by John McCormick

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- On the night Sen. Barack Obama won the South Carolina primary, one of his two hometown newspapers has endorsed his presidential bid.

In its Sunday editions, the editorial page of the Chicago Tribune calls Obama the "Democrat best suited to lead this nation."

On the Republican side of the primary race, the newspaper endorsed Sen. John McCain of Arizona, saying the present dangerous world is a place he "unknowingly spent a military and political career preparing to confront."

The Obama editorial is linked here, while the one backing McCain is linked here.

I am deeply sadden by Caroline's endorsement of Senator Obama. I understand that she feels he is inspiring, but what we need now is more than just inspiration.

I have to wonder if Caroline would have endorsed Senator Obama, if Jackie Kennedy Onassis was still alive. Jackie was very fond of the Clinton's stating how Bill and his visions reminded her of her husband. Jackie was a friend to Hillary often sharing stories of raising children in such a public eye.

Upon her death, John F Kennedy,Jr. sent the Clinton's a hand written letter that said " I wanted you both to understand how much your burgeoning friendship with my mother meant to her. Since she left Washington I believe she resisted ever connecting with it emotionally-or the institutional demands of being a former First Lady. It had much to do with the memories stirred and her desires to resist being cast in a lifelong role that didn't quite fit. However, she seemed pro fondly happy and relived to allow herself to reconnect with it through you. It helped her in a profound way- whether it was discussing the perils of raising children in those circumstances or perhaps it was the many similarities between your presidency and my fathers".

It appears that the Clinton's not only inspired a nation, but also a former First Lady. Though I respect Caroline's decision to talk of Obama's inspiration and his great work in Chicago. It still does not take away from the facts, that his "resume" comes up short!!! Americans need more than inspiration after the Bush administration.

Americans need a proven leader who has traveled the "World" building relationships with foreign leaders. We need someone who has dedicated their entire adult life to helping the under privileged in our Country. Someone who has fought for civil, human and yes, woman's rights. Not only here in America but across the globe. We need a proven voice that can reach out across party lines. We need someone who is battle tested. We need change for our failing economy. We need universal heathcare. We need jobs. We need to focus on our energy crisis. We need "our" men and woman home. Americans need a leader. Americans need Hillary Clinton!

Though Obama is a beautifully spoken and inspiring gentleman. I am inspired by the years of hard work and dedication that Hillary brings to the table. Kitchen table at that! I am inspired by her ability to stand strong during the media's continuous bias. I am inspired by a woman who has been fighting for American since before I was born. I am inspired by her continued wiliness to make America better to help make Martin Luther King Jr. dreams a reality. The speeches she heard LIVE all those years ago when segregation was thought to be impossible there stood in Chicago a very young white girl, on a mission to learn and help. Hillary has dedicate her life to a cause so great it has empowered her during some of the toughest times. When most would have given in, she stands to fight for us again and again. That to me, is inspiration. Hillary Rodham Clinton is an inspiration to many Americans and Many Woman all over the WORLD!!!

Today I am endorsing Hillary Clinton. My voice is only one and I am not famous. I will not be on front pages of the dailies across the Country. I am not a Kennedy who swam along side of Chelsea, with her Mom and Bill and Hillary at Menemsha Harbor. I am not
"a perceptive friend and role model to Chelsea", as Caroline Kennedy was regarded.

I am an American endorsing the only other American running who is qualified to lead and passionate enough to never forget us.

I am an Inspired American from Kentucky and I am proud to endorse, support and volunteer for the 44th President of the United States, Hillary Rodham Clinton.

My name is Robin Davidson and I not only approve this message, but I wrote it.

Oh thank God, finally. SF, STL, and Sacramento papers just endorsed Obama too. Meanwhile, the NY Times pro-HRC op-ed, incredibly lukewarm and regretful, sounds like they are dragging themselves to the Clinton altar-of-sacrifice.

And today, a breath of fresh air, Caroline Kennedy in the NY Times, "A President like my father." Fantastic. Fan-tastic. Good things do happen!

Dear Friends at the Chicago Tribune:

I will happily add my own endorsement to yours.

I love Barack Obama and pray for his success everyday as we are headed for the most important presidential election in the 231-year history of this great country.

Senator Clinton’s husband, President Bill Clinton, often likes to assure people and the press, that, “The American people are pretty smart and they usually get it right when it comes to politics and elections.” I am strongly in support of Barack Obama, but I have to believe that the successes we are seeing with his popularity in the polls is due to President Clinton’s statement: The American people are in fact, getting it right. They actually want Barack Obama to lead this country as its 44th president.

Besides, if you just immerse yourself in the two best selling books that Obama wrote himself (i.e. no ghostwriter), you will not only understand how talented the man is and how he thinks, you may start to realize that he is definitely the most talented and best qualified candidate running, in either party. I spent Christmas of 2005 reading Dreams from My Father, and Christmas of 2006 reading the Audacity of Hope, so I know. Those books and Barack Obama's speeches helped clinch it for me. I want this great man to lead America from 2009 - 2016.

Every fiber of my being confirms that this country would be blessed to have Barack Obama elected as our
President in 2008. I can't ever remember an election year as exciting as this one. I hope we all live to see Barack Obama sworn in as President on January 20, 2009.

Why the lunatic McCain?

But then I recall when monkey-boy Bush first ran, the Tribune endorsed him.

Such wisdom.

Well thank you, Obamabot! I usually don't put much stock in endorsements, but yours carries alot of weight.

Oh, and as long as we're posting links, here's a refreshing piece by the Tribune's own John Kass.

Once again, pillow exposes his complete disconnect from reality.

Their corporate governance standards dictate they remain solidly republican. So if they are endorsing "to liberals" that means republicans are liberals too!

Also, as usual, pillow displays his complete lack of the grasp of English spelling. It's 'two' pillow. Are you too ashamed of your ignorance to go take some ESL classes? It might help you to understand what the candidates are saying to you. That way you wouldn't have to simply spew republitard talking points fresh off the RNC website.

With endorsements like this Hillery is starting to look better all the time. Except for the issue of Iraq exactly what is the difference between McCain and either of the Democrat contenders. Any Republican that could pull the lever for McCain really needs to consider switching party affiliation.

Very exciting! Hopefully, Obama can carry this momentum through to the democratic nomination and beyond.

You may call me names and write or say whatever you please about me. But at least I have the courage to use my own name and not hide behind some obscure, undefined letters that I am certain do not stand for "Michael Jordan."

By the way, when Barack Obama is elected president, something tells me you will not be happy until 2017 when you own favorite candidate is sworn in as the 45th president of the U.S. 2922 days... That's really a long time, isn't it?

You guys remind me of Moonies, or of the creepy Krishna cultists who used to hang around the airport. You have nothing to say other than your simple mantras, and you're surprised and disappointed when other people don't want to share your "joy".

As far as I can tell, Obama's legion of robots are unlike any other mainstream candidate's supporters -- it's as if they've had all vestiges of Humanity (like reason, free will) sucked out of them. There something frightening about that.

Figures that Paula would be the first to post on this. I think she is a closet Dem at heart.

I am sorry to see the the Trib back a candidate as well as all the other politicians, stars and Oprah. Seeing we have to abide by the electoral college, I think the candidates should be chosen by the delegates and then endorsements should be given. This is nothing other than swaying the votes to whom the news media and the people with money want. I think I'm staying home come November.

McCain's endorsement by the Chicago Tribune, Florida's governor, and Mel Martinez, all of whom are big supporters of amnesty, may be the kiss of death for his campaign. Since Tom Tancredo dropped out of the race, McCain has benefited from a total lack of coverage of his position on immigration. Now it may become an issue again, and he will be forced to defend the indefensible.

Sounds good to me.Let's get it on!!!!!!!

A bright young star running against an angry, tired old white man.

If we need McCain, why not let Boy Blunder stay for another term and finish us completely.

Hey guys,

I'm concerned that Barak is promoting the use of alcohol. Here's proof that he was a bartender:

Mr. "Amnesty" deserves nothing but a quick escort to the exit door of this Presidential race!

What pundits and editorial
writers seem to be ignoring
in this campaign is the
powerful economy Bill Clinton left us with. It
took a Democratic Congress
and President with enough courage to pass the deficit reduction bill in 1993. As I recall not one
Republican voted for it.
Where would we have been
on September 12, 2001 had
our economy not been so strong.Sure, we had a mild recession but the foundation had been laid
for continued prosperity.
We were able to absorb a
devastating punch, next time we may not be so lucky. There's nothing
wrong with voting in your
economic best interests.
As President Kennedy was
fond of saying, "Rising
tides lift all boats."
Our country needs a strength and conditioning
coach, and her name could very well be Hillary Clinton.

You keep forgetting that you elected a brain-dead moron not once but twice. Makes you wonder at the criteria of running for office. A pulse would do just fine, I think.

Look how the editorial board stated the war on terror issue. In the Obama endorsement they said: "By one measure, this endorsement is a paradox. We're urging votes for a candidate whose political views we often disagree with. But this is a more complicated contest, and a more complex candidate, than the norm. This nation's next president inherits a war -- against terrorists in Iraq and elsewhere -- that has found many ways to divide Americans. Capitol Hill is gridlocked and uncivil. Our discourse is hostage to blame."

In the McCain endorsement they said: "But there will be no going back. The planet's lone superpower won't again have the privilege of ignoring -- of appeasing with strong words but soft pursuit -- the sworn enemies of this nation and its friends." and "The world of 2008 is the dangerous world John McCain unknowingly spent a military and political career preparing to confront."

The editorial board has stated that terrorism is the key issue of our time - who is better to handle this issue? Between these two, its McCain in a slam dunk.

The editorial for Obama basically states that he can unify this country. Really, are his policies going to unify this country? You can't tell the difference between Obama's position on issue and the Socialist canidate running for president. Do you think he can rally a country around his stance on the isues?

http://www.votebrianmoore.com/issues.htm

I wish that people would keep in mind that though she is married to the man, Bill Clinton is not running for office. I am so hearing about how great his term in office is as an argument for voting for his wife. People need to stick to the candidates that are actually involved. I think it's pathetic that Hillary cannot handle a campaign without using her husband's name to win. First she takes office in New York not because she was one of the New York people but because it was the state she was most likely to get elected in, and now she has her husband fronting her campaign. Some feminist.

Why would the Tribune want to endorse someone who isn't proven like Obama?

I guess the same reason they endorsed Bush in 2004. All the voters in Illinois were in disbelief!

I am a white male and will vote for Barak OBAMA!!!!!

We need someone new in Washington!!!

Obama is the next JFK!!!

I haven't felt like this about a president since Kennedy.
