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson put it the other day, with people who "think they have a sense of entitlement to the presidency."

Trailing in the delegate count, with far less money to spend than Obama, and running no better than even in the national polls, Clinton can ill-afford any slips. She has to demonstrate conclusively to the superdelegates who will decide the nomination that they should reverse the outcome of the primaries and caucuses, which favor Obama. It’s a high-risk strategy that risks alienating many of those she would need to defeat John McCain, including African-Americans and younger voters energized by Obama’s candidacy.

To remain a credible contender, she needs to win Pennsylvania, preferably by a substantial margin (anything less than the 10-point spread of her Ohio victory could well be seen as a setback) and then surprise him in several of the May primaries, including North Carolina, the last big state to vote.

Former President Bill Clinton has said that his wife needs to run up the score in the remaining primaries to convince superdelegates that she would be the stronger candidate against McCain and deserves their vote.

At the very least, the Bosnia story is a distraction from her attempt to rally Pennsylvania Democrats. It follows the recent collapse of her efforts to force re-dos of contest in Michigan and Florida, a blow to Clinton’s hopes of generating momentum in the final weeks of the primary season.

Given her tenacity, and her success in keeping the race going when she faced elimination in earlier primaries, some Democrats are convinced that Clinton won’t quit before the party meets in Denver, five months from now.

But that seems increasingly unlikely. A better question is whether the contest will effectively end in May or go until the primary season is over in early June.

Tad Devine, a party strategist with vast experience as a delegate counter, thinks that by June, a decisive number of superdelegates will get behind Obama, barring "an incredible run" by Clinton in the remaining states.

Since early February, at least 65 superdelegates have endorsed Obama, compared with no more than five for Clinton, giving him a victory in what Devine calls the second wave of superdelegate moves. Many of those backing Obama are fellow senators, congressmen and governors, including former Clinton allies like Richardson and Georgia Rep. John Lewis. Clinton won the first superdelegate wave, before the primaries began, in part because of longtime loyalties to herself and the former president from party activists.

The last, and potentially decisive, superdelegate moves usually come at the end of the primary season.

"My gut says there’s gonna be a third wave and Obama’s gonna win it," said Devine.

Already, leading Democrats, concerned about how the increasingly nasty primary fight is damaging the eventual nominee, have started talking about ways to bring the race to a close. Their efforts, at least for now, are largely designed to pressure Clinton not to prolong her campaign.

Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen has threatened to convene a superdelegate meeting, though such an event seems unlikely to occur. Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid said this week that he’s spoken with party chairman Howard Dean and that "things are being done" to wrap up the contest before the convention.

The Clinton camp, meantime, has tossed out a seemingly endless array of ideas to buy time and keep superdelegates from swinging behind Obama, in hopes that he will self-destruct or that popular support for his candidacy will collapse.

Bill Clinton has indicated that his wife needs to win the total popular vote to balance Obama’s edge in delegates earned in the primaries and caucuses—a remote possibility without revotes in Michigan and Florida.

Her chief strategist, Mark Penn, has suggested that what really matters is delegates won in primaries (where Clinton currently trails but could move ahead after Pennsylvania). The caucuses, where Obama has prevailed, are "undemocratic," argued another major Clinton backer, Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, a national party chairman under Bill Clinton.

Over the weekend, Sen. Evan Bayh of Indiana, a Clinton backer angling for a spot on the ticket with her, said the key is which candidate wins states with the most electoral votes (that would be Clinton)—a confection which insiders hooted at, since the states in the Clinton count include some, like Texas and Oklahoma, that Democrats haven’t a prayer of carrying in November.

Clinton herself pointed out this week that party rules allow all convention delegates, including those who won their seats in primaries and caucuses, to pick any candidate they want. That suggests she’s inclined to twist hundreds of arms if the delegate count gets close enough, though campaign spokesmen insist there’s no effort under way to woo switchers (and the odds of a significant number of defections is extremely remote).

In order to freeze the superdelegates over the final months of the primary season, she’ll have to cut Obama’s delegate lead (currently about 130) to fewer than 100 and narrow his popular vote advantage (about 700,000) to a tiny fraction of that, say Devine and others.

That seemed possible, as recently as last week, with Obama under fire over his pastor’s remarks and Gallup’s tracking poll showing Clinton leaping to a seven-point national lead. On the day those numbers came out, her husband was recycling, with evident delight, his line about watching "many experts dance on Hillary’s grave, repeatedly," and how she’s confounded them every time.

Now, Obama has bounced back and the band is striking up again, as a small but growing number of analysts and columnists conclude that she no longer has a realistic shot at the nomination. With no primaries or caucuses to change the subject and a TV debate, six days before Pennsylvanians vote (where questions about her experience are sure to get aired), suddenly finding herself on the defensive is the last place Clinton wants to be.

The current political climate in America, and for that matter, the political process in general is inherently vile. Generally there is more bickering and posturing than anything else! I also find distasteful that the ugly specters of race and gender have been inserted into this race. I believe that this is a test for America. Are we ready to move into a new future, to embrace change and attempt to forge a brighter future with our international counterparts? Or do we resort to the negativity and hate, and rhetoric of the past, emphasized with the barrel of a rifle? God bless America.

I'd say only in the Swamp's running hand-in-hand with Obama to the nomination dreams.

While what Hillary said was stupid and makes her look the same way, it's nothing compared to the hate speech that Obama continues to refuse to disavow.

Also, at the very least Hillary can rest assured that she didn't throw her own grandmother under the bus to try and make her scandal go away.

Totally ridiculous prediction!! OB has more problems than that!

Go Hillary!

Recovering from her sleep deprived, misspoken, rememberance of the trip to Bosnia, she mentioned that she was still the first, First Lady to visit a war zone. Hmmmm. I don't believe Hillary was the first First Lady to visit a war zone, another 'mis speak' on her part.
I think it was First Lady Pat Nixon who visited Viet Nam in 1969 with her husband, Richard.

Clinton is unfit to be president. Imagine if she succeeded in her health care bill in the 90s..then imagine that it wound up costing 20 or 30 times what she projected. Lets add that the result was so catastrophic that 4000 people died early deaths as a result. If that were the case we would conclude there is no way she could be president. Well, her only major foriegn policy decision had those exact, catastrphic results. She didnt ask if we would find Osama in Iraq, she didnt ask if invading Iraq would thwart future attacks, she didnt ask if we had an exit strategy. She voted for the war..anyone with judgement that bad does not deserve to be president of the United States of America.

Reportedly, Hillary "misspoke" more than once about her Bosnia trip. If true, then it was more than a slip of the tongue, it was an outright LIE to the American public. What else has she "misspoke" about in her quest for the presidency? Time will tell........

I think it will go all the way to the convention. You have one, defending an "uncle" of 20 years of hatred to America and whites and you have the other, blatantly lying about her abilities as commander-in-chief. These are two blunders that are not going to go away anytime soon, but will provide fodder to seek further scrutiny.

Go John!

Hillary's lies are troubling to me and should be for every Democrat. I used to support her, but now I just can't.

WHAT? The Bosnia story is NOTHING compared to Obama's PROBLEM with Wright. The Wright issue will not go away, and Obama's speech only quelled his base (i.e. media) and not the voters... In fact, that speech even raised more issues about Obama.

I personally thinks that Obama hates older white women... Hillary, her demographic support, Ferraro, his grandma. So why does Obama throw grandma off the train and then vacations elsewhere than Hawaii where she lives. I understand she is also in poor health. Obama's behavior toward his grandma is disgusting.

Obama abandoned his "white" heritage and grandma to immerse himself in his "black" heritage and give his loyalty to "uncle" Wright. Yet, Obama did not want to be seen as a "black" candidate. Now I am really questioning Obama's "judgement" and maybe his sanity.

The Clintonistas have gone too far. They are damaging the future of the Nation. It is time to call out loudly for the withdrawl of Mrs. Clinton. Hope we can start here.

Jeff, I can't begin to tell you how wrong you are about this Wright nonsense. Maybe in your part of the country, your preacher speaks for you. In many parts, they do not. Fact of the matter is that the truth about America is somewhere between where ultra-conservatives think it is, and where Rev. Wright thinks it is. As a white man, I'm ashamed that my fellow whites can't wake up when it comes to race.

Didn't HRC lie about Bosnia in her book too? Gee, with all the fire HRC is taking, for wrongly claiming to have been under sniper fire, I don't suppose that "Monica Question" to Chelsea could have come at a better time.

Why are people so eager to vote an inexperienced minority into office? They refuse to look into his past, ignore suggestions and hints of wrongdoing, and even disbelieve that he associates with his Reverend's and wife's own words.
This country has spun out of control and I see no hope for it - other than McCain.

This article is right on.
I suspect Hillary will end her run after Obama wins in NC.
She cannot overtake him once that contest is over.
Obama will will OR as well, sealing the deal before June.
Sorry Hill Fans, its over.

Um, Bette, I believe that Eleanor Roosevelt did that before Pat Nixon.

Jeffy:

What about the hate speech from Hagee and Parsley?? Has McCain disavowed their endorsements?? Especially from Hagee, who McCain sought the endorsement of??
Plus, how much of Wright's speeches were taken out of context?

And wasn't it those great REPUBLICAN religious leaders Pat Robertson and Jerry Fawell who blamed 9/11 on American homosexuals?? You know, Falwell. The guy that McCain went grovelling to for HIS endorsement.

Isn't it time for Clinton to put down her ego to pick up America ? What's wrong with her thinking ? Hillary's helpless cause is just divisive and pathetic.

Jeff, how, just how ex-ac-tly did he "throw his grandmother under the bus"? I think you didn't read or listen to his speech. Whaat he said was that his grandmother, one of the greatest people in the world to him and who loved him, a little black boy, more than anything in the world, still had her own private discriminations against blacks- which taught him from childhood that the issue is deep and complex. He wants us too to understand how deep and complex it is, and not be afraid to discuss it openly and maturely, so that we can progress. It seems you can't do that. Worse, you forgive Hillary herself's many flat out lies and harp instead about what someone else, not Obama himself, said. Get real.

Clinton in Bosnia:
Hillary was actually bending over to treat the little girl for a shrapnel wound behind the shoulder. In the next photograph she is seen to roll out of that crouched position and navigate through mortar fire impacts - she circled around back of a Serbian position to take out a machine gun nest. Later she cooked everyone in camp a home-made turkey stew (her aunts recipe) - she stirred it with her rifle butt and served it into the helmets of those starving beside her. - She really is an amazing spouse of a former President. -

Hillary's race-baiting tactics will fool only the portion of the population that would vote for her regardless of her opponent. They are blind to her incessant lies and her politics of personal destruction.

It’s amazing what happens when you hear the pastor’s quotes in the context they were delivered. See the posters comments below CNN’s Roland Martin articles:

http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/2008/03/21/the-full-story-behind-rev-jeremiah-wrights-911-sermon/

http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/2008/03/21/the-full-story-behind-wright%e2%80%99s-%e2%80%9cgod-damn-america%e2%80%9d-sermon/?s-%20?god-damn-america%20?-sermon/

I can’t say I subscribe to everything the pastor has said but I can say that it makes a heck of a difference when you hear them within the sermon.

This is a largely smear campaign. If they can’t nail the candidate, then they have to go after someone close to them to try to make the candidate look bad. Eventually, this story is going to come out.

Let's join together to move this country forward, and not backward into the divisive and hateful politics of the Bush/Clinton past.

Hillary, ready on day one, Clinton really stepped in a big pile of doo doo this time. She reaffirmed what most rational people have already known about her and her twin Big Bill, that her mouth is her best friend and own worst enemy. The very idea that this woman is telling mature adults that she did a belly flop on the tarmac and crawled, like a marine, for cover with a hail of bullets over her head, was almost believable. She had everybody saying "you go girl, you're bad as you wanna be." Just as bad she tells mature, rational adults that she made a mistake. That she misspoke because she was a jet lagged. In the words of her twin, William Jefferson "gimme a (fornicating) break, this whole pile of bull dooky is one great big fairy tale."

Part of her experience as first lady she does not tout, but was self evident, is the fact that she was as good as Big Bill at cleaning up doo doo.

It is a stunning and lifechanging moment when you first realize that a sniper is actually shooting at you -- not merely at a crowd of people. Mine came in Vietnam. Since then, I have felt a deep camaraderie with those who have heard the whistling of bullets passing nearby --or felt them impact within. I have likewise felt a deep distain for those who, for personal gain, claimed to have the experience when they did not.

Considering the list of Clinton lies and the fact she is trailing so badly with the popular vote and delegates... and considering that Clinton is doing the Republican Attack Machine's job for it... I strongly suspect that we'll be seeing Clinton forced out of the race sooner rather than later.

Stick a fork in her, her goose is done.

Rob H.

LOL! You people kill me. You think because Hillary said it was a mistake then that is what it was. We here in reality call it a LIE! It's ok though Hillary supporters are just a bunch of media eating drones.

ENOUGH! WHERE are our Party LEADERS? She is destroying the Party, and she won't stop!
STOP HER!

I think it was First Lady Pat Nixon who visited Viet Nam in 1969 with her husband, Richard.

Wrong.

It was Elanor Roosevelt with the troops in WWII

So, Senator Obama addresses the furor over the video showing soundbites, out of context, of Pastor Wright's most inflammatory remarks, by presenting one of the most thoughtful, intelligent speeches ever on race in America. In this speech, he explicitly disavows the distasteful comments of Pastor Wright saying that 'he hates the sin, but loves the sinner' as Mike Huckabee stated. He attacks no one (his comments about his grandmother were an example of a reality in our lives and aptly illustrated the responses of many in our society to 'the unknown black man') and does not try to turn aside from the problem posed by his relationship with Pastor Wright.

On the other hand, Hillary Clinton lied repeatedly, over several months, about her experiences in Ireland, Bosnia and Macedonia. Her response when confronted by video refuting her version of events is to first claim that she 'misspoke, then that she was tired on that one occasion, then that it was the 'first' (I counted at least 3 times on Bosnia in the video clips since December) time she misspoke in 12 years, and finally when all of those ploys fail, she tries to turn attention back to Obama and Pastor Wright. Hillary Clinton is a proven, undisputed liar over many years.

Hmmm, do I want a president that I cannot trust to tell the truth? Do I want a president who prevaricates and dissembles when confronted with unpleasant truths?

No, I want a president who confronts difficult issues head-on in an intelligent and thoughtful manner.

"While what Hillary said was stupid and makes her look the same way, it's nothing compared to the hate speech that Obama continues to refuse to disavow."

Except Obama DID disown the speech.

Jeff-

Did John McCain throw his disabled first wife "under the bus" when he divorced her to marry the younger heiress he was having an extra-marital affair with?

Time after time Americans complain that politicians are liars, frauds, self-serving, power-hungry egoists who will say anything to get elected. It never ceases to amaze me that people would really consider voting for clinton. In her case, it's not even an unknown; its a given. Those who vote for her can never again complain about politicians or how the world views ours.

Hillary Clinton did not misspeak, she outright lied. It would be nice if Obama would completely disavow Wright. The way he talks it almost seems he thinks his grandmother is more racist and hateful than his pastor.

Hilary is like the chinese. She can smile right at you, and tell you a lie. She can do, say, and give you a lot of different things, but in the end, you will realize that are all copied, or made cheaply.

I want our president to kick china back to where it belongs. They are a main reason for the undoing of our economy. Why doesn't anybody investigate that?

Below is a quote from a Mother Jones article which "outs" the latest lie from the lair-in-chief, Hilary.
She really is a monster who will do anything to get elected.

For 15 years, Hillary Clinton has been part of a secretive religious group that seeks to bring Jesus back to Capitol Hill. Is she triangulating--or living her faith?...

The Fellowship's long-term goal is "a leadership led by God--leaders of all levels of society who direct projects as they are led by the spirit." According to the Fellowship's archives, the spirit has in the past led its members in Congress to increase U.S. support for the Duvalier regime in Haiti and the Park dictatorship in South Korea. The Fellowship's God-led men have also included General Suharto of Indonesia; Honduran general and death squad organizer Gustavo Alvarez Martinez; a Deutsche Bank official disgraced by financial ties to Hitler; and dictator Siad Barre of Somalia, plus a list of other generals and dictators.

This is Hillary Clinton: Whitewater, Travelgate, Monica Lewinsky and impeachment, renting out the Lincoln bedroom, the loss of the Rose Law Firm billing records for nearly 2 years until they were miraculously found in the White House living quarters, removing files from Vince Foster’s office following his suicide and before investigators could get there. Her stalling to release her full tax returns and earmark requests from her time in the Senate, as well as her Clinton library donors. Her apology to the African American community (for her campaigns racist comments) which came days too late. Her decline to return $170,000 in campaign contributions from individuals at International Profit Associates, or IPA accused of widespread sexual harassment, and whose CEO is a disbarred lawyer with a criminal record. Lets not forget her campaign eventually returned some $850,000 to Hong Kong businessman Norman Hsu who was found to be a fugitive in a 15-year old theft case. He was indicted for fraud related to his campaign contributions in 2007. Her failed inclusion and diplomacy with congress on her universal health care bid. Her subsequent surrender and alignment to the health care industry. Her flip flop on NAFTA. Her flip flop on Iraq. Her flip flop on Florida and Michigan. Her exaggerated foreign policy experience. Her dealing the race card better than Republicans could. Clinton photo with Rezko. Clinton photo and prayer breakfast with Rev Wright. Her lie about Bosnia. Her failure to get the endorsement of close friend Bill Richardson. Her flip flop on pledged delegates and superdelegates. Encouraging party elite to vote against the will of the people - “I believe strongly that in a democracy, we should respect the will of the people and to me, that means it’s time to do away with the Electoral College and move to the popular election of our president.” - Hillary Clinton in 2000

HIllary says "You can't choose your family but you can choose your pastor."

Well, guess what Hillary, you can also choose your husband. And after yours had oral sex with an intern you still chose to stick by him. Does that mean you agree/condone what he did?

No. I'm sure you disagree strongly with what he did, yet you did not walk out on him. Yet, when Obama's pastor says something that Obama disagrees with, you expect him to walk out on his church.

Good news is, there is virtually no way for you to win the dem nomination. But guess what, if you do, I will probably vote for you since you embrace about 90% of the policies that Obama embraces (just without the same honesty or eloquent)

Also, at the very least Hillary can rest assured that she didn't throw her own grandmother under the bus to try and make her scandal go away.

Posted by: Jeff | March 26, 2008 11:59 AM

I see....Obama threw her under the bus by calling her a typical white person. EWWWWWWWWW! Shall we ask McBush why he threw his ex-wife under the bus? She becomes disabled in a cr crash, gains weight, he comes home and starts to seeing his current wife? Is that the dedication you like to see in your guy?

This is a ridiculous prediction.
Obama is unelectable.
He cannot repair the tarnish of poor judgement.
HRC's flap is so minor compared to Obama. It's time for him to do the right thing and exit the campaign.
Obama if nominated will make McGovern's loss to Nixon look like it was competitive.

OOOOps! Guess you conjoured up your article before reading today's really hot topic, today's big Rasmussen poll showing Obama's been seriously damaged.

Please educate yourself before posting next time. Obama has most certainly disavowed his pastor's statements, not that it matters to me: they are, in fact, two completely different people with two completely different opinions.

This appears to be the case of the "lesser of two evils" - Clinton or Obama. The difficult part is to determine which of these two misguided morally corrupt individuals is the "lesser"?

if i were obama, id worry more of his problem than hers people dont care about that, what they do care is about obamas problem. His campaign may end before may morte than clintons

Abs’s Jake Tapper reported yesterday on an unnamed Democratic Party official saying that it’s not a question of *if* Clinton can somehow secure the nomination. The question is -- what will she have to do in order to achieve it? The official’s answer: She will have to "break his back," to destroy Obama and make him completely unacceptable. "Her securing the nomination is certainly possible - but it will require exercising the 'Tonya Harding option.'" the official said. Read full story here - http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/03/dnc-official-cl.html).
As the Clinton campaign spins Obama as actually being the reprehensibly negative player in this competition, and the media swallowing and regurgitating the most incendiary non-issues, (consider today’s self-righteous "all I know is that if it were me personally, I would have left that church), I fear for the future of Obama’s campaign, of the Democratic party, and the United States. I’m afraid we can’t take another two months of the destructive Clinton ambition machine. Please contact the Democratic National Committee (http://www.democrats.org/page/s/contactissues) and let the party leaders no that we can’t waste any more time; the train is nearing the bridge that’s out, and it takes a lot to stop that kind of fateful momentum. Superdelegates must decide *now*, not in August, to swing behind the best candidate in our generation so that the Democratic Party can look forward to the general election in November and beyond.

Paul West - an Obama supporter - is trying to raise a misstatement about Hillary to the level of the Wright-Obama Scandal.

WHY? To get Hillary to drop out... The reason many of us are now voting for Hillary is because of the Obama-Wright Scandal.

The really amazing thing about Obama's speech is that he operated on the assumption that his listeners would be capable of absorbing more than eight-second soundbites. He treated us with amazing good faith. Thankfully, polls show that most people returned his good faith and really listened to and understood him. People like Jeff who validate the status quo of politicians treating us like idiots are, thankfully, the minority.

This quote seriously made my day:

"Obama has bounced back and the band is striking up again"

and all because of an inside joke. Until then, I felt like it had only been saying what "Obama Girl" has been saying since this morning. Today has been hilarious--as far as the primaries are concerned. Iraq still sucks (to put it very mildly).

Hey McCain, are you sure you wanna keep us there for a full century...really...I mean, we've only been a country for (technically)232 years (the signing of the Declaration of Independence isn't the official beginning of the existence of the US, for the less in-the-know) do you really want us to spend the next third of our time as a sovereign state at war? C'mon!

But I digress.

Obama supports raising the upper wage limit that Social Security taxes are paid on. If you're poor like me that sounds good. Social Security is a huge part of what I pay every year and will need in a few years.

Hillary probably does too but I have never trusted her every since she wasn't sworn in as "co-president" and then botched our chance to fix health care.

McCain would probably increase the upper limit for how much Social Security pay the retired wealthy could recieve.

I'm probably wrong on all the above, I'm a voter, not a political analyst, but that's the impression I have on Social Security and I feel pretty much the same on other issues.

Obama = Hope.
Clinton = Distrust.
McCain = More of what got us here.

I'm not a big believer in hope but it looks to me like the choice available.

Greg deVeer - what a person does with a spouse is not really a concern. Actually it shows that a person is willing to work toward a goal and resolve the issue..but with Obama it shows bad judgment ..he is neither married or a relative and chooses to have him as a SPIRITUAL ADVISOR

This Clinton flub is hilariously similar to "Margaret B. Jones", a suburban girl who was recently caught having written a fake memoir about her gang-life on the streets of LA:

Do we really want a sleep deprived Hillary Clinton answering that phone at 3am???

TRUSTWORTHY ?
HILLARY IS NOT
BEAUTIFUL STORY ABOUT BOSNIA.
I had some respect for her....NOT ANY MORE
UNWORTHY TO BE PRESEDENT.

I firmly agree with the post by Sally, who strongly disagreed with the idea that Obama threw his Grandma "under the bus." Give me a break. Don't insult our intelligence. That wasn't his point. His point was that his grandmother, like most white people, is not a racist, and also loves him tremendously. Yet regardless, she still submits from time to time, to fears and stereotypes that seem almost unavoidable given our past and present social situation, including the impact of the media. He wasn't deamonizing her at all. He was talking about reality. I sometimes wonder where those who are so shocked by Wrights remarks, have lived all these years? NOt that I endorse his remarks at all, but i'm certainly not shocked by them.Nor do I assume that Obama must agree with him by association. Boy, could I be condemned by many from going to Catholic Church or being married by my uncle, a priest. Hillary Clinton's hypothetical response about how she would handle Wright is juvenile and desperate. Don't give me hypotheticals, please, esp. not during a campaign. Do we know who her preaches were? What they've said over the years? However, I don't fault Hillary as much about her remarks about being under fire. She may have exaggerated, but who knows how tramatic even just similar situations can feel to someone who's not military trained-- it's hard enough for those who are trained.

Both democratic candidates have aroused suspicion of their credibility. Embellishing their accomplishments seems to be a democratic trait - remember John Kerry?

Let me see Obama said he will stand up against Bush then he votes to funding in Iraq...he said he does not have the experience to run for President then he throws his hat into the ring..he said he only got 125,000 (?) from Renzko but then it came out later there is more money...he said I was against Iraq (not a senator at the time no vote) then when asked he said I do not know how I would vote...he said I was not present when statements I was told of them
but admits later he was around when controversial statements were made...he said I will help with you Nuclear waste issue to his voters then he waters down the leg so that it has no affect at all and the nuclear plant is a big contributor and he does not take corporate funding...all lies but Obama is all about honesty and truth at least that is what he claims and built his platform on...

The race is over now. Hillary is just as dillusional about it as she is about the sniper fire in Bosnia. Go Obama!

"The Chicago Tribune" aka "The Voice of Obama."

The difference between the two is Wright 'misspoke'not Barack Obama. In Hillary Clinton's case it is she herself who 'misspoke'.

People forget that Wright is Obama's Spiritual advisor...this is more complex then just a pastor..a spiritual advisor meets regularly and helps a person grow in thoughts, actions and way of life...several years of this type of mentality mentoring Obama that is bad..how much influence did Obama actually gain from Wright...no one really knows and comments like "your typical white woman" is a little insight into Obama's thanking...if you said a typical black woman how many problems would this cause...

Hillary claims that she 'misspoke' because of sleep deprivation. Can you imagine the danger for our country of having her answering that 3 AM phone call? She is unfit for the President position, and she'll always be.

I just read Hillary's pastor's sermon on Easter Sunday speaking rather well of Rev. Wright in an insightful talk about race relations. I also read that Hillary stayed home on Easter so it's too bad she didn't hear his message. When reading the outrageous snippets of Wright's speeches one should make sure the entire speech is heard/read. I don't defend these outrages but there is more to his story that may be worth hearing.

Just Words…

Hillary Clinton – Comes across as someone who believes she is entitled to the Presidency because she is wife to Bill Clinton. But she is obviously a tough person who will fight until the last drop to get her way. Problem is she does not care about the path of destruction her fight ends in. As long as she takes the opponent down she will be happy even if she loses.

She likes to bash the media trying to mimic Obama by saying ‘Just Words’ but she should be careful because we can all see she has lied about numerous qualifications on her fictitious ‘resume’ about experience. She blatantly LIES. For instance:

Foreign Policy: Bosnia visit and Macedonia & Ireland Peace Talks

Bosnia was a flat out lie (I knew that before it was blasted in video). Clinton was never under any direct or indirect threat and was greeted by staff, children and guest without body armor or any kind.

Ireland Peace Talk negotiations. Clinton delivered a speech and helped with lunch arrangements. She had no significant role in the negotiation process. Basically delivered a speech, ate lunch and left.

Arrived the day after Macedonia negotiations yet claims to have been a part of this process also.

NAFTA: according to Hillary’s own White House documentation she played a significant role in the NAFTA discussions and promoted NAFTA as the best thing since sliced bread. Some members of congress are quoted saying she ‘shoved’ NAFTA down everyone’s throats. But…secretly behind closed doors she despised it…hmm

Wasted taxpayers $ in secret health plan negotiations (1993-1994) with handpicked members of the health care industry. Then caved into the health care lobbyist and received funds after her 1st attempt to secure universal healthcare. Now she wants to push the same plan forcing everyone to purchase into a ready made plan that will likely favor the industry and bankrupt American citizens. But…secretly behind closed doors she despised it…hmm

Iraq War supported the war from day one by going along with the general consensus instead of standing firm against a war that has practically bankrupted America and has killed 4000 American soldiers. Many of them younger than 25. Over 80, 000 Iraqi people have been killed to date.

“Just Words is not a phase that Hillary Clinton should be making fun of. Because obviously the only words she knows how to speak are lies. If we hired her based on her ‘resume’ we would have to impeach her for lying about her qualifications.

Still don't get why so many journalists write these editorials in hopes of Clinton's fall...

I hate but can't help wonder.... is it gender discrimination?

If today it's a male candidate who's strong and tenatious, I doubt that the feedback and sentiments from the journalists would be so negative.

It's sad taht the US that prides itself on being a country of freedom, liberty and equality could not stand having a powerful strong female presidential candidate. It's time to take some lessons on EQUALITY from the rest of the world...

She didn't 'misspeak', she 'misremembered'. She's delusional in puffing up her role in everything - and believing her own PR.

We can't afford a President who's not totally in touch with reality.

McCain will never get us out of Iraq, as a matter of fact he is likely to authorize a resurge. Clinton LIED about Bosnia, she LIED about NAFTA, she LIED about North Ireland. Obama's pastor made the statements not HIM...WAKE UP PEOPLE...NO TO BUSH 3(I.E.McCain Presidency), NO TO BUSH/CLINTON DYNASTY (They have enjoyed the Lincoln room for over 28 damn years). These two families have systematically divided and sepearated this country with their elitist political agendas.

Democrats should try to think positively if they want to win the White House in order to bring the international recognition back to the world's frontline democracy. The best contribution by Hillary Clinton towards the above is to quit the race and support wholeheartedy Barack Obama who is for CHANGE that is what the Americans dream of.

What is wrong with all of us, when did we stop thinking and become juggaurnauts of fear and reprisal. There is lack of civility among us that goes beyond the candidates we support. I am afraid this election is more about the darkness in our soul than it is about electing a president. How did this grEAT american story deteriorated into such a horrible nasty infighting. A woman and a black man could become our possible president. If you are medium income or poor white person, asian, latino, native American or black. The election of one of these candidates will have made it real for all American that their children and grand children can truely become president of these United states. People wake up and vote your hopes and dream for a better America than the one we inherited. God Bless us that we don't vote in the dark night of the Sou;l because only blood shed can restore the light. God bless us all.

Quote "Over the weekend, Indiana Gov. Evan Bayh, "
(around the 25th paragraph)
Since when has Evan Bayh been the Governor of Indiana? Uhh, That would be Mitch Daniels. . .Nice mistake, kind of like Hilary's. .
Obama has my Vote.

Regardless, of the exact details Bosnia is not a country one goes to vacation. There might not have been fighting at her location but I am sure there was chaos somewhere else nearby. Its a dangerous country especially during that period any visit there should be considered dangerous. So lets either get the focus back of solving America's problems or why Obama would choose a man that sounds like Louis Farrakhan as his spiritual advisor

How about this for experience and 3 AM call. Candidate Clinton is prone to error because she is sleep deprived .. how about someone like that answering that 3 AM call..! Oops I made a mistake by nuking a country which I felt had problem and sniper fire greeted me - but what the hell it aint as bad as the Wright Story ..!

She claims she he wouldn't be her pastor - yeah right - right wing conspiracy can only be used to excuse my husband..!

She has proven beyond a shadow of doubt that you dont automatically get to share experience with husband (as governer or president) - experience is not Marital Asset... that can be shared :)

I am praying for a 3 AM call to wake up Clintons - its about time that they (both the Clintons) quit!

“And the United States of America government, when it came to treating her citizens of Indian descent, she failed. She put them on reservations.”

“When it came to putting her citizens of Japanese descent fairly, she failed. She put them in interment prison camps.”

“When it came to putting the citizens of African descent fairly, America failed. She put them in chains. The government put them on slave quarters. Put them on auction blocks. Put them in cotton fields. Put them in inferior schools. Put them in substandard housing. Put them scientific experiments. Put them in the lower paying jobs. Put them outside the equal protection of the law. Kept them out of their racist bastions of higher education, and locked them into positions of hopelessness and helplessness.”

“The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three strike law and then wants us to sing God Bless America. Naw, naw, naw. Not God Bless America. God Damn America! That’s in the Bible. For killing innocent people. God Damn America for treating us citizens as less than human. God Damn America as long as she tries to act like she is God and she is Supreme.”

Lots of people, usually military people, have dodged sniper fire. That doesn't make them qualified to be President of the U.S. Whether Hillary dodged it or not, is to me irrelevant.

Whether Hillary lies once in a while is also irrelevant. Why? Because all politicians lie. All of them. No honest politician would last in that game long enough to reach the possibility of becoming president. If they don't lie and cheat sufficiently, and play the good ol' boys game right, their own party will spend hard cash to run them off and see them defeated. So I think it's fair to say that all of the candidates are liars in varying degrees. The American voters have proven that they prefer people who are the best of the best at lying, but really, does lying get the job done? So why don't we judge on other criteria?

Clinton was impeached, and then acquitted. Does acquitted mean nothing in this country that likes to punish people until they moment they die for the smallest indiscretion? That being because the vast majority of us are so perfect we hurt God's eyes when He looks upon us.

Even had Clinton not been acquitted, how is it Hillary's or any wife's fault when her husband can't control his little head?

Why do people continue to berate Hillary because she didn't throw all of Bill's things out on the White House lawn and stomp over to the first lawyer and accuse him of all manner of things like any white trash would? Did it occur to anyone that since there was already a 3-ring circus in progress, Hillary decided we were already a big enough laughing stock to the rest of the world without adding to it herself? And that maybe she was then and still is trying to obey the Word of God which so many people claim to follow but know nothing about? God does not accept divorce. Read it for yourself in the New Testament of the King James Bible. It's all there. God does not appreciate or reward hate mongers or people who purposely try to make trouble. Once you're married, as promised before God, it's for better or worse.

However, someone who spends 20 years listening to hate speech, that not only runs white people down, but also runs women of all colors down, and at the pulpit in the sanctuary yells to God: "God Damn America!" is another matter.

How many people earn as much as the Pastor Wright in this country? How many live in as fine a home as he? How many people are as poor as the Obama's claim to be? Have you seen their tax returns? How many people in this country attended Harvard Law School? Those poor black folks have all of these things, yet they are whining about how terrible they have it.

The black people involved in this campaign who have all these blessings thanks to America, are berating America and yelling to God to "Damn America." What is their complaint when they are doing better than 90% of the people, regardless of color, in this country? They want us all to feel sorry for them when they are better off than most of us!

Not only did Obama listen to this swill for 20 years, but he took his two little girls to listen during their most impressionable years. Why is this better than Skin Heads? Or KKK? None of these groups are killing people anymore so far as we know, but they are still spreading hate. Why is it OK for blacks to spread hate, in their churches no less, than for a few misguided whites to do the same?

Obama seems to have used very poor judgment in hanging around the wrong people, and Pastor Wright isn't the only one. How about that real estate deal? Obama hasn't even gotten close to the White House and already they need a special counsel for this guy.

There may be white people who behave the way Obama's grandmother did, but I am not one of them, nor has anyone behaved in such a way in my presence. I find it insulting that he lumps everyone together. Isn't that one of the complaints black people have? That we judge them all by a few, and often the most questionable few?

Frankly, I'm disgusted with this whole campaign year and everything having to do with it. Will be good when it's over no matter who is the winner.

All these people saying "I'm tired of the negative comments by the candidates" are "head in the sand voters". Give me information, I'll decide if its relevant or true. More information, negative or positive, is information that I would like to see. Freedom of speech baby, gotta love it !

Doubts about her foreign policy experience? Obama has none.

At least she has been to 80 nations on behalf of America.

See you at the Convention.

sally @12:35pm -- if only more people like you were around who understand that complex ideas and issues are not composed of a sentence or a string of sentences pasted together. the larger question requires hard work in absorbing all of what a person is expressing. by and large, the people who post on these message boards refuse to do anything but take the easy way out. depressing...

Gotta say, all things considered, if I were a Democrat I would still go for Obama. Sure, he's a racist. You don't spend 20 years in a church like that unless something being said resonates with you. But how much damage can he do? I see a vote for Obama as an affirmative action vote to end affirmative action. Enough race hustlers like J. Wright have been spewing forth this venom for long enough that many blacks believe it. there truly is a crisis of spirit inthe black community, even though for the past 30 years they have brought this largely on themselves. Maybe with an Obama in office, they will step down from their pedestal of sanctification through victimization to join the rest of humanity. As for Hillary? She's beneath contempt. How you Democrats let her get to where she is is beyond me. You should be ashamed. Obama I can understand. He's a garden variety racist. Indeed, if anything, he is the product of 40 years' worth of Democratic Balkanization. Hillary is a criminal. But, since I think that most Democrats are criminals any way, maybe you guys should go ahead and choose her to be your nominee. She seems to better reflect the core values of Democrats: divide, conquer, Balkanize, lie, trash America, pander, bread and circuses....ad nauseum...

Wow, look at all the 'kool-aid' cups lying on the ground here. The Billary loyalists are swarming around the hive to protect their Queen.

I particularly enjoy the comments about how "Obama secretly hates White people" - Nickberry

Wow, how insightful. You really have your finger on the pulse of the campaign season. That must be some secret to keep though?

QP "It's sad that the US prides itself on being a country of freedom, lberty and equality couldn't stand having a powerful strong female presidential candidate"
- what's sad is that the US can't find but 2 families with which to select a "powerful strong female presidential candidate" Would you feel the same way about Chelsea Clinton in 2016? Why or Why not? Jenna Bush in 2024?

I've heard the election process compared to choosing a CEO, (not my comparison). If that's the case, when has anyone ever hired the wife of the former CEO? What would qualify her to run a major company?

I pray god that it ends this contest SOONER THAN MAY.

HILLARY - PLEASE GO AWAY AND LEAVE US ALONE !!!

As an independant, I'm not happy with all 3 candidates. Obama won't denounce Wrights comments for what they really were - RACIST, Clinton is an outright liar / fraud, and McCain seems to be drifting to the far right. It may come down to voting for the candidate whom is the least offensive.

"I personally thinks that Obama hates older white women..."

I think you have that backward, Older white women Hate Obama... because they grew up in a time of segregation.

African American knew their place back in those days, such as the back of the bus, and separate washroom that said "White Only". Suddenly that all change when civil right came into their lives. Now not only do they get to sit anywhere on the bus, but they can use the toilets anywhere.

I'm sure those older white women wish for days gone by and hope that Hillary will bring back the good old days.

"Why are people so eager to vote an inexperienced minority into office? They refuse to look into his past, ignore suggestions and hints of wrongdoing, and even disbelieve that he associates with his Reverend's and wife's own words.
This country has spun out of control and I see no hope for it - other than McCain.

Sound like you're a racist. Why use the term minority? Do you consider yourself the majority?

pauls bias comes thru quite clear in this article. WHy on earth would Hillary quit. She won Texas, Ohio, and is going to win PA and WV in landslides. What it really comes down to is if the Obama campaign is successful in repressing revotes in Florida and Michigan. If those 2 states votes are allowed to vote she can win, if they are told their vote doesnt matter than she probably can not. However I dont think the Obama sheep like the author of this article realize just how bad the Wright flap has hurt him and it will be a HUGE issue come November. Also the fact that 30% of Hilalry supporters say that they will vote McCain over Obama just gives even less optimism for an Obama campaign in November. I think you are reading way too much into the Bosnia flap and not nearly enough into both the lie Obama told on MSNBC and FOx News, and the fact that he stayed in a hate filled church for 20 years and even brought his kids to hear that garbage week after week. How do you think that is going to play come Nov? The only people that are not bothered by it are Obama supporters who would back him if he supported Hitler. All independants and the non sheep are put off by the Wright controversy and it even shows more as Wright is canceling every event he has since. The Obama campaign will not be able to hide him forever and by disenfranchising voters in both Florida nad Michigan he is just giving those states to McCain in NOv.

Folks lets not forget that our goal is to win for Democrats. Republicans have destroyed this country and will take a long time to recover. President alone will not succeed. We need congress and senate. Clinton and Obama are consuming potential democrat funds and will leave much less for others. Super delegate should start to commit so that we have funds for senate ( remember supreme court). as I see that there will be no difference in June but two damaged candidates and lot less funds for democrats. At this point I see Clinton doing more damage, by telling that McCain will be bette than Obama, a fellow democrat. Whose idea was to have one month break?

I believe that all the conversation over the speech by Obama's pastor is pretty uneventful. If you are going to crucify someone over the words of another, who does that make you think of. Who was crucified over another's words? We, all of us, have to be intelligent enough to disseminate truth and to form our own opinions. we take from others' words what is meaningful, discard the rest. That is what intelligent people do. I would challenge every citizen to truthfully say that they agree with everything that their own pastor has ever said. Imagine, if everyone did agree with that, race would be so much less an issue today, since most Americans consider themselves Christians. And as Christians who listen and agree with their pastors, they are not racists......
Think. Free speech is one of the rights guaranteed by the constitution. No one has to agree with what is said, but, just because they listen, can they be held accountable??? Should they??

"Hilary is like the chinese.

Wow what a racist rant.

Now it's the Chinese that screw up this country.

The sub prime mortgage and WAL MART screwed up this country, not the Chinese.

She has to go. I have had enough Clintons for the rest of my life. Why is it so hard to move this country forward. All these young people voting for Obama, they will not swing over to Hillary even if she would get the nod.

now i understand how hillary could forgive bill clinton for lying to the country and being immoral, she is just as big a liar as her husband and probably just as immoral

if Obama is the nominee he will never win the general election. The republicans are notorious for finding dirt, ie: Kerry...snd with his supporters like Farrakan and Wright they'll find plenty....
BUT...If Obama does win the election be prepared for an Islam nation and girls, what sizes do Burkas come in?

Congrats dems! you've got your "dream" team...they've single (or double) handedly made about any and every blunder that they or we could have "dreamed" up. For the life of me though, I just can't understand how you guys didn't see this coming. Didn't any of you Obama fans bother to read any deeper that the sound-bite headlines or spins placed on the air by supportive fans in the press? Or...didn't any of the Hillary clan at least suspect any truth issues? What should have been a slam dunk year for the Dems and their chance to re-claim the presidency (at least for one term)has turned into their worst nightmare...and who's to blame? Oh well, what can you expect from the party that selected "the screamer" as their leader and a scorned, angry woman and a fringe element liberal man as their candidates? As an ex-dem, again congrats (and for those of you capable of actually thinking for your self, you might consider re-aligning yourself with organizations with agendas that actually reflect moderate/thinking mentalities!)
