The furor over Boeing's lost tanker deal has followed Sen. John McCain overseas.

A union representing 25,000 Boeing workers, including some who work at the company's manufacturing plant in Wichita where final tanker assembly would have been done, issued a press release timed to McCain's visit to France, home to EADS/Airbus, the firm that beat out the Chicago-based plane builder.

The International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers accuses McCain of unfairly favoring a foreign firm for the contract, one of the biggest defense contracts in history.

It wants the Republican presidential nominee-in-waiting to open his office files on the Boeing/EADS face-off and it questions why McCain asked for the removal of bid language that would have penalized EADS for receiving government subsidies.

McCain has defended his actions in the controversy, saying that he wanted to ensure that there would be competition for the $35 billion contract, which Boeing had been favored to win.

Lobbyists connected to his campaign who formerly represented EADS had no influence on his actions, McCain has said.

McCain has been on an extended foreign trip, visiting Iraq, Israel and Jordan, and stopping today in England, where among other things he met with Prime Minister Gordon Brown and was scheduled to hold a fundraiser in London.

He then moves on to Paris, where he's slated for a meeting with French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

The overseas jaunt has given McCain a chance to call attention to his foreign policy expertise, a presumed strong point in his White House campaign. That expertise took a hit earlier in the week in Jordan when McCain mistakenly said Iran was training Al Qaeda fighters for service in Iraq.

Iran is believed to train and equip insurgents in Iraq, but Al Qaeda is a Sunni Muslim-dominated organization and an enemy of the Iranians, who are overwhelmingly Shia Muslims. McCain quickly corrected himself after a whispered prompt from Sen. Joseph Lieberman, I-Conn, one of his traveling companions.

Not that I feel bad for Boeing as a corporation, but this is just a preview of what McCain would do to the rest of the country. But, he won't, because Obama will win.

"THE CHAIRMAN SPEAKS"

I said no more questions, I said no more questions.

This is a four-part plan derived from $100,000,000 from the Katrina Funds.

My part was as "THE CHAIRMAN" to be lobbyied to make sure 38 billion u.s. turns in to 58 billion u.s. by converting 38 billion into EUROS at the American taxpayers employment expense.

Do the math, someone, please. Just no more questions regarding my relationship with Vicki or anyone else that will chair in my cabinet.

Look what I did for AT&T or VERIZON WIRELESS. Look what I did to QWEST for not playing ball.

Look what our former AT&T CEO did for the American Mortgage Industry.

We eventually got $2.00 a share and it only costed 276 million dollars to do it. Almost as much money as Homeland Security got to build DENTENTION CAMPS IN Florida.

As your next President, I will not be like Nixon, I've already SOLD American Interest all around the world.

Anyone up for a flight in a SESNA from Martha's Vineyard to OHIO.

America, if you elect this crazy old man (McCain), you'll get what you deserve, 100 years of never-ending war in Iraq, a war with Iran, someone who busts unions and someone who farther destroys the already tanking economy aka a third term of George Bush.

Headline of article: "Boeing Union rips McCain over Airbus Deal".

More accurate headline: "Left Wing Labor Union rips McCain for standing up to the special interests"

It's an old and very powerful company, but it's hard to take any group seriously when their name is a sound effect.

As near as I can tell, Americans got what they wanted regarding NAFTA, globalization, and de-industrialization.

This was a Reagan/Bush project. Ron produced position papers in the 1980 election cycle calling for NAFTA, de-unionization, and to convert to a service economy. (WalMart - $8.50 per hour)

All following US governments, Dem or Republic, have pursued this policy with vigor.

But, he won't, because Obama will win.

Rick : Your delusional if you think Barack Hussein Nobama will even get the nod. This racist bigot will be declared as a candidate who is unelectable by the party elders and you'll never here from him again. This empty suit huckster is toast and down deep inside you know it and most Americans are also aware of it. Dream on you fool.

Sorry Hussein, most Americans with a modicum of intelligence know NAFTA was pushed through by the great democrat Bubba Clinton...so where does that leave you? It pains me terribly to always have to educate morons like you on the left.

But, C.Morris...

I saw the Reagan/Bush part about NAFTA, but not the President (pervert) B.J.Clinton part, who tweaked it alot to get the Mexican, Hispanic vote and SIGNED it in 1993!

Nice try C.Morris...go back to your liberal drawing board...

'typical white person,'
Paulo

Wingnut morons:

I may have missed it, but I don't recall the Republicants taking steps to get out of/change NAFTA during the many recent years when they controlled the entire U.S. Govt. You folks never miss a chance to prove how phony you are, do you?

Now this should be the issue of the day: whether it is better for American's to save money by getting the lowest bidder from a foreign country, or to generate jobs and, thus, tax revenue by paying a higher price here at home.

The answer to that is worth debating.

Instead, the issue of the day and over the weekend will be Obama's three dirty words: "Typical White Woman."

And so Obama loses, and Clinton is left (no pun intended) to take on McCain's pragmatism.

Pragmatism is good during good times. In times of economic stress, overspending soothes the savage citizen best.

What about the 3 EADS lobbyists that are part of McCain's campaign?

McCain did have ALOT to do with the loss of the Tanker deal to Boeing. Every step of the way he forced proposal changes to suit airbus's plane, every time disadvantaging Boeing, who was developing on their own dime. Not subsidized by foriegn governments. Which by the way is one thing McCain pushed the Pentagon to not consider! He's not saved the taxpayers any money, if anything he is costing us more! and he's spending our military tax dollarssupporting foriegn workers. Republican, as I am I will NOT vote for McCain!!!!

Don B, Paulo,

NAFTA, globalization = Big Business Wet Dream.

The biggest lie told by the R's about Clinton? 'He's a liberal'.

Further;
"All following US governments, Dem or Republic, have pursued this policy with vigor."

That's me.

In several other posts recently, re. the economy I have said Clinton signed the bill and both parties backed the whole endeavor.

I have also tagged him, along with the Republics for passing the telecom nightmare in 96.

This whining is a real hoot. Boeing is assembling its 787 Dreamliner in the US; however (just like the Airbus tanker), the 787's wings, tails, and fuselages are manufactured overseas.

Boeing's union is a bunch of idiots if they think they can make hay of this.

All McCain did was make sure that Boing couldn't get Airbus disqualified from the RFP, which is what Boeing wanted. Airbus' proposal gives the air force A BIGGER TANKER FOR LESS MONEY. Yes, that's right, the product was simply better. Boeing knew this so they tried every dirty trick in the book to get the EADS/NG deal disqualified. Even though Boeing gets the same government assistance through tax breaks that EADS enjoys.

McCain, thank God, wouldn't let that happen. If you think Boeing is making a good product and not trying to rip the American taxpayer off I suggest you talk to its former CFO. He's in federal PMITA prison because the of the original Air Force tanker deal.

If only Boeing would've put as much work into putting together a great tanker as they did in trying to get the competition unfairly disqualified then they may've had a shot. Why, ask yourself, was Boeing so afraid of an open bidding process?

If Boeing hadn't cheated on their last contract, with obviously inflated costs, they would have probably won the contract this time. They were so comfortable with the fact that they were the only fully American company who could complete the contract that they padded their contract to fill their own pockets with extra taxpayer money. The employees should be complaining to Boeing, not to McCain. As is, the work will give jobs to US workers, it will just be run by a foreign company (which happens to be more honest than Boeing).

As for the silly "Iran couldn't possibly support both Shiite and Sunni extremists" argument, actually, Iran training Al Qaeda HAS been widely reported in the news. McCain meant to say extremists since right how Hamas and Hezbollah are a big concern too, but his original statement was accurate. Look at the 9-11 Commission Report, page 61 or The New York Sun 11/14/06, or USA Today 4/11/07, The Guardian 5/22/07, and on and on.

But, he won't, because Obama will win.

Scared Don? What, exactly, about Obama scares angry, hateful, bigotted white men like you? Is it because he is smarter, more eloquent, and, yes, nicer? We will see who the fool is, fool.

If the Union is angry with anybody, they should be angry with the corporate corruption that lost them the contract.

This is akin to family members blaming the police because a relative got picked up for a crime. Blame the people lost the contract, not the Senator who saved US citizens billions of dollars.

The funny part is that the airbus plane will not be cheaper. Everyone keeps talking about a better deal for the taxpayer. By the time we pay for training flights for a larger plane, rebuilding hangars and runways for a larger plane and the billions of tax dollars going to the European econonmy where all the highest paying jobs will be, there is NO WAY this is a better deal for the American taxpayer!
