The Swamp

by James Oliphant

Sen. Barack Obama has secured the support of another governor, Christine Gregoire of Washington, in advance of that state's Democratic caucases Saturday.

Gregoire is the ninth governor to endorse Obama. Perhaps more significantly, given the gender gap between Obama's supporters and Sen. Hillary Clinton's, Gregoire is the third female governor, along with Janet Napolitano of Arizona and Kathleen Sebelius of Kanans to do so.

“We must restore hope in America," Gregoire said. "We must put an end to politics of division by gender, race, and faith. Barack Obama has a unique ability to reach across all the artificial divides and divisions to move our nation forward. At a time of great division in our country, we need a leader who will unite us. Barack Obama is that kind of leader."

Gregoire joined Obama at a rally in downtown Seattle today. Interestingly, both of Washington's senators, Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray, have endorsed Clinton.

We'll see if this endorsement has the same effect as that of the Kennedy clan.

If the democratic nominee, Obama will unite the republicans around his amature effort, while Hillary would divide them through her nearer-right positions. But this is just the beginning, Obama would also unite the republican party around his strong muslim background, the muslim middle name he hides; and all the extra, hidden information they have access to. Obama is totally leftist, at least Hillary is to the right to a limited extent. The republicans have a better shot at winning, if they face Obama, because then they will have a full party to use toward winning the election.

It is time that the Governors of this great nation stop supporting Hillary who does not have a moral compass. We need somebody who is new and refreshing.Besides, we dont want the Billiarys in the White House again.

Hey PC,

Thanks for revealing your complete hatred for all muslims, even though Obama isn't one himself. Jesus would be proud of you.

Do you even know what the translation of Hussein, his middle name is?

It's "beautiful child", and it is used by many Muslim families.

Besides, wasn't King HUSSEIN of Jordan one of the biggest friends of the US in the Middle Easts??

People like "PC" make we wish this site had a "report to admin" button. These lies have been promoted all over the net and it's only jerks like PC that still promulgate them.

Here is the deal, Dems. If you want 4 years of John McCain, then just vote for Hillary. If you'd like us to win back the White House, then you'll need to vote for Obama.

I found 8 Republicans to crossover in Iowa, to stand up for Barack. How many do you think were casting a pro-Obama vote? All of them. None were willing to "waste" their vote to try and tilt the election toward Hillary, so McCain could defeat her in November. No; they were all wanting "Change We Can Believe In".

It's so simple -- just study the electoral college, figure out who can meld the most blue and red states into "purple States", and what states will go Republican with Hillary but Dem with Obama, and you're set. Hint: The spread is 3-6% in favor of Obama over McCain, and 3-6% in favor of McCain over Hillary.

I am a TrueBlue Dem and I can hardly tell the difference between McCain and Hillary.

Obama is totally leftist, at least Hillary is to the right to a limited extent. The republicans have a better shot at winning, if they face Obama, because then they will have a full party to use toward winning the election.

This is the SWAMP. Take your amateur analysis elsewhere.

If anything, it is Hillary who will unite the Republican party and lead the Democrats to defeat in November.

Obama is clearly the Democrat's best choice in November.

As for "totally leftist" philosophies, it is Hillary, not Obama, that wants to cover you with healthcare whether you want it or not.

Comeback after you've sharpened your analytical skills at the Sun Times website.

Of all things it is sad that there are people still willing to buy into what a man's name will say about his political agenda. If Obama's father had not named him, his name would be Smith or Williams, or Jones, and would this matter to the Obama haters? I humbly submit that it would not matter at all. There are still people that would choose to believe any possible negative they can gleen from any source in order to not believe in Obama. This guy is the "real deal". I have done a great deal of research and I have found very few inconsistancies in Obama during this campaign. Clinton, on the other hand, has offered inconsistancies at every public forum and debate

Seems like no matter what the people in power do to endorse a candidate, their influence is having nil effect on their constituents, following the results of Tuesday's 22 State Primaries and Caucuses. I think for the first time in a long time people are making their uninfluenced opinions count. The mudslinging, as always, is out of hand.
Moreover, since the primary is so close, I think it is in the Democratic Candidates' best interest to make stops in the Maryland Democratic hotbeds, like Baltimore and Prince George's County. Face time in-state is one thing, but delivering a stump speech in the particular areas where constituents can be swayed is possibly far-reaching. Thus far, basing my vote on what I've seen and heard, I'm watching CNN on the 12th to see how the candidates fared.

PC is not only un-PC, he's also simply wrong. I'd spell it out for you, PC, but your mind seems made up, and I don't want to get karpal tunnel typing out all of the reasons why Obama could change the country's direction while Hillary would maintain its demise. Oh, and you spelled amateur incorrectly. Ironic?

Since the article notes that Washington's 2 senators, Cantwell and Murray, have endorsed Clinton II, I did a quick check of the DNC Swamp. As you might expect, the Swamp didn't write an article on Cantwell's and Murray's endorsement of Clinton II.

The reason the Swamp wrote an article on Gregoire's endorsement of Obama, but didn't for the other two endorsements of Clinton, is that they're Obama's shills.

Like obiwan1250, while I was at the polls in Glendale, CA, 3 Republicans came in that wanted to vote Democratic. They could not, and I assume they were wanting to vote for Obama, not Clinton.

And all but one independent voted Democratic, again presumably for Obama given the trend in support for him among independents.

You REAP what you SOW, Wingnuts:

The hens have come home to roost!

Alright - enough of the barn yard analogies!

I want to take a look at something happening right under our noses that is cause for great celebration.

For the past 30 years the Republican Party has sliced and diced the electorate. They have refined the identification of specific "issues voters" to high art. They court the scary Christian tribes with promises of delivering the Second Coming. They assure the Family Values crowd that they will outlaw those evil Gays who lurk around every corner. They scare the shit out of people in Podunk (pop. 678) with threats of terrorists eating their children.

They jumped the shark and started a terrible war and now they are warning that if they can't go on playing soldier, while lining the pockets of their lunitic buddies, America will fail and Life as We Know It will end. They have bankrupt the treasury, driven us in to debt so incredible that our grand children will still be paying, and sold the nation piece meal to anyone who could come up with a justification for destroying the economy.

They rest of us stood around, at first totally nonplussed at the sheer absurdity of it all. We were slow to recognize the insidious nature of this Rovian Grand Plan. We just couldn't believe our fellow citizens could be so stupid. But they were. They bought the entire car load of fear and God and Patriotism.

But serious cracks have begun to appear.

There has been no Second Coming. Gays continue to win in the Courts and the court of public opinion. The war is a widely acknowledged mess and Bush's approval ratings are as low as ever. The economy can no longer manage the rape and pillage of Republican management. And the entire world has noticed - finally.

We saw the beginning of the great awakening in the Republican primaries, last night.

Inspite of his stump speech, John McCain has not been a fan of the sheer irresponsibility of the Bushies. They really, really, don't want him to win. He was responsible for the reduction in the power of the vast funding machine the R's had relied on to get their divisive message out. He is busily reliving the Viet Nam war and wants to substitute unending combat in Iraq for the failure of that previous adventure. He attracts old veterans, people who haven't noticed his age, and those easily confused by claims of what constitutes strength.

Mitt Rommney, a real slick piece of political shillery, has no friends - he's an outsider. He is outside that cozy little clique that thinks they should remain in control, and he has managed to only attract those few R voters who have some glimmer of the real state of the economy. No matter how he swirls and twirls he can't corral enough of the factions the R's have spent decades grooming, he's never been able to raise the big bucks, and he has to decide how much of his kids money he is willing to throw away on this vanity run.

Mick Huckabee thinks women should have no decision on reproductive rights, but that he is free to decide on evolution. He wants to impose the single most regressive tax imaginable, destroying any possibility of building that Bridge to Nowhere. He is, in many ways, a progressive candidate who places more emphasis on Global Warming, the poor, and a fair distribution of resources, than anyone who has claimed to be a Republican since Nelson Rockefeller. He is the logical outcome of courting the Religious Right and making promises that will never be kept. They have produced their own candidate and he has no interest in BushCo policies.

It a three way split!!

Big War. Big Money. Big God. The three groups that have been lied, and scared, and cheated into joining the coalition to Rule America is coming unglued.

They may come together, eventually, but the divide and conquor strategy of Lee Atwater and Karl Rove has produced a fracture in the structure of the Republican Party that will not be easily healed. The threat has always been there. We kept waiting for the swell of recognition that would enlighten these poor abused voters. It would appear that it has finally happened. Each has choosen a candidate anethma to the Republican Party structure, and they have lost control.

Myself, I look forward to President Obama taking office in Jan 09....I can already hear the sound of Wingnut heads exploding everywhere....YES!!!

Those of us who support Senator Obama don't need to attack Clinton. She is doing herself in just fine, thanks. ("No more years" - for Clintons in the Whitehouse.)

Granny Doc,

Great post! A realistic assessment and indictment of not only the last 7 years, but of those who voted for it and those who stood by "nonplussed".

And written with just a sprinkling of cynicism..well done.

Bottom Line:

Like all of you. I know that health care is the most critical, and important issue facing the American people. Now, and in the coming elections. And like the vast majority of the American people, I want HR 676 (Medicare For All) passed into law NOW! "Single payer, Tax Supported, Not For Profit, True Universal Health Care" free for all as a right. Like every other developed country in the world has. See: http://www.house.gov/conyers/news_hr676.htm

“HR 676:
For church goers: less money to insur. companies and more to the church- lots more.
Srs on Medicare: save way over $100/wk. Because no more medigap, long term care & dental insur. needed. No more drug bills.”

But if we the American people fail to bring enough pressure on our current politicians to get HR 676 passed into law before the elections. We will have to identify, and replace all the politicians standing in the way of passage of HR 676. And, I think the best first place to start is with the politicians that blocked the bipartisan SCHIP bills for the kids. Passed by congress four times.

But what about the President. It was Bush after all that blocked the bipartisan SCHIP bill passed by congress to assure more health coverage for Americas kids. So which of the presidential hopefuls do I think will be most supportive of implementing the demand of the majority of the American people to have HR 676 (Medicare For All) passed into law immediately!

We have some very fine presidential candidates who would make good presidents. But none of the top Presidential candidates directly support HR 676, the only true Universal Health Care plan. So I am supporting Hillary Clinton. She is the only top candidate that has ever actually fought for universal health care before.

I have enormous admiration, and respect for Hillary Clinton. She fought a pitched battle against overwhelming odds back in 1993. To prevent this disastrous health care crisis that is now devastating the American people, and America. She fought so hard for the American people that she risk almost completely destroying her husbands presidency. I haven't forgotten her heroic effort. If any Presidential hopeful for universal health care deserves my support, it's her.

Also, if we the American people fail to bring enough pressure on our government to give us HR 676 which we all so desperately need NOW! Then we will need the most skilled politician we can get on our side to broker the best health care plan for the American people that we can get. Though it will be less than we need, and less than we deserve. The politician I think to best do this is Hillary Clinton. The Clinton's are probably the most skilled politicians in American history.

The insurance industry, and medical industry that has been ripping you off, and killing you has given Hillary Clinton so much money because they fear her. They have also given Barack Obama so much money because they fear Hillary Clinton. They think they can manipulate Barack Obama against the best interest of the American people better than they can manipulate Hillary Clinton. There is no race issue with Hillary Clinton. The Clinton's are the poster family for how African Americans want white people to be towards African Americans.

As always, African Americans are suffering, and dieing in this health care crisis at a much higher rate than any other group in America. The last time there was any significant drop in the African American death rate was when Bill Clinton was president.

My fellow Americans, you are dieing needlessly at an astounding rate. In higher numbers than any other people in the developed world. Rich, and poor a like. Insured, and uninsured. Young, and old. Men, women, children, and babies. And we the American people must stop it. And fix it NOW! Keep Fighting!!! Never! give up hope. There are millions of lives at stake. Bless you all... You are doing great!

Does BobinATL think Saddam "Hussein" was a [beautiful child] too?

Let's face it....anybody named Barack "Hussein" Obama must be a muslim and is not fit to lead this great nation founded by Christians and Jews.

Besides that, he has no experience compared to Sen. Hillary Clinton or President McCain.

This comment is directed to "Paulo". So you think Obama is not fit because he "might" be Muslem. Well at least we have made some progress in america, because you at least didn't feel he was unfit because he is "black", or maybe you feel he isn't fit for that reason too, but are afraid to say that? And all in the name of the "Christian" faith too, what a "hypocrate" you are,,,shame on you Paulo

Let's face it....anybody named Barack "Hussein" Obama must be a muslim and is not fit to lead this great nation founded by Christians and Jews.

Besides that, he has no experience compared to Sen. Hillary Clinton or President McCain.

Your schtick has lost it's shock value, you need to come up with something new.

Here's an idea:
"Just Say NO To Drugs"

~Mrs Ronny Raygun -1984

It amazes me that socalled Christians use hate as a political tactic thereby making themselves non-Christians. As they might remember, Christ taught to love your enemies. It is no great feat to love your friends. As Gandhi taught, you love the person and adhore their actions or words - and try to help your opponent to see how changing themselves might improve their lives and others around them.
The other day I ran into someone who professed to believe Senator Barack Obama was a Muslim. Although this is erroneous, it allowed me a chance to explain that Muslims (not terrorist extremists who falsely proclaim their actions are faith-based when killing is not something condoned by the Muslim faith) believe in the same God as Christians and Buddhists and Jews and Taoists and Hindi.
One of the remarkable things about Mr. Obama's candidacy is that he attracts Independents and Republicans mainly because, I think, of his character and authenticity as a speaker.
Mr. Obama spoke at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta last month to commemorate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I watched the video and saw the same fine intellect and heart of compassion and faith that Dr. King gave the world.
What's important here is that Senator Obama does not arouse antipathy from the Christian right as Senator McCain appears to do. This may well be the single most important reason why he would be a better unifying candidate that Senator Clinton.

I just want to say GrannyDoc is center on target; whereas poor Paulo is showing his ignorance attacking Obama's Name, religion (alledged)and not addressing any of the issues that face all Americans, black/white/Christian,Jewish,Buhdadist, and yes Muslims. Pay attention, learn something about your surroundings. We all are facing unprecedented chalenges with global warming, the same crumbling economy, the same insane war. Pay attention!
