The Swamp

by Mark Silva

Sen. Hillary Clinton's firewall is burning hotter these days.

The senator from New York has boosted her apparent advantage over Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois in the contest for Pennsylvania's Democrats on April 22: Clinton 51 percent, Obama 35 percent, according to the new results today of a Franklin and Marshall College poll.

This is a doubling of Clinton's edge over Obama in the Keystone State since the last survey of the gauge formerly known as the Keystone Poll. In that Feb. 13-18 survey, Clinton held an edge of 44 to 37 over Obama. Clinton now leads among voters "in virtually every demographic group,'' the folks at Franklin and Marshall report today.

"Obama has the advantage among non-whites and voters in Philadelphia, but he does not yet hold an advantage among young adults — a group he has won by large margins in many early primary states,'' they report. "Male voters are evenly split between Clinton and Obama, and nearly one in seven (13 percent) likely Democratic voters remains undecided.

This may help explain why Clinton is campaigning in Indiana today.

For more, see the poll.

Uh-oh. Was this expected? Here's hoping the undecideds decide for Obama!

Looks like peopel are not buying his lame speech to explain why he attended a hate mongers church for 20 years. That scandal ruined Obama. He will never win now.

I suppose this doesn't surprise me...I am a Republican, however Obama had my attention...I really felt that he might be the one to bring about changes to the face of politics..I wouldn't of voted for him, but I was chhering for him...But I have to say that I am having a VERY difficult time overcoming the fact that he willingly spent 20 years of his life with a man whose spews hate & racism...And that he listened to him as a spiritual advisor... I feel like it is the same old thing with "African American's" they can put on a neutral front, however behind the facade lies the attitudes like Rev. Wright... Such a SHAME!! I would hate to see HIllary wins this nomination...I suppose the deck will land where it is suppose to!
Perhaps now that the people can see how USELESS Hilary actually was in the White House and that her Foreign Policy experience she touts is FRAUD, we might have a huge influx of voters over to the republican ticket..Albeit, McCain isn't really a TRUE conservative...

Obama is toast. In fact, the Demoncratic party is toast.

ha ha the obama campaign wheels are starting to come off!!! sniff sniff can anyone say "Howard Dean!" Eerily similar ha! Alas people are beginning to see all talk and no action and surrounded by bad people. The Race Speech was good, but ineffective and hardly convincing!!! GO HILLARY!!!!

Why the hell are people voting for this idiot?

As with all the other big important states Hillary will win Pennsylvania. Go Hillary!!

As with all the other big important states Hillary will win Pennsylvania. Go Hillary!!

So, I take it that freedom of speech doesn't really apply to the black church then, does it. I have on numerous occasions heard comments by white pastors saying negative things about America. I've even been in the audience. This is a truly sad time for this country, a truly very sad time.

90% of my family resides in PA. One trip there will make it very obvious why Hillary is winning in the polls. I've never been to a more racially divided area in my life.

Hillary still needs to win all remaining states by at least 20 points to stay in the race. Based on the polls she's done unless Obama gets hit by a bus.

The big questions remain unanswered that cut to the core of Obama's credibility, character and judgment:

Mr. Obama, if you truly believe in a united America and are "post racial," why for the last 25 years have you aligned yourself and your family with the hateful, anti-American, anti-white, anti-semitic rhetoric of Jeremiah Wright and the Black Nationalist movement?

Mr. Obama, why have you donated tens of thousands of dollars, including $22,500 last year alone, to Jeremiah Wright to further his campaign of hate and diviseness?

Mr. Obama, why did it take the media and plummeting poll numbers to jolt you out of what can only be described as a racist stupor to address the issues of hate in your church?

Thank God people are finally starting to see the real Obama. Because he doesn't have much experience to run on, he professes to be "post-racial" and a new kind of politician. That is his primary appeal. The problem is, is that he is neither. Whether it's his 20-year association with a racist and anti-American "mentor"; or his admitted "boneheaded" relationship with Rezko; or his lying about the NAFTA incident; or his lying about his continuous opposition to the Iraq war; or his lying about getting us out in 16 months; or his continual use of the race card (for which he was busted by Tim Russert during one of the debates); or now his attempt to stop the revotes in Michigan and Florida which will result in the disenfranchisement of millions of voters ala Bush/Rove; Obama has shown that he is not honest, he is not the uniter, and he is not a new kind of politician. No, he is merely another relatively inexperienced, typical politician who happens to be able to read a speech on a teleprompter as good as anyone since Ronald Reagan. So, for many of us, it's not that we didn't hear the whole speech; it is that we just don't believe him anymore.

Obama's inability to properly distance himself from his pastor, farrakhan, and his wife's comments is tearing him down. Many people who were so impressed with his ability to glide above the fray are now unimpressed as he appears as problematic as the other candidates. This is definitely a race-driven vote now.

If she ends up winning the nomination but won't release her tax returns, this old leftover left-winger from the 1960s will vote for McCain.

The polls thus far have pretty much been wrong this entire election, so I would take this one with a grain of salt. First, we need to keep in mind that this election has swarms of new voters, whom the pollsters do not contact. Second, most pollsters use landline phones. A lot of young people only have cell phones, so their opinions aren't really being counted and they are voting in overwhelming numbers for Obama.

Obama's lies, and profound lack of character and judgment are "coming home to roost."

You will continue to fool the fools, but their numbers will dwindle with each passing day as they wake up from their zombie-like comas and pour your vile Kool-Aid down the drain.

Goodbye sweet prince of deceit and hate.

It's amazing to see the change in the media's perception of these two candidates.

All seems positive for Clinton and all seems negative for Obama.

So much for any meaningful chamge in the political scene in this country.

It would seem people in this country choose the comfortable confines of mediocrity over any sort of meaningful change.

Glad this current society wasn't around 200 some-odd year ago or we'd be purchasing our tea and crumpets with pounds and schillings.

Oops...sorry...didn't mean to sound unpatriotic. I want to be blindly patriotic no matter the cost.

We'll see if this lead holds. The poll was taken from the 13th through the 18th so Obama's speech on race in America had no impact on the responses. Now that he has begun to take back control of the debate and will hopefully stop letting Hillary define him, his numbers will increase. Remember, the primary is over a month away and everything could change in that amount of time. The pollsters themselves point out that the race is hardly decided and this poll only proves that Pennsylvania remains a battleground state for both the Democratic primaries and the general election.

Buried in his smoke screen speech on Monday, Obama contradicted more than a year of denials and spin from him and his staff about his knowledge of Jeremiah Wright's controversial sermons and pattern of hate and anti-Americanism.

It looks like Americans are smarter than Obama thinks.

Looks like Reverend Wright is doing more damage than Obama's supporters would like to admit. So much for the great lecture..um, I mean speech, the other day.

Good for Hillary. Obviously voters in Pennsylvania have decided not to drink the Obama Kool-Aid. What these figures do not show is that he is not polling as well among African Americans in Pennsylvania compared with elsewhere in the country.
Obama campaigned vigorously last year against Mayor Michael Nutter. Nutter won -- and apparently has not forgotten the slight from Obama. Nutter has endorsed Clinton. Obama campaigned for a mayoral candidate with a name as unusual as his own: Chaka Fattah, who lost resoundingly. Payback, as they say, is a dog.

Bruce Springsteen-Radio Nowhere

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmLt6kcZ72Q

"I always look at my work as trying to measure the distance between American promise and American reality," Springsteen says. "And I think (Obama's) inspired a lot of people with that idea: How do you make that distance shorter? How do we create a more humane society? We've lived through such ugly times that people want to have a romance with the idea of America again, and I think they need to.

Obama should not get the nomination. We don't need a racist in the White House. If Obama thought Imus should be fired, we feel that Obama should be fired.

Listen up Democrats. If Omama is the Nominee, the Republicans will keep the White House. It's not called the White House for nothing.

Governor Rendel might just wish he had supported Obama after this is all said and done. He IS part the the machine and that is exactly what needs to change. Doing all of the stuff behind closed doors. If Obama get the nomination where will Governor Rendall be than....yeah he will switch his loyality as fast as he ca, I only hope that Obama sees him for what he is. I may even move to PA just to vote against Rendel what ever it is he runs for next. As close as he is to the Billary Clintions one wonders if he has aspirations of being the VP nominee

It is very unfortunate that the race becomes now the deciding factor to elect the President of the US.I believe all of us are looking to the color of skin to elect a President even if the country falls down to recession, unemployment, selling our govt contracts to the foreign countries,Increase in fuel charge and big companies moving out of the US to make huge profit etc, etc. What a shame to call us the most developed countries in the world. our minds are bogged down with the race, race, race. I Know no one in this world is perfect, and I was under the belief that the people of the US have a thick skin to forget and forgive. May be I am wrong.Good Luck to you Barak.

we want Barack Obama not clinton

This is the facts. Persons voting for either candidate is voting because they like the candidate and believe the candidate will do the things they say.

Voter's at this point shouldn't let the "media" sway your vote based on inneundo, gossip, circumventions of the truth, guilty by association and the rest of the nonsense.

When you add Race to the equation, the media has obviously turned this into a Race Election of the Democratic side. The media is responsible for what it chooses to print or broadcast; the ways the American Media works, they decide then disseminate the media universally and all components: radio, televison and print newspapers speak, talk and write on the issues. In other words, the media is a group of highly educated people. They knew, associating Barrack Obama with something his Pastor said would hurt him when it came to all the white support he was getting. And this is exactly why the Media let this story go and are keeping the story in print, talk radio and broadcast news overwhelmingly. They want to defeat Barrack Obama. The reason. Millions of people would say out of bias. And, I'll go even further. The powers that be in this country have warned the media to get this guy because the powers that be do not want a African American to lead what they feel is the Greatest Country on Earth, created for and by European Americans and they do not want a Black man holding that much Power. It would shock the world, and make the powerful people in Washington a laughing stock in World circles. I mean in Brazil the majority population is Black over 90 million, but a small Latino population of Spain and Portugese run the country and keep Blacks in a Caste System of Low Class. They only have one elected official out of 90 million people a female that was elected a few years ago. Look at France. Blacks can't vote their. In fact, no immigrant can.. Same thing in Germany. This is to bad for Obama because a lot of white's like the guy; but, they must stick to the larger plan. Obama may have a hard time winning the Senate seat back in Illinois when his term is up also. We haven't got that far, but I bet the GOP has.

Obama has done nothing but attend a Church;no doubt, his wife was a member of first since she is from Chicago and he probably stayed there because it was a family decision. The church in actuality in nothing like it is being portrayed.

Hey Dummy , You posted an artiscle requesting Campaign Donations without an address.

GO HILLARY !!!

GO HILLARY !!!

Now what is needed is an in-depth analysis of John McCain's embracing of Rod Parsley, Jerry Falwell, and Pat Robertson - Christian preachers who have advocated the eradication of Islam, death to homosexuals, and assasinations of democratically elected foreign leaders. Seems to me that the Reverend Wright pales in comparison to these violent and malevolent
white ministers.

Looks like democrats have once more found a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory

It disappoints me that people are willing to distance themselves from Obama because of Reverend Wright.

As a non-White, non-Latino, and non-African American living in a predominantly African American neighborhood I can't speak for any of those ethnicities I am not, but I can see where Wright is coming from.

Resentment runs deep and it goes back generations.

While I don't agree with him on the AIDS thing at all, I certainly can understand his suspicions. After all, the guy was still an adult when the Tuskegee Study of Untreated Syphilis in the Negro Male was uncovered in the press. And that went on for forty years! So, it doesn't tae much for someone still shocked by that to think gov't conspiracy when it comes to AIDS.

Then the idea that the U.S. brought 9/11 upon themselves isn't such a farfetched idea. In fact Ron Paul has said similar things in the Republican debates. Not that we were responsible for the attacks, but our meddling in Middle East affairs that date back decades had some bearing on these attacks.

Go Hillary! Hillary is the best person for the job of President

I find it interesting that if this was a white candidate attending a church where the pastor said these things about African Americans... his/her political career would be over.

Talk about double standard. I know African Americans are angry about prejudice but does that mean they should also act prejudiced? I think not. Lead by example Obama. In this case you failed.

houston you have a problem--concerning the most honest, fallible, intelligent, capable candidate you have had a chance to support....god hel us all....

someone considered obama's speech a rorschach test of sorts. people will interpret it in a way revealing their inner biases and deeper feelings regarding the topic of race relations and reconciliation.

it's clear to most who have posted thus far that they are not convinced because they have chosen--or for lack of critical reading/ listening ability are unable (my sense the latter)--to fully parse out his speech to find answers about obama, wright, and the state of american citizens concerning each other, their differences, their commonalities, their self-imposed divisions. however, , it's clear to me that obama is not only sincere with what he is saying, but he's also capable of looking at issues from a level-headed perspective and laying it out for all to see, study, discuss, and seek deeper, meaningful solutions. but, you can rant all you want. it's all sport to you--like the ravings of fans about their hometeams. hot air and meaningless ultimately until you sober up, get showered for work, and realize that the silly season wasn't worth the hangover.

to the matter of wright--it's clear that he has some anger about american domestic and foreign policies. no doubt, he has been called N* and has been forced to eat at other counters and use other bathrooms and was perhaps denied access to loans, and neighborhoods. heck, he was probably called "boy" once or twice. so is there hate? why wouldn't there be is the question. why wouldn't he wish the same harm on those institutions that have and continue to harm people like him? it's called sweet revenge. no, it's not a jesus thing to feel, but he's not jesus. he's a black man in america. get with it.

NEWS FLASH TO THE ISOLATED FOOLS OUT THERE: there are THOUSANDS of Americans who feel the same way who are of all backgrounds--asians, latinos, scared racists, survivalists, gays, mysoginists who fear women's new found power, short people, men with small things, etc. The fact that his statements have been made public is a gift to americans because the fact is, those who pound their chests out of patriotism and nationalism have made themselves deaf to the many silent citizens who truly whisper beneath their breath that things should be better, but the powers that be won't allow change to get in the way of profits so (paraphrased of course): screw this country, screw the rich bastards who always get away with crimes while the poor get the shaft, ie, homeowners losing homes, while banks that created the predatory loans and sold the heck out of them up and down the chain are get corporate welfare bail outs!!, screw the president and his arrogant, illiterate myopic view of the world, screw america--the land of small minded complainers and whiners whose children have to wear helmets and have to ALL win on America's soccer fields every friggin' saturday, who are raised by equally ignorant mothers and fathers who would rather talk boats and college sports than gain and offer a sense of the real world around them, screw white male blue collar workers who are too ignorant to see that they're getting screwed by their white white collar brothers EVERY SINGLE DAY like the enron folks and the bear stearn folks, and now the halliburton and the pentagon folks who are sending them to fight unnecessary wars, screw the lazy, drug-addled, gun toting blacks who complain and have had plenty of time to get their acts together and join the progress of this country DESPITE THE OBSTACLES (refer to other immigrants who arrive, don't know anything and the next thing you know--4 gas stations, 2 liquor stores, a bar, a restaurant, the public office!!), screw the wets who come here with all the other immmigrants and impose their lousy driving, garbled english, mean spirited, thirdworld haggling, cash-only to avoid the taxes store-owning cultures on us and get the under the table jobs for HALF THE MINIMUM WAGE the send the money to a foreign economy, screw the white liberals like hillary who only use their stances to win favor from minorities and poor whites to gain power and send their husbands around the world collecting millions of dollars in speaking fees and "consultant" gigs hooking up their buddies with drilling rights and oil rights and sex trafficking rights, screw michelle obama who doesn't konw when to keep her mouth shut and doesn't know how to keep the attention from getting to her thick, nappy head, screw obama who through good old american ambition and insecurity as a lost mixed breed young adult sought comfort and a sense of place in an idiot like wright and his ilk who talk as if they actually believe the crap they say, screw houston for the people who write on here--including me--who are so lonely that they seek to piss their opinions out in the anonymous ethers of the internet without ever truly engaging in anything educational, mind broadening and perspective-challenging, and screw the democrats for not having the balls to put their candidates, and the renegades of michigan and florida in check before it got ugly, screw the governor of florida for sticking his white nose in business that doesn't concern him, screw the republicans who are very smart and capable--nay, MASTERFUL at being such low lifes it's friggin impressive in a good-luck-in-hell sort of way. and screw me for expecting more from the american people who have done such a good job since the reagan years to vote with the lowest levels of their brains--the part that tells you when you're hungry, horny, sleepy, and have to move a bowel.

i'm so glad i don't feel this way.

god...forgive...america.

Wow IF Hillary wins with her 51% it will make her 3 wins out of the past 18 and Obama will win enough delegates to still make it mathematically impossible for her to win. What is the point? She has lost more states, more delegates, more votes, the only thing she is winning is Republican and Drug Addict Rush Limpbaugh support because they want to run against her and not Obama.

This isn't very surprising considering the intelligence level of the average citizen in philly. All Hillary is doing is setting up McCain and a hundred years in Iraq, her and Billy should commended for their service to this country..

Black people can want and hope all they want in America - THEY WILL NEVER GET A BLACK PRESIDENT. Obama is as close to perfect as you will ever get to a candidate, but Nothing and Noone BLACK will EVER be enough for America. Now ask yourself - where would Jeremiah get those crazy notions from??? He must be crazy to call America racist.

you idiots deserve HRC to lead you into the future. First lady that could not even do that Job right. Just ask BILL.

I really didn't realise these Racial effects were so bad in the United States.. WHY DO YOU HOLD A MAN ACCOUNTABLE FOR WORDS HE DID NOT UTTER? HOW MANY OF YOU HAVE FAMILY AND FRIENDS THAT SAY THINGS YOU DON'T AGREE WITH AND YET THEY ARE STILL FAMILY/FRIENDS? DO YOU THINK THIS WRIGHT PASTOR SPENT HIS 20 YEARS BARACK HAS BEEN IN THIS CHURCH SAYING THESE THINGS LIKE THAT?
THIS IS ELECTION TIME AND PEOPLE FROM ANY ANGLE OF CAMPAIGN WILL SAY THINGS CANDIDATES ARE NOT SAYING. JUST LIUKE THE WOMAN FROM THE CLINTON CAMPAIGN SAID WHAT SHE SAID, DP YPU HOLD HILLARY ACCOUNTABLE FOR THAT? COME ON PEOPLE YOU ARE BETTER AND MORE INTELLIGENT THAN THAT. LEST ADDRESS THE ISSUES BEING FACED BY THE COUNTRY.

GO OBAMA!!

For those aghast (like myself) at the attacks on Obama based on a church that has been such a force for hope and progress in this city, remember that the people on this board attacking Obama are the ones who are racist. They have been biding their time, slandering him with their silly "Barack is a Muslim" rhetoric, and now they have found their time to pounce.

The white side of Barack's family are the ones who raised him and loved him, and you call him a racist. I suppose you find that easier than calling him the names you are already calling him in your racist heart of hearts.

BTW, I'm a white male and like Barack I cringed over racist comments my own grandmother used to make. I have also seen firsthand the racial division in OH and PA. Obama may lose PA but he'll win the nomination and the election because he's the best candidate, regardless of race, gender, or experience.

Maybe the endorsement of Obama from the New Black Panther party will help, although the Obama campaign removed that information from its Web site yesterday. I wonder why?

I'd like to know why it matters to people what the paster of Obama's church says in sermons to his congregation? What does this have to do with the presidency? Have any of you so-called people of faith ever shuddered at things Rev. Falwell has said, such as, there is no such thing as evolution? Does that mean that anyone who listended to Rev. Falwell is automatically and catigorically married to those comments? Absolutely not, you are allowed to be guided in faith by people who you may not agree with part and parcel on every point. This arguement is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen in American politics. To be fair, we need to get transcripts of the sermons that the Clintons and McCains have attended over the course of their lives to make sure that we don't disagree with anything that their pastors said. We are shooting ourselves in the foot in this country. We have been presented with a real chance to change the political landscape that most of agree needs changing and all we are doing is looking for a reason to hate a guy who has the ability to affect the change we all want. So we have picked the most trivial, unrelated thing to stick to this guy so that we can keep our heads burried in the sand. Shame on us, we will get what we deserve. I just hope that the people who still have a chance to cast votes in the primaries have a few weeks to come to their senses. FYI America - the candidate who is perfect to you and who you agree with 100% of the time in thought and action does not exist. I commend Obama for standing up to this ridiculous attack and not disavowing his pastor. He made clear that he does not agree with his sentiments, but he did not condemn the man because there is probably a lot more good in Jeramiah Wright than there is bad - such as - he served his country in the Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Korean War. I agree with the previous poster who described us a spoiled teenagers. We have to wake up.

Have we all noticed also how the media has been obsessively focused on this preacher story? Like a rabid dog that won't let go...the media is obviously biased, but to whom? McCain...Hillary...or just sensationalizing 'non-issues'?

Do we all recall the media doing the same thing with Mr. Bill and Monica? Every hour of every day...it was truley mind numbing. And so we have history repeating itslef as it often does...the medai once again filling the airwaves with meaningless attention to a fairly trivial issue when held up against more formidable issues that face this country.

I wish I could wave a magic wand and open the eyes of the American Lemming...*sigh*...

Jerry, Obama is the on Democratic nominee with any chance at all of beating McCain. I'm a Democrat and I'D vote McCain over Hillary.

Hillary CAN NOT WIN. Nominating her is a waste of everyone's time.

Everybody still spouting off about Wright when we've been being lead by the nose by white, evangelical, creationist, Jesus Camp, gay-hating money-preachers for the past 8 years. Yes, these holier-than-thou white 'Christians' who think gays should die and that you'll go to eternal suffering if you don't follow their beliefs. Take a look at McCain's Hagee endorsement...why no outrage there?

Wow...all the neocons are out in full force with their lies and talking points? Listen to Limbaugh much John D and Ben and Vinny (nice spelling of peopel btw...where did YOU go to school?) and Jack Jons and Fred. Do any of you have an ORIGINAL opinion collectively between the whole lot of you?

As a couple of other people have said, polls don't mean too much this time around, and people generally aren't paying attention to the smear campaigns either. SO all of you should just shut your mouthes because it's not working this time around! Hilary was supposed to clean house in Texas, remember? And who got the majority of the delegates when it was all said and done? Obama. Who's crying and moaning NOW because Michigan and Florida still aren't going to be counted? HILARY.

She needs to absolutely kick butt in EVERY state from now on to have a chance at winning. She might pull off Pennsylvania, but that's only one piece of the puzzle. Obama has an inside track at Indiana since he's been pulling states all around it...so that's why Hilary's there right now. She needs momentum. ANY momentum.

At least I know this much: both Clinton and Obama know that Iran doesn't train al Queda terrorists, even if McCain 'forgot'. There's your Republican nominee - Mr. Forgetful!

I had a rather hard time chooseing between Obama and Hillary, but is now obvious that Obama's change is not what I would support. How can you unify a country with such hate?

It's unfortunate that the Wright thing has given this country's bigots a pretext for keeping the (1/2) black guy out, yet from the hateful comments we see from the (presumably) white posters here, that's exactly what's happening. The faux outrage is absurd.

By the standards of these haters the only conceivable black candidate is one who wants no part of the black community (however you want to define it). These people not interested in diversity. They're interested in conformity. And because Obama does not conform strictly to the standards of "mainstream" white society, he's being shunned. I'm ashamed for our country. You can see from attitudes like those expressed here that we're really not all that far advanced beyond the days of de jure segregation.

When Obama brought in his grandmother's comments as well as Ferraro's comments and tried to equate them with Wright's, it just proved that he is also a political hack. Now that he is fighting Clinton on equal (and not unfair) terms, it's tougher for him to win. He would have been a lot smarter if he had just apologized for supporting Wright, distanced himself from him and spoke about the races working together. He would have come out a champion. But, then he went into the gutter and now he has to be treated equally.

What is Obama's race? he has a White mother & African father. Why is he only referred to as African American? Is "black blood" that much stronger than "white blood" or is it by making him "just black" it make for "a better fight?" White against black, man vs woman? I fear his days as front runner are almost over. How can someone who's intelligent, great communicator and multi-racial be the top representative of the United States. Let's face it, the average American has much more in common with an ignorant, lying,"America's always right, " self serving President like George Bush. Got help us.

I was at an event last week-end and nobody there was going to vote for Obama after seeing the Rev Wright tapes.

All of the dems that voted for Obama in Illinois wish Hillary would of came out with the tapes earlier... they feel hood-winked by Obama.

Paulo

Two old sayings come to mind when I think of Obama and his association with the hateful Jeremiah Wright and Black Nationalist movement:

Actions speak louder than words.

Judge a man by his deeds, not his words.

So long, Obama.

I can understand why many are upset by the words of Rev. Wright. However, they are not Obama's words. I cannot judge his actions regarding his paster not having walked in the man's shoes. So what do you do, you have to make an intelligent informed decision based on information you have available to you and just a gut feeling you have about the man. I do know, however, without a single doubt in my mind, that Hillary is not what this country needs. She is more of the same. We need a drastic change in this country and the Clintons are not that change. Remember the last time they were in the White House -- the Democrats lost both houses of Congress and the Presidency because of their actions. Where would we be now if Al Gore had been elected instead of Bush. Why didn't Al Gore get elected???? Because of the actions of the Clintons. WE NEED CHANGE! How much more can we take of the same old politics. The only person running in this election that represents any kind of change is Obama. He may be imperfect (as we all are), but if you want this country to go in a different direction he is the best choice. Don't listen to the sounds bites, think. Think long and hard about where we have been, who got us there and where you want us to go in the future. We take chances at every election because we know that what the candidates say they may not be able to deliver. They don't have absolute power to make these things happen. So to some degree you have to look at character and right now the people with the best character in this election are Obama and McCain. However, McCain is too old and will be too easily swayed by the powers that want to keep us in war. Bless his heart he can't even keep what's going on in Iraq straight without help. So think long and hard about your decision.

No, Obama is going to win the nomination. Why? Because he is so far ahead in delegates, popular vote, states -- every category except already-committed superdelegates driven primarily by democratic party hacks -- that Clinton cannot catch up without overturning the party rules and ripping the party in half.

Remember, Clinton needs to win ~63% of ALL the remaining delegates in ALL the remaining states to end up ahead. So far, Clinton has NEVER broken 60%. Not even in her home state of New York. Not in California. Not in Ohio. And according to this poll, not in Pennsylvania.

Even though Clinton is currently ahead in Pennsylvania, this lead will change many times and will all end with Obama winning the nomination.

Sorry to inject logic into the idiocy on this blog.

Peace.

Of course there are NO white politicians who have friends and associates with extreme views on race! Be serious.

how can you condemm someone for a sound bite after 20 years of sermens
Barrack's speech was brillant. If it makes you uneasy then you have some soul seaching to do.

He did nothing with that lecture other than try to deflect the real issues. How could he associate with, and expose his little girls to, such a racist? Plus, what he did to his grandmother was absolutely disgusting. Here is a women who raised a biracial child back when it was considered scandalous. She sacrificed for him and raised him just to have him compare her to that vile hate monger. Shame on him.
Shame on those among you who condone this behavior.
Shame on the media for daring to compare that lecture to any speech by the great MLK.
when you lie down with dogs, you rise up with fleas. Someone hand Obama a flea collar, he is infested.

This is one poll, taken before Obama's speech on race relations, and the primary is a month away. So don't put too much stock in it. The Wright thing is going to blow over.

I grew up in Pennsylvania and worked for six years as a newspaper and magazine journalist there. My prediction is that Hillary will win Pennsylvania by 5-7 percentage points, which won't be enough to gain significant ground in the delegate count. Despite Ed Rendell's efforts, Obama will win Philadelphia and the Philly suburbs by a big margin, and he'll do well in Pittsburgh's East End, where there's a big population of college students and young professionals. That will offset a lot of the labor and senior vote for Hillary.

Shoot, why couldn't Barrack be a Catholic like everybody else. Hillary didn't bring down Obama, his own radical preacher brought Obama down. Damn he would've made a great President.

These polls are showing a few other things: One, in general, whites were somewhat distrustful of Obama chiefly because of his race but, were willing to give him a try. Two, once this racial charged association came out, white's ( not only the one's in the coming primary states) but across the whole country has galvanized into one and are planning to vote McCain in a president. In other words, if you are a minority, you have to shed your past, your race, your church anything that may be an aversion to what White people think is right. The way white people view the Race issue is the way you must view it too. If white's feel there is no more race issues facing American, there are no more issues. To raise any means you are racist. This is all complicated but what I hope come out of it is that Blacks leave the Democratic Party.

Um, you're arguing about results of a poll.

It took enormous political courage for Barack Obama to stand before a nation of skeptics and address what is perhaps the most difficult and painful issue in the history of this nation: racism. He, son of a white mother and a black father can understand the dilemma of race better than most of us because he has the two perspectives, has experienced discrimination and judgment from both sides and has had to live up to the expectations of both peoples. But not only is he the true bridge in the race gap of this country because of his racial background, but foremost because of his sophisticated and intelligent approach to the issue. I know that after eight years of George Bush, sophistication and intelligence are out of the scope of appreciation of many, as are honesty, courage and dignity. All of which Obama showed a plethora of in his speech. He clearly explained why there are still so many resentments on both sides of the racial divide and why it is so important not to ignore these resentments and pretend they don’t exist. We cannot deny 400 years of a history of discrimination. But we can come together as one nation in dialogue mode with openness and sincerity to heal together. Too bad there are only a few of us that understood his message. That understood that it would have been immoral of him to repudiate his former pastor. It would have been more politically savvy, but immoral. He took the risk of doing the right thing. If after that speech people have any doubt about whether he is ready to be president, this country really has not future except to fall deeper into the hatred, the wars, the corporate greed and the social injustice. I f we are not capable of even the minimal depth of analysis then we deserve another eight years of Hailiburton , Exxon-Mobil and Fox News governing our country.
So be it.

I love how all of the sudden Obama is now a racist? Everyone on this message board knows someone is related to someone or is someone who make derogatory comments about a particular ethnicity, sex or sexual preference. So I guess by these standards everyone in the world is racist and we should just all kill ourselves right?? What happened to people using their brains in this country? The facts are out that Obama has condemmed and i repeat condemmed and rejected the comments by Wright for over a year now. Some may say well how can you be with wright for 20 years. Has everyone here forgotten about a little thing called seperation of church and state??? There's a reason we have it in this country. C'mon clinton people are you so caught up in trying to get your candidate to win that you ignore the fact that older white women come out for clinton in droves and you place that like it's a natural outcome? John McCain has a religious figure that wants to use nuclear weapons to wipe out another religion "look it up" All i'm saying is 2 things 1 you can't hold someone accountable for another persons comments or we'd all be in the same boat and let's get back to the issues you know those things that are supposed to be number 1 on the list for all americans.

Look, we were not the ones who proclaimed he will walk out and seek another church if he were sitting in the pews and heard any of the hate filled sermons of Jeremiah Wright. Obama said it himself. It is thorouhly confirmed he is lying to protect his skin, not his intergrity. When caught lying he pretends to feign anger and indignation at the Rev Jeremiah Wright, his mentor of 20 plus long years. He sould have come clean and admitted an error or even a lapse of judgment, but no he vehemently denied hearing any of those hate filled sppeches. He is treating the American people like idiots and I do not happen to find his antics and waffling amusing. And I'm pretty sure many will NOT find his revolving answers very honest nor sincere.

I thought Obama's speech was great. I understand the rhetoric of fired up pastors. This issue of racism is real and it must be addressed if our nation is to survive another 200 years. Hillary or McCain will not address it.

OBAMA HAS ALREADY BEEN HIT BY A BUS AND HE IS DONE NOW THAT WE REALLY KNOW THE REAL OBAMA AND HIS WIFE SO GOODBYE MR. AND MRS. OBAMA.

reading the above comments and shaking my head. obama is the only candidate with any integrity in the race. if he makes a mistake he immediately explains and apologizes. i find that refreshing, after "i did not have sex with that woman" or "iraq has weapons of mass destruction" or "i did not know what i was voting for" or pick a subject that mccain has done a 180 on. obama gave a great speech if you listened to it. it came as close as i've heard to summing up racism both white and black as i've heard. maybe more importantly he talked about the political strategy of personal attack. we have huge problems in this country. if polls are correct this national enquirer mentality works. the fall of this country has started from 2001. we need to change direction. are we going to elect someone that is different from the typical politician weve seen in the last 20yrs. mc cain used to be that politician but he sold out after 2000. hillary is part of the status quo political world. obama has new ideas much like kennedy in the 60's. we have to drive change by voting for the only non conventional candidate in the race. haven't all of us had associations with people that may be detrimental to getting elected to office if it were put under a microscope. all the candidates have. there is no perfect person out there. we all have warts. look at their views on the issues. this is an important election. a vote for mccain means four more years of bush.

Don't you limit the number of words in these posts?

Go Hill!!!

Obamas campaign is over the only peopel that can not see the writing on teh wall are his sheep. Sorry but much less has ruined the career of many politicians. Obama will lose the chance to be president but I am sure he will still get to be a Senator unlike many others that have ahd similar scandals and mishaps before him.

It's obvious that many of the negative posters didn't actually hear or read his speech. If they had, they would know that they are channeling the simmering white anger that he specifically mentions in his speech. If all of Hillary's supporters think she's the candidate of character and honesty, then this campaign is far from over.

Obama is the right person to lead the USA. the Billaries and Bushes have enough damage.

Go Obama GO!

I understand the public's reaction to Wright's comments. I was appalled by them as well. But, I don't understand why individuals use Wright to crucify Obama and don't have the same reaction when McCain indicates his support for someone like Rev. Falwell or Pat Robertson, who have made equally appalling and divise comments.

I recall that after 9/11, Falwell a statement to the effect that 9/11 was brought back to home in part because of our nation's efforts to promote/tolerate homosexuality, abortion, and other "liberal" agenda items (though his explicit quote and his list of items admittedly escapes me now, that was the sentiment of his statements). Though Falwell's comments are as disgusting as Wright's comments regarding the reason for the 9/11 attacks, I've noticed that the media has not been running tapes of Falwell's comments for days on end like they have with respect to Wright's comments.

Why is it when white Christians agree with the underlying sentiment of these divise statements cloaked in religious sermons by Rev. Falwell (i.e., that homosexuality and abortions are sins), it is acceptable and it is permissible for a candidate like McCain not to denounce Falwell or his beliefs. But, when white Christians hear equally appalling comments from a black preacher, they expect Obama to do more than simply denounce Wright's statements and to erase his past history with Wright or they will refuse to vote for him?

Everyone is entitled to use whatever criteria they wish to decide who they want to vote for in November. But, it concerns me when people have a double standard for deplorable comments from white Christian ministers who are supported by conservative candidates than they do for a black minister supported by Obama. I personally believe that this Wright "scandal" is a scapegoat for certain Americans whose political opinions are aligned with Obama but who have misgivings about having an African American President so that they can explain their decision not to vote for Obama without explicitly saying that they are afraid to support a black man (since that would be deemed racist).

The racism and hate are well rooted here in America. It will take a devine intervention to overcome it all. But all things are possible through God. Good luck Obama

No way. This Wright scandal has doomed Obama's chances in Pennsylvania. The offense caused will be far longer lived than the Obama campaign hopes, and it will continue through the other states.

His 'mentor' of 20 years has cast enough doubt on Obama and his wife's background and patriotism. That plus a skimpy resume will mean most undecideds will drift to Clinton or McCain.

I am not surprised about the double lead HRC has over BO reason;

After the potomac primary in Februrary, PA Gov, said: PA white will not vote for a black man.
the current pastor issue has now given them more reason not to vote for him.

This is a double standard. People should read the following articles on these links:

Cast it!

Boy, are there ever a lot of name callers and racists (yeah, you, white boy) on this discussion thread. If you little white 'boys' had had ancestors who were routinely raped and tortured and lynched then you might have more than an ounce of empathy for your fellow Americans who HAVE lived through and with this legacy. Your white-boy ignorance is insulting to all Americans. Your arguments are nothing more than name calling. Obama is right, there comes a time to turn the corner to a new America, one that owns up to both its goodness and its faults as an 'empire.' So all you white boy empire lovers can go jump on the McCain bandwagon and bang the war drum for conflict with Iran and to keep a "White" (washed) House. That's all you are probably good for anyway.

Well,Jerry I'm glad one of you had the nerve to say what your true feelings are. That since the creation of this great country the white race is feeling intimidated by the chance it might be governed by someone other then themselves. That a true measure of civility, and change will finally penetrate the White House. Its funny that all you critics of Mr. Obama stand to call him a racist because of his affilition with Pastor Wright, but would not dare to look yourselves into the mirror and acknowledge your opposition to Mr. Obama because he is black and for no other reason. What if he did shun Pastor Wright? I have no dought there would be something else for you to hate him for. Change comes from you changing your self attitude, to be able to look at a nation that can progress from what your accustomed too and see everyday. The main focus of his speech has been lost on so many of you its unbelievable. We have been waiting hundreds of years for Whites to understand our plight. Threw violence, peaceful protests, and civil diobedience,we have tried to get your attention, to show the nation and world how frustrated and angry we are about or status and treatment. And slowly more than surely progress has inched forward. Barack Obama is the only source we have to sustain this progress and bring the people of this nation together, as it must be.

I cannot believe people are still captivated by Rev. Wright....this just goes to show how much out of touch white america is with the black communty....sorry....you have be in touch with black america before you can be in touch....WHITE AMERICA HAS NEVER BEEN IN TOUCH WITH BLACK AMERICA....OH...I forgot abut that.....It is interesting that MOST BLACK PEOPLE ARE WELL AWARE THAT HATE IS PREACHED AT SOME WHITE CHURCHES ON SUNDAY, WHICH IS WHY WE DO NOT ATTEND.......Look people....this is customary in most black churches....if you don't believe me go visit one....I dare you.. as a matter of fact I will organize a bus tour for white america to visit black churces....anyone interested...plus I could make a truck load full of money off this deal........Guess who's coming to dinner????

Poster Mark says: "Now what is needed is an in-depth analysis of John McCain's embracing of Rod Parsley, Jerry Falwell, and Pat Robertson""
______________

Why? Have one of these guys served as McCain's pastor, mentor and spiritual advisors for the last 25 years? If so, it's an issue.

Has McCain donated tens of thousands of dollars over the last 25 years to one of these guys to ensure they further their message of diviseness? If so, it's an issue.

But the fact is, it's not an issue for McCain because he has no long-standing personal relationship of supporting these guys.

Obama aligned himself and his family with hate and diviseness for more than two decades. That demonstrates extremely poor judgment and collapses everything Obama postured himself to be.

Obama is a con man. Nothing more.

If what reverend Wright has uttered (most of which is taken out of context anyway) sways or validates anyone's dislike of Obama, then you are among what Bill Maher calls the morons of society. Forget his color, forget what pew he sat in at church and listen to what he says and the conviction he proposes to bring to Washington. Don't listen to him and listen instead to those who want to make this about a pastor and then go vote for more of the same...vote for Billary or Grandpa Munster and then...like Obama said the other day, we'll be having these same distractions four years from now!

Boy, are there ever a lot of name callers and racists (yeah, you, white boy) on this discussion thread. Paulo:

Which event was that??

I find it hard to believe that you would go ANYWHERE that Democrats go.

Plus, all you people calling Obama a racist - please quote ANY time he has said words to that effect. If you base it on what Wright has said, then McCain is anti-Catholic because of Hagee, anti-Mulim because of Parsley, anti-gay and anti-semitic because of Pat Robertson.

Paulo: Please do NOT speak for the Dems of Illinois. I am still 100% behind Obama.

Keith says: "Obama is as close to perfect as you will ever get to a candidate"

Yes, except for that hateful, Black Nationalist thing Obama has wrapped himself in for the last quarter century. LOL

Except for the fact that Obama has a whopping two years of federal experience, most of which he has spent simply posturing for presidency.

Except for the fact that Obama's foreigns relations experience consists solely of calling long distance to talk with his relatives in Kenya (that's foreign relations, right?).

And the list goes on and on.

Sure, Obama is qualified to become the most powerful leader in the world during these especially challenging times. How tough can it be? LOL

I guess the smear tactic worked like a charm. America's going to hell if Obama isn't elected in Nov

Didn't Hillary say she was going to disclose her tax records? Where did that 5 million loan come from?

Didn't she say she fully supported the war and gave GW a big thumbs up?

Didn't she fail already in Health Reform?

Doesn't she fully support the know racist Geradine Ferraro, which has been quickly covered up with this Reverend fabrication.

Should she be respected more for staying with Billy for her own political aspirations, or should she have done the right thing?

Do you Clinton supporters really enjoy scum bag politics as demonstrated by Hillary's campaign??

All my white friends I can see you are still as white as right and you fell into the race card. I can see your hatred and stupid remarks show you know nothing about the black race and will vote for my wife based on the hate we started and the race bias the whites always fall for... Thanks for being so stupid and again letting your fears work in our favor... Now go back to your world and tell me the views of all your friends and co-workers are your views and you go along with every thought from your racist friends. NOW DOES THAT MAKE SENCE... I WOULD EXPECT NOT BUT YOU MADE THE CALL... NOW THERE IS A BLACK FAMILY MOVING IN NEXT DOOR. GUESS IT'S TIME FOR YOU TO MOVE! HUH?

Sharon posted: "The only person running in this election that represents any kind of change is Obama."

Obama is the same, if not worse than any politician today.

A big part of Obama’s contrived sainthood is that he is somehow "above" or "different" from the Washington establishment.

In reality, he's a major player in the web of institutionalized influence-trading that afflicts official Washington. After he was elected, he quickly established a political machine funded and run by a standard Beltway group of lobbyists, P.R. consultants, and hangers-on. For the staff post of policy director he hired Karen Kornbluh, a senior aide to Robert Rubin when the latter, as head of the Treasury Department under Bill Clinton, was a chief advocate for NAFTA and other free-trade policies that decimated the nation’s manufacturing sector (and the organized labor wing of the Democratic Party).

Obama’s top contributors are corporate law and lobbying firms (Kirkland & Ellis and Skadden, Arps, where four attorneys are fund-raisers for Obama as well as donors), Wall Street financial houses (Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Chase), and big Chicago interests (Henry Crown and Company, an investment firm that has stakes in industries ranging from telecommunications to defense).

After he was elected, Obama immediately established a “leadership PAC,” a vehicle through which a member of Congress can contribute to other politicians’ campaigns—and one that political reform groups generally view as a slush fund through which congressional leaders can evade campaign-finance rules while raising their own political profiles.

As John Kass said in the Tribune, "As we wait for Obama to transform our politics, let's hold our breath and see who turns purple first."

The media favors Obama; that is causing lot of problems. Media would not have given a pass to any candidate belonging to any party, if there was this kind of association with a pastor with such nasty views. Wright is wrong to say these things and equally wrong to disappear into oblivion. Media need to ask Wright what the well was he thinking. I agree Obama speech while great in form was a disaster to voters.

If Senator Clinton snatches the nomination away from Senator Obama, she will be seen by the left wing of the party as a gun-less version of James Earl Ray/Sirhan Sirhan---a political thug who assassinated a man's character and killed a dream without firing a shot.

This poll was taken be March 11 to March 15 before his speech. Guarantee a big bounce from the speech. Clinton may still win PA but the nomination is over. To catch him on pledged delegates she has to win 65% of those remaining and to do that she has to win 75% of the vote. Super delegates are not going to overturn the electorate/pledged delegates. Anyone remember Gore v Bush? Too recent in Democratic politics to forget.

Wow. I hope most of you are joking because this is some foolish stuff.
1) As a Catholic MY Church/Priest has said things I find objectionable but I am still a Catholic. Google Revs Billy Graham, Paisley, Haggert, Falwell, Robertson for further examples of hate filled statements from pastors.

2) If you aren't a black person above the age of 40 you need to reflect before you speak. Would you blindly love America "land of the free" if you were them?? Remember that whole compassion/understanding thing in the Bible??

3) Obama has said and done everything I look for in a true leader, president, and more importantly as a PERSON. Should I be judged a criminal because my beloved Uncle is a felon??

Logic and Reason are crazy tools. Please do use them before you talk, type, or vote.

Barack needs to back off and let Clinton move forward. He now has no chance to win the White House.

I liked Obama at first and even voted for him here in IL, but I could never vote for him now under any circumstances. No one is saying that black peopel do not have a right to educate each other on the atrocities that were put on them, but there is a huge jump from that to "white people invented aids to kill black people", or bashing Jews, or saying that America was responsible for Apartheid in SA." When you hear taht kind of ahte spewed and you keep returning and even bringing your 6 and 9 year old daughters to hear such ahte, you are in fact condoning it. I am sorry but Obama will never be elected president now. It would be a huge mistake to nominate him. I think he needs to step aside for the good of the Democratic party. Already his support is dropping.

Look at when the poll was taken, those responses were given before Obama made his unity speech.

We won't know the impact of the speech for probably a few days at least.

Blinkin says: "By the standards of these haters the only conceivable black candidate is one who wants no part of the black community""
__________

Not true at all. The problem is that Obama CHOSE to affiliate himself and his family with the militant, hateful, Black Panther-like, Black Nationalist movement. BIG difference.

This is same as if any of the candidates had aligned themselves for 25 years with, say, Jerry Falwell as their pastor, mentor and spiritual advisor. That candidate would be ripped to shreads -- and rightfully so. Obama deserves no less.

Obama has demonstrated that his profound lack of honesty, character and judgment renders him wholly unfit for the office of the presidency and to serve in the U.S. Senate. Period.

Obama and many others knows JESUS through this pastor So do think it will be easy for Obama to reject someone who show him JESUS? The pastor name is JEREMIAH. What do you expect from him? JEREMIAHS are always anti goverment. By the way, you dont agree with every word that your pastor say except you are a dommy. But you still go to the church because you enjoy it. No two persons have exactly the same view. Everyone is unic. I think Obama is the best candidate, othewise let the family of Clinton and Bush RULE AMERICA FOREVER

For those of you who have been longing to vote your antideluvian racial prejudice, belly up to the bar and srink deeply of the swill that convinces you that you would rather pay taxes to oppress rather than liberate. Yes, congratulate yourselves on your high-minded ideals even as you secretly resent and hate those who are least able to resist your power. What would this country be like without your exemplary moral fortitude?

"...the hateful, anti-American, anti-white, anti-semitic rhetoric of Jeremiah Wright and the Black Nationalist movement?"

Posted by: Ben | March 20, 2008 9:20 AM

Anti-semetic? Where did that come from?

Oh, I get it, you're just trying to be inclusive. I also heard they molested children. No, wait, that was the Catholic priests.

Had affairs? No, that was the white pastors.

Look, people, whatever Wright said is Wright's business. Obama didn't have control over Wright's tongue. And much of what Wright said was true - even if you don't want to accept that version of the truth.

But I'm not surprised. The only black person that white America will accept is one that is, well, actually white.

And, no, don't give me Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan as examples of acceptance. White America distains what Woods is doing to their whites only sport and Jordan made a lot of money for a lot of white folks.

That, really, is Obama's problem. He can't make money for white folks. Neither can any of the white politicians. But until a black candidate can make money for whites, he will never win their collective approval.

I consider myself a Democrat, but if Hillary gets the nomination I'm going 3rd party, or sitting this one out.

GO HILLARY.........YOUR THE WINNER....Obama is toast...radical muslim.

How many Americans was hoodwinked for voting for Bush for 2 terms? The same that will be crying and complaining about McCann when he's elected? Patriotic? America did a lot of crap before the Civil Rights Movement that was call Patriotic. Once again it sounds like we can't handle the truth regarding our great country pass and present just like the republicans are doing now with Iraq. I just want a President that will make this country better for everyone.Don't stop striving Obama and Clinton... America needs you!

It is quite obvious from the posts above that we are definitely racially divided in this country. Or to say it a nice way, there are quite alot of racists walking the streets. Deny as you will, but there is a definite double standard in this country and I can tell you it is not to the benefit of any African American. For the record, I am a white male and consider myself quite moderate, and certainly smart enough to see through this BS with Reverend Wright. Sadly, I can't say that for many of the posters above led by Jerry and Keith the Southside racist. For all you Hillary supporters relishing in this, how does it feel to be a republican? Good luck with John McCain. We’ll be screwed for atleast four more years.

All this negativity truly depicts how much racism still exists in white, rural America. The better contingent of this nation that wants progress will not let the close-minded hold us back anymore. Base your decisions on intelligence, not fear.

WE NEED OBAMA IN 2008!

McCain too old? Have you seen the guy's mother? The idea that one instance of misspeaking on Iraq somehow constitutes proof that McCain "needs help" to keep things straight is wrong-headed and agist.

I am tired of hearing about all of this stuff already. That blow hard preacher of Obama's is hurting him.

I wonder who has the greater numbers... democrats that vehemently hate either hilary or obama- or democrats that hate McCain. I'm no republican and I won't vote for McCain, but I don't hate the guy. What is sad is that I admittedly hate Hilary as much as some of these posting claim to hate Obama. I feel she has ruined the party's chances with this polarizing campaign because I and many Obama supporters I know are swaying to the opinion that "I would vote for McCain or Ron Paul before I would ever consider voting for this slimy, 'ends justify the means' sort of candidate like Hilary".

Like most people there are things about myself that I would change if I could. Two things that I would definitely not change are my skin color, or the era that I now live in. I am not a celebrity or some young politician in the making. I am a soon to be 25 year old African American male from Detroit, Michigan, currently residing in suburban Atlanta, Georgia. I have seen my hometown crumble before my eyes under the strain of flawed free trade policies, and corporate greed. Both of which have crippled the ability of American workers to earn decent employment opportunities. I have also seen billions of dollars wasted by an administration that cares less about people, and more about oil profits and the opportunity to rule the world with its iron fist of democracy. This is my America and I am proud to be American, but not proud of the way America conducts itself. It is foolish if we believe that the rest of the world loves us as much as we love ourselves. In my opinion, Jeremiah Wright is not racist at all, or just another old man bitter at the United States for its past indiscretions. He simply told the truth about how this country really operates. To the black community, this is no secret even to a young man such as myself. Barack Obama did what he had to do in this tough situation. If he bowed to conservatives and disrespected Rev. Wright, he risked alienating his black base. On the other side, if he agreed with the controversial statements, he risked losing the support of many whites in this country that have supported him up until this point. He played it off well by condemning the statements by Wright and at the same time not condemning the individual. In the same manner as the Louis Farrakhan situation last month, Barack took a solid hit on the chin from both his critics and the media. Most blacks in America understand that he has rules to follow in order to be able to play ball. I hope that both ministers Farrakhan and Wright understand that it is nothing personal against them, just the cost of doing business when running for President. I for one just hope he keeps his focus on the prize ahead and slides home safely with victories in August and more importantly November 2008.

It really sickens me to read and listen to all this rhetoric regarding Obama, Wright and the Church. Clearly, there is double-standard. Just tell me exactly what was it that you, Obama Haters, wanted him to do? Go on national television and totally disrespect the black community, the Pastor and the Church because that's what YOU feel he needs to do to make you feel comfortable and at ease? GIVE ME A BREAK! The man was brave enough to address the issue of race and tried to give America insight into what takes place inside of a black Church and tried to get you haters to have an open mind and try to understand why the man said what he said. It doesn't mean that Obama agreed with them.. heck.. I cringed when I heard the Got D--- America line...and I'm a African-American. But it does not mean those are his views as he stated. YOu guys are the pure example of what he spoke about the other day. You say you want equality and a fair and equal America but in actuality you don't! Just listen to you. I don't recall anyone demanding Hillary to leave Bill when he was sleeping with the interns? I don't recall there ever being an outcry to denounce and reject the Priests and the Catholic Church for backing and hiding all of the sexual abuse that was going on. Did you leave your Church's when this happened or have you left.. because that still continues. To put it simply.. If Barack had not announced his candidacy for President a year ago, I'm sure that I, along with the general consensus of the black population would have backed Hillary. And, if this race was free of all of the racist remarks and undertones that have leaked out of the Billary camp, which by the way, she initiated in the first place... we African American's probably would have voted for her IF Obama lost fairly and evenly across the board. BUT as a result of the ignorance, hidden racism, unfair treatment and clearly the DOUBLE-STANDARD of the community, if Billary does receive the nomination from this mess that i'm sure she's behind, guess what? I can assure you that I, along with the other millions that did vote for him, will undoubtedly NOT VOTE FOR HER IN NOVEMBER AND IN MOST CASES, NOT VOTE AT ALL!! If you guys want to cheat and steal the election away from him because of the Wright issue .. Billary will never get his followers. So you guys can Go Billary all you want... even if Obama wins.. she's a loser and if he loses.. SHE's still a loser. Go figure. She might be up in the polls now because the media won't let it go but She has clearly lost the respect of the Black community and we will never back her the way we once did. So basically she's lost all around. In closing, can i just say.. if Obama loses... Billary and her followers just handed the Presidency over to John McCain. Now how dumb is that?

I voted for Obama in IL and now I deeply regret my vote. I think what my fellow Obama supporters are not understanding is that there is a big difference between lecturing on the injustices towards blacks in America and saying that White people started AIDS to kill blacks, or bashing Jews, or blaming America for Aparthied. When Obama heard these comments repeatedly and still returnded to the church he was in fact condining them. Even worse than that is briningin his children to hear such hatefule rhetoric. I can never vote for this man again under any circumstances. He can not win the G/E now and he needs to step aside for the good of the party. He is already losing a lot of support.

paulo: whoever you are, methinks you fabricate alot of what you say is true....Your spelling, grammar, and manner of speaking belie someone with much less access to the events and facts that you often declare an intimate knowledge of.....Sorry, bud, but I call it the way I see it.

It's great to feel the momentum finally swinging back to Hillary. Both America and the world are ready for America's first female president. She's competent, capable, and respectable.

Obama with his flash-in-the-pan come-from-nowhere barrage of rhetoric had me worried there for the past two months, but it's great to see him losing steam - even if the press is still tripping over themselves to fall at his feet and praise his "words".

Go Hillary!

Firewalls aren't made of fire. They don't burn hotter if they are better.

How come no one chose to tar and feather the christian right when Jerry Fallwell and Pat Robertson insinuated that 911 was brought upon us because of our tolerance of homsexuality? I don't subscribed to this nonsense any more than I do the trash spewed by Jeramiah Wright! But for some reason, associating with nazi-esque, christian loons is acceptable for christian right associated conservatives, while a black liberal's association with a radical black religious loon is a mortal sin. I think this is a horrific double standard.

I am a fundamentally conservative white male who will continue support Obama despite his past affiliation with Wright. Many conservatives, McCain included, both affiliate with and accept endorsements from christian right religious leaders whose rhetoric is no less hateful and intolerant.

Intelligence, smart foreign policy, and end to a war that is bankrupting our country, are things that have been absent from my party's leadership for the past 8 years. That is why this time, I vote by the character and talent of the man versus party loyalty, and fully support Obama!

The Obama poll numbers are now down in North Carolina as well.

I find it amusing that the Obama enthusiasts have now taken to blaming the news media for their candidate's apparent downward spiral.

This after Obama had been treated with kid gloves, if not outright fawning, by the news media up to this point in his brief political career.

Even with its leftward bias, did the Obama acolytes really expect the media to turn a blind eye to, or to sugarcoat the Rezko and Jeremiah Wright affairs?

Did anybody actually WATCH his speech? Sadly it seems that most are all too focused on the sound bites and YouTube clips that the media has used to raise chatter and profit from this story. I swear, people are so easily distracted. Hillary Clinton brings shame to the democratic party with her mud-slinging and silly political games. I'm heart broken by this recent poll, I've lost so much faith in people's ability to sift through the garbage.

I am a registered Black Republican who until recently was not even interested in the candidates in either party this election. I thought McCain was too old and I definitely couldn't in good conscience support the Democratic nominees because they are both card carrying prototypical liberals! One other observation of my life during Democratic administrations has been that of having no REAL money. Our family truly suffers financially under the Democrats who feel anyone making over $100, 000 is rich. They tax us to death and we lose ground all under their guise of social reform that never comes. I want the freedom to make my own decisions on health care and other issues which affect me personally. The government should NOT have the right to mandate whether a person participates in the health care system or how their own children should be educated or any other issues involving private life. Therefore, the control freak Democrats need to remain OUT OF THE WHITE HOUSE forever!

The recently media attention given to the controversial, incendiary and racist statements made by Rev. Jeremiah Wright are well known to other Black Christians living in the Chicago area. I am sure that these sermons do NOT align with the messages of love and hope given by Christ. I also am sure that what Christ taught is incompatible with what we, as Americans, have embraced as the "Black Church" and “White Church” The Church is supposed to be one united in Christ and this message of division is not part of the true Gospel. If nothing else, Obama is guilty of extremely poor judgment in aligning himself with Trinity, a church well known within our community for it’s Afrocentric hate filled divisive sermons.

McCain will easily win this election, thank goodness...

Again, I agree with those who say Obama is not responsible for what his pastor says and does. If that is the case, then every church member should check over their pastor's sermons to see what they need to change to what they want or may think is inappropriate. I have been in churches where I have heard pastors say this religious group will not go to Heaven or that group of people are automatically going to hell. I may not agree with that pastor, but who am I to say he does not have the right to say it? I am not responsible for his words. Also, is this a good way of pointing out separation of church and government? But using the words of Pastor Wright against Senator Obama is no different than using the antics of past President Clinton to Senator H. Clinton. People can say if you cannot control what your husband does or did, then how can you control the government? and that is wrong too. Let people be responsible for their own actions. I look at what the candidates can do for our country...not what others say. I do not agree with a lot of Clinton's ideas of health care and foreign policy based on past things that she has said. Go Obama! Oh by the way, I am a white female. And that should not matter either.

Unfortunately, as with all politics, we see what we want to see. What I see is an intelligent, thoughtful person of mixed race who understands both sides of what is probably the most important social issue in this country. I agree that it would be better if people like Rev. Wright could be more responsible or that Senator Obama had been able to repudiate him earlier. However, I take what Senator Obama said at face value--his love and revulsion for his black pastor and his white grandmother are equivalent and they make total repudiation difficult. Those of you who want to use this dismiss (or worse) Senator Obama are missing a much greater point. Here is a man with a brain, with a heart and with the courage to address difficult issues head-on. Isn't that what we need and isn't that what we have been missing?

I'm glad people may finally be waking up to the real Obama. I hope its not too late. Everyone seems to want "change" right now. I don't believe however, they will be happy with the change to an ultra liberal, even bigger than we have now, government. The backup QB on a football team is usually very popular, until he gets a chance to play and people see what he is really capable of. Right now Obama is that backup QB.

A few observations about the comments by the Rev. Wright.
1ST -- These racist remarks were NOT uttered by Barak Obama, they were made by the now FORMER leader of his church!
2ND -- EVERYONE needs to remember the 1ST AMENDMENT -- THE RIGHT OF *F R E E* SPEECH !
HOW often have you heard comments by YOUR Pastor, Priest, Reverend or Rabbi, and also NOT agreed with what they had to say. This does NOT Make YOU responsible for what THEY had to say.

LETS at least TRY And LOOK PAST the issues of RACE -- and GENDER -- and *TRY* to focus and judge the candidates on their positions on the *REAL* issues and problems we face.

We have REAL ISSUES, and REAL PROBLEMS that need solving, and we need a
*NEW DIRECTION*
to get us to those solutions. As voters and citizens of this great country,
Can we *P L E A S E* keep our eye on the ball!

What I find most amusing is that most people who say they are for Obama don't even know how to spell his first name. George K for one.

CALLING ALL DEMOCRATS!! Lets's stop the childish finger pointing and get back to the issues of America please!! This snickering about who said what and did what is just the type of stuff that takes our minds off the REAL ISSUES going on in America! Rev. Wright's comments were VERY careless. But I dont think Barack needs to address it anymore! How long does he need to kiss up to the Pro-Hillary Dems for another man's words? He said his pastor was wrong for saying them! THE END! Democrats are tearing each other apart. Lets focus on getting out of IRAQ, my cousins have been Murdered over there! And here we sit, bickering over 1100 page papers and what some ex-pastor said way back when....Lets back our democratic leaders! Or am I the only one that can see past the B.S.?

Well, 5 weeks to go till Pennsyvlania and every poll so far in this race has been wrong. I'd take it with a grain of salt. But even so, Pennsyvlania isn't going to decide anything at all. PS Half the people on this page are Republicans anyway.

I attended Trinity when living in chicago and beleive me they had to search thru a lot of sermons to come up with the ones they show over and over. I challenge anyone to do they're own research black and white. I will guarantee the media is showing a very distorted view of the man. Do your own homework and don't let the media just spoon feed you. I have friends of all ethnic groups and it's either you are like family or you are not. I am african american and I am invited to have easter dinner at my friend's inlaws who just happen to be italian and our friend who happens to be puerto rican will be there also. We are truly close and have shared many things including topics on racism in america. We have been out and seen the ignorance of it. I make this point because I would have never attended a church had I felt it taught hate. There is a difference between teaching hate and speaking out on injustice.

There is a very real chance Clinton can catch Obama now. His white support has evaporated since his admission that he had heard racist statements from Jeremiah Wright in his pew in church and did nothing about them. His attempt to deflect the issue has not met with the universal acceptance Frank James wanted it to and has rather exacerbated the flight of Obama's white supporters.

The latest numbers have to bolster Clinton and a big win in Pennsylvania could allow her to carry some primaries she previously would not have won.

Go Hillary stomp the racist. We need you to win. This OBAMA spells big trouble for our country. He has the same hatred as Wright that's why he kept going back to hear more and more. Everything about Obama is racist. He couldn't connect with his own Mother because she was white. That is sick!

Wel thanks to Hill and Bill for getting McCain elected. If Obama isn't the nominee I and about 25% of Obama's supporters will vote McCain. 50-70% will not vote at all. So Hill better make sure every big state votes for her because none of the small states will.

You Americans are idiots.

Vote for Hillary and you'll put another power monger in power who will be the whore of special interests and continue to bring down what was once the greatest country in the world. It's shocking how much of an opportunist she is and how little she cares about America.

Obama is seriously your only hope of ever fixing this mess of a country.

GAB=racist idiot.

Obama has his sheep and church members on here trying to save his butt. I'm deaf to anything he this smooth talking racist has to say. He is the one that did this to himself. Get over it. he is damaged goods. Wright isn't a family member but he so greatly agrees with him he can't stop going to that awful so called church. Our church has all nationalities and all are welcomed with open arms and love. This is truly an eye opener. These racists just won't let it go still about slavery. Obama's speech trying to compare Imus and Farraro is a joke. He is trying to still say that what they did was as bad as Wright??? He is disgusting. He needs to step down as a senator and pull out of this race. he cannot win. Americans love our country. It's the best country on earth. Obama wants to change this country to the views of Wright. We cannot let this happen!!!

Those of you who keep asking why has Sen. Obama contributed so much money to Trinity UCC if he didn't believe in what Rev. Wright was saying are obviously not familiar with the concept of tithing. For those who don't know, in the Bible is says that God is owed his 10%. Think about what he and his wife make as attorneys, I think $25,000 comes out to about 25%. Make sure you have your information correct before you comment.

the script has been written since the beginning. they just give audience to OBAMA to make the all thing appear acceptable and show that hillary is a strong candidate who overcome a strong candidate. we have seen the kind before. remember this aaahhhhh stuff of Dean. Dean was not chosen by the elite but by the people. they destroy his image and give him the head of the democratic party as a consolation. he knew from the beginning he has to loose. the same thing happened with the good kerry. but he knew he has to loose to. barrack knows is has to loose.

they try nafta. he win. they try resko and he still win. now jeremiah. what about hillary. hillary and his husband we all know go to bed with resko. they go to bed with rich but who care now.

all this is staged.you have to realize this.

Y'know, I think what's lost in all this is the fact that America, despite it's shortcomings, is one of the most tolerant nations in the world. Given that we have so many people from so many different backgrounds here it's absolutely amazing how well we're doing. This whole race thing is a canard - we're being distracted from the very real economic and governmental issues that none of these candidates want to address.

I'm disgusted with American Politics; particularly, the way the media has decided for the voters who to vote for by their coverage of negatives of all the candidates. I mean instead of being beholden to the American People; or the corporations( as many candidate's expouse), the Media, is the one entity that politicians/candidates must "bribe" to not run divisive/negative half-truth stories that can make or break a candidate.

In other words, I think most fair-minded Americans believe Barrack Obama to be a honorable man who would be good for this country; and, while they may not find the connection with the church he attends/the pastor's comments pleasing; they are smart enough to not say this is Obama's philosphy; because, Obama for the last 12 months has been telling us who he is. His State Legislative and U.S. Senate record does not indicate nothing more than he is a honorable man. However, the Rezo, and Rev., Wright is clearly not the man; yet, the Right wing is making it more than it is; but, the media is the one who has tried to ruin Obama's candidacy. It is obvious and I don't think I'm voting in this election. This is not America, this is Russia.

From reading the posts here, I must just assmue that if Obama wins, he will be the first racist in the WH. Yeah, I didn't thinks so. Why is white America scared of this man, when it is clear that he understands both sides of his racial heritage. If HRC wins the nomination, it will be just another setback for our country, because McClain will win in November.

wow - those of you who are enjoying this smear campaign - rolling around in it like a pig in muck - are truly disgusting. Have you looked into any of this yourselves or have you just been relying on what the media feeds you?

Did you watch Obama's speech? It makes me so sad that so many of you seem to be part of the problem. Think for yourselves, people.

We Need Obama as our next President.

The dam has burst and it's once again OK to be racist and uncivil and partisan and petty in America.

Thank god. We've had too much niceness that's durn sure.

I feel this country needs Obama. We need a real leader who can inspire people and who doesn't have a lot of political baggage. I have little respect for Hillary. Being immersed in politics for so long just means she owes more favors and knows how to play the game in the same old way that has gotten us into this mess. I am a grandmother and am suppose to be in the age group of women that supports Hillary. I want to scream,"NO, I'M SMARTER THAN THAT!" I find her abrasive, willing to say or do anything to get elected and definitely not someone who would play well on the world stage. We need someone strong who can garner respect from countries and leaders around the world. Obama is that leader.

To all of you outraged whites who have suffered so much from the institutionalized racism that so premeates American society, you may now return to Sean Hannity and Bill O'Really(?) for your own special interpretation of the Obama "crisis".

For all of you who are making your opinions known about Rev. Wright, I'd like to know how many of you have seen the ENTIRE sermon? I'm sure the majority haven't. This is one of the main reasons this country is a joke. This election is for the intelligent voter who isn't influenced by a thrid party.

All the anti-Obama, and the Polls showing White voters rescinding their vote for Obama and all the non-stop negative hateful radio, televison and print anti-Obama message is telling ever African-American in this country that: The very best and brightest of the Black Community will be rejected, marginalized and reduced to a Barry Bonds, O.J. Simpson figure of white imaginational fears. And don't think this want have blacks saying perhaps Rev. Wright was right about this country and white people. I think whites could win a lot of Healing of the races if they would do like Black's are doing and dismiss this unreasonable assumption that Rev. Wright's words and Obamas are the same message. It's not and I think everyone with common sense knows that this is Media biases. Another fissure will be created in the divide of the Races in this country. Thanks to the media.

You know what these numbers make me think?

OBAMA for PRESIDENT!

:)

The Clinton presidency was much better for me financially than the Bush years. So I just do not understand all the negativity regarding those years. Also, Sharon, please explain how the actions of the Clintons defeated Gore.

After listening and seeing all the sordid stories about muggings and murders on various news sources-- have you ever had that question go through your head, “How many friends and former associates do I know that have died, been murdered, or have just disappeared?” Many of us would probably respond with, “Oh, 2, 3 maybe even 4.” Some, unfortunately, have experienced more...but how about the Clintons?

Someone ought to ask Bill & Hillary Clinton, right on national TV—in fact, during a political debate—why it is that the Clintons have so many dead friends and associates. (See: http://tinyurl.com/396aw).

Better yet, I think Obama ought to be the one to do the asking! That’d make her stutter and get some of the spotlight off of him and his, er, not-so-reverend pastor! While he’s at it he could even ask her if she plans to turn the White House into the “Flop House” that it was during the ‘90s when the Lincoln bedroom was sold a zillion times over.

Of course, all that it cost us taxpayers was just a “few little favors”--remember that guy, Kenneth Lay, the #1 thief at ENRON, he slept there often!

Humm, good time for hardball? I’d even stay up late to watch the reruns!

Yeah. It is too bad that we can't have a revote because after watching those videos of Reverend Wright, there are alot of Americans who would like to recast their vote - against Obama. The man is a weasel. Rather than address the Reverend, he shrugged it off as a function of slavery and Jim Crow. Well the good Reverend grew up in Pennsylvania so he didn't grow up under Jim Crow and unless he is much older than he looks, he didn't experience slavery either.

The fact that Obama turned the question of Wright into a blame whitey session, and a blame my white grandma session tells us what to expect from an Obama Presidency. 24 hour race-baiting and blaming white people.

Thanks but no thanks.

And a man who insists Imus be fired for his one statement and that Trett Lott be relieved of his Majority position because he made an offhand comment at Strom Thurmond's birthday should have walked out of the parish 20 years ago and never looked back. Instead, the hypocrite that he is, brought his little children to the church and let them absorb this hatred. So if you don't want your daughters hearing racist stuff from Imus, why is it ok if it is from Wright? Are you raising your daughters to be as angry and resentful as their mother.

Obama can't win. I don't want a black nationalist in office. And Monday's speech, despite the press' best efforts to pretend otherwise, tells me that Obama's sole mantra is "blame whitey."

The Wright controversy has legs because it is another data point in a pattern of statements and actions that make Obama seem anti-American. It also raises the issue of judgment, which is all the more important for candidates with short resumés such as Obama's.

The knee-jerk reaction of some Obama supporters to attribute these legitimate doubts to racism lowers our public discourse and flies in the face of the very message of unity their candidate claims to espouse.

Vinnie, you knucklehead. You wrote, "Looks like peopel are not buying his lame speech to explain why he attended a hate mongers church for 20 years. That scandal ruined Obama. He will never win now."

The poll cited was taken March 11-16. The speech was, of course, later.

Obama's association with Wright's anti-American views does not fill me with confidence at this ability to represent this country. There may be some truth in some of what Wright said, but he took it way to the extreme.
The man who would be our Commander in Chief, negotiate trade deals and represent us should not be associate with such strong anti-American view.

The right to free speech doesn't mean others have to agree or vote in agreement with the speech.

While I would not leave a church or minister over small disagreements, I would leave a church if it was a big disagreement. This is big, especially for a Presidential candidate, considering the very anti-American rhetoric.

Yes, there are racists in the US on both sides. Its our desire that we not have a President that finds it acceptable. Obama chose to be close to this person.

Give it up you doufess, Kris. Are you really dumb enough to think that between Hillary and Bill that they are not wealthy enough to cover a measley 5 mil.

Beyond the fact that Hillary's a woman, is not African-American, and the misplaced nostalgia for Bill Clinton or outright misperception that he would be the one who's really running the show, I cannot understand the appeal of Hillary.

She will mobilize Republicans and the religious right, kill the growing youth and African-American vote, and advocate partisan fighting over bi-partisan progress (sure, she will fight, but to what end?).

She also will say or do anything to get elected, regardless of whether it is a complete contradiction to her previous statements (January 2008: Michigan and Florida are irrelevant; March 2008: to not count Michigan and Florida is un-American), stealing other candidate's themes ("Yes We Will?"), or damaging the likelihood of the Democrats taking the White House in order to increase her ever-slimming chance to become the nominee (the Republican candidate passes the "commander in chief" test, but the leader of her own party's race does not?).

I began on the fence in this. But Clinton's contradictions and win-at-all-costs mentality have killed me. She's the "experience" candidate who just found her own voice?--you get one or the other.

I began running from Hillary, but since this has become a two-candidate race have been running toward Obama. They are on the level in intelligence. He beats her in time in office. He beats her in message. He beats her in connecting with people. He is not riding the coattails of a famous spouse.

The Hillary-supporters who are reading this are set on their candidate: (a) voting for a woman, but not the right woman, (b) voting for a Clinton, but not the right Clinton, or (c) voting on some other basis, they don't want to acknowledge. I am hopeful that, at least in Illinois, it's mostly the first two.

There are two reasons to vote for Hillary Clinton, if you're a white, blue collar worker. Either you think she and Bill are interchangeable or you aren't ready for an African-American in office. Otherwise, why would "working people" support Hillary over Barack? What record does she have that makes her "Dunkin' Donuts" candidate over Obama--other than her husband's?

The whole thing has me mystified.

Did the detractors manage to watch the speech in its entirety? Or was that too long and boring compared to the snappy, exciting soundbytes of both Obama and his pastor which are on youtube and tv? Those are not just more exciting, they are so much more convenient I gather, "just the good bits, the shocking bits, all you need" when your schedule is busy busy or you only require to reassure yourself of your already held opinion. Is a 37 minute nuanced speech really just too complicated to grasp? It kind of sounds like this is a possibility. Or, perhaps it's that discussing race at all just commonly elicits alarm responses and discomfort- so we can't discuss it in mixed company as we need to- we just whisper with others with backgrounds close to our own. It's kneejerk reaction inducing- definately. Business as usual continues. Oh the out of context pastor quotes are a goldmine for anyone who wanted more proof that blacks are this or that. And as for slavery- as a white person I can only try to imagine how that legacy must feel for a black person, why it matters over a hundred years after abolition- it's not my experience. I wish we could just forget race even exists, why why can't we. It's admittedly been easy to suspect that "slavery" is being overused as an excuse or justification for all kinds of anger and entitlement-- after all, we are all technically equal now. Technically, perhaps. After hearing this moving and informative speech, I think I'm starting to "get it" more genuinely. I can respect now where the pastor is coming from, even though I'm still not so sure I'd be comfortable meeting him. I've been reminded of how things were as the pastor grew up, and I know how one's life experiences shape one's views and attitudes. I am sure I am not the only one with this experience, of some illumination. Definately, Obama's talk described lucidly why the pastor felt or feels as he does, and why he wont denounce the pastor. Who would denounce say, an elderly relative who makes occasional racist or sexist remarks that are relics and cultural norms from another era? Same dynamic here. Obama was saying, "yes, my pastor is angry sometimes, he said those things- here is some context to help you understand why he did this. He's also got a lot of good qualities". But he could not have done a better job of explaining why he thinks the pastor's approach is sometimes off. Obama tried to lay some groundwork to get a dialogue going between black and white by publically saying some things that we are not used to hearing in public- but need to. That's very brave, very impressive. Those used to exclusively white company might especially be in a state of shock, I imagine. The overarching message of the speech was one of unity, much as in "let's try to understand why there is bitterness on both sides, and where it is coming from, so that we can better move on, or at least start the process of moving on, to true unity as Americans." You can't do that by watching or reading microclips. I can't get over how some understood this speech to be hateful, racist, or anti-American in any possible way. That's why I must conclude that they either didn't see it, or that they were not paying attention with open ears and minds. Yes, he's a skilled orator- but that isn't synonymous with "slick"- we are just unused to speakers who are actually articulate. And personally, I used to like Hillary, but now her campaign message seems all about putting a woman in the White House by any means necessary, to allow Hillary to fulfill her fantasy career objective, end of story.

The entire speech can be seen on the New York Times site, or youtube, for those who might want to make another attempt. They've also got a transcript of it on the Times site. I understand that the Trinity Church is welcoming of visitors, too.

McCain's Church Hates America, Clinton's Friends Do Too -- But Let's Get the Black Guy (Or Not?)

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/frank-schaeffer/mccains-church-hates-ame_b_92140.html

Some interesting perspectives from a former preacher to the right whose father spoke similar incendiary remarks in the 80's but was nonetheless lauded by Reagan and other members of the Republican Party.

Bill Maher aptly described Barak as the Jackie Robinson of the political era and he was absolutely right. This is BY FAR, the best man for the job. Ignorant Clinton supporters don't realize that she is not going anywhere and are hell bent on supporting her regardless. And they will be shocked when Mc-SAME defeats her. But they will deserve that utter defeat because like her - their choice is a SELFISH one. And to the ladies that are working to turn Obama into the BLACK candidate so that WHITE people will vote against him will taste the sting of that same BIAS when Mc-SAME uses the same strategy to make the people AFRAID of "TOUCH-AND-FEEL-BILL", the ONLY President to BE IMPEACHED in US history. Now go on out and vote on that...

Yes, the freedom of speech applies to everyone--including Black Churches but we as American's don't or should not condone preaching hatred and anti-American sentiment. I have heard other pastors preaching hatred but I would not support them, get married, baptise my children and be a member of that particular church for 20 or so odd years. Especially, if I was running for the Presidency of the U.S.A.
The point is it does not matter if Jeremiah Wright is rascist or not! Wright is a spiritual leader in the community and Obama supported Wright for 20 years plus and it definitely appears he would condone this anti-American and rascist remarks.

The virulent and strident anti-Obama commentators here should really read Mary Mitchell's column today (3/20) in the competing newspaper. It will give you some perspective that your point of view is narrow and so very, very white. That whites convince themselves how black angst over treatment by the dominant society is instead black racism against them is curious. That a renowned black minister speaks out against our being dissed and called the N word, and complains about not having every advantage and political advantage afforded to whites here in America is curious.

Could what he said possibly be true?
Well, I'm a black professional and have trouble flagging down a cab ride in downtown Chicago sometimes in a suit and tie. Job interviews turn sour the moment I show up black. In my hard-earned luxury sports car, I'm stopped while driving black. Then there are the countless snide racial remarks and clearly biased comments that whites make, sometimes sub-consciously.

But no...having someone speak out against those kinds of things is wrong and scary to you. Maybe it's because you're indifferent to the plights of others and take your privileges and advantages for granted as a birth right. You should probably stop reading this and listen to Rush Limbaugh more to reaffirm of your point of view.

I am a member of Trinity United Church of Christ. I have been a member for 30 years. I love my church and our former pastor Reverend Jeremiah Wright.

It's amazing to me how people use anything they want to validate not voting for Obama. I wish all of you would see and hear the complete sermons for the sound bites you are listening to. I was there on 9/16/01. The sermon was not anything like what you make it out to be.

I would not have used the same words that Reverend Wright said, but that's him. The church was packed and people were scared. He basically said that America acts like it's the supreme country and we look down on everybody else. Why is it always "God bless America" and we never say stuff like "God bless Africa/India/Russia" That's not the exact words, but that's the gist of it.

Reverend Wright has said some things that I don't always agree with, but a lot of the stuff he says is true. He is about 7 years younger than my mother. My parents and probably Rev. Wright have lived through some treatment that quite frankly I would have probably not tolerated.

Most black people attend church to hear the word of God preached, but also to find hope and comfort in a world that still is NOT equal. Does that mean that I hate white people? No. It does mean that I have seen and experienced racism.

Obama is a member of a Christian church that accepts all members, black, white, asian, gay, straight, etc. I want a president who can represent all people not just the same old thing again.

be able to read a speech on a teleprompter as good as anyone since Ronald Reagan. So, for many of us, it's not that we didn't hear the whole speech; it is that we just don't believe him anymore.Hey Fred,, have you check out the prez... Mr. DimWit and his speech giving skills.

Spying on a church....How very interesting.

The media will go to any length to tarnish viable candidates. Obviously, Obama is so clean that he can only be tarnished by association.

How's about focusing on the real issues. I will not allow the media to elect my President for me.

Obama all the way!

As a regular church-goer, my wife (accompanied occasionally by me)has been subjected to more hate-speech in the past 20 years than I would care to hear in a lifetime. Rants against non-believers, believers of other faiths, women, gays, etc.; all from the pulpit, mind you. If I attended more often I'm sure we could throw "race" (whatever that means any more) into the mix. That doesn't reflect my wife's views any more than it does mine. (Are all Catholics pro-life? Are all Jews militant Zionists?)

As for Sen. Clinton I could have easily supported her based on her bona fides and must confess considerable nostalgia for what the Onion called our "Long nightmare of peace & prosperity" ending when Al Gore (with a victory all but handed him by Ms. Clinton's husband) let the 2000 election be stolen right from underneath him. But I can't get past the churlishness of the Clintons' slash & burn campaign style. They have successfully forced Sen. Obama to run as "the black candidate", which Ms. Ferraro notwithstanding is not an advantage in this country. I'd hope my fellow citizens would be sophisticated enough to see through this, but judging from these posts, apparently not. So rather than lose to the only remaining candidate in the race with fresh-ideas, the only public figure since Dr. King who might help us put centuries of racism behind us, they'd risk subjecting us to four more years of squandering blood and treasure abroad.

As "the black candidate", Sen. Obama can't win the presidency.

By exposing her true nature with this sort of "win at all costs" disregard for her party, country and race (the human race), Sen. Clinton does not deserve to win.

Between Barack and a hard place (Iraq) indeed.

This is so sad. You are proving that America is still racist by your comments. There have been many right wing speeches by the religious right. Who have denounced many other religions, creeds, etc. Why is it okay for "white" free speech when its extreme but not "black". Supporters of McCain, Huckabee, and Bush have all been very zealous with their speeches. But that doesnt make news. But a Black zealous preacher is now a huge issue. Wake up America, you are doing exactly what Jeremiah Wright was preaching about. Your onesidedness is why people listen to Jeremiah Wright in the first place. You are proving him RIGHT, not wrong. If you'd look at Obama as a man first, you would see what kind of person he is. He is going to make an excellent president, one of the absolute best. And I hope you dont destroy our future with your prejudices and "white privelege mentality". Thinking that if its extreme and white, its okay, if its extreme and black, its a huge problem. THAt is racist.

If Obama loses because of this, it proves that America is a racist nation. More than that, it proves that America has no interest in overcoming its racism. If he loses, there is truly no end in sight.

Please stop the hypocrisy and feigned outrage. I've read the comments posted over the last week and I am ASHAMED of some of my fellow Americans. Some of you keep quoting that Rev. Wright has been Sen. Obama's spriritual leader for 20 years and he listened to his hate for all of this time. HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT REV. WRIGHT WAS PREACHING IF YOU WERE NOT THERE? Are you basing this conclusion on the 15 sec snippets splattered across the news as a basis and not the man's career as a whole. From the posts we are all adults, & I know the majority of the adults with common sense make an informed and researched decision before coming to conclusions. How many of you know for sure Rev. Wright spewed these type of "Anti-American" sermons every Sunday? How many of you have researched Rev. Wright's sermons over the last years? How many of you have downloaded or purchased a full sermon vs the snippets displayed on You-Tube? Come on people, grow up and act like adults instead of children depending on hear-say. I must also add that I am in no way agreeing with the sentiments expressed by Rev. Wright, some disturbed me, but you CAN NOT judge a man by a few snippets no matter how disturbing they are & you can not judge a man by his pastor's words.

With her constant attacks on Obama, Hillary has only succeeded in losing the election for the Democratic party. She is short sighted and is clearly only in it for selfish reasons and does not care about our party. Shame shame shame.

Because of her divisive campaign, I am afraid that there are only two possible outcomes.

1) Obama will win the primary and enough Hillary supporters will not vote and McCain will win.

2) Hillary will win the primary and enough Obama supporters will not vote and McCain will win.

McCain cannot possibly be as bad as Bush so it'll probably be okay for America.

obama has not done anything when he was in illinois and has not done anything since he was a u.s. senator .. so why again are they voting for him? i will stay away from the democrats this time.

Equal playing field is all I asked about the press, to extol the virtues of Mr Obama while at the same time to expose him for what he represents.

To me, Mr Obama is a "well done" political opportunist, gifted with pied piper oratory and enough skills to hoodwink Oprah and other luminaries to set him up in a pedestal not to be criticized and taken critically in a sort of "suspension of disbelief" approach as far as Obama is concerned.

Now, we really have an "informed choice".

I can rest, satisfied with a democratic process, knowing that all the candidates have been fully vetted for who and what they are, and can accept whatever decision we make, as a country, who we elect to the White House.

God Bless Us!!!

What about the issues? Who was against the war in Iraq from the gate? Who is for revitalizing our economy? (Yeah, we're in a recesion) Who is for universal healthcare? Who has given people hope, and has people coming out to vote in the primary elections like no other? OBAMA. Let's look at issues. Do you agree with everything YOUR pastor, rabbi or any other spiritual leader has to say? I know I don't. Freedom of speech, does that exist still? or did it go the way of habeas corpus?

Come on! every American know we are divided here! USA can get there if we can all accept each other and stop the HATE. That is what OBAMA stands for.. a change. And yes, we can!

Personally, as a Republican from Wisconsin stuck in Ohio, I would like to ask die hard Democrats one question. WHERE were you when the other 8 candidates were also running? Looking for someone who might have a scintilla of sense?

Please take this as a huge reality check. Obama can speak eloquently, but his spiritual leader for 20 years is a BIGOT! And Hillary's only White House experience that she has claim to is Whitewater coverups, CattleGate, being in the White House when Monica "interned".

My hope is that this November the Democratic Party will see an exorcism of all that is failure and focus not on caucuses and superdelegates. The nominating process is so pandering and racist that they need to junk that for winner take all. And THINK before you VOTE!

Obama repudiated the words, but avoided disavowing a long time "family member." He suggested there was a lot more to him than a few sound bites. He showed an admirable, but undeserved, display of loyalty, more like a son to a wayward father than to an "uncle" as he has characterized him.

In return, that "father" has acted like just another "deadbeat dad" who "boldly" cusses and fusses when he is at home, then hides out of sight when the son gets in trouble. A real man would have the back of the one who placed entirely too much trust in him.

As a man with honor, Wright should be the one to step forward to explain himself and to take the heat. If he can't do that, he should forever shut the H*** up.

Honestly. Get a grip folks.

I trust Barack Obama.

I do not trust Hillary Clinton. Not this time.

I do not trust John McCain. Not this time.

It's as simple at that. Go with your gut. Who will help us make ourselves better as a country at the end of 4 years?

The only hope is Barack Obama. There's plenty of kool aid left.

I am a negro male who has supported Hillary from the begining. The year is 2008 and the good ole boys and girls, ie the Reagan Democrats, will never vote for a Black man for president. I live in Florida and if you are not a Clarence Thomas clone or a yes sir Negro you are constantly reminded of your place. I am a 45 year old college educated black male who sees Americia in 2008 not as it should be but as it is.

We live in era, that experiencing something is not solely defined by whether or not you are physically present when an event is happening. We live in an ersatz world of instant information.

A videotape of hate caught in a tape is kinda hard to explain away!

As an ordinary person, I can, and as protected by our constitution, attend a church of KKK, or the Farrakhan church for all it matters, and nobody will mind my association with them even if I deluge the you tube by all the hating sermons I have attended.

Mr Barack is a different one. He is asking to be the nominee for the Democratic party and who knows, may become the next President after Mr. Bush!

Mr Barack's associations interest me, as the whole nation should, I think, so we can have an informed decision whether the man with a checkered past is the right one to lead us and our nation for the next four years as our president.

blh said:

"It's amazing to me how people use anything they want to validate not voting for Obama."

I suppose people should instead use anything you want? And why does a non-Obama vote need to be "validated?" Surely you don't mean to imply that Obama is entitled to my vote?

it's interesting the way that this campain has slowly evolved into a sort of racial standoff. In my opinion, the reverend's comments are not so much the issue at play here. Rather, the "church" incident has allowed caucasian American's to realize that despite Barack's comforting post-racial stance, in reality, Mr. Obama has spent his adult life allied to "the other's" culture. A lot of so-called moderate whites have suddenly realized that Obama does not represent their world-view, but rather symbolizes an aspect of american culture that remains largely foreign and frightening to them. I don't think that Obama's campain will recover now that this deeper white fear has become unsettled.

"Words are important"

"I'm sure all of you had an experience where your preacher said something you didn't agree with"

--not GD America!--if he had (or anything as seriously F-ed up, I'd have walked right out of there. Why is there a different standard for African-American preachers?

(and don't say what about Hagee, etc--those guys are all schmucks, too, and McCain is a fool to be touting his support)

Eric M. When I first started reading your comment I thought what a bright and understanding young man, but as I read on I was truly disillusioned by what I continued to read. Do you really mean that we should elect a man, any man, who sways with the wind. Who says and does one thing to appease Wright and Farakhan, and says and does something else to appease the voters of this country? Following rules only to play ball does not exhibit an honest person, certainly not the kind of person needed to be President of this great country. What you suggest is deceitful which is certainly not a trait that is desirable in a President. I hope that I misread your intensions. I am a white senior citizen who believes I have always been fair in my assessment of people of all races.

From the first day she announced she was running for president she has lied about her thirty five years of service, which is not only a bald faced lie, but totally laughable as well. She lied about Nafta and lies about many, many other things. Her campaign has tried discrediting Obama with Jewish voters implying that he was a Moslem and anti-Israel, and has done whatever they could to bring the ugliest parts of racism to the voters in an attempt to scare them away from voting for Obama. The Clinton's have run a win-at-all- costs campaign against Obama of mud slinging, incessant lies, and trying to disparage, demean, and debase him every chance they get.
Her vote for the Iraq War is not what makes me against her. Why I can never and will never vote for her is because of the type of person she is and the kind of campaign she has run. She is a revenge filled, mean and nasty person with zero scruples who will stop at nothing to get to the White House. She has engaged in the politics of personal destruction and the real sorry thing about all of this is that senior members of the party and superdelegates such as Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Jimmy Carter, and Al Gore have sat silently by and not warned the Clintons that if they did not change their tactics of smearing Obama and racism that they would come out publically and declare their support for Obama. A party without any principles does not deserve to return to the White House and if we have President McCain in the White House a year from now the Democratic party has only itself to blame.

I would hope her lead is growing! Let's face it, if people are still voting for Obama, then they are saying they really will follow him anywhere, including over a cliff. This mindless support of a charismatic but insubstantial leader boggles my mind!

I don't think Jeremiah Wright's speech anti-American. It's impossible for him to be anti-himself, an American.

His speech is against some Americans, some failed policies. He is wrong because he is a straight talker.

It's perfectly OK for Obama to spend 20 years with Jeremiah Wright. I don't think Jeremiah Wright is talking like that every year, every month, every day. Black people are entitled to what they are thinking about the white dominated America, considering the how long the white America has been screwing them very hard. Things have improved quite a lot, but it's not the result of the right wing America; it's the result of the better part of Americans, white and black alike. Jeremiah Wright doesn't hate those Americans! And his hatred is not directed to those noble and good white Americans.

Why does the Obama Pom Squad keep trying to frame Obama’s exposure as a longtime supporter of hate as voter "fear."

Fear has nothing to do with it.

It's about being duped by Obama, who we now know is a Black Nationalist.

It's about being very angry at the arrogance of this guy to support hate for 25 years and then try and sell us on the idea that he's the great "uniter," “post racial,” etc. , etc., etc.

It's about Obama insulting our intelligent by intially pretending like he didn't know Wright was a hateful, racist hack after a close personal relationship lasting decades.

Fear has nothing to do with it. If anyone should be fearful it's the Obama Pom Squad. Your man has been exposed. The charade is over.

I enjoy how the Obama Zombies like to call everyone who doesn't support their man "racist" or that if Obama doesn't get elected it's due to "racism."

HOGWASH

Who is really the racist?

The big questions remain unanswered that cut to the core of Obama's credibility, character and judgment:

Mr. Obama, if you truly believe in a united America and are "post racial," why for the last 25 years have you aligned yourself and your family with the hateful, anti-America, anti-white, anti-semitic rhetoric of Jeremiah Wright and the Black Nationalist movement?

Mr. Obama, if you are truly the great uniter, why have you donated tens of thousands of dollars, including $22,500 last year alone, to Jeremiah Wright to further his message of hate and diviseness?

Mr. Obama, why did it take the media and plummeting poll numbers to jolt you out of what can only be described as a racist stupor to begin addressing the issue of hate in your church?

I live in Michigan, near Detroit and I've had this silly idea all day about travelling over to Chicago for Sunday Services at the Church of the Most Holy Reverend Wright and listening in as his diatribe went from brotherly love over to the "cup of hate" he drinks from just so I could say that I walked out of this damnable place of worship.
See you for Sunday Service, Reverend.

All of you hate mongers are pathetic and heartless. Those of you that still want to judge and criticize are nothing but hypocrites and RACISTS. You probably weren't going to vote for him anyway because of his color. Pull your heads out and get a life. Quit spewing your hate and be a part of the solution to unite this country instead of dividing it.

I have been witness to a crime perpetrated by, and on behalf of, MSNBC. Days after presidential hopeful Barack Obama’s speech on race, during which he challenged the media to not perpetuate hate and ignorance by showing Reverend Wright’s ranting ad nauseam, they did so anyway.

Hmmmmm, looks like Obama's speech, you know, the one where he tried to lay the blame on White America and his nana, turned around and bit him in the a**. He is no prophet, no movie star, he is what he is - a crooked, lying politician, who without "his race" would not even be in contention for the U S Senate now. Maybe he should move to Canada (take Hillary while you're at it) and get a job there...(I bet you know some people.....) He is done for.

I've been doing political polling for 12 years, and this poll is meaningless.

It was taken from Feb. 13th to the 18th, during the height of the Rev. Wright scandal and BEFORE news coverage of Obama's speech.

Even then, it showed that Obama's favorables had grown among Democrats and Independents and his unfavorables had remained unchanged.

NEITHER of the quotes Silva uses are found in the poll report, which leads me to believe they came from the Clinton campaign.

IN FACT, if you read what the pollsters wrote, you get a much different picture than what Silva suggests:

"The February 2008 Franklin & Marshall College Poll finds Hillary Clinton
leading Barack Obama among the state’s registered Democrats, but that her
sizable lead in the Keystone State has started to diminish. Clinton leads Obama by 12 points, 44% to 32%, but her lead is substantially smaller than the 20 point advantage she held in January."

Obama is a racist fraud and America now knows it. I'll cast my vote for a man who bled for this country in McCain. Obama should get sent back to Kenya. I can't believe a treasonous fool like him is allowed to step foot in the Senate.

Far fethched Jerimiah WrIght?
Bill Clinton, "What was done cannot be undone. But we can end the silence. We can stop turning our heads away. We can look at you in the eye and finally say, on behalf of the American people: what the United States government did was shameful. President Clinton gave this statement in 1997 regarding a forty year experiment performed by the US department of public health on 399 black men ( between 1932 and 1972) in the late stages of syphilis in which the department withheld treatment.

You all sound crazy, Hillary's supporter shourld realize a problem if Hillary can only get a slight gain when the media brings up the new negative topic of the week. She's sloppy seconds, or better yet the rebound chick waiting for all the Obama supporters to change their minds and go with the only other choice not even the next best choice... How could you want a president that has a multiple personality disorder, what is she going to do when the phone rings at 3am cry, laugh or talk. And TITO, I hear you she couldn't even handle being first lady let alone president.

Patrick, Obama HAS lost the race, effective Tuesday, March 18. All that I have seen for the past 2 weeks is REVERSE RACISM. I, nor my parents, grand parents, or great great grand parents, never KNEW a slave, let alone owned one. African Americans have to let this go, just as Bill Cosby has said, become good parents, educate your children, stop acting like victims! I as an American citizen owe you, or Mr. Obama a damn thing! It's getting really old! Obama hasn't realized it yet, but he opened up a Pandora's box this week, up until this point he had an extremely good chance of winning the election. But he has shown that deep down inside, he can't let "it" go either, it's been imbedded in his brain for far too long. Staying in the election now will just be a waste of the taxpayers money, he may want to contibute what is left to his church.

So, I take it that freedom of speech doesn't really apply to the black church then, does it. I have on numerous occasions heard comments by white pastors saying negative things about America. I've even been in the audience. This is a truly sad time for this country, a truly very sad time.******************
I HAVE HEARD THE SAME THINGS! I would like to have hoped that would not count against Obama - I still know hope and intelligence when I see it - and I know that this is who Obama is - full of hope and intelligence! Voters are like toilet paper - one drop of water and they fall apart - I hope they can forget about the preacher - who obviously did not talk that way all the time - and actually I know this as I have been to this church several times come to think of it and have never heard a racist sermon of this type. So if you say that Obama went to this church knowing it was racist - THAT IS NOT TRUE - Trinity is a lovely church; I actually liked it and considered going there permanent at one time. All I ever heard was about getting closer to God through bettering yourself. What ever happened that day is not what that Chruch stands for!

It's interesting to see all of the racists, bigots, "I told you so" and supporters of Hillary who think they have something to cheer about. As an independent who is old enough to remember when campaigns were fought to the bitter end I welcome the challenge. Also, like many others who responded to this short article, I would vote for McCain rather than Hillary. Obama's loss in the primary would be a sure defeat for the Democratic party in the general election. She just ain't got what it takes to lead this divided nation.

I also have heard negative comments about America in white churches before.
I would like to hope that we do see Obama and not this preacher. I see the hope and intelligence that Obama brings - I am not voting for the church.
What ever brought that passion up in that Pastor Wright that day - does not reflect on that Church.
Actually Trinity Church is a very lovely church - I have been there quite a few times and started to join. I have never heard racist remarks - if any thing all remarks were geared toward self improvement and community improvement with God. And Obama is being truthful, Trinity is not racist. I hope you can put this aside; we need a president that wants peace for us and the world. We don't need anymore Cowboy presidents. They are going to get us killed!

Go Hillary!!!! Obama defends his Pastor and membership in this church. When he compared his church membership to no difference between his church affiliation and having a white grandmother . He was wrong you can choose your church affilation and the fact that he has stayed in this church for 20 yrs. tells you something about him.The man preaches hate.

I wish I had some magic dust to open the eyes of the people who are so smitten by Hillary Clinton. I know her. And I mean I KNOW her. I don't know anything about Barack Obama and I know that John McCain changes his mind on stuff as often as most people change their underwear. Hillary Clinton is not going to make a good president. Will Obama? I don't know. Will McCain? Only if he can remember where he is when he wakes up every morning. And even then, it will be tough since all he wants to do is continue the wars. But th I wish I could speak to people one on one to tell them this: Hillary Clinton will not make a good president. I will take my chances with one of the other two because I KNOW what she is like. I have worked with her in the past and I know the kinds of things she is capable of. And its scary. She is scary.

Allow Trinity to define itself. The website for the congregation begins with an introductory paragraph under the heading, “About Us,” that unequivocally proclaims: “We are an African people, and remain ‘true to our native land,’ the mother continent, the cradle of civilization.”

For many years, the next paragraph (recently removed due to the Wright controversy) appeared on the website and shamelessly explained: “Trinity United Church of Christ adopted the Black Value System….We believe in the following twelve precepts and covenantal statements. These Black Ethics must be taught and exemplified in homes, churches, nurseries and schools, wherever Blacks are gathered.” Those “precepts and covenantal statements” include, “Commitment to the Black Community” (Number 2), “Disavowal of the Pursuit of ‘Middleclassness’” (Number 8), “Pledge allegiance to all Black leadership who espouse and embrace the Black Value System (Number 11) and “Personal Commitment to embracement of the Black Value System.” (Number 12).

Let's switch out the word "black" with "white" and see how chilling the paragraph becomes. Aryan Nation, anyone? In a post-racial world, no brand of racism gets a pass. Especially for one who professes to rise above it. Racism by anyone regardless of color is ugly and destructive, and no amount of apologist rhetoric (as we saw in Obama's Philadelphia race speech) can alter that. Whether against whites or blacks or Asians or Latinos or anyone else, racism has to stop. Wright's statements are not random or taken out of context, but are being sold on official church CD's and are reflective of an underlying philosophy that Obama must have bought into, otherwise how could he find in this particular church a spiritual home? (and FYI, I'm neither white nor black)

In this vein, Obama's speech fell short. He is increasingly less and less the hope/change representative he declares himself to be, and more and more an old school politician.

"So, I take it that freedom of speech doesn't really apply to the black church then, does it. I have on numerous occasions heard comments by white pastors saying negative things about America. I've even been in the audience. This is a truly sad time for this country, a truly very sad time.

Were have you ever heard a white minister Dam America? If any white politician attended a church for 20 years that preached the same kind of hateful and anti-American filth that was spoken at Obama's church, they would be ridiculed and any ambitions for the highest office in the land would end immediately. If they had their children Baptized by the minister who stated such filth, their judgment would be seriously questioned and many would state they weren't fit to be a US Senator. If they made their largest charitable contributions to such a church and minister, they might be run out of office.

Because Obama is black and knows how to deliver a good speech does not excuse his poor judgments on rationalizing this kind of anti-American and hateful speech. That has nothing to do with free speech - that has to do with their are consequences to 'just words'.

I find it amazing when Don Imus made those terribly racial incendiary comments, BHO demanded that Imus should be fired immediately. Yet, he hears the same comments from his "Christian" church for 20 years, and thinks nothing of it, very interesting. Nope, no double-standard here.

I can only assume he was asleep during mass for 20 years, and listened to Don Imus's show every waking morning.

I was almost afraid to read this website, thinking that all white people would be totally against Senator Obama now and I've read EVERY SINGLE POST!!! I'm so glad that lots of people don't just make snap decisions when changing candidates. (or ABOUT changing candidates). I really feel for Senator Obama...a professor of Constitutional Law being drug through the mud just because of his frienship with a controversial pastor. Someone on this site said "he planned to become president years ago", or something to that effect). So WHAT??? Isn't that a GOOD thing to aspire to??? He's "paid his dues"!!! I've seen him 4 times, and NO ONE WILL EVER CONVINCE ME that he doesn't love this country and only wants the BEST FOR US AND IT!!

The painful truth here is
that con artist lying rraud
Barack Hussein Obama and
his idiot wife Michelle'
Obama big mouths are what
destroyed Obama's 2008
Presidential Campaign even
before Obama's Racist
Pastor Wright also started
running his racist mouth.
Just say NO to the Racists
Barack & Michelle Obama as
we cannot afford frauds and
racist extremists like the
Obams's in the White House.
Go Hillary Clinton and even
Go Amnesty John McCain.

Geographically Ignorant Dumb Dumb Little Johnnie Dyslin, "the Joseph Stalin of Streamwood", please keep drinking the kool-ade so that the orderlies in the Elgin mental hospital know that you're still alive.

Incapable of rational thought, but still alive.

J. Wright complained about the America power stucture, and rich white people i.e. a country and a class of people. That is not racism (a belief that one race is superior to others). And actually I think at this point in time the racism and hate that is being demonstrated here is about feeling of self hate, and insecurity about a lack of intelligence.
The truth is you are bootlickers to rich white people, and you need someone to feel better than.

Can we please stop the nonsense. Race is an issue in America, one that America is trying to overcome. Blacks have an experience or abuse and racism and being angry about that does does not mean they are unable to focus on being positive and moving forward to create harmony between the races. Barack Obama is a BIRACIAL man- He is white and black at the same time. He KNOWS that white and black can exist together in one unit. Himself and America. Any Bi-racial person can tell you that.

The Clinton Machine is going to throw ANYTHING they can at Barack Obama to try to keep him from winning. Barack has won more states, more delegates and more pf the popular vote. He IS the front-runner.
Yes that is new for America. Great Yes we need to go in a different direction that the BUSH-CLINTON Monopoly we have seen for 16 years! YEs we need a fresh face, a fresh perspective, an honest man who is willing to work with all people to achieve great results. Whether Barack Obama is Black or White what difference does it make. His integrity and intentions are good. He CAN lead our country into a new tomorrow. And while the Clintons have done some good for America- remember they are Antsy to be back in the White House where Bill was almost impeached for lying and cheating and Hillary made a failed attempt at Universal Healthcare and spent 8 years doing 1st Lady activities- which was expected of her. She did NOT do presidential activities.

I think Ethics are more important than years of time in a corrupt system and Clinton is offering more of the same old corruption, distortion of the truth and willingness to put her own selfish needs ahead of what is BEST FOR AMERICA.

I suggest we all think hard about where we want to see America going and pick someone who is committed to taking us there, not someone who is willing to lie and cheat to get there.

Barack Obama is the man for the job. Go out and vote for him.

I urge anyone who has not viewed the entire speech to watch it with an open mind and then feel free to comment. Relying on news organizations for your information will only lead to a patial view of the big picture:

Actually......
I don't hear the extreme hate or racism you speak of from Rev Wright. Pessimism and a conspiracy theory..... oh yeah, but not hate or racism.

He said Hillary had not been called a Ni**er.... can you argue with that?
He said the country was run by rich whites? DuHHHHH?
He said our foreign policy had a bearing on 9/11 ..... DUHHHH....

The AIDS thing was looney but like mentioned above, he lived through the uncovering of Tuskegee. I would be a bit skeptical or our Government as well. What is so hateful or untrue other than the AIDS comment?

This REALLY needs no explanation.... it is ugly racism and double standard trickery pure and simple.

OH yeah.... where is it that the KKK originated ? must be some other country.... couldn't be the Ole' USA could it? what is ridiculous or hateful about that statement?

Flame retardant, 3-2A/20 Nomex suit........ check*

Theoretically, Obama would be pretty much tied with Hillary in PA right now. It doesn't look good for him. His numbers are decreasing instead of increasing. He totally blew it, and blew his chance at the presidency. but hey, the man appparently still has his dignity, and soon will have many, many opportunities to listen to as many Sunday sermons as he wants.

How could Obama have been so damn stupid to think that his Mentor would not bring him down once white America found him out?

Obama and Clinton are both amazingly intelligent; they approach the world, however, from a different perspective. Obama has shown grace in the face of diversity, as well as a willingness to forgive, and an unwillingness to stoop to dirty politics, and the courage to tell the truth, even when it loses him voters.

By contract, Clinton comes from a perspective that she is entitled to the office and is angry that Obama is stealing her birthright. Rather than forgive, she inflates and accuses. Her supporters seem to take great joy in others' failings, and seem to be perennially angry at the world. There is something very unattractive about that. Even if she is the right person for the presidency, her nastiness overshadows her accomplishments.

listen here clinton folks..

SHE WILL LOSE.

That's the truth

Denile will only make you sound more foolish.

Your heads are so spun that you really think that obama's minister will have any affect on how much better he is than Hillary. She's got much more dirt, and she doesn't give Jack about you. SPIN SPIN SPIN. Hilldog groupies are mindless.

All the obama supporters are defending him staying at the church, ALL the black ministers are defending Wrights preaching, that simply tells ALL Americans they also support his feelings of anti- America and white hatred that the church preaches. No one says Obama cant attend the church for 20 years, or raise his daughters to be racist like his wife, what we ARE SAYING is that HE CANNOT REPRESENT ALL OF AMERCIA AS U.S. PRESIDENT! Rev Wright was and most likely still is a paid advisor on Obamas campaign??? Obama and David Axelrod insisted that Obama be the black candidate early in SC when they tried to spin it on Bill Clinton, it worked for the biased tabloid media like CNN cronies, since then, we ALL have come to realize Obama has problems with the truth and we learned this week for sure where his faith and true beliefs are, its obvious THERES ABSOLUTLY NO CHANGE WITH OBAMA, HE WILL DRAG U.S. BACK TO THE 60'S RACIAL DIVIDE at a time our country needs to unite. He cannot do that, no matter how many black news casts tell you he can

OBAMA STANDS BEHIND SPIRITAL ADVISOR WRIGHT!
“Wright is like an uncle you love and respect” As imperfect as he may be, he has been family to me for so many years, I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community, said Obama. The man who believes and preaches the U.S. government formulated the HIV AIDS virus to commit genocide against blacks also preaches “We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye on 9/11. This is the same man Obama had as advisor on his Presidential staff until this week. Rather than break ties with his demagogic, anti-American pastor, Obama used a speech on the non-back race to excuse his behavior and sweep the controversy under the rug. Passing the buck. Obama supposedly condemning Wright's shocking verbal assaults against the U.S and White Americans, but April last year; Obama was the first and quickest to demand Imus' ouster for making a racially insensitive remarks. His opinions and issues change with the weather, he is too UNSTABLE and proven he cannot make a decision or stay with one. Next we have ALL corrupt campaign financers, business and personal friends as indicted Rezko, former Dallas Mayor Hill, Rep. Rick Renzi and Mr. Auchi, leading supplier of arms to Saddam's regime convicted for corruption in France, the same British-Iraqi billionaire lent millions and millions of dollars to Obama all coming out of the woodwork. ALL this from the half black ex-Muslim who touts change and claims to be a uniter of all people? Proof he is just another in-experienced Washington politician that the media has like CNN has given a free pass at the great risk of our great country! There will soon be allot more video of Rev Wright and Obama coming, all this has proven without doubt if he is the nominee the democrat voters he cannot win the general election, just the black vote will not do it. Its time for Obama to leave this race and take his not so proud of America racist wife, spiritual advisor and anti white church with him..

I completely understood what Obama was saying. I myself have parents that have on more than one occasion used the N-word. Am I supposed to say: "Harumph!" and step out on them and never speak to them again? Hogwash!

Besides the fact that Wright's church does a lot of good in Chicago, do you not see how some black folks feel incredibly disadvantaged by the American system still today? Look at Katrina, folks! Allow yourself to step into someone else's shoes for a moment. Allow yourself that thought experiment. It might do you some good.

What I cannot understand is why Senator Obama refers to himself as an "African American" if he wants to UNITE this Country. WE ARE ALL "AMERICANS" not "African, Asian, Hispanic or White Americans" but "AS ONE, UNITED AMERICAN". My feelings are if you live in this country you are strictly an "AMERICAN" and should be PROUD to be one.

Also, it is ministers like Rev. Jeremiah Wright that keep fueling the racism in this Country. How do you think these young people react to these sermons - yes, racism just keeps flowing.

Why did Senator Obama continue going to this church for 20 years? Rev. Wright did not just happen to make this particular speech while Senator Obama was absent. This has been the feelings of Rev. Wright all these years.

This is the problem with looking at only one poll. The RCP (Real Clear Politics) averages had her ahead by 15 a week ago--now it's 16.

Nothing significant has changed. She needs to win Pa. by at least 30 [points to remain in the race... aint gonna happen.

Shame on those democrates that are too embarassed or too stubborn to admit they were wrong about Obama.
They will cost us the election in November. America votes for a guy whos spiritual mentor is a fascist? Yeah, right.
Kennedy, Kerry, et al--admit it boys --if you don't give your egos a rest this election is already lost.

Neither Barack nor Hillary is entirely at fault. They are bit players for a party and political movement that has spent the last 40 years ginning up race and gender distinctions unconstitutionally in everything from access to education to job promotions. It is now coming home to roost and will cost the Democrats this election. Maybe by 2012 they'll have figured out that ignoring economic disparities among the citizens doesn't win elections. Time to give the race and gender preference eggheads on the Left the boot!

I gave Obama my sincere attention. He says nothing, has no substance, cannot articulate the issues, and will not be ready for the Presidency for about ten years. I will vote for Hillary.

His wife's statement of "This is the first time in my adult life I have been proud of the United States." Connect the dots; this leads to Jerimiah.

The only benefit I can see if he is elected is that we may get health care, for example. With all of these big mucka-muck politicians backing him, I'm sure they will come through with something, and no doubt it will be one of Hillary's proposals.

I hope Hillary is the nominee.
