YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Saying that wherever he goes he hears struggles of hardship, Sen. Barack Obama emphasized a populist economic message this afternoon, as he started his campaign for Ohio's March 4 primary.

"If you are ready for change, we can start restoring a sense of fairness to our economy," the Illinois Democrat told an audience his campaign said totaled more than 6,000.

Obama then mentioned a titanium company he visited this morning. He called it "RTI," before getting some help from members of the audience, who told him it was "RMI." (Obama's campaign says the company's parent is RTI International Metals.)

It was during a tour of the titanium company, in nearby Niles, Ohio, where Obama donned a pair of safety glasses and walked past welding stations and melting furnaces.

The factory's clients are primarily related to the aerospace industry or the military.

Making his way through the plant, Obama veered toward a station where hot ingots emerge from a crucible and asked, “What’s going on here?” Later, shaking hands with workers in hard hats, he said, “You’re helping our country. You’re helping our defense industry. It means a lot.”

When a reporter asked about his safety glasses, Obama replied, “They are pretty spiffy, I’ve got to admit.” He soon took them off.

As a few workers stood around before Obama held a news conference, Terry Thomas, a 20-year veteran of the plant, said he did not know much about Obama. One thing he had heard, however, was that Obama failed to place his hand on his heart during a patriotic moment.

"If that's true, he doesn't have my vote," Thomas said.

The photo Thomas was referencing was one that has circulated on the Internet for months. It shows Obama standing next to a giant American flag, while other presidential candidates have their hands over their hearts.

A Swamp post from November with Obama's explanation of the photo, which he has called a campaign "dirty trick," is linked here.

At the rally in Youngstown, Obama criticized the nation's trade policies, including the past support of the North American Free Trade Agreement by Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York.

"If you believe in change, we can reverse that," he said. "I believe in capitalism. I believe in the free market…But there is something wrong with CEOs making more in 10 minutes than ordinary workers are making in an entire year."

Obama also took a few shots at Republican front-runner Sen. John McCain of Arizona, as he has been increasingly prone to do in recent days.

"We don't want to be the party of yesterday," he said. "We want to be the party of tomorrow. That's why I'm running for president of the United States of America."

Obama is scheduled to return to Wisconsin late this evening for a rally.

In the meantime, he is doing a series of satellite interviews this afternoon with local television stations there, as well as with one station in Minneapolis that covers the rapidly growing western Wisconsin exurbs outside the Twin Cities. He is also doing interviews with several stations in Ohio and Texas, both March 4 primary states.

Obama also continues to be questioned about Clinton's challenge to participate in more debates. It was the first question he was asked by a local reporter at a press conference this morning at the titanium company.

In response, Obama pointed to debates during the next two weeks in Texas and Ohio. "That will make 20 debates that we've had so far," he said. "It's very important for me to talk to voters directly…she may feel that's not necessary."

Why is a talk that mentions that CEOS make in 10 minutes more than a worker makes than one year in Post-Reagan America being a populist? Not that I have anything wrong with a 'populist' message--but why label it before we read it? Are you telling us that it's somehow 'hokey' to read about someone who cares for those who labor for a living?

Looky here everyone!

Jeffy is beating that dead horse as much as he can because he knows that his guy, Crazy McCain, wouldn't stand a snowballs chance in hell against Obama this fall.

Here's Jeff in action:

Probably the first time Senator Boy Wonder has had safety glasses on his life, let alone a hardhat.

Its the CEO that creates all those jobs. If the wrokers don't like that job, they can always find another one.

McCain is going to melt like a snowball? This a guy who spent five yrs. in a prisoner of war camp. I believe it will be Obama who melts under pressure. Or at least runs like a two bit Chicago drug dealer when the cops headlights shine on them. Kind of like a cockroach!!!

Joe's comments are offensive and should be removed!

Wow! A "Senator Boy Wonder" who cannot seem to write his won speeches." (Never mind the fact that he wrote two award-winning books ON HIS OWN in the last two decades!)

Is this all the Obama-haters have? Nothing but vitriol for a phenomenal candidate such as Barack Obama? Well, it sure sounds like sour grapes to me. Where does all the bitterness come from
Jeff, Terry and Steve S?

The hundreds of thousands of people who have cast ballots for Sen. Obama are proof that Americans are tired of rich old men sitting in Washington, playing war game. They are tired of Republican leadership enriching their contributors at the expense of the dwindling middle class. They are tired of small minded ideologues selling fear of difference, fear of terrorism and fear of intellect. They've transformed that fear into political action and that is what people like Joe fear.

c j,

Yeah, and then McCain came home and said that he was against torture because of his Vietnam experiance and promptly flip-flopped and voted FOR torture, he then promised Americans 100 more years in Iraq on top of that.

McCain will even lose to Hillary if it comes down to that but against Obama he'll lose in a landslide and he knows it.

I think the country really has Clinton fatigue. Besides Clinton doesn't match up as well against McCain as Obama, despite the Clintons stating the opposite.

John McCain may claim he knows war and foreign policy, but to keep U.S. troops in harms way, to be maimed and killed over political errors in judgement??? The most obvious rebuttle Obama could use to that is, "The best way to keep our troops safe is to get them out of Iraq, like when President Reagan withdrew U.S. forces from Lebanon in 1984."

Keep in mind that the playing field has changed tremendously since 2004. Polls show that Americans want the Iraq War to end. Polls show that Americans believe the tremendous financial costs of the Iraq War are leading us into an economic recession.

Don't forget that Barack Obama's likely VP running mate will be Virginia Senator Jim Webb, the Vietnam Veteran who was Secretary of the Navy under President Ronald Reagan. That'll signficantly bolster Obama's national security credentials.

If Hillary Clinton is John McCain's opponent, McCain will have a much easier time winning due to the fact that Hillary is despised by about 50% of the electorate. If Barack Obama is McCain's opponent, McCain will have his work cut out for him.

In the 2000 GOP primary campaign, George W. Bush didn't get into specifics. John McCain got into specifics. Bush won. In the 2000 general election campaign, Bush didn't get into specifics. Al Gore got into specifics. Bush won. In the 2004 general election campaign, Bush didn't get into specifics. John Kerry got into specifics. Bush won.

The American electorate doesn't seem to care too much about hearing specifics. Hillary Clinton has been laying out specifics in her Democratic primary campaign and it hasn't worked very well. Obama has been using a more generalized optimistic change theme and it's worked extremely well.

If Obama gets the Democratic nomination, he'll have the creme de creme of Democratic policy advisers getting him primed and ready to get into specifics when needed during the general election campaign. Obama will be more than able to out-debate McCain by the time September rolls around.

Its the CEO that creates all those jobs. If the wrokers don't like that job, they can always find another one.

And the CEO's company would produce NOTHING without the workers.

It should be a partnership, not feudalism.

Well said Delores
We are in a Republican recession brought about by Republican fiscal irresponsibility partly due to a Republican Middle East Crusade to secure oil profits.

Also a Republican president that wants to cut Medicare benefits so as to preserve the Republican tax cuts for the Rich. And don't forget the Economic Stimulus package - Republicans were against helping the unemployed and helping with heating bills.

FWIW I voted for Hillary in the FL primary but now lean toward Obama. I WILL VOTE FOR EITHER ONE IN THE GENERAL ELECTION OVER ANY REPUBLICAN! ... and I was a registered republican for 17 years.

The current regime borders on the criminal. The real issue is getting them OUT.

Delores...I fear nothing! I am very happy with my life and I LOVE our GREAT country. However, I'm tired of people like you and your liberal friends that spend every waking moment of your life trashing this great country. Do I wrap myself in the American flag?..you're damn right I do!!! I, like most hard working "white men" who pay all the taxes in this country are tired of you scumbag, free riding liberals. You take full advantage of the freedoms afforded to us all in this country and give nothing but hatred in return. God Bless America and God Bless a GREAT president...GEORGE W. BUSH!!!!! Have you noticed how GWB is being received in Africa? That's because our Liberal media has not had their typical influence on Africans like they do on Democrats.

Joe, you missed the point. And BTW, we progressives love our country too. You don't own it and we are going to elect Obama. Your party is going down in flames come November, and the takeover of Congress this last round was just the beginning.

GWB can only get good press when he leaves the country giving hundreds of millions of dollars to AIDS and war-torn victims. That is where your tax money is going or at least less than 1% of it. Why don't you do our country a favor and go move to some intolerant country like Iran? Your follow the regime disposition would do well there.

As for the article itself, it is trying to capture the issue that Obama faces with blue collar workers. Obama must address this issue but I think he will do so and do well despite all the ignorant idiots like Joe that run around in the Republican party.

Joe, I think you've been reading too much Ann Coulter. Also I'd suggest not reading her before bed, so you get a little more sleep. Bedtime is not the time to stress about all the liberals who hate America.

No, people can't "just go get" another job...years ago, yes, but after NAFTA??? You've GOT to BE kidding!!!
JOE, how would YOU LIKE IT IF it was some (or ANY) of YOUR family in New Orleans...YOUR president had enough feeling for the troops in Afghanistan that supplies were dropped THE NEXT DAY AFTER THEY ARRIVED, yet they couldn't drop food and water to the people (AND I'M SURE THEY WEREN'T ALL ON WELFARE!!!) in New Orleans until the end of the week!!! You seem VERY smug...there but for the GRACE of GOD go YOU!!!And if you think the current administration is so great, a little while ago they were saying on MSNBC how the troops requested an armoured vehicle that had extra protection for the troops and the request "got lost" in the chain-of command and by the time the troops FINALLY got them, 700 MORE SOLDIERS HAD DIED!!!! YOU CAN SAY WHAT YOU WANT...PEOPLE AREN'T FORGETTING THE COLD, SEEMINGLY UNCARING ACTION OF YOUR PRESIDENT FOR THE LAST 7 YEWARS, AND NOW IT'S TIME TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT!!!!!!!

Joe, I think you've been reading too much Ann Coulter. Also I'd suggest not reading her before bed, so you get a little more sleep. Bedtime is not the time to stress about all the liberals who hate America.

MLD,

Why can't people "go get another job"? Who is to blame, the gov't or the individual? Who s/b resonsible for the one's own job skills - gov't or individuals? Then again, where did most people learn their job skills before they enetered the market place? That's right, thru the gov't leed educational bureaucracy - another "well done" job by the gov't.

Looks like the Bush/Mccain crime family is out in full force tonight.

We should be concerned with Obama's bill taking billions out of the USA when we have needs for healthcare, homelessnes, education, recession:
ELECTION 2008
Obama bill: $845 billion
more for global poverty
Democrat sponsors act OK'd by Senate panel
that would cost 0.7% of gross national product.

Instead of hearing rhetoric from Obama we should be discussing his record. For example:

more for global poverty
Democrat sponsors act OK'd by Senate panel
that would cost 0.7% of gross national product

Sen. Barack Obama, perhaps giving America a preview of priorities he would pursue if elected president, is rejoicing over the Senate committee passage of a plan that could end up costing taxpayers billions of dollars in an attempt to reduce poverty in other nations - like in Africa.

Mako -- huh?

I am actually an Obama supporter well-versed in his accomplishments. Judging from your confused comments, perhaps a Klan junior high degree is out of YOUR reach. . . .Please re-group and try again.

I know something about hard hats. I'm an MSW now, but I was a sheet metal apprentice in the early eighties. It might do Obama good to ask about that hazzards that go alone with jobs that require hard hats--safety issues and how they are addressed at plant sites as well as construction sites. It was all too easy if one became careless handling sheet metal to loose a finger or two. Everybody talks about 'bread and butter' issues plant, manufaturing and construction workers, but there's something to be said about safety. Whichever candidate can touch on this issue collects more blue collar votes.

Hey when the going gets tough, like when your private school gym teacher is mean to you, we already know how Obama reacts. He "does a little blow" to get his mind off things.

That book is just a treasure trove. I sure hope he's the one who actually wrote it. Can't tell for sure, now.

Speaking of debates...I found something interesting on Wikipedia about Austan Goolsbee, Obama's chief economics advisor. In addition to his extensive credentials as an economist, he was a top debator at Milton Academy and at Yale. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austan_Goolsbee

So maybe Clinton would like to debate Goolsbee as a stand-in? Just a thought....

Folks,

On the topic of Clinton v. Obama and unions, populism and working class issues, why isn't it a big story that Mark Penn, her chief strategist, is the CEO of a P.R. firm that prides itself on its union busting?! I'm not a whack-job conspiracy nut, this is well established:

http://workingcalifornians.com/tags/mark_penn

...and a reference from well-respected author Paul Loeb, who wrote Soul of a Citizen (see #7):

http://www.opednews.com/articles/opedne_paul_rog_080131_a_dozen_reasons_why_.htm

I just don't get it. This should be a big story, no?

David

I have to laugh when I hear the phrase "class warfare" used to describe any American candidate these days with populist ideas.

This election is really Obama versus the Democratic Leadership Council of Bill, Hilary, and Joe Liberman.

The current bipartisan system finally broke when the Democratic Leadership Council's policies took hold within the Democratic Party. The DLC was formed during the Reagan years to push the Democratic Party to the right. Hilary and Bill Clinton, Joe Lieberman, and other such luminaries have been proponents of these DLC policies. Basically, the DLC's goal was to get more corporate money for the Democrats. To do so, of course, meant that they had to have politics that would attract that money. Most prominently, labor was thrown under the bus.

Now, there has been, and is, a party that occupies that political space: the Republicans. And, indeed, nobody is surprised that the Republicans have advocated their policies. However, the difference is, the Democrats have been increasingly on board with these policies. So, in many ways, on these domestic policies, we have had a one party system.

And what has happened to this country since Reagan? There has been a systematic, incremental attack on the working class and poor of this country. (Yes, I said "poor", but that term has left the political language as well). NAFTA has been passed that with disastrous consequences, jobs have been outsourced, H1 visas have been used to bring in cheap engineering workers, utilities have been deregulated that have resulted in soaring consumer prices, government oversight was gutted that allowed for the Savings and Loan criminality of the 1980's, the insurance companies/health care industry has been allowed to systematically plunder America, the Federal Reserve abdicated its responsibility of oversight in the home-lending market, and the new bankruptcy laws that are pressing harder on Americans, just to highlight the consequences to this country.

Compare the current attitude with that which existed at the end of World War II, when legislation was passed that created the GI Bill that provided free college, money was voted for VA/FHA loans that provided affordable housing, and the government enacted large public works projects that resulted in the interstate highway system. A little later, Medicare was passed that supports the senior population.

So, when I consider the term "class warfare", I say that if there has been class warfare, it is pretty clear who has been winning by looking a the casualties on the battlefield.

Hilary will never vote to rescind Bill's Nafta Treaty. Nor will she repudiate the DLC's influence. Obama is your only hope.

Terry's all for individual responsibility for the worker, but nary a peep from him about the CEO's who drive their companies into the ground and walk away with multi-million dollar buy out packages. No condemnation for the ridiculous salaries that CEO's of companies that are losing huge amounts of money.

Take GM. Losses last year: $38.7 BILLION.

GM CEO Rick Wagoner's compensation last year went up from $5.5 million to $10.2 Million.

Terry thinks that's the way it should be. Resposibility is for the little people. After all, we should all be willing to saacrifice to make the wealthy even wealthier.

THERE IS NO CHANGES WITH OBAMA EXCEPT THE MEDIAS HELP AT HIDING HIS RECORD OF SUPPORTING THE WAR AND BUSH. WHAT OBAMA SUPPORTERS ARE AFRAID TO REALIZE. "Senator Obama has some questions to answer about his dealings with one of his largest contributors, Exelon, a big nuclear power company. Apparently he cut some deals behind closed doors to protect them from full disclosure in the nuclear industry."Obamas record shows he supports the war, voted twice in 2006 against bringing America's troops back home. He voted for war appropriations giving our money to Halliburton and Blackwater. His latest bit of posturing S 433 allows the Bush Administration to suspend any troop withdrawal!!!!if not suspended, still keeps the troops in Iraq for a long time to come? Obama when faced with tough choices always gave in to pressure from the Bush administration or corporate lobbyists. Such as Obama voted for Bush's energy bill, sending more than $13 billion in subsidies and tax breaks to oil, coal, and nuclear companies. Obama voted with Republicans to allow credit card companies to raise interest rates over 30 percent, INCREASING STUDENT LOANS RATES AND FEES increasing hardship for families. Obama voted for one of Bush's top priorities - expanding Nafta to South America - even as President Bush obstructed all the top Democratic priorities. Obama voted with Bush to make it harder for ordinary people to hold big corporations accountable when they do things like sell toxic toys, poisonous pet food, human food or just plain rip you off. Obama was the Senate's biggest Democratic advocate of subsidies for liquid coal, even though liquid coal produces twice the global warming pollution of the crude oil it's meant to replace and voted for increased subsidies, albeit with conditions.Obama a Hamiltonian believer in free trade and supporters of globalization has lent his support to the "Hamilton Project formed by corporate-neoliberal Citigroup chair Robert Rubin and other 'Wall Street Democrats' to counter populist rebellion against corporate tendencies within the Democratic Party. Obama provided assistance to pro-war candidates (such as Joe Lieberman). Obama voted for "business-friendly 'tort reform' bill that rolls back working peoples' ability to obtain reasonable redress and compensation...from corporations!!! Obama considers single payer universal health care too socialist and has stated that he prefers voluntary solutions. **He voted against requiring medical care for aborted fetuses who survive. Abortion opponents see Obama's vote on medical care for aborted fetuses as a refusal to protect the helpless. Some have even accused him of supporting infanticide. He supported allowing retired police officers to carry concealed weapons, but opposed allowing people to use banned handguns to defend against intruders in their homes. And the list of sensitive topics goes on. With only a slim, two-year record in the U.S. Senate, Obama doesn't have many controversial congressional votes which political opponents can frame into attack ads. But his eight years as an Illinois state senator are sprinkled with potentially explosive land mines, such as his abortion and gun control votes. recent land purchase from a political supporter who is facing charges in an unrelated kickback scheme involving investment firms seeking state business. Obama has no substance. He has provided no solutions.

I'll take your moronic comments one at a time:

1) "Do I wrap myself in the American flag?..you're damn right I do!!!"

Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel- Samuel Johnson

2)"like most hard working "white men" who pay all the taxes in this country are tired of you scumbag"

Your implication is that no African Americans "work hard" (or other minorities for that matter). What made you such a bitter racist? This bitterness against a class of people is how Hitler got started. But from some of your other postings, I'm not surprised.

3)"Have you noticed how GWB is being received in Africa?"

You can't be serious. Any American president or other diplomat, goes to these places for "photo shoots" and goodwill. Any of them will be "received" with smiling faces and welcomed openly.

Oh, and did you notice that the Kenyan president practically endorsed Barack Obama for president? Oops, guess your "conservative" media missed that.

Poor Jeff/Bill,
Can't talk about what John McCain's vision for America is, so he has to beat the "plagiarism" horse. I wonder if McCain came up with all his ideas or if they were gift wrapped and given to him by conservative think tanks? Oh well, he'll probably put his name on them and you won't say a peep about him passing off other peoples ideas as his own.

4,000 dead soldiers sure sounds like geting attacked to me. Why should they care to fight us here? Bush's cowardice in the face of the enemy is what lead to the immoral occupation of Iraq. Bush's war of choice is also responsible for the hatred in other nations that lead to the bombings in London and Madrid.

Oh, and the Clinton administration tried and convicted the conspirators of the first WTC bombing. That's really all a just nation should do. Not start full scale, pre-emptive wars with countries that "did not" attack us.

People should realize that when they post extremely longwinded posts, nobody will read them. Brevity brothers... brevity!!!

Obama's going to wind up being one of the if not the best president this country has ever had!

When the right wing dirt bags come to the Swamp to parrot RNC talking points, are they not guilty of plagiarism?

There are two types of thinkers in this world. One is the secure thinker who is willing to look at new ideas and approaches, and is willing to try to work "outside the box" for good change. This thinker often is more intelligent and very capable. The other thinker is not necessarily a secure person and wants things to be done in the same old tried and true ways. This person is afraid that if change is made differently, it may not work.

If we plug these concepts into our present-day political races, we can see some patterns. Whoever wins the race for the Presidency will at least be an OK President. This is not because of the person, but mainly because of the group effort of his/her cabinet, advisers, etc. Rarely do we have an impotent administration like the present one, wherein Bush is not only not that intelligent, but he won't listen to anyone. He thinks he is correct in whatever he does. Most people know they're not perfect. He doesn't!

Sometimes our government can do OK with the staid, tried and true approach, but we usually need the more forward-looking, willing-to-look-at-all-angles approach that helps us find new and better ways to solve our problems. And, we usually cannot find a Presidential candidate who can and knows how to do anything more than what is mediocre.

McCain is a great war hero who should be acclaimed and thanked, but he's living in the last century. And, Hillary, who is very intelligent, is stuck in her generation's way of doing things. Obama, on the other hand, is very highly intelligent, able to look at different angles and to think "outside the box." He is exactly what our Country needs right now in order to find a successful way out of the Bush mire.

It is rare to find someone who is secure enough within himself to be able to reach out and over, so to speak. In reaching out to everyone and in uniting, Obama proves he's a real leader who is not stuck in current societal mass thinking.

There is nothing empty about Barack Obama and nothing rookie about someone who dares to stand out in order to help others. Obama is just as experienced as Hillary. Her experience riding on Bill's coattails is not experience. She has never lead anyone before. So, I think the experience thing is a non-issue.

If we want a mediocre thinker who only knows how to do mediocre things, we need to pick Hillary. If we want a strong leader, who will inspire and pick inspiring types of cabinet members and advisors to surround him, we need to pick Obama.

The highly educated people, who are supporting Obama are doing that for a good reason. The more poorly educated people, who are supporting Hillary, are doing it because they're afraid of things they don't know or understand. And, some of these people want Hillary solely because she's a woman...never mind what kind of a woman.

I'm hopeful that the majority of the people in our great Nation will pick the correct leader.

CEOs create the jobs? In China, maybe. CEOs in America have demonstrated a talent for enriching themselves with sweetheart compensation deals and golden parachutes but few have shown any talent for running a company or creating jobs.

Jimmy Carter brought alot of change to the Country in 1976. Just hold on to your wallets when Obama gets in office. Look how the Illinois democrats run Illinois. Obama will tell you how proud he is of his record in the Illinois senate. Just look at all the taxes Obama voted for. And the state is still 700 million in the whole. Maybe Obama can tap Stroger Junior for budget director, and put Emil Jones as Energy Secretary. Then the whole country can feel the pain of Chicago.

People should realize that when they post extremely longwinded posts, nobody will read them. Brevity brothers... brevity!!!

No, YOU won't read them because YOU have a narrow world view and YOU're afraid a "long winded" post won't fit YOUR narrow world view.

What do you mean by a phenomenal candidate Condoweezza ?
He has not a truly outstanding political background. On the contrary, his dealings with Rezko shows who he REALLY is.
Did you know that Rezko borrowed millions of dollars from the federal government with false information, for his Housing projects in the black neighborhood areas of Chicago ?
Those apartments complexes
were never rehabilitated according with quality standards and many of them lacked of heat furnaces FOR YEARS. The black tenants complained for years to no avail.
Obama and the law office where he worked at the time
helped Rezko to cover up such problems.
And he didn´t care about his own people. He didn't give a damn !
Obama is a neoliberal and globalizer; and that is the reason why the media is singing Hossanas to him.
" Cartoon heros are the making of the media."
This all is a make-believe.
He can be handled like a puppet by big corporations,self-interest political groups, think tanks and mainly the media.
With all his much publicized rethoric, it seems that really he's borrowing slogans, stealing ideas and proposals, and worse, plagiarizing the works of others, because he has no ORIGINAL ideas or proposals of his own.
He is just repeating the words of others.
" MONKEY SEE, MONKEY DO. "

I still don't get it. You get more specifics from a fortune teller then you do from Obooba. He has something to say about everything and has an answer for nothing. Face it Democrats, you screwed up! You got caught up in the hype around two senators that are known for everything else then their political accomplishments. The best candidate you had is no longer in the running. So it truly shows that the important thing is not to get the right candidate in the office it is to get the one that make you feel good. Way to be responsible.

"Hey when the going gets tough, like when your private school gym teacher is mean to you, we already know how Obama reacts. He "does a little blow" to get his mind off things.

That book is just a treasure trove. I sure hope he's the one who actually wrote it. Can't tell for sure, now."

Hey Jeff...Bill Clinton did the same thing in office, and lied about it. Can you remember her name...it was Monica if you forgot.

This whole news article is about nothing! Barack tours a plant and puts on a hard hat and safety glasses more than likely because that is the plants rules for visitors, and it makes headlines!

Let's talk about the issues...like...Hillary crying for the cameras...Bill's infidelity...the fact that she's only been a Senator since 2001 (Obama Illinois Senator 1997-2004, Senator 2004 to present)

Obama did not rise up from the ashes of Paul Simon to become the next political superstar. He wrote a book and then people learned he was a senator. The democrats are riding the building wave of his “POP”ularity. They are playing with your emotions to win the presidency. Someone said it right, with the support of the right people anyone can make a good president. But who is going to pick Obama’s people? He has not been in the business long enough to create the bonds to make a good administrative staff. What will happen then? The party will “help” him pick his people. The politicians that everyone wants to break away from with the cry of “change” will be smack dab in the middle of the decision making. Give him time to earn his way there. Let’s find a leader for the position, not a party.

JOE, how would YOU LIKE IT IF it was some (or ANY) of YOUR family in New Orleans...
Posted by: MLD | February 18, 2008 9:21 PM

MLD: Just in case you were out of the country when Katrina hit, all the male democratic bus drivers beat feet out of the chocolate city, along with their racist mayor, They were suppose to evacuate the citizens of New Orleans, compound that with the incompetent Gov. who did nothing for three days, presto you now have a disaster. True to the democratic style, the federal gov. has to take care of every aspect of their lives, like small children.

And now millions r needlessly killed by the US war machine
Posted by: opp | February 19, 2008 8:35 AM

opp: Please reference your ridiculous figures on the U. S. war machine,....i bet you can't.

4,000 dead soldiers sure sounds like geting attacked to me.
Posted by: suj | February 19, 2008 9:53 AM

suj: Just in case you didn't complete the fifth grade , getting attacked is what happened to 3000 poor souls at the twin towers, the 4000 deaths were fighting a war that was authorized by the U.S. congress.. do you get it now suj ?

The guy that wrote this statement about Obama

"Or at least runs like a two bit Chicago drug dealer when the cops headlights shine on them. Kind of like a cockroach!!!

I bet hia mother knows a lot about running away from cops like cockroach from being a WOMAN OF THE NIGHT OR HOOKER."

Posted by: Don B. | February 19, 2008 2:56 PM

And a 3rd grader knows you don't attack a soveriegn nation that never harmed you.

And my point was, we sent our brave young men and women to "get attacked", for no good reason. 9/11 was an "act of war", but not from Iraq. Of course, "war" is different than a terrorist attack. But when you invade, the other side is going to attack back.

"Probably the first time Senator Boy Wonder has had safety glasses on his life, let alone a hardhat.

Its the CEO that creates all those jobs. If the wrokers don't like that job, they can always find another one.

Posted by: Terry | February 18, 2008 6:07 PM "

No Terry, you're wrong.

It's the CEO who ships the jobs overseas to save a buck or two, screwing Americans here at home.

Rev. William Hayashi

Obama and his wife are just plain scary! Followers think he is offering them nirvana when in truth he is offering them them the chains and serfdom that comes with socialism.

"If Obama gets the Democratic nomination, he'll have the creme de creme of Democratic policy advisers getting him primed and ready to get into specifics when needed during the general election campaign.".-Logic Prisoner.
Okay, I'm a Democrat, but who do we have that we could call "creme de la creme" in the way of foreign policy advisors? Would this be the geniuses from the Clinton Administration. Everyone know Clinton foreign policy is just what the world needs......

Hey Luke, if a CEO makes $100,000 or a $100,000,000 does that really effect you? Look at this way - he pays more taxes with the latter.

A CEO's contract is not your business nor my business unless we are shareholders of the company. Do you want the gov't involved in personal pay contracts?

As far as your unemployment situation - go improve your skills and get a job. Maybe John E can get you in at MickeyDs?

Suj - Yeah that arrest job by the Clinton administration really did a job on future terrorism activity in this country. If only FDR had gone over to Japan and arrested those Japanese pilots that bombed Pearl harbor, we never would have entered WW2 and invaded Germany (a country that never did anything to us anyway).

Rev - stick with Good Book because you know nothing about economics. How about theose CEO's at Exxon-Mobil, MicroSoft, Apple, Home Depot, At&T, etc... that create all thos jobs.

Thanks terry, for proving my point. Personal resposibility is only for the poor in your opinion.

You're more than happy to weigh in on what the minimum wage worker makes (too much, right?)but how dare anyone question the cmpensation of a CEO of a dismally failing company.

Luke - you have no point.

Personal Responsibility is for ALL.

The CEO is responsible for his well-being just as hamburger flippers, such as yourself, are responsible for their own.

Why should the gov't get involved in the CEO's pay contract or the hamburger flippers'?

You are getting to be as silly as Trickled On Math Whiz John E.

Terry-

Isn't the CEO responsible for the well being of the company? Isn't he or she responsible for doing their job well?

You give the CEO's credit for "creating jobs" but you don't critize them for failure.

The corporate brainwashing has worked well on you. Management is always right. Workers greed is the cause of all business problems.

Yes the CEO is responsible for teh well being of the company. They are responsible for doing their job well - just as the hamburger flipper is.

CEO's screw-up, never said they didn't. Have worked for one that did and 100's lost their jobs due to it.

My point is that employment contracts are a private matter between employer and employee and not the gov'ts business nor mine nor yours.

If a failing CEO gets an 8 figure severance package - it may be obscene to me, but its not my problem unless I am a shareholder.
