The Swamp

By Mike Dorning

HANOVER, N.H.--Barack Obama just took the stage for a morning get-out-the-vote rally at Dartmouth College's Alumni Gymnasium. And watching from the back of the gym, chewing gum and pacing back and forth with arms crossed, is Larry David, the cantankerous and curmudgeonly lead character from HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm."

David said he expected to be calling Obama supporters today to urge them to turn out to vote.

"Then they can hang up on me the way I hang up on them when they call me," David said.

He arrived in New Hampshire yesterday and spent the evening talking with students at Dartmouth on behalf of Obama, David said.

Uh oh, wait until Republicans read this. Everyone knows Republicans think Hollywood elites* should stay out of politics and keep their opinions to themselves!

*does not apply to Chuck Norris, Arnold Schwartzenegger, Fred Thompson, Ronald Reagan

I happen to think he's funny and more than a bit neurotic. I can appreciate that, along with his alter ego George Costanza, he's an acquired taste. The shortness of his fuse is legendary (he used to walk off stage when audiences didn't respond to his jokes), and it'll be interesting to see whether he harms or helps Obama in NH, which, let's face it, isn't widely known for its hipness.

I am thoroughly disgusted with the way the media has covered this campaign.

For one thing, you have made Obama a virtual saint. You have failed to explore the ties he has to anti-Semites like Louis Farrakhan, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, who have publicly distanced themselves from him, but privately pull his puppet strings. Those three are politically savvy enough to know when to keep their mouths shut.

More importantly than that, you have concentrated your focus on Obama and Hillary and treated John Edwards as if he and his campaign and followers don't exist.

John Edwards is the ONLY candidate with a message of change--to change the way Washington is run, without taking money from special interests groups and then serving the needs of those groups rather than the needs of the public.

I have been a live long Democrat, but if Obama is the nominee, I will either vote for McCain, whom I do not agree with on one issue but admire his integrity or whomever a third party candidate is.

While I'm sick of politics as usual, I'm more sick of the way the media is covering this election and annoiting a candiate without vetting.

Dear Lori:
John Edwards is the only candidate with a message of change without all the other baggage you describe??? Looks like you've been a victim of the media. Have you looked at Ron Paul?

To Larry who provided the very first comment:

Frankly, screw the Republicans. We are not Republicans, and only Republicans be Republican. We need to stop apologizing for who we are and what we stand for just because someone tells us we should do that.

To respond to Mr. Klingmans' coments; what makes Obama different is that he doesn't have his strings pulled by the so called black "leaders". In fact, here in Chicago, Obaman has often supported candidates on the local level who oppose the Jackson camp. As far as being anti-Semite, Farrakhan has made inflammatory remarks in the past, but in recent years has renounced those statements. Al & Jesse aren't antisemitic. Vote for whom you like, but please stop throwing Jesse & Al into every discussion.

I have a republican police officer friend of mine, who loves to rail on celebrities who voice their political views. Mainly Seam Penn! I'm endlessly amused at the idea that they should somehow become second class citizens.

Larry, the republicans want you to "Curb Your Enthusiasm."

Obama in 2008 and beyond!!!

Lori Klingman,
Are you an RNC plant who thinks Dems are so easily swayed by your irrational threats. Bye Bye.

Lori
You seemed to be scared of Obama rising to a star and to be the first candidate to bring change in this country. Stop dragging other characters into Obama candidacy such Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, which from my view you tend to bring the racism factor in!Look at his ideals and beyond what your eyes can see.

I am a Republican who loves Curb Your Enthusiasm. Larry David supporting Barack won't stop me from watching. It is the funniest show on the TV. I pretty much expect all of the major Hollywood players to be Democrat.

Paul, I am glad that you named the 4 actors that are conservative. Would you like me to start naming the THOUSANDS that are liberal??

Lastly, do any of you that support Barack have a clue why you support him? If so, please tell me because I haven't heard him say anything special about what he plans to do that the others on your side haven't already said. I would love to see him in a situation where he is actually challenged by the reporters interviewing him but he only goes on Obama friendly shows, which is pretty much any channel but Fox. I would like to see him answer some Chris Wallace questions on Fox but he will never be there because he may be exposed. Chris Wallace doesn't care who is in front of him, he asks EVERYONE tough questions.

I like how two of the three top Democratic candidates are scared of Fox News. How can we believe they can handle terrorists or difficult challenges if they can't even handle Fox news?

Barack would be the most tolerable for me out of the Democrats if I have to live with one of them. I sure hope it doesn't come to that though. Any of the remaining Republicans, besides Paul, would be much better than any of the Democrats.

Wake up America... Obama (as with most candidates on both sides) says little unless provided with a script. I am an Independent who has voted Rep, Dem and Lib at various times. Want to save our country from partisan politics and get us back to following the Constitution?? Vote for Ron Paul. Send a message of TRUE CHANGE.

Ms. Klingman, your comments regarding the black leaders being puppet masters of Obama were hilarious (and ridiculous). That's the first time i've ever heard Louis Farrakhan, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton referred to as "politically savvy enough to know when to keep their mouths shut". Aren't these people constantly criticized, and justifiably so, for making inappropiate comments and appearances any time they see an opportunity for self promotion? Really, that is what they are known for...so you're WAY off base here. As far as them pulling Obama's strings, why don't you prove it with evidence instead of making more baseless accusations?

Lori,

I agree - so far not one Democrat or front running Republican has peaked my interest. However, there is Ron Paul who I appeared on the Jay Leno show last night (after being snubbed by FOX at the NH debates last Saturday) who truly spoke from the heart. I have never been so inspired by a candidate as I was by Ron Paul. He is a statesman, not a politician as usual. His ideas while outside of the scope of those of his colleagues have all the qualities of a man who truly believes that our constitution was written to protect and serve all Americans, not just the elite. Check him out. While the media has ignored him, there is always hope that grassroots movements can pull it off and make him the Republican candidate for REAL CHANGE.

How will obama bring change, he is part of the good old boy network of illinois politicians. illinois leads the nation in former governors sent to prison. the currant governor is under federal investigation right now. obama is just another politician.

To first commenter Paul, you are right, a great deal of the public are tired of celebrities sticking their noses into national politics, especially since they barely possess any knowledge of the issues or have put any sweat equity into the process. With the exception of Chuck Norris, Fred Thompson, Arnold S., and Ronald Reagan put their reputations where their mouths were and ran for office; thus subjecting themselves to the voting public's ability to accept their opinions by electing them or by voting them down and rejecting their ideas. You can't say that about most celebrities who constantly subject us to their opinions without any forum for rebuttal or public rejection. I would have a lot more respect for Sean Penn, Susan Sarandon, and the other monologuers if they put their reputations and ideas up for a public vote. Until then, they have no right to cast their slanted, typically uninformed, views upon the people.

Vote for Ron Paul. Send a message of TRUE CHANGE.

Get over it. Ron Paul is going nowhere fast.

Two best TV shows ever;

The Sopranos
Seinfeld

and G. 'Can'tStandzya' was just about the funniest part, (because it was true.)

'Beatle' Bomb?
Would that make Pauly the Nowhere Man?

The only qualifications required for anyone to run for president are you must be a natural born citizen, 35 years of age and a resident of the U.S. for 14 years. This means most Americans are qualified to apply.

A female president is not the right formula for bridging the divide and repairing the damage with Muslims around the world.

Obama would have more of an impact in reducing hostilities targeting our nation.

Electing Obama would say a lot about our nation to the world when it comes to race.
