If you're a woman who wears a Muslim head covering or hijab, a lot of people might think you look pleasant enough but they wouldn't necessarily want you living in their neighborhood.
That's one conclusion to draw from research done by our friends at HCD Research Inc., using their MediaCurves technology.
They showed more than 600 people photos of the same woman, one in which her hair was uncovered, the second in which her head was covered with a hijab or Muslim head covering.
According to the HCD Research:
The study was conducted by HCD Research, using its mediacurves.com web site during January 2-3, to determine whether Americans possess different views of a woman based on whether or not she wears traditional Muslim headwear.
Participants were divided into two randomly assigned groups. Members of each group were asked to view one of two separate photos of an attractive young woman. Neither photo was identified in any way. Each sample was then asked identical questions about the woman, her age, perceived personality, activities, and how acceptable she might be as a neighbor.
One-third of participants indicated that they would rather have the woman with the traditional headwear live in another place, another city, and maybe out of the U.S, as opposed to living in their neighborhood. However, a clear majority of participants (89%) reported that the woman without the shawl would be welcome in their neighborhood.
It's ironic that as President Bush prepares to travel to the Middle East to talk to Israelis and Palestinians about living side by side in peace and security, so many Americans would say that they wouldn't want to live side by side with a woman in a hijab.
But it seemed like good news that nearly two-thirds of those polled said they wouldn't have a problem with a neighbor in a hijab, especially given all that's happened since 9/11.

Many people don't want to live around Muslims???
Wonder why that would be, seeing as how it was crazed Presbyterians who took down the World Trade Center on 9/11. And it was hooded white Catholics who detonated the bombs in London. And it was suit-wearing Episcopalians who blew up those trains in Madrid. And look how peacefully Israelis coexist with their Muslim neighbors....
The BAD news in the above article is that nearly 2/3 of Americans are so cowed by the PC police and PC prejudices that they're afraid to express common sense reservations about Muslims.

Ahh, nice to see Bruce be fully honest about the depth of his bigotry toward muslims.
He blames billions of Muslims for the actions of the few. But not Christians.
"And it was hooded white Catholics who detonated the bombs in London."
Ever hear of a little group called the IRA, chum? Should we all be afraid to live next door to Catholics because of many bombs they detonated in London over a period of decades?
Typical Republican. Completely motivated by ignorance, hate and fear.

In a related study, reporters at the DNC Swamp were shown photos of prospective neighbors. One set of DNC Swamp reporters were shown a photo of a person wearing a GOP button, the other the same photo but with the person sporting an Obama button.
The first group unanimously said they'd rather have the Republican live elsewhere, while the second group invited the Obama supporter over for dinner.

Tell us how you feel about people who listen to rap and hip hop Bruce?
Posted by: jethro | January 4, 2008 5:18 PM
Bruce,
First of all you are vile scum!
Second, there are literally billions, BILLIONS of muslims in the world who are peaceful and despise terrorists. The fact that you would reject an entire community based on the actions of a tiny sliver of this community shows that we can only conclude that you hate and fear everyone. After all, a majority of murderers and child rapists in American prisons are self described and devout Christians. Does that mean I should fear and hate Christians? NO, because I'm smart enough to know that the fact that those responsible for 9/11 and terrorism in the Middle East are Muslim is BECAUSE THEY LIVE OR CAME FROM THE MIDDLE EAST. The majority of the population is Muslim. Just like terrorist of the Irish Republican Army are IRISH CATHOLICS.

Good point, bruce. You forgot, however, the Muslim Jihadist, Timothy McVeigh. Question Bruce, do you hesitate to get in a cab with a driver that appears to be Muslim? If the answer is yes, it's a good thing you live in Chi-town, and not N.Y.
Posted by: dt | January 4, 2008 5:34 PM
Bruce is exactly right yet again. Remember that infamous Muslim Jeffrey Dahmer? How about John Wayne "Alla Hu Achba" Gacy? Or that crazed Islamofascist Tim McVeigh?
All evil in the world is Muslim. Only Christians and Joe Lieberman are blessed.
Posted by: a blinkin | January 4, 2008 5:42 PM
Yes, Bruce. Muslims are inherently dangerous. We'll ignore the fact that every religious group has had extremists, and most still do.
Posted by: Karl | January 4, 2008 5:44 PM
Bruce,
Or you are cowed by your own brand of PC, which is fear the Muslims. That's very PC in conservative Xtian circles, right?

What's news about this? Bruce is brutally honest and correct, in that seeing people dressed like Muslims emits a guarded reaction; sad, but true for most of us.
I do not have the same feeling towards ladies from India dressed in traditional sarongs, or Asians, or other "different" groups, but let's face it, they do not blow themselves up and kill innocent people.
This seems to be a rather ridiculous "study". What a waste of money.

Response:
And it was Muslims who dropped the bomb on Hiroshimo and Nagaski, and it was Muslims who dropped napalm on innocent Vietnamese civilians, and it was Muslims who massacred thousands in Bosnia. Let's not forget the "shock and awe" of Iraq. All together now, sing - Onward Christian soldiers marching off to war.
Brucie boy find a hole and bury yourself with all the other neocon hypocrites, but be sure that the ground is not radioactive from the smart bombs owned by your Judao/Christian brethren. Sing now - Oh Happy days, Oh happy Days, When Jesus washed, When Jesus washed my sins away.

Oh, come on, Bruce.
Christianity, Judaism, and Islam are all Abrahamic religions. They share much of the same scripture, and many of the same principles. Grossly oversimplified, the differences among them are:
Christians believe that Christ was the Messiah, and await His second coming;
Muslims say no, Christ was one of a series of prophets, of which Mohammed was the last and the greatest;
The Jews are still waiting.
Further, if someone were to appear on earth and gain a significant following as the Messiah, a fourth Abrahamic religion would start, drawing adherents from each of the other three; the people who didn't join the new religion would continue as before.
Of course, there are always people who will pervert the ideals of any religion to their own ends. Al Qaeda is an Islamic example. In Christianity, check out The Covenant, the Sword, and the Arm of the Lord, and the Order, among others. In Judaism, check out the assassin of Itzhak Rabin, who was a member of an extremist Jewish group.
It's not an expression of political correctness, but one of simple humanity, to recognize that people are, for the most part, just people, regardless of religion, and to try to get along with, and think well of, those who mean you and have done you no harm.

As one who has lived around large Muslim populations in Dearborn and Sterling Heights Mi. I can assure you that I would not like any Muslims living in my neighborhood. Bad news people. Middle east people of other religions seem to have an entirely different outlook on life and the USA.

The Long Good Friday:
Harold: For more than ten years there's been peace - everyone to his own patch. We've all had it sweet. I've done every single one of you favours in the past - I've put money in all your pockets. I've treated you well, even when you was out of order, right? Well now there's been an eruption. It's like f%#kin' Belfast on a bad night. One of my closest friends is lyin' out there in the freezer. And believe me, all of you, nobody goes home until I find out who done it, and why.
Bruce, I don't think he was referring to some "Islamo-fascist". Better that you not get in a cab with any of the "flocking poor", either.

Earth to Bruce;
It's 1944, see! The Germans are killing huge numbers of Jews, Brits, Americans, French, Russians, see! Yet the American people don't hate Lutherans, see! They can figure out that the radical Nazis aren't real Lutherans, see!

About a third of Americans believe 911 was an inside Job so it could have been crazed Presbyyterians. And hooded white Irish Catholics have been planting Bombs in the UK for a very long time. These bombs were paid for by White Catholics in America!
And White Catholics in Spain have been planting bombs there for a very long time.
So the bad news is America is the most Hypocritical racist country that the Earth has ever known.
It is a country built on the murder of red people and slavery of Black. It is a country the nuked the cities of Yellow people and is carry out genocide on two countries filled with brown people. And yet, they can still see the fault in everyone but themselves.
What did Jesus say about removing the log from your own eye before trying to remove a splinter from someone elses?

Thankfully, many people don't harbor the irrational fears that Bruce does. Yes, the 9/11 terrorists were Muslim, but should I fear living next to a Muslim for that reason?
Only if I wish to live in fear, and I do not.
In the area I was raised in, and to this very day, Muslims, Jews and Palestinian Christians live along side one another, quite peacefully. They collaborate on community projects and own shops that stand next to each other. Their children play together. They shop in many of the same stores. At the same time, each group remains true to their particular religion and/or culture, without fear that the other group is encroaching on beliefs or attributes that are uniquely theirs, nor are they afraid of their Muslim neighbors lobbing a bomb through their front window at any given moment.
All this cooperation, peace and calm between groups that, if conventional wisdom was indeed wise, would lead one to believe that they would be at each other's throats.
Well, they aren't.
I think it's not just a coincidence that they aren't fearful and manage to live together peacefully. One is unlikely without the other.

John, I agree with your posting, though I might point out that many Americans supported the IRA and considered them freedom fighters.
That's were the phrase 'one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter' came from.

Maybe if more women in America covered their heads and faces like Muslim women enjoy doing we wouldn't have all the problems we have, like women seducing young boys and forcing them to have sex and running away with them. These women today are completely out of control. Sitting in bars and getting guys drunk and then molesting them. We need more laws to keep them under control. You don't see Muslim women doing that stuff. They know their place and know how to behave. They don't have to be told anymore. Plus they know how to service their men and do nice things for them and keep them happy, because a happy man is able to do the things he needs to do. Maybe if more of our women went over there and took lessons they might be able to overcome some of the stuff they do like try to be smarter than a man. Just think how great this country would become.

Ah...Bruce and Jessica show off their religious moral high ground. That moral high ground gets harder and harder to navigate, doesn't it guys?
Is it any wonder people think the people who claim to be on that religious moral high ground believe them to be nothing but hypocritical? What would Jesus do? It doesn't really matter as long as you believe....huh Bruce and jessica?

This is why you don't want to live in a neighborhood with conservatives. If a Muslim family moves in, they'd all panic about the "terrorists" who moved in, dump their houses on the market & drive down home values. The rest of the normal people left in the neighborhood would be screwed financially.
Maybe I should move into the neighborhood where there is a big Catholic church across the street. They have these women called nuns dressed head-to-toe in black outfits making them look like penguins. Does that look normal to conservatives?

Well said. That is exactly what white conservatives did in the 50's and early 60's in Chicago during "white fight", when blacks started moving to the south and west sides.
They just fear anything that is different from their own narrow view of the world.
And Jessica, go find a lilly white community where racists like you can just live in peace. We don't want you here. But, then again, stay. I wouldn't want to drive you out just because of how you think. It's conservatives like you who do that.

Forget the headscarf. Before we decide if this woman would be welcome in America, we need answers to important questions, like, does she "believe" in evolution? Will she try to force her religion on me? And does she actually "believe" that God is real?

I always find it interesting that when the IRA comes up in the context of the current war on 'terror' the silence is always deafening.
The IRA could not have existed without the financial help from Americans. Collection plate money from American Catholic churches in the 70's and 80's allowed the purchase of Armorlite weapons, and hundreds of thousands of $$ ended up in the hands of Ka'daffy'. He was a big supplier of plastique and other exotic weaponry to the IRA.
Anyway, lot's of 'good Americans' must be breathing a sigh of relief that the new anti-terror laws in the US regarding even inadvertent contributions to terror organs isn't retroactive.
