With recession-fearing Michigan voters entering the voting booths today for the Republican primary there, Gov. Mike Huckabee announced a five-point stimulus package that he says "would guide my economic policymaking on behalf of all Americans."
Much of the package, such as, "I will cut burdensome red tape," is hardly policy heavy. In fact the "five points" are: Family, Fed, Fight, Fuel, Fair.
However there are some specifics:
* Make all higher-education tuition tax deductible.
* Oversee a Federal Reserve that adopts a "pro-growth, low-inflation policy."
* Increase defense spending to 6 percent of GDP. [Defense spending is currently about 4 percent of GDP. It has not been at 6 percent since 1972.]
* Recruit and train "thousands" of troops and "bring our National Guard and Reserves back home."
* Build a fence along the US-Mexico border "with American labor and American materials."
* End U.S. dependency on Middle Eastern oil by January, 2019.
* Preserve and expand the Bush tax cuts.
The last one about the tax cuts is a short-term solution for Huckabee, who wants the country to do away with the Federal income tax and adopt the FairTax, a national sales tax of 23 percent or 30 percent, depending on how you calculate it.
"However, I recognize that passage of the FairTax will not happen overnight," Huckabee said in announcing the package. "In the meantime, I will eliminate the Death Tax, and seek to reduce counterproductively high personal and corporate marginal tax rates."

I would say all the above points should be proof, once and for all that this guy is a SHAM!

No body else can build a fence - this man stands on his word...wake up...fair tax - FULLY read about it with an open mind not a negative mind.
Death tax - about time!
tuition tax deductible - about time!
Now about the oil...again wake up especially the tree hugging people. With the technology we have proven today we could take a very small area and drill enough to take care of any needs the US has for oil WITHOUT going overseas - all while leaving a very small footprint...one word...DUH!
don't like that idea - start walking to work and paint yourself green then.
GO HUCKABEE!!!

Andy,
You must be pretty damn rich to support repealing the "death" tax. It affects only about the richest one or two percent, you know. You must also be pretty damn rich to support a regressive sales tax. Of course the word for Huckabee, who claims to care about the poor while rolling out programs like these is hypocrite. Or maybe just liar.
BTW, show me a 50 foot fence and I'll show you a 50 foot ladder. Or a tunnel.

Why is there so much anger comming from the conservative elite, greedy multinational corporations and liberals that subscribe to the Fabian Society way of thinking toward the man that brought his state new jobs, better schools, improved roads, and left his state with half million dollars surplus, a conservative that was re-elected in a Democrat controlled state?
Mike Huckabee is the only candidate that is able to relate to all people regardless of party affiliation.

Fair Tax would kill the economy.
Huckabee will usher in the next Great Depression.
You can't encourage the FED, it's an independent actor. it snubs congress (which created it) why would it listen to an executive that can't touch it?

Huckabee's policy points are both specific and bold. He aims high with his desire to achieve energy independence in 10 years. Some say it can't be done. But I'd rather vote for someone who has a bold vision than for more of the same.
In the 1940s we had the Manhattan Project. We also, in the space of a few years, were able to increase the production of airplanes by 1,000 fold. In the 1960s, we were challenged to reach the moon.
If we hava an inspiring leader like Mike Huckabee, and put our minds to it, the American people can achieve great things once again.

If people would take their heads out of the sand they would realize that we are already in a depresion and the only way we can energise our economy is by encouraging small business', which the fair tax will do.

John McCain Does not support Tax cuts!
“Mr. President, as senators begin debate on the budget, I want to briefly discuss why, at this time, I cannot in good conscience vote in favor of tax cuts, irrespective of their size or to which segment of the population they are targeted.”
Statement on the floor of the senate - March 18,2003

Roger, the "free trade" he's talking about is no different from the policies Bill Clinton enacted in office. Democrats loved them back then, why are they verboten now?
PoliticianNYC you left out the part where McCain says he can't support the tax cuts without spending cuts to match them. It's ridiculous to spend your government further into debt and lower taxes at the same time and McCain was the only R with the stones to say it. It's still stupid. During the Reagan years we had spending cuts to match the tax cuts, not so with the GW Bush administration.
Cut spending, then McCain will talk tax cuts.

"During the Reagan years we had spending cuts to match the tax cuts, not so with the GW Bush administration."
You're kidding right?
Total Federal Budget went UP during the Reagan years. The spending cuts didn't match the tax cuts, that's why the deficit soared under Reagan.

Higher education tuition should not be tax deductible - it will just run up the cost of education. As soon as the gov't gets into subsidizing, the price will go up. - See the effect of student loans has had on tuition costs.
"Oversee a Federal Reserve that adopts a "pro-growth, low-inflation policy" - I don't even think Obama would say differently.
Defense spending increase is good overtime - should increase salaries of soliders and marines first. This will solve the next issue he list.
Build the fence - good.
End US dependency on Middle Eastern Oil by 2019 - should add Venezula. I would like to see details.
Preserve and Expand the Bush Tax Cuts - he should kill the "Fair Tax"
He may not be my first choice, but I know he is better than three lawyers and their three lawyer spouses that are running under the jackass banner.

Uhmm, letting people keep their own money is not subsidizing.

It's obvious folks have not read The Fair Tax book. It's a must read for everyone American that gets screwed in their paystub. The current system is a sham, and The Fairtax is WAY better. I want government OUT of my paycheck.

The FairTax is about the only thing that would save us from a recession at this point. The explosion of economic growth, combined with making American exports much more competitive worldwide would make our country an ideal place for businesses to set up shop. We would even be able to get some of those Michigan manufacturing jobs back that McCain insists are gone forever.

Higher education is no different than any other product or service when it is introduced to a third-payer - the price goes up - look at health insurance or primary and secondary education

He has never voted to raise taxes.
He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
He has never taken a government-paid junket.
He voted against the Patriot Act.
He voted against regulating the Internet.
He voted against the Iraq war.
He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.
Just listen to what he has to say. You speak of Freedom, Life and the Liberty of Justice, Dr. Ron Paul can help save our Nation!

Don’t believe one optimistic word from any public figure about the economy or humanity in general. They are all part of the problem. Its like a game of Monopoly. In America, the richest 1% now hold 1/2 OF ALL UNITED STATES WEALTH. Unlike ‘lesser’ estimates, this includes all stocks, bonds, cash, and material assets held by America’s richest 1%. Even that filthy pig Oprah acknowledged that it was at about 50% in 2006. Naturally, she put her own ‘humanitarian’ spin on it. Calling attention to her own ‘good will’. WHAT A DISGUSTING HYPOCRITE SLOB. THE RICHEST 1% HAVE LITERALLY MADE WORLD PROSPERITY ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE. Don’t fall for all of their ‘humanitarian’ CRAP. ITS A SHAM. THESE PEOPLE ARE CAUSING THE SAME PROBLEMS THEY PRETEND TO CARE ABOUT. Ask any professor of economics. Money does not grow on trees. The government can’t just print up more on a whim. At any given time, there is a relative limit to the wealth within ANY economy of ANY size. So when too much wealth accumulates at the top, the middle class slip further into debt and the lower class further into poverty. A similar rule applies worldwide. The world’s richest 1% now own over 40% of ALL WORLD WEALTH. This is EVEN AFTER you account for all of this ‘good will’ ‘humanitarian’ BS from celebrities and executives. ITS A SHAM. As they get richer and richer, less wealth is left circulating beneath them. This is the single greatest underlying cause for the current US recession. The middle class can no longer afford to sustain their share of the economy. Their wealth has been gradually transfered to the richest 1%. One way or another, we suffer because of their incredible greed. We are talking about TRILLIONS of dollars. Transfered FROM US TO THEM. Over a period of about 27 years. Thats Reaganomics for you. The wealth does not ‘trickle down’ as we were told it would. It just accumulates at the top. Shrinking the middle class and expanding the lower class. Causing a domino effect of socio-economic problems. But the rich will never stop. They will never settle for a reasonable share of ANYTHING. They will do whatever it takes to get even richer. Leaving even less of the pie for the other 99% of us to share. At the same time, they throw back a few tax deductable crumbs and call themselves ‘humanitarians’. IT CAN’T WORK THIS WAY. This is going to end just like a game of Monopoly. The current US recession will drag on for years and lead into the worst US depression of all time. The richest 1% will live like royalty while the rest of us fight over jobs, food, and gasoline. Crime, poverty, and suicide will skyrocket. So don’t fall for all of this PR CRAP from Hollywood, Pro Sports, and Wall Street PIGS. ITS A SHAM. Remember: They are filthy rich EVEN AFTER their tax deductable contributions. Greedy pigs. Now, we are headed for the worst economic and cultural crisis of all time. SEND A “THANK YOU” NOTE TO YOUR FAVORITE MILLIONAIRE. ITS THEIR FAULT. I’m not discounting other factors like China, sub-prime, or gas prices. But all of those factors combined still pale in comparison to that HUGE transfer of wealth to the rich. Anyway, those other factors are all related and further aggrivated because of GREED. If it weren’t for the OBSCENE distribution of wealth within our country, there never would have been such a market for sub-prime to begin with. Which by the way, was another trick whipped up by greedy bankers and executives. IT MAKES THEM RICHER. The credit industry has been ENDORSED by people like Oprah, Ellen, Dr Phil, and many other celebrities. IT MAKES THEM RICHER. So don’t fall for their ‘humanitarian’ BS. ITS A SHAM. NOTHING BUT TAX DEDUCTABLE PR CRAP. Bottom line: The richest 1% will soon tank the largest economy in the world. It will be like nothing we’ve ever seen before. and thats just the beginning. Greed will eventually tank every major economy in the world. Causing millions to suffer and die. Oprah, Angelina, Brad, Bono, and Bill are not part of the solution. They are part of the problem. EXTREME WEALTH HAS MADE WORLD PROSPERITY ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE. WITHOUT WORLD PROSPERITY, THERE WILL NEVER BE WORLD PEACE OR ANYTHING EVEN CLOSE. GREED KILLS. IT WILL BE OUR DOWNFALL. Of course, the rich will throw a fit and call me a madman. Of course, their ignorant fans will do the same. You have to expect that. But I speak the truth. If you don’t believe me, then copy this entry and run it by any professor of economics or socio-economics. Then tell a friend. Call the local radio station. Re-post this entry or put it in your own words. Be one of the first to predict the worst economic and cultural crisis of all time and explain its cause. WE ARE IN BIG TROUBLE.

About the 1% club 'tax revenue' defense. ITS A SHAM. If the middle and lower classes had a greater share of the pie, they could easily cover a greater share of the federal tax revenue. They are held down in many ways because of greed. Wages remain stagnant for millions because the executives, celebrities, athletes, attorneys, and entrepreneurs, are paid millions. They over-sell, over-charge, under-pay, outsource, cut jobs, and benefits to increase their bottom line. As their profits rise, so do the stock values. Which means more money for the upper class who own a giant share of the market. My problem really isn't with the upper class in general. But as more United States wealth rises to the top, the middle and lower classes inevitably suffer. This reduces the potential tax reveue drawn from those brackets. At the same time, it wreaks havok on middle and lower class communities and increases the need for financial aid. Not to mention the spike in crime because of it. There is a dominoe effect to consider. So when people forgive the rich for all of the above and then praise them for paying a greater share of the FEDERAL income taxes, its like nails on a chalk board. If these filthy pigs want to be over-paid, then they should be over-taxed as well. Remember: They STILL own 1/2 of all United States wealth EVEN AFTER taxes, charity, and PR CRAP. A similar rule applies worldwide. There is nothing anyone can say to justify that. Anyway, there is usually a higher state and local burden on the middle class. They get little or nothing without a local tax increase. Otherwise, the red inks flows like a waterfall. Service cuts and lay-offs follow. Again, because of the OBSCENE distribution of bottom line wealth in this country. I can not accept any theory that our economy would suffer in any way with a more reasonable distribution of wealth. Afterall, it was more reasonable 30 years ago. Before Reaganomics came along. Before GREED became such an epidemic. Before we had an army of over-paid executives, celebrities, athletes, attorneys, investors, entrepreneurs, developers, and sold-out politicians to kiss their asses. As a nation, we were in much better shape. Lower crime rate, more widespread prosperity, stable job market, free and clear assets, lower deficit, ect. Bottom line: Top heavy economies always destabilize and eventually collapse. Middle heavy economies remain stable and propsperous indefinately. WITHOUT LOANS FROM CHINA.
