The Swamp

by Mark Silva and updated with Obama response

The Clinton campaign is calling on the Obama campaign to endorse “do-over’’ primary elections in Michigan and Florida, whose Democratic parties have been stripped of their delegates to the summer convention for holding rule-busting January primaries.

Florida has given up on the idea of a do-over, with little enthusiasm for the mail-in primary on June 3 that state party leaders approved and no money from the state to call another full-scale primary election. IAnd the re-do appears doomed in Michigan, where legislative leaders say they cannot act on authorization for a new, June 3 primary unless the Obama campaign supports it.

The Obama campaign has insisted that he played by the rules in bypassing campaigning in Michigan and Florida when the DNC acted to punish them for early votes. The Clinton campaign insists it is game for do-overs.

"Hillary Clinton wants a primary. She has been on record for weeks,'' said Harold Ickes, senior adviser to the Clinton campaign. "So why is there a holdup?... Sen. Obama... End of story.''

Obama, leading Clinton in the party’s pledged delegate count, has little incentive for seeking new elections in Michigan – where Clinton alone among the major candidates appeared on the Jan. 15 ballot – or in Florida, where the primary was uncontested and Clinton won it. Clinton, in need of every pledged delegate she can get, has plenty of incentive to corral her share of the two states’ delegates.

The Clinton camp also argues that the Democratic candidate for president this year will pay the price for “disenfranchising’’ Michigan and Florida at the convention when the nominee courts those two states in November.

Obama campaign spokesman Tommy Vietor replied: "We understand that when it comes to counting votes, the Clinton campaign favors whatever they think will benefit them.....

"But on a day when Michigan legislators themselves have indicated that there isn’t enough legislative support for a re-vote—and when Sen. Clinton’s own Michigan co-chair said that a re-vote ‘wouldn’t make much difference’—it doesn’t make any sense for them to point fingers at our campaign,'' the Obama campaign's Vietor added.

"As others in Michigan have pointed out, there are valid concerns about the proposal currently being discussed, including severe restrictions on voter eligibility and the reliance on private funding. Local election officials have indicated that they may be unable to discharge their responsibilities under the timetable this law sets.''

The Clinton camp had opened fire earlier in the day:

“We have every reason to believe that Sen. Obama and his campaign are dragging their feet,’’ Ickes said in a conference call with reporters. “They have never come out publicly… and said there should be re-run primaries.

“By slapping these states in the face… we are in effect saying to these states… that you’re not going to be seated,’’ Ickes said. “We think that is a very, it is a politically stupid thing to do… It will give the Republicans a real opening to go into both of these states and say, ‘Look, the Democrats didn’t care enough about you to have you seated at the convention. Be with us in the fall.’’’

“We think this is a very shortsighted strategy that will not help us at all in the general election,’’ Ickes said.

Phil Singer, a Clinton campaign spokesman, put it this way today: “What is going on right now is a passive-aggressive effort on the part of the Obama campaign to disenfranchise the voters of these states.’’

The Clinton camp was asked if their concern now for new elections in Michigan and Florida has more to do with their deficit in the pledged delegate count.

“People keep making a phony distinction between so-called pledged delegates and super-delegates… A delegate is a delegate is a delegate,’’ Ickes said. “They are charged with, as the whole convention is charged with, trying to determine who will be the strongest candidate for our party in the general election.

“At the end of this process… neither one of them will have enough delegates… for the nomination… whether neither Florida nor Michigan are included, or both are.’’

"Hillary Clinton wants a primary. She has been on record for weeks,'' said Harold Ickes, senior adviser to the Clinton campaign. You're right about that, Mr. Ickes. Those "weeks on record" started after Hillary started losing. Prioir to that, Hillary was "on record" as having told everyone that Florida and michigan did not count.

Question: Do you support giving illegal immigrants driver's licenses?

Answer: Well, yes, and uh, no, uh... I'll get back to you on that.

Question: Do you support the federal governemnt's intervention in the current economic climate?

Answer: I am not going to support or not support the feds action.

Question: Do you think Gov. Spitzer should resign?

Answer: I am not going to comment on that.

"In uncertain times, we cannot afford uncertain leadership"
- Hillary Rodham-Clinton

What's the point? Unless Hillary can win the redo by 100% to capture all the delegates, Hillary and Obama will end up splitting the delegates.

Even after splitting the delegates, neither candidates will have enough to clinch the nomination before the DNC.

So this is Hillary fiscal policy of spending million of dollars in states that can't afford it for nothing other than her own ego?

You're finished, Hillary!

This just goes to show what lowlifes the Clinton's actually are, Hillary agreed to the election rules BEFORE the election started and now that she's getting her butt handed to her by Obama she want's to change the rules. If her last name wasn't "Clinton" she would have already been forced to drop out of this race.

Tough luck Hillary, it won't matter if your racism wins you PA now because you're finished..

Shortsighted strategy??? How about running a kitchen-sink attack against the democratic candidate with an insurmountable delegate lead so that you can unfairly take the primary away from him and thus disenfranchising millions of voters across the whole country. Now that's shortsighted.

No, Queen B and her criminal campaign henchman: Primaries were held in Michigan and Florida. The DNC ruled those results to not matter. You don't re-do votes to satisfy a desire to change the rules or change the results.

I know the Demoncrats love to play games with elections, and vote fraud is a way of life for the Demoncratic party, put no do overs in Michigan or Florida. If the Demoncrats want do overs, then pay for them!

"Hillary Clinton wants a primary. She has been on record for weeks,'' said Harold Ickes, senior adviser to the Clinton campaign.

To quote Mick Jagger, "You can't always get what you want." Hillary needs to embrace that concept. In August in Denver, she won't get something she wants even more than a primary.

And then she won't get what she REALLY wants in November.

So help her accept reality, Mr Ickes. Tell her how much character she will build in 2008...

Hilary only wants a re-do because it may benefit her. She didn't complain when she was ahead in delegates and votes. She complains about caucuses after she loses all of them following her win in Nevada. She denigrates those states she doesn't win as not important, calling them "caucus states" and "boutique states" or "non-swing" states that we won't win in November. The fact is Michigan and Florida voted for the rules as they stand, broke them and knew the consequences, but went forward and did not say a word until Hilary complained. Obama said he would support whatever the DNC decides, since it is their decision on what to accept. Now do-overs are not looking good for either state and Hillary is on the attack with more BS. Just split the delegates 50-50 and move on, or at the very least give Hillary 52-48 in Florida since everyone was on the ballot. Obama has nothing to do with the re-dos. Florida said they can't make any system work in such short time and Michigan is having problems legislatively. That is internal and has nothing to do with Obama.

Here is what I think. Hillary Clinton believes that she can once again spin an issue to the American people and make her look like a victim. Well as a woman, I do not want THIS woman to get her way by looking like the victim. She has set back woman so far with her behavior the past few months. It is a disgrace. She knew the rules about Florida and Michigan, she only started reacting when she began loosing. Hillary the Victim. She should have watched Obama's historic speech today and then she would have learned how to win an election. Hillary should be Governor of NY. She has something in common with the former Gov.

Aside from picking one side or the other, isn't it apparent that Clinton's campaign has been grasping for weeks now at anything to blame on Obama? It is typical human behavior when pushed to the point of desperation, that one will try anything to prove thier point. Of course the Obama campaign didn't fight for the votes, they didn't need to, BUT they did say that whatever the states and DNC decided was ok with them. What else should they have said to make this happen? Donate $30 million to make it happen??? This is getting absurd...

What emanates from the Hillary camp is getting more and more silly.

The two states knowingly broke the rules, and she supports this.

So how can you trust her on other matters?

PS I am a Democrat.

The DNC proves it is a shoddy organization. The way primaries and caucuses are done is ridiculous. The Texas two-step was a farce. Obama gets close to 70 pct of the Mississippi vote and nets only 4 delegates more than Clinton. Clinton wins Nevada and gets one less delegate. Blows your mind.

Now, over 2,000,000 voters lose out on this election. However, the 400 who voted in Alaska counts. Unbelievable.

The Republican party is looking better every day.

It is important for either Michigan and Florida to have their pledged delegates seated or to do-over the primaries. No one could have predicted that the race would still be on with no clear winner--both candidates need superdelegates to get the nomination--there is no clear winner. If there is no do-over- voters will be disenfranchised.
Doesn't it matter that Florida's Republican controlled legistlature did this to Florida?
Dems will lose the general election if Florida and Michigan are not seated.

Obama Camp to the She weasel's camp "Reality sucks!"
The She-weasel can not gain the nomination through legitimate means.
Now it is time for additional extralegal and down right sleazeball tactics from the Clinton Duoacracy.
Both of the Clinton's will probably face indictment before the end of Pres. Obama's 2nd term.

I would expect a push ofr a "do over" vote from Florida, land of the hanging chad, but Michigan surprises me. Folks, there are no do-overs. The state party knew precisely what the penalty would be for violating the National Party rules. The solution is to unseat all the state leadership and get things straight for NEXT year. Why is a do-over OK for Michigan and not, say, South Carolina. What if the people in South Carolina want a do-over. Who is to say a do-over is OK under x circumstances, but not y? Again, the state party leadership knew what the outcome would be and chose to go ahead. No basis for a do-over, there.

These states can't follow simple rules of etiquette, much like Hillary can't, all she is doing is dividing the country. I'm at a point where I would rather see McCain in than Hillary just because of all the lying, cheating, and stealing she trying pull, just down right ugly politics which turned off voters for years in the first place. Nothing fresh, nothing new, just power hungry politicians who only care about themselves, she should be ashamed of herself.

I used to laugh at the notion of Hillary believeing that the Dem nomination was hers and only hers to have. I didn't believe it when people were saying that about her before this primary process even started.

Wow, Was I Ever Wrong!

She does believe it and all of the crap, slash and burn, party dividing, racist BS that she's throwing at Obama really isn't personal because she would have done it to any of the other candidates who would have happened to stand in the way of her coronation too.
John Edwards, Bill Richardson, Chris Dodd, it wouldn't matter she would have done the same crap to them that she's now doing to Obama.

I now know why the Republicans have always hated the Clintons more so than any of the other Democrats, it's because the Clintons are just like the Republicans, same lowlife unethical tactics and all.

I support Michigan's right to a do-over. In fact, as a California resident, I think California should re-vote too. I live in a big state, and big states rightly have a bigger say in the nomination. There's nothing in the Democratic Party rules to prevent states from moving their primary later in the calendar year. Every state wants to vote early to influence the momentum of the election. But in a close race, the final primaries are decisive. So I think California should vote early AND vote again in June. Every vote in our state needs to be counted. Not just once, but two times. Otherwise our important voices are disenfranchised.

The DNC is the one that is being STUPID. We already Voted, Use our votes for BOTH States, Screw Obama, he didn't want our votes, and he still doesn't want our votes, so guess what, he doesn't care about either state, so what would he do as pres? Vote Present.... Make a fricking decision, he Compalined about Ferraro, but stands by his racist preacher??? WTF

More dirty tricks out of Hillary. Congrats on winning those states unauthorized primaries. Enjoy the results.

This Ickes guy is a real piece of work. He set the rules in the 1st place! Clinton says they don't matter know they do (or should!). She voted for war, now she's against it. She failed at passing Health Care, now she's Queen of Health Care. She supported NAFTA, now she thinks its no good. She was for driver's licenses for illegals, then maybe not. She thinks Iran's republic guard should be given Bush-blank-check status, but she's against Bush-McCain policies. She has experience enough to pick up the red phone, but cant seem to relate any actual instances of this so called experience. She's her own candidate, yet everyone votes for her due to Bill-nostalgia (except for the angry women!) ... what is it again that she's bringing? I guess it must be everything and all sides, since she's been all over the map!

The DNC has to clean up its party and the rules. In the end the head of the DNC will be calling the shots and who will be elected. This is really shoddy business. I cannot support the DNC until they resolve MICH and FLA.

When Hillary Clinton was the presumptive nominee, she felt no threat as a result of abiding by the agreed upon punishment for Florida and Michigan. Now that she clearly cannot claim the lead in pledged delegates, she is doing a 180 degree turn and lamenting at how unfair this is to Michigan and Florida voters. Did she not feel it was fair when she, along with all the other Democratic candidates agreed upon the punishment to be meted out? I suspect her leaving her name on the ballad anyway was no accident. She re-defines hypocrisy.

Puerto Rico and Guam will have delegates and be seated. MI and FL delegates can sit home and watch tv I guess. How ironic.....

Yes, Obama is responsible for the states' choice to break the democratic party rules and disenfranchise their own voters--something both candidates agreed that they would not be a part of yet Hillary decided to put her name on the ballot in Michigan and won the autocratic vote barely while name recognition gave her a victory in Florida... yes, that's Obama's fault.

Get a life Hillary. Your campaign is TOAST!

Obama has got his priorities on his head. Does he think he can win by avoiding the votes in Michigan and Florida? Once again he reveals the ugly side of a hypcrite in him, as in the Rezko scandal he is enbroiled in; as in the Rev. Jeremiah Wright controversy. He is a coward hiding behind a fraudulent cloak of HOPE. Now we know all the hope he had been preaching comes from the fraudulence of Jeremiah Wright and his wagon of hypocrisy. It is a shame so many Americans have been led astrayed- wholesale - by this fraudulent politician by the name of "O B A M A THE CON.
Does he think he can thwart the will of the people? Obama is looking more and more like George W Bush, the Republican Thief who stole the election by not counting all the votes in 2000. Obama will fail because a hypocrite will never stand the test of scrutiny descending on him.

The Florida vote should stand as is and it is Obama's campaign dragging on that. Why redo a fairly run primary? Just let the Dem Party allocate in a fair way

"The Clinton camp also argues that the Democratic candidate for president this year will pay the price for “disenfranchising’’ Michigan and Florida at the convention when the nominee courts those two states in November."

How do they figure that it's the candidates fault for disenfranchising voters? They had no say in the move of the primary dates. Why should this be Obama's decision? It's not his to make, but the party's. The Clinton campaign makes a pretty pathetic spin of logic highlighting their desperation.

For senator Clinton to advocate a redo in Michigan and in Florida is a clear example of her disregard for the rules if they don't serve her interests and a blatant representation of how she could behave if she was to be the democrat nominee.

If obama is the hold up, I don't understand why he claims she won both states because his name was not on the ballot in MI and he did not campaign in FL and not all the people voted because they felt their vote would not count. So now is his opportunity to make it good, but it seems he is afraid that he will lose both states, again. Well if he is not willing to approve MI, I say let the votes and deligates in both states stand as they were cast in January. He knows that there is a deadline for the decision to be approved by both candidates and is dragging his feet because he is too busy trying to clean up the mess he is in because of Wright. Well obama you lose on both counts. People don't believe your lies and the only ones that accepted your BIG speech today are the same lemmings that have been following you all along. Actually according to the comments in the difference blogs even some of your own race are now against you.

I think if there's some sort of do-over and HRC doesn't win by as big or bigger margin than before we'll still get complaints from the HRC camp that the original vote should count.

There is also some wrangling here by insiders who, like HRC, oppose the DNC's 50-state strategy. They want to see greater weight given to a few big states in order to protect their status. They want to continue to be the focus every election cycle.

What's the point? The point being you believe that the people of FL and MI should not be heard because the leaders in their states screwed them. Republicans votes in FL counted. It is only the DNC that is messing up the primaries in those two states.

Does HRC's ego know no bounds? She signed up to play the game and follow the rules, and it was clear to everyone that the delegates from Fla. and MI would not be seated due to the fact that they did not abide by the wishes of the party. Sure, it's too bad that those people didn't get to participate, but at the same time, they knew their vote wouldn't count as well as anyone.
Why is it that everyone involved here knew the consequences of their actions except the Clinton camp. If she was winning, she wouldn't have given a second thought to not seating these delegates, but now that she is clearly LOSING, suddenly SHE should get a do-over? Absurd.

If Hillary only wants a re-do because it will benefit her than the liar obama is not going along with it because he can't win these two states, so the deligates should be seated by the January results. Sorry obama go back to church and do some more praying.

Bill, don't waste you comments on this blog it is obvious that the people commenting here are so dazzled by the obama fairy tale glitter that can't see the man for what he really is, liar, racist. He out and out lied about knowing about Wright, and now is admiting that he had heard the racist comments and then compared it to his grandmother. Why would a white grandmother say racist comments in front of her half black grandson? Shame on you obama for forsaking your own grandmother that raised you.

You can call Hillary all the names you want, but Obama is not thinking long-term. If these elections in MI & FL were held, it's likely the delegate count would not be more than +10-20 for Clinton (MI essentially a tie; FL a Clinton win) - still leaving Obama with his small, but decisive pledged delegate lead. However, the MI & FL voters would feel they were part of the process. By going this passive-aggressive route, he is saying "F* you" to two big states the Dems need in November. Also, the convention will be an even bigger zoo than it already will be. Not smart, if you want Obama to win against McCain.

Harold pipe down. The delegations will be seated, Hillary just won't profit from it. You reap what you sow. :)

Why is it that most of the comments against Hillary are either misspelled, or poorly written? Could it be the IQ of Obama supporters? People obviously choose to spend more time bashing Hillary than educating themselves. By the way, if you have been to a caucus, that is extremely obvious!!

Why didn't Hillary Clinton says, prior to the Florida and Michigan vote that she wants to count those votes in the primary? Do those votes only count if she's behind? Also, I agree with B Leach, if they have a re-vote, so should California and Ohio. Hillary wasn't sure whether Obama was a Christian before Ohio, so we should re-vote now that we all know he is Christian. Go Obama!

Of course Obama does not want a re-do. What with Wright and Rezko, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that he will not win those states.
To the Obamaites: thou protesteth too much. If you are so sure of an Obama win, why not just do the re-vote?
As a Michigan resident, I want my vote to be counted and I sure will not vote for Obama come November if we don't get a re-vote.

Gee Hillary, maybe Barack just doesn't really like the idea of letting your minions in the Florida and Michigan state governments slapping together some kind of ballot box stuffing scam.

It would be nice if Michigan and Florida would just take some responsibility for their actions. You can't blame the voters - they had no say in when the primary was. But many did go out and vote - knowing it wouldn't count (I hope, because the thought that back then they figured they could whine and complain and get their way is a little scary - a country of 2 year olds voting...) Or they voted on the Republican ticket because it would (in Michigan at least). So what do you do with these voters?

Why waste the time? Let the remaining states - the ones that actually played by the rules - vote, for once have a say in the primary (so rare for places like Pennsylvania) - and let the DNC figure it out. If Florida and Michigan really want to hold it against Obama or Clinton come November, then let them suffer their temper tantrum.

Um, you do know that Obama wasn't even put on the ballot for the Michigan primary, so using January's votes, still would not be fair.

Clinton doesn't care about the voters in MI and FL. She only wants the "superdelegates" out of both of these states in order to attempt to overturn the will of the people (as evidenced by the "pledged" delegates count) at the convention. Obama is justified in his close scrutiny of a potential do over in MI in light of recent events where Republicans are crossing over to vote for Hillary with no intention of voting for her in the General Election. FL has already stated that they will not have a do over and the results of the primary in January will have to stand Well even Obama's six year old can understand that wasn't a fair primary. I am pretty confident that more than 33% of Florida democrats would have voted for Obama had he campaigned there and they had a chance to get to know him like the voters in IA, SC, NV and NH did.

Hooray for Hillary for looking out for the American voter and making sure they get to keep their Constitutional rights to vote.

The honorable candidate looks out for the rights of the millions of individual voters, regardless of whether their votes favor one side or the other.

To deny people their Constitutional rights is AntiAmerican and doesn't "unite". Although it does "change" things, but for the worse.

Let people vote, that's what I say. Stop the DNC and Obama's campaign from destroying the Democratic party.

Obama said he'd go by whatever the DNC decides (several times in fact) so how is that foot dragging?

BTW: Notice how the Obama haters have difficulty with grammar and spelling?

"Hillary wants a primary."

And she'll hold her breath until she turns blue if she doesn't get one?

In the immortal words of Linus, "Lucy, I believe queen is an inherited title."

Obama has said the delegates should be seated in an equitable way and it's up to the DNC to figure out how to do that.

Bill you say that Obama did not want the votes of MI and FL? If he did not want them, would he had said he will go with whatever DNC said and he will abide by it? By Clinton doing what she said told me one thing. There are three parties running here, Democrat, Republican, and Clinton. If she doesn't even abide by her own party rules, does that mean she is running her own party? And then asking MI to a do over? And who would be paying for all this? Is Clinton going to do that? And if she offered, is that the same as buying votes? Which is illegal? MI is having a touch enough time with administration changes and trying to get back on their feet financially. Yeah, Hillary is really thinking of MI and FL people. NOT!!!!

Obama is saying if you don't vote for him then you are a racist, when in truth it was Obama who sat for years in church subjecting his small children to racially tinged angry rhetoric.

He should be ashamed!

Barack was born into the family of his grandmother (who he conveniently threw under the bus).

Barack picked his pastor. One was by chance the other by choice

Wright is a man who said "god damn America" at a time when our troops (right or wrong) are dying for America in a foreign land. Obama did not distance himself from the man, instead he gave the same flowery speech about why we should all come together to make him president. He is a man who has poor judgement and he continues to lie to the American people.

First he says he wasn't in the church when Wright gave his hate filled sermon. Now in his speech he says he was there. He must know that there is something out there that places him in the pews during one of those sermons.

Nice try Barack!

Waahhh...

I didn't realize I was going to need MI and FL to beat this guy.

Waahhh...

"Blah-blah-blah-blah. Obama's doing this nefarious thing. Obama's doing that nefarious thing. Obama's ahead so he must be cheating. You do this, you do that. I have a chair. King of the castle, king of the castle."

Speaking of foot-dragging, how are those tax returns coming along, Senator Clinton?

I wonder if Hillary would be demanding a redo in Florida if she had lost there and the defeat didn't count. I bet she would be saying rules have to be followed.

Eventually voters in Michigan and Florida will freely cast their votes. In November! And they will massively vote against the DNC. If Obama is the nominee, then John McCain is our next President. Period. Obama still has a chance to win our heart if he just let Michigan and Florida count their already casted votes. Otherwise, Obama is forever finished with his political career.

Florida does not want to spend the money to have a proper Re-Do nor do they have the time, and especially the Leadership to conduct elections. Michigan wants to spend private money for a public election and the board of elections does not yet know how they would hold a Re-DO if they could. Stop the Drama Vote Obama, Change we can Believe in. Obama 08.

Hearing Obama's speech today made me very sad. I'm sad for the time we as a nation have lost.

I'm sad to think that America has been damaged for almost eight years at the hands of an arrogant and ignorant President such as George Bush. THOUSANDS dead, 650 BILLION wasted as thanks to his lies.

Now look who is the party of unity. Now looks who is the party with no strife, no disenfranchising of voters. The party who knows how to play by the rules. Yes my friends, that party is the GOP.

And P.S...this whole "Bush stole the election in 2000" is getting quite old. After eight years, one would think that the left-wing masses would understand facts. But if the facts aren't in their favor, then they won't support them. It's absolutely pathetic how bitter and petty the Democratic party is. Democratic politicians do not look out for the best interests of the American people, rather they look out for what their best political interests are to stay in office and in power, regardless of the negative consequences. Absolutely shameful.

New Democratic slogan: "Billions in earmarks for everyone!"

Great. There's one thing for sure. The voters in the two states have voted. Their votes must be counted. That is a given.

Now, if a candidate doesn't want to let them have their voices heard via a re-do, then assign the delegates to the candidate that has won the votes already tallied in each state. What is so complicated about that?

No one can screw up elections like the Democrats. Trying to please everyone, they please no one.

The appearance of incompetence is very high in Michigan and Florida. Buffoons is the word I'm looking for.

Seriously, are people in FL and Michigan really that big of foolish crybabies? It is NOT Obama's fault that your votes don't count. It is not necessarily YOUR fault either. It is the fault of whoever made the decision to go against SET, AGREED-UPON RULES. You believe there should be no consequences for breaking rules? I'm sorry that you are the ones whose votes are not being counted; I know this is not your fault, and I sympathize. But can you at least be sensible and adult enough to look at the situation and realize what and why this has happened? I mean.... can you? Can you you TRY? Can you not be ridiculous crybabies about it? ...And it always seems to be the Floridians who are moaning the loudest...

Saying Obama should be ashamed of his pastor is saying Obama supports his pastors thinking on race. He does not. There was a time in this country when black people were not allowed to live where they wanted to because of their race and that was in northern city's My parents participated in that behavior and Rev. Wright's cousin for all I know was the victim of that.

Ms. Ferraro was educated and made the silly, unprovable remark she made. Maybe a niece of hers was discriminated against because of affirmative action.

It is time for America to treat the past as if it were the past and to move on, led by the younger generation of which I am not a member. It is not those who bear the scars of the battle of the races but those who have been least affected who can move past racial barriers.

Any African American who says that American is as racist today as it was 40 years ago is not living in the country that I live in. I know haw much my thinking has evolved over the years.I now feel comfortable enough with my own racial attitudes that I would I discuss my own discomfort with affirmative action, heading into the future even though I believe affirmative action has been a benefit for both minorities and the majority.

But in no way should my opinions be confused with Keith who is intolerant of those who have been hurt by his parents or grandparents. It is time for each of us to move on.

This post leaves no doubt that Democrats, and particularly those on the Left have no clue about elections, voting, etc:

I support Michigan's right to a do-over. In fact, as a California resident, I think California should re-vote too. I live in a big state, and big states rightly have a bigger say in the nomination. There's nothing in the Democratic Party rules to prevent states from moving their primary later in the calendar year. Every state wants to vote early to influence the momentum of the election. Otherwise our important voices are disenfranchised.

California should be able to VOTE AGAIN???? Why? What would happen the second time that didn't happen the first time?
An election was held. Period. Done and over. YOu just don't keep having elections until you get the results you want.

Really, Left Loons, you folks are so ignorant and incapable, you really should have no right to vote. Institutionalization, though, makes more sense.

Hillary dragged her foot when she didn't get the paperwork in to get her name off the ballot in Michigan...when she had agreed to do so in advance of the first primary.

She will lose the nomination regardless of Florida and Michigan results...if they are done over or not.

"Clinton wins Nevada and gets one less delegate. Blows your mind...

The Republican party is looking better every day."

The Republican party of George Bush, who lost the nation by 500,000 votes yet one the presidency? You're talking about that Republican party, right?

Methinks you don't understand delegate systems.

Truth be told! neither senator Clinton or Senator Obama have enough votes to clinch the nomination it very unlikely that either will have enough pledge delegates come August thus the Super delegates have to come in to play and make the decision of who is the best candidate, a decision which should be decided by the voters of each state Florida and Michigan as well! Its time the DNC change its non democratic policies and have the American people decide who is the best candidate. Just a quick suggestion through the super delegates in the mix have them divided along the same lines the pledged delegate have been awarded and then let see who wins and please include Michigan and Florida based on there original primaries!

No Michigan and Florida didn't follow the rules. But all you people screaming about Hillary pulling out don't want to let her follow the rules, either. You want Obama to be crowned king -- but not all the votes have been counted yet. And it's in the rules, that superdelegates can back whomever they want.

Oh -- don't like THOSE rules, do you? You'd rather drink your kool-ade and rationalize away a candidate's complete and utter lack of good judgment -- and I don't mean Hillary.

OPEN LETTER TO THE DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL COMMITTEE AND THE AMERICAN PEOPLE

March 17th, 2008

Dear Gov. Dean and Democratic National Committee,

I appreciate the update email that you sent to me concerning the future of the Democratic Presidential candidate.

I look forward to the selection of our next President.

However, there are a few major issues that I want to speak about and I think you should take these problems seriously and DO something about the problems as well.

The first major issue that I'd like to point out is that the DNC is in the process of ALIENATING the Democratic voters in the states of Florida and Michigan by denying them the right to vote for their Presidential candidate of choice. This is not only un-Democratic and un-Constitutional, this is wholly Anti-American and unfair. I see that an attorney from FLA has opened suite today to fight for their rights, I'm not surprised. What a mess. Regardless of party rules, NO VOTING CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA SHOULD BE DENIED THEIR RIGHT TO VOTE FOR THE CANDIDATE OF THEIR CHOICE. THIS IS A SHAME TO THE DNC, and in my opinion you should be doing more to ensure that every American get their right to vote.

The second major issue is that of a candidate that has displayed a level of AntiPatriotism and AntiAmericanism so damaging, he should be ejected immediately from the race for being the next President. The candidate I'm speaking of, as you probably already know, is Barack Obama. Obama's association with those who seek to deliver our country unto the Apocalypse is only exceeded by the "audacity" of this individual's underestimation of the Patriotism that Americans truly represent and believe in. Barack Obama is not a patriot and is an Anti-American to the core. This man cannot be our next president. Through subtle displays of AntiPatriotism and the finale of ultimate distrust, Barack Obama has displayed a pattern of his true Anti-American character. It is impossible for Obama to divorce himself from 20 years of sitting in the pews of a church and being good buddies with a pastor that seeks whole-heartedly to deliver our great country unto such hate and complete Anarchy. Shame on Obama for underestimating the patriotic will of America. No makeup speech can vouch for this complete and utter failure in judgement and disregard for America. Obama is FINISHED. Sometimes members of a campaign fail in their ambitions and cross the line that should not be crossed. When this happens, the offender departs the campaign and the remaining people continue on to salvage the contest. In this particular case, the candidate himself has crossed the line, and so therefore the candidate himself must duly resign and leave the party so that the remainders can continue to carry on the Democratic National Committee towards the Presidency that is rightfully deserved.

Hillary Clinton has taken a beating, an unfair and drawn out beating that no Presidential candidate deserves, and yet Hillary has made it through to the other side. Hillary has stood strong, in the face of opposition, and in the face of repeated and undeserved attacks, again and again. It is for these reasons that Hillary deserves the crown of being our next Democratic Presidential Candidate. Hillary has passed the test of the endless pounding by standing tall against all odds and it is for this reason that she is most fit to take on Mr. McCain in the General Election.

Governor Dean and DNC, Please align yourself with that which is right. That which is our future. Align yourself in support of Hillary Clinton for President.

Obama's close pastor friend "Da*ns" America! Obama says he wasn't in attendence for the hate but has been the slanderous Pastor's good buddy for 20 years - OBAMA IS NOT FIT TO BE OUR NEXT PRESIDENT!

This is VERY SERIOUS NEWS for Patriotic America.
This type of problem makes it basically IMPOSSIBLE for Obama to be elected our President

Articles like these need to take hold:
http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/2008-03-16-obama_N.htm

And messages like the one below are ALL OVER the INTERNET! There are pages with 300+ comments with many that express American disagreement with Obama and his "If it's bad, I denounce it stance"

Add me as yet another American who sees through Obama's baloney. Time to clean house and get rid of the candidates that slander our beloved United States. Much Blood, Sweat, and Tears have been poured into making this country great and we're not going to put up with this type of hatred of the USA.

Obama is AntiAmerican and AntiPatriotic. This golden-throated promiser of good will has not passed the American Patriot test of heartfelt love for the land and our Constitution. By being AntiPatriotic, Obama has cursed the hundreds of thousands of Americans that have paid the ultimate price(of life) to make America the place that it is today. We've already suffered 8 years of a terrible president, let's not make it worse by electing a liar and hypocrite that is using the shame of the current president to ride to the top. America needs Patriots, not slanderers of our way of life.s

Michelle Obama slips and let's out the "Let's Hate America" sentiment that she studies at church:

Obama doesn't follow US code, and more importantly shows that he is not a heartfelt patriot by either forgetting or refusing(which is worse?) to place his hand on his heart during the playing of the National Anthem (although all other candidates have their hand on their heart):

And here's the link to the US Code which shows that government officials(as in senators) should place their right hand on their heart during the National Anthem:

and

The President is responsible for upholding the Flag of the United States. Obama's "refusing" to wear the flag on his chest shows there is a problem with his character as he's displaying the hatred he has for America and everything that has happened for the past 200+ years to make America what it is today. No childish game of defacing the flag should be tolerated by a person who is trying to become the #1 Patriot in the land. No person that desecrates our stars and stripes should be allowed the responsibility of protection our Constitution and our way of life. Ask Obama, if wearing the flag does not show patriotism, why are soldiers and presidents that are no longer with us having their coffins draped in the colors of the United States? Our United States Flag is no parlor joke, this is a symbol of America(that hundreds of thousands have died in protection of) that you're making seem like a "pin made in china".

"Minister of Controversy
Obama was not the only national African-American figure to cozy up to Wright. TV host Oprah Winfrey once described herself as a congregant, but in recent years has disassociated herself from the controversial minister."
Sounds like Oprah had the right idea. Perhaps Obama should have taken some advice from her.

Believe in separation of Church and Politics? How about Obama's Church? But then when a campaign works against two ENTIRE states loosing their right to vote in the Presidential Primaries, I guess an investigation by the IRS for breech of church-non-profit status is to be expected. Shame on Politicians that preach change and then run the dirty tactics in the background.

Everyone makes mistakes and flubs up, but when the same patterns of flubs continue to reappear, it becomes obvious what a person's true character is all about.

Denouncement after Denouncement - after awhile people should wonder how a person got themselves into the situation in the first place. Obama has run out of denouncements, it's time to wake up and denounce the Rat Obama America!

Please do America a service and get this problem into the open so people can make a more informed selection for President.

Don't belive me? Check the many many websites out there with 300+ comments of the same message.

American Citizen and Informed Voter

Shortsighted strategy??? How about running a kitchen-sink attack against the democratic candidate with an insurmountable delegate lead so that you can unfairly take the primary away from him and thus disenfranchising millions of voters across the whole country. Now that's shortsighted.

Hi Howard, you summarized it nicely, thanks!

Remember all the smaller states and caucus states which Hillary and her campaign stated were not being important and that they did not matter? They won't be voting for her IF she cheats/weasels her way into the nomination! An greater part of of the USA will not vote for her...hence, McCain will win. And all her race baiting, gender baiting, lies, distortions, smears, and trash-and-burn tactics will have been for naught. Then, again, maybe not, she'll have ruined whatever positive reputation she had left and will be seen as the most selfish, devisive, and hateful old hag who cost the democrats the election.

Adam- As laughable as I believe the Right Wingnuts are... you scare me even more. You'd rather listen to the band as the Billary Titanic goes down and splash the venom all over everyone else than actually realize that it's over. OK - fine by me. If Billary is successful in stealing the nomination, then John McCain has my vote.

Now, I know that you're feeling the exact same way. You'll vote for McCain if Obama is the candidate. Congratulations! Yeah America! Yeah Democratic party. I hope John doesn't do something crazy like start a war in Iran, but I figure that 4 years of him is worth it just to rid the DC area of the Clintons.

So, you and I both know that ever since "Super Tuesday", Billary was almost mathematically eliminated. There was no real way that she was going to catch Obama in 'pledged candidates'. Even with Fla and Michigan counted. Billary the Uniter went on the offensive and supported McCain - like any true Dem would? and you and the Lefty Loonies bought into it. Again, Congratulations - What did we win? 4 more years of GWBush policies. OK. I can live with it. 8 years, 12 years..works for me.

I've got to believe that HRC had no idea she wouldn't have had this thing wrapped up a long time ago, that simply being Bill's spouse wouldn't get it done. When that didn't happen the everything changed. Now she looks like an aging model surrounded by a flock of crippled birds, who has finally realised that she was never anything more than a pleasing shape. The best thing she could do for the this country is to sit down, cross her legs gracefully and ask her husband to fix her a drink.

Barack is like Bush, he didn't let the florida votes count either.

OK, how about this. Just hold a new Democratic primary in June and make it NATIONAL. Why, heck, even Republicans would get to have a say (since it's going to be a Democrat President anyway come November). Could even make it a TV American Idol style call in event. Then nobody can cry foul.

Hilary, do what you think is right. After that most offensive speech today, we know Barry or Barack Obama, he is an opportunist. He is right, no man is perfect, but I walked out of services when my spiritual leader tried to engage me in hate. I wrote a letter to the President, along with others and he was not renewed. He was not my friend...he did a disservice to my country. I may not be born here, but I am an American first.

Maybe the DNC has the right to strip two states of their delegates, just as the Supreme Court had the right to stop the recount in the 2000 elections. It IS the rules, and blind deference to rules is apparently what we want from our givernment.

But do not pretend that disenfranchising millions of voters is ever okay or just. Or that this is anything other than a case of a candidate who expediently ignores voters who cannot help him win vs. a candidate who fights for the disenfranchised.

Once again, people only like rules when it suits them. Hillary has every right to go after superdelegates. It's part of the rules.

Oh! I see. You don't like THOSE rules. The rules only count when it comes to Florida and Michigan, not when it comes to this pesky little irritant called "democracy." Yes, that's right, the one that says DNC designated superdelegates for a readon -- so they could vote with whoever they wanted, NOT the one with the most marbles.

The "rules" everyone keeps going on about are that any primary held too early (i.e., too close to IA and NH) wouldn't count. There is NOTHING in the rules that said that there could not be a caucus or primary later (as long as it's before a June 10). That's it - those are the rules. The rules state that Clinton's January "wins" in MI and FL don't count b/c they are too early; there is absolutely nothing in the rules about having a vote later. It's like the MI and FL earlier votes never happened - which is why they don't count.
http://www.democrats.org/a/convention_2008/delegate/

Finally, my point was for Obama, forget about Hillary. He is being short-sighted, if he wants to win the general election. Telling millions of voters "your earlier votes don't count" (correctly) AND footdragging against a new, counted vote in June (ill-advised, IMHO) is just not smart. It almost guarantees the Dems will lose another close FL vote and puts MI unnecessarily in play.

Hillary is just trying to create a legal argument on why she should be president. Before the voting all the parties (HILLARY INCLUDED) agreed Michigan and Florida wouldn't count because they moved their primaries up.

Now that Hillary is losing she wants to change the rules. IF SMELLS FISHY IT PROBABLY IS FISHY.

Here we go again, Hillary throws a hissy fit. The DNC doesn't appear to have the gumption to state that rules are made to be honored, rules were established, agreed to, and tough luck Hillary, it is what it is. If the DNC is not going to abide by the rules either, then they might as well change their name to "RNC". If Hissy-fit-Hillary hassles and hisses her way to be the Dems nomination, then goodby Democratic party. The GOP will strip her down to her bones with slash and burn charges of corruption and they will gladly hand over their documentations they have been gathering for eons.

Rob, Senator Obama DID NOT make the rules! The DNC did. Furthermore, ALL the candidates, agreed to the rules; if Hillary had a problem with them, why did she wait 18 full months before complaining?? Now, we all know why. She lost her "inevitability crown" and found herself far behind...her solution?? These states should have "redos" and the delegates should be seated. Bottom line, when things don't go Hillary's way, she whines and whines and whines. FACT, those states didn't start complaining UNTIL HILLARY STARTING WHINING! If the situation were reversed, none of us would have ever heard of primary "redos" in these states.

By the way, the voters in FL voted 70 percent against having a redo. I am sure they understood Hillary was not in the least concerned about them, she was bellering to get the delegates to serve HER purpose and NOT that of the Florida voters. People in the entire United States have seen Hillary at her very political best: Lying, Distoring, Hating, Smearing, Racist, Gender baiting, and slash-and-burn tactics. She & her campaign boasted about how they were going to throw the kitchen sink at Mr. Obama just before the Texas and Ohio primaries. The fact that you stand by her speaks volumes about you.

After Obama's "lecture" to the American people today, Democrats will lose the Presidential elections in November. Perhaps that is what the Democratic party secretly wants. They want to keep the House and the Senate and lose the White House.

John, Senator Obama has abided by the DNC rules, something ALL the candidates agreed with. It is Hillary who is NOT abiding by the rules. A full 18 months (l YEAR AND A HALF) later AFTER she discoveres that her evitability crown" is at her feet instead of on her head she starts screaming, IT'S NOT FAIR!! WHAAA, I WANT MICHIGAN AND FLORIDA TO REDO THEIR PRIMARIES! WHAAA, CAN'T YOU SEE I'M LOSING? WHAAA, CAN'T YOU SEE I NEED THOSE DELEGATES SO I CAN LIVE IN THE WHITE HOUSE AGAIN?? WHAAA.

Hillary and her tactics are disgusting!! She has run a shoddy campaign, she has run on lies, distortions, grossly embellished "experience", lies, more lies. Hillary is not only a poor excuse of a woman, she is also a poor excuse of candidate. She has sold her heart and soul to the devil in her unsatiable hunger for power!! Someday Hillary will have to answer for all her wickedness!

Wow, and to think that at one time in my life, I liked the Clintons.

My mom was right - with age comes wisdom...

Contact everyone you know in Pennsylvania and ask them to support Obama! Let's end this fiasco in April.

B Leach, what a novel idea and then California can vote strictly for Senator Obama!

Thank you for making my day!!
