The Swamp

by Frank James

You have to hand it to Ron Paul. Most presidential candidates who weren't running as white supremacists themselves would reflexively return a donation from a self-proclaimed racist so fast they would break speed records for financial transactions.

But as has been reported, Paul has decided to keep a $500 donation from Don Black of West Palm Beach who runs a website called Stormfront whose slogan is "White Pride World Wide."

As Paul's campaign explained, it plans to keep the money because that will reduce the cash Black has to spend on spreading his controversial ideology by $500.

And, according to the campaign, another good will occur. Paul will have $500 more with which to spread his libertarian message of freedom from big government, including his opposition to the Iraq War.

One freedom Paul has comes from the unlikelihood he'll receive his party's nomination. If he were a real threat to be the Republican nominee, he would've given back the money immediately since no top tier candidate would want to take a chance on losing the big prize because of the kind of controversy surrounding this kind of controversy.

But a lot of money is given to candidates by supporters with views out of the mainstream, views many other Americans would find objectionable. That's a given. The only difference is that Black doesn't hide his views.

Still, the unwritten rule in politics is that when you find yourself getting money from someone controversial because of what they do or say, someone with views repugnant to most Americans, you give their cash back like it's radioactive.

Paul's approach is certainly unorthodox, like so much about the man. That doesn't necessarily make it wrong. And because it's so different a way of handling such a situation, it presents an opportunity for a discussion about what's right and wrong in such situations. In short, it makes you think.

I applaud Paul for keeping the money. If he didn't he would be a hypocrite. He stands for freedom and rights. IF he gave the money back, he would be saying that Black doesn't have the right to express his opinnion. Keeping the money does not support Blacks opinions and as the lobbiest in Washington will tell you, Ron Paul cannot be bought like every other politician in the world. It is refreshing to see a politician who is not only steadfast adn consistent in his views, but not afraid of the media backlash and political correctness police for taking unpopular stands.

Paul calls it pandering when other "top-tier" candidates give back money to donors.

He says the worst thing about money being given to politicians is when special interests buy off politicians with the specific intent of screwing over the taxpayers- and we all know this happens much too frequently.

Lobbyists do not go to Paul because he can not be bought.

Let the MSM worry about 500 bucks while billions are stolen or wasted on federal programs in New Orleans and Iraq.

Great work free press.

say what you want about the man, he's got guts and a thought process that I like.

I find it very funny that you mention he recieved money from this guy.. what about the 150,000 other donors... who views represent there own type of freedom. They give in the name of freedom.. freedom of thought, expression whatever it may be .. you cant tell a person how to use there freedome once it is given to them. All Paul can do is express that he doesnt tolerate it. How could he screen all 150,000 donors?..

What Paul does, however, is set a precedent. If he returned the money, oppo research would continue to comb his records for *anything* -- not just "this guy is a racist" but "this guy hangs around with rapists" until finally "this guy knows Kevin Bacon." And every donation he returned would be a brand new story. Refusing to return it makes this the big story, then the next one a smaller story, until finally people are going "Meh, he's not going to return it, why the hell are you continuing to report it?"

What about "Gay Pride" parades, Black Avocate Sites, etc.

White pride whoever he is, has the right to believe however he chooses. He just can't impose his beliefs on me. It is my choice if I read his site or not.

I think Ron Paul is correct on this one. Like you said, his race is unconventional.

What is proves beyond everything else is that Ron Paul isn't hypocritical. We all know darned well that all other campaigns want every single penny that comes their way. They only feign "shock" and "outrage" because they think it's the politically correct thing to do.

Ron Paul is sincere, open and honest. You can't say that about the other candidates.

Perhaps the "unwritten law" of hypocricy is now being rewritten. It's about time.

I agree -- it is very unorthodox; but not necessarily wrong. Congressman Paul stated he will take the money and use it for his cause. It is true that every American has the right to choose how they live their life. It seems Paul is looking in the face of others and saying; why should I give anything back. Just because he endorses me, does not mean I endorse him. I give Paul kudos for taking a stand -- which he does quite often in the face of adversity.

There is no reason that candidates should return money just beacuse it came from a politically unpopular source. As Ron Paul pointed out, the real scandle is all the candidates keeping bundled money from special interests that goes to buy favortism from them. That is where the media's focus should be; on the Hillary's, Rudy's, etc, that have sold America out to the tune of millions.

The people for whom this is a controversy just don't understand libertarians.

To a libertarian, a man's moral standing is utterly and absolutely his own. Nothing he has not freely chosen makes up part of his moral being in any way.

To Paul, since he came by the money honestly - by forthrightly stating his platform and asking for donations - the money can't possibly be "tainted". Mr. Black can't soil or sully Mr. Paul or his campaign by contributing to it, because Mr. Black is completely irrelevant and can never be relevant.

Asking a libertarian to send back a donation like this is like asking a libertarian for slavery reparations. They consider even the request to be a deadly moral insult.

That's why Paul seems to be so pissy about this issue, when he otherwise has been quite mild during the campaign in the face of provocation. [Unlike his more belligerent supporters.] Paul's been happy to stand there and be booed at debates and laughed at by the other candidates and insulted and marginalized by the media and none of it has fazed him. But asking about this donation is the one thing that has pissed him off - because it pushes a libertarian hot button.

It does make you think doesn't it?
Give the money back so this fellow can use it to spread his message of intolerance or use the money to spread the message of freedom.
Mmmmm, What to do? What to do?

The problem with a message like "freedom is the answer, what is the question" is that people from accross the spectrum can put their viewpoints into your message. Thats why the Paul crowd is diverse, and also why it is so strong. A Ron Paul rally is the only place you will ever see skinheads and black people, old and young, republicans and democrats, all gathering around the same message. I saw it myself in Philly on veterans day. Such a diverse crowd, and there were no hostilities and no fights or problems. That message is "let me live my life as I want". I am an avid supporter, and I am not an extremist or a racist. I just want to live my life and let others do the same.

A $500 donation from some moron with a website isn't nearly as bad as the millions that the major candidates take from war-profiteers and lobbyists. Who is worse? Some guy who thinks white people are a superior race or people who advocate going all over the world and bombing countries for no reason???

Of course Ron Paul is correct. While we are talking about donations, what about all the millions of special interest money that gets funneled into ALL the other candidates. Are they going to give that money back? What about those who have criminal records, are they due a refund also? This was a Fox smear that has backfired in spectacular fashion.

After thinking about it, I conclude the following:

1. With over 120,000 individual donors and counting, it would be sheer folly to even attempt to monitor every donor's personal beliefs.

2. A donation, especially a small one like the one under consideration here, which freely is given without any stated request for a return favor, should be accepted at face value, i.e. as given in good faith for Dr. paul to do with as he pleases.

3. By giving in to the strident demands of his enemies for a return of this donation, Dr. Paul would give effective control over his policy regarding all donations to those enemies.

For these reasons, Dr. Paul refusal is entirely correct and also amazingly consistent with his well established policy as a congressman of never pandering to lobbyists or other special interest groups.

"Dr. No" indeed.

Imagine the outcry if Obama didn't return a donation from a group which promotes radical Islamic positions. The Republicans would literally be screaming for blood.

Paul should donate the money to the United Negro College Fund.

Two things:

1. If Paul were leading the race, he still wouldnt give the money back. Know why? Because he has his own set of principles which he sticks to which is why is garners a following.

2. You should watch the interview with Cavuto yesterday in which Paul comments on the fact that here we are talking about one wacko who donated to Paul when we should be talking about the HUGE number of coroporate lobbyists STEALING OUR COUNTRY

Good article though. Refreshing.

Mike Gravel commented in the debates to follow the money. Meaning the money that is being contributed to all politicians. I think you will find that ALL of the other candidates have kept "donations" from some questionable "persons", "corporations". At a minimum Ron Paul is not hidding the fact. He has also made it clear that the libertarian/constitution platform is the agenda. Yes, even Nazi's have political views which I do not agree with but none the less are their right to express. There is more at stake than a Nazi contributing to Ron Paul's campaign. We are fast becoming a fascist state. All of us will be slaves to the state if that occurs. Does that make me a communist for having left views (complete opposite to the nazi), donating to, and voting for Ron Paul. I think not. The only thing that Ron Paul is guilty of is awakening the soul of America, crosses all party lines and ideologies. For this election this liberal democrat is all in for Ron Paul.

He was right not to send him $500. I'm pretty sure the money for that donation was already spent and if Dr. Paul used my recent donation to pay someone from Stormfront I'd be pretty upset.

I think he response to the situation reflects on him so well, he is an upright, principled man, with integrity. He takes this money, says he rather use it for good than in the hands of views he does not support and saying it strong as he has enhances his appeal.

Other candidates with fleeting integrity, and questionable character, return money as to no bring attention to motives and character in the actual candidate. Ron Paul is the only one that can say, Thank you for your donation without looking like a creep.

Something is brewing in American Politics, we actually have a choice that isn't the best of two evil's.

We have a REAL choice for a leader who says what he means, and means what he says.

So desperate for money, they'll take money from a white supremacist at the expense of a lot of bad press.

So much for integrity.

Paul will probably be the nominee. He's only conservative running.

Ron Paul knows how to prevent hacks from damaging his campaign. If Don Black did it to discredit Ron Paul and he thought he was going to recieve a refund once he alerted the media about it. He was wrong. And for anyone else who tries to do that just remember that your money will be lost.

Paul is a top-tier candidate, and he would never ever give it back --because he has principles, something pseudo-journalists like yourself know little about.

Most polititions do not have a reputation of doing what they say, no matter who gives them money. Ron Paul has earned a reputation of doing what he says he will. As such it doesn't matter who donates money, they cannot expect to get any gain from that latter.

If you think that Paul, even as a top-tier candidate, would pander to politics and give the money back, then you don't understand the principled stands of the man. That's why I, and so many hundreds of thousands of others, perhaps millions, plan to vote for him.

well-said article. Those who returned donations due to controversial views of donors are just cowardly running, they don't have the logic and good will as Dr. Paul has to keep them. Way to go Dr. Paul!

Can we categorize sin? Don't we have adulterers running for president? You guys are scraping the bottom of the barrel but, I guess I'd be naive to think that you would be above this. By the way, I'm a middle aged Hispanic female and I'm not offended by the latest "controversy" about Ron. Gulliani,Romney Hilary and Obama are what offend me.

I;m finally glad to see one of these articles recognize the fact that Paul's keeping of the money does not imply agreement with the ideas. Though most articles give this lip service in the one or two sentences, they bury it in the middle or end of the article. Regarding the issue itself. This information was made public by the Lone Star Times back in October and was addressed within a week or so of that paper contacting the campaign. Per what the spokesman for Paul's campaign said at that time, they didn't even really know who Mr. Black was until it was brought to their attention, but even if he is who the paper says, its not the campaigns fault he's throwing his money away at a candidate who does not endorse his views. This more or less laid the issue to rest until now. Though your article is not the first, it leads one to wonder why this story is suddenly "new and controversial" when it was laid to rest in October/November.

that's the thing about paul. He's NOT going to bend just b/c the establishment tells him to. He has principles. He believes that all people are free to make their own choices, even ones he disagrees with. Giving back the money would be a waste of time and send the wrong message. Paul is not about to start being the thought police, and he's right. THe money IS in a much better place. Thanks for the article :-)

Bravo on an excellent article. AP was in the basement, with a headline that had four words, Dr. Paul's good name and "white supremacist."

I hope that you, like the good Doctor, are making people think.

Google Ron Paul.

You can add this to my last comment.Just a little food for thought.

Blitzkrieg-our modern day word for this term is Shock and Awe".

Gestapo/SS-our modern day word for this is "Department of Homeland Security".

At least Ron Paul or this Nazi that donated to RP's campaign are not hidding their true colors.

Liberal Democrat here voting for Ron Paul.

Ron Paul just raised more money in one day than any candidate ever and this is what you choose to write about?

Well go ahead. We've done our research. We know Ron Paul is not a racist.

Your ability to control and sway voters is slipping away right before your eyes. You are becoming irrelevent. We no longer believe you when you say that he doesn't have a chance of winning. I've seen people campaign for him in the frigid cold and you better believe they will show up to vote.

I think the response of other candidates is more telling. It tells you that when they receive money, it is to get something in return and they do not want to be accused of giving to bad people. With Ron Paul, the only thing you get in return is freedom. And everyone deserves freedom, even Racists.

What about the money received by the other candidates? Hillary gets more money from the military industry than any other. Or what about all the other special interests buying politicians and policy? That is the true evil in this country. Ron Paul does not take money from any one or any group trying to buy influence. That is why he is loved by his supporters. You missed the point completely.

Another mainstream-media slam on Ron Paul. It is just this sort of slanted, negative editorialized reporting that has helped make Ron Paul so popular. His views reflect more closely than any other candidate those of the Founding Fathers. Should we now repudiate Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson, also?

Dr Paul nailed this one out of the park. FOX tried their best to try to put him in a position that would make other candidates feel uncomfortable for themselves if they were put in this position. Any other candidate would have tried to act just/honest/righteous when all this is absolutely unnecessary. But as always, Dr Paul's logic made my day.

The logic 'why return his $500 back when he can do more evil with that money when I can do some good with it' -- priceless!

Moreover, this follows his philosophy -- stop governing; give people the freedom to do what they want to, with their money!

The current government had disillusioned me; I am becoming a bigger fan of this man by the minute!

OH MY GOD!!!! The man received 6 Million dollars from 57000+ people and he didn't check the background of each one of them!!! HE SHOULD BE HORSE WHIPPED!!!

How many racists subscribe to your paper? Have you checked? How do you live with yourselves?

A vote for Ron Paul is a vote for the constitution. If the constitution is worth voting for then you can join the media and their nazi like blackout of the revolution.

It is very important to understand the subtle insinuations of articles such as this. In commentary after commentary, Ron Paul is referred to as fringe, out of the mainstream, crazy, unorthodox, or not playing by the rules. It is a sad commentary when being honest, principled, and non-pandering is "unorthodox".

Who cares about one guy who gives $500? I think Americans are more interested in where the Clintons get their donations from?

Paul would keep the money even if he was leading in the polls. This is not a controversy so I don't know why you are calling it that. I'm glad Paul is keeping the money.

"In short it makes you think"

Thank you Frank.

Some people actually "get it".

I've always thought it wierd for candidates to return money (unless it was illegally obtained) to contributers. If someone of objectionable status wants to contribute...fine. It's not like Ron Paul is saying anything racist in the campaign. If some white supremicist thinks RP is a racist, he's wrong. Keep the money and promote the Constitution.

ron paul is not a racist so whats the big deal, dude just lost $500. the racist does not get ron pauls message

Ron Paul has publically stated the he doesn't not want money from these groups of people. If this man wants to give money to Ron Paul, who cares! This is America you can do whatever you want with your money. Why don't you go find some real news.

WOW I wake up this morning and 10,000 "Ron Paul is a racist articles"

Hmmm, wonder why he didn't receive as much attention for setting the one day money raising all time world record.

Your bias along with 90% of the mainstreams bias against Dr. Paul is really becoming quite transparent even to skeptical folk like myself.

Keep it up though, I guess what I mean to say is since everyone has ruled Dr. Paul out of the primaries there really wont be a need to show up and vote for the other guys, since they have already won right?.

Bottom line Paul is taking this country back whether you like it or not, and he’s got allot of disenfranchised Americans ready to take action to help him do so. So keep writing your hit pieces designed to cast doubt and discredit his good name. You and the rest of the biased one sided mainstream media are only sealing your fate by making it easier and easier for us to see right through your lies and manipulation tactics.

To quote a fantastic new song by a band "spoon"

"you have no fear of the underdog, thats why you will not survive"

and before swat show up at my door, I mean that in the theoretical sense where as surviving means to continue to have a thriving media outlet. or to put it more simply

YOU WILL BE OUT OF A JOB!

Dear Article Reader,

Please investigate further the report of Mr. Paul's acceptance of the $500 as Mr. Black himself admits that Ron Paul is not a white supremist, but Mr. Black supports Ron Paul's views on the Iraq war and border patrol.

Any other candidate accepts this check and I'm thinking no commentary is written. Please allow the voter to make up his/her own mind and not be forced the usual drudgery of candidates that continue to pursue their own political agenda without the country's good at heart.

Thank you.

Ron Paul is THE front-runner and he's still not giving it back. Traditional phone polls are inaccurate when it comes to his support so you have to dig deeper when trying to figure out if he "has a chance at his party's nomination." Ron Paul's integrity and these little things that keep getting his name out there do so in a way that almost force a reader to see the headline and read the article instead of just reading a headline and moving on. It's a brilliant campaign tactic because then we read why he's not giving it back and it makes perfect sense.

That's the beauty of it....it is not politics as usual - it's Paulitics.

See, there's no Big Prize in this movement - the good Dr. doesn't want to be president to tell you what to do - he wants to be president to free you from intrusive government.

Would it make sense for this freedom loving r3VOLution to 'donate' back $500 to a racist website? Of course not. If you seriously analyze the good Dr's stance and actions on other issues, you will find that they also make sense....There's no turning back the tide.

That's what we like about Ron Paul. He displays common sense, a willingness to use it and the honesty to admit it.

your article is the provoking matter on this subject not ron pauls wise decision to spend $500 for freedom fight, what about hillary and the rest of corrupts using special intrest money to continue the war till 2013 watch the interview ron paul on cavuto than you will get the real picture dont try to stir the shit we are not stupid falling in your kids game provoking aricle,,,,,,

Frank,

I think it is unfair that you say that Ron is unlikely to win the Republican nomination. Do you realize that people create as they speak? By saying that someone has no chance, you are being negative to a great extent. If the media in the major newspapers like the Sun and others would be positive and refrain from saying that certain candidates have "no chance", then maybe people could get an unbiased view of that candidate and make the choice for themselves. But folks in the media like you seem to put a sway on the political news, giving an edge to one candidate over another by reporting more positive about one candidate while portraying another as a "longshot". In doing this, you set up the numbers in the polling as well, because people who have little time to research the candidates in depth will listen to your opinions and pick the candidate that you most mention in your articles as having the "best chance". You need to give all candidates the same amount of time and the same amount of positive commentary. Only then will this be a "fair" election.

I do not see what s the big deal about the 500 buks
he is only one out of 100000s
+ Eventhough he has twisted views , he is american after all and he has the right to vote and support any condidate .
Why go after the condidate !! if you are not happy with the white suprimacist guy , go after him not after someone that is loved by millions of people !!

+ if that stupid white supremacist guy really supports Ron Paul , he would simply stop donating or ask his friends to donate on his behalf in stead

I wonder if he really supports Ron Paul or was Paid by the neo-cons to give them an opportunity to attack Ron Paul !!
because apart from this white supremacy crap . They wont find much to base their attack ON !!

cheers

Thanks for noticing what a brilliant mind Dr. Paul has. And like he has pointed out, he had 58,000 donors in the most recent collection; is he supposed to research the ideology of each of those 58,000? Is that what other candidates do? Impossible. $500 less for a racist, $500 for freedom and justice. Thanks.

Thank you for your reasonable article. Ron Paul has also said that he probably SPENT the $500 from Black already, before he knew where it came from. He pointed out that it would be wrong of him to take someone ELSE'S donation to him and use it to "donate" to a white supremicist group. That money is safer in Paul's hands, furthering his peaceful agenda, than in the hands of dangerous, wacko liars like Stormfront.

Yes, he certainly is thought-provoking!

Wow, are you a journalist or just some literary moron? Let us assume you are capable of free thoughts for one moment. If I own a newspaper should it be my responsibility to give money back to criminals who used stolen cash to buy my paper? Do yoyu really think that is a reflection of Mr. Paul or is it an attempt to spin spin spin? Here is my abc's lesson for you... ABCDEFU

Obvious Paul is a threat to whomever Frank James wants elected.

Its not a thought provoking nor educational article, just another trash article.

Ok, Frank James, who are you supporting, let us do some research on there money..

its funny people want to concentrate on this when gulianni is back by special interest. and its not for your average workin american. all the candidates with major budgets are not about makin the country free.

Ron Paul is a nutcase. He believes in the US Government 9/11 and Pearl Harbor conspiricies. He is about as far right as the come on many issues. How he raises millions of dollars from his followers is scary. Lots of crazy people in this country. I am a Republican and proud of it. Ron Paul is a disgrace to his party.

Ron Paul shouldn't have to give the money back. He is running for The President of the United States - the president of ALL people, not just ones that you or I might agree with morally.

Ron Paul's message is one of freedom, and everyone is entitled to that personal freedom, even though someone's morality may be repugnant to others. That's the whole idea of freedom - you don't want anyone telling you how to live your life, so you shouldn't do the same to others.

By accepting this money - does anyone really think that it means Ron Paul is a white supremacist?? If you know anything about the man and his character you know that is the furthest from the truth.

Dr Paul was right in an interview yesterday when he said that politicians that give money back like that are just pandering, just playing the political game.

And as he also pointed out, why bring up one individual donor, who Paul has nothing to do with, when the real evil in politics is all the money funneling into the other candidates through big corporate money to persuade their political views. No one says anything about that, and that is what truly leads to corruption in politics.

First of all, I would bet every last cent I own that this racist guy gave money to Ron Paul as a way to increase publicity due to the controversy, rather than any real idiological affinity.

(I would bet that "StormFront" website hits have gone from 3 or 4 daily to hundreds since the now-infamous donation.)

Second, there are undoubtedly MANY donations coming in to ANY of the other Republican candidates from people who wax quite literally orgasmic at the thought that "their guy" might nuke Muslem holy sites as a punishment for 9-11, and a warning "not to do it again." And the scary thing is, any of the other GOP contenders might actually do it.

No thanks! I'll take Ron Paul.

Frank James, you should learn a little more about Ron Paul and is intentions before writing an article with such ignorant viewpoints. Please watch this video of Ron Paul giving justification for accepting the $500 donation. Give it a thought. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrRtZaG63o8

Why return the $500 to the white supremacist and assist him in his wrong causes?

The real weapon Ron Paul has is is honesty and integrity. Sadly, there are not many people who realise and appreciate these qualities in him.

So what if Ron Paul recieved $5oo dollars from this guy who cares..At least he is the best choice for our country!!!

This is the second story that I have seen in as many days on this topic. First, this is old news. Second, Ron Paul doesn't have to agree with everything his supporters believe in. His supporters just need to believe in the message. Third, what I find most appauling, is the fact that you advertise Don Black's website. What is the purpose? You couln't have left that out?

PS. If thats the best dirt you can come up with Frank James, your choice for candidate is screwed...

By the way, who is your choice? afraid to say?

Thought so...

Really people... This is old news, and was not really news when it was new. Ron Paul's record clearly shows he is NOT a racist, and while your spineless article alludes to it, never really says so.
This is what is known as a non-story. If this is the best you have to attack Ron Paul, you are clearly scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Does he support the 2nd amendment?

Ron Paul is a free man because he refuses to kiss the feet of the bullies who demand that behavior. He's the only candidate who does refuse. That's why he's the only candidate worth electing to the presidency.

The last 3.5 min of this fox news video is specifically about this subject

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrRtZaG63o8

another interesting point is that this guys affiliation, etc was found out much after he had given the donation and the money had been spent. So Ron Paul's other point is why should I take a good person's money whos donated to the campaign and give it to a white supremacist because I've already spent his donation?

It's not about a right or wrong way to handle the situation. It's about being principled. He's the most honest man running, plain and simple.

As with so many things in the Paul campaign, this really is breaking the rules of presidential politics. As you point out, he really does make a rather valid point. Although he make look better in the long run if he were to give it to the ADL or something, that would go against his principles. Thank goodness for Fred and Ron, without them the rest of the Republicans look like spineless panderers.

Ron Paul is Right on this one.. 500.00 for good.. and it keeps Black from spending it on some other thing.. I hope he sends more.. heck so much that he cannot pay his electric bill..

Yes, Black's beliefs are repugnant! His reasons for donating to Paul were not. I've read it was Paul's foreign and domestic policy that attracted Black to his campaign, not Paul's racial morality. So what is wrong with his money? I am a California state National and have a low regard for federal (U.S.) citizenship. Most would not agree with my choices, is my money no good either? I'm a firm believer in restoring power to the states. Should Paul return my gifts to his campaign?
I don't like racist, they are small minded children that blame other people for all their problems but you should resist the idea of completely isolating them, it will only drive them further in their repugnant beliefs.

It is so great to have a candidate like Dr.Ron Paul, one who has such a strong character and courage of conviction. A most definite segway from the belt-way politicians we have today.

I have followed Ron Paul
20 years and I was just elated when I found out he was going to be a candidate
again.
America must have more leaders like Ron Paul with
courage who seek to direct our country back to the Constitution,we have drifted far off coarse.

We must end government from the top down and bring back
a government of Freedom and
Liberty. The mindless babble daily about the poles and ratings that is spoon fed to the public about the candidates is
tiring to us who well lubricated brains. We must pay no attention to polls, all they are designed to do is lead one in the wrong direction to the candidate of the establishments choice.I rest my case, lets elect Ron Paul for our President. EMC

Ron Paul is absolutely correct. There is no way to screen donations and one stupid racist isnt nearly as evil as the corrupt lobbies who ply their trade 24/7 in the halls of congress! The special interest groups who buy candidates are a well known fact. You are a hypocrite if you arent equally repelled by all the other candidates and their many thousands of
biased , racist, ethno centric supporters who donate money. The truth is sometimes hard to swallow for you lefties and neocons alike, so you'd rather continue to pretend that what you consider "politically correct" is actually a moral stand when it actually is just dishonest.

I agree with Dr. Paul keeping the money, for exactly the reason he kept it. Since Don Black is the idiot that he is then he deserves to be out the money and the rest of us are that much better off with Dr. Paul as president.

It does make you think indeed. It makes you think why does a $500 donation make news wires and get picked up by every news outlet but $6,000,000 in donations gets put on the back burner for a day so McCain's endorsements get coverage. It makes you wonder why people think a $500 donation could possibly influence someone like Paul but millions in special interest money won't influence Romney who is so hungry for power he's already personally invested 18,000,000 of his own money. Romney is a smart man and I'm sure he expects a return on his investment. It is time for America to take a good hard look in the mirror and decide what kind of country we want to be, because this is the year we can make a REAL change.

Ron Paul rEVOLution

Just because you take someone's money doesn't mean you agree with their position. Paul is right to keep the money because he will use it to spread his message of freedom and liberty. If this racist endorses Paul by giving $500, so be it. But by keeping the money, Paul is not endorsing the racist. My gut feeling is that this guy was hired by the NeoCons to give this money. What better way for them to attempt to smear Ron Paul. Thousands of people gave to his campaign, and I find it interesting that of those thousands of doners, this one made it to the press. The timing is just a little to perfect. Its the same thing as that prostitute stuff in Nevada - and it didn't work. Ron Paul in 2008!!

Is "white pride" per se a bad thing? If so, why?

You guys in the media have done more to assist this racist Don Black character than Ron Paul ever did. You should collectively be ashamed of yourself.

Hmmm, well then why doesn't the media print articles like this on all Candidates??? Hillary took thousands from the communist party
Most Americans are completely unaware of the support that Mrs. Clinton and her husband gave to the World Federalist Association (WFA), a controversial organization which openly advocates world government. The WFA states that by adding more power, authority and functions to the United Nations, "national sovereignty would be gradually eroded until it is no longer an issue." The Clinton Administration also signed a U.N. treaty which created an International Criminal Court (an idea originally proposed by Hillary), which could prosecute and imprison Americans for alleged war crimes. Also, at the pinnacle of the "cold war" between the U.S. and Communist Russia, the WFA collaborated with the Soviet Peace Committee, an instrument of the Soviet Communist regime
Not only did she reap money from these connections she is actively involved. Yes please report on the other Candidates, because you will find many not only took the money they are involved!

Making one think is the hallmark of a statesman.

With $16 million donated by more than 50,000 supporters, Ron Paul is not soliciting donations from any white supremacist. He just does not want to be caught up in the game of micro analyzing the ideologies of every one of his supporters. Ron Paul can not be bought, for $500 or $5 million. Anyone who has spent even a few minutes looking into his background would recognize that fact. The voters should be far more concerned about the influences of big corporations and special interests on the campaigns of his competitors. They SHOULD be worried about John McCain's ties to the industrial-military complex, or Mike Huckabee's pandering to illegal aliens. But as long as mainstream media reporters want to focus on emotionally charged but ultimately meaningless issues such as whether to keep a $500 donation, the REAL news will be lost in the fog.

I applaud Ron Paul's actions and will 'waste' my vote on him in the primary - Were we all to 'waste' our vote on RP, and not just vote for who we think has a shot at winning (like fair-weather fans) perhaps liberty could survive.
If we as Americans believe in freedom and liberty, then we must accept that some people will continue to hold disgusting and bigoted idealogies. Ron Paul strives to give freedom to us all, even those we don't agree with. It's called tolerance and the meaning of that word certainly is tested with the likes of white supremacists and similar ilk.

I don't understand what's the big deal about all of this? Here the guy that actually would defend the Constitution is accused of racism/supporting white supremacist. Paul is far, far away from white supremacy. He is a man of dignity who has stayed intellectually consistent throughout his career and has a clean record, that speaks for itself.

The MSM has created a monster in Ron Paul. With all their antics of ignoring him, laughing at him at debates, trying to make him look bad or like his is nuts, they have created a very hardened, witty, and smart man when it comes to MSM smearing. He is right when he says that giving back money because of the MSM attempt to create political correctness in this country is petty. From here on out, they are going to have a really hard time smearing him and when he is given the chance to speak on the issue (or stupid issues like this) his explanation on why he kept money, why he voted the way he did is all legitimate which his explanations are a lot better sounding than that of other candidates who flip flopped and voted for a war and are now against a war.

The man unlike any of his rivals, has a backbone and has intregrity. Most politicians have to look in a dictionary to understand the definition of that word.

What's worse, accepting $500 from a raciest idiot, or accepting donations from some guy that expects something for his money in return (as in bribe, at the expense of taxpayers). Examples, Daley, Blago, Obama, Clintons, Bushs.

Do you think Ron Paul is going to take away any rights of minorities after his election and give white people advantages over anyone else? I think not.

I say good job to Ron Paul. Accepting this man's money is good business and that is what politics is. I agree with him to keep the money if it supports Ron's cause. I do not see why this is an issue. Considering the way money is uselessly spent on dollar store junk, foreclosing houses, bad loans, supporting Wal-Mart and it's sweatshops. There is no controversy here I think for Ron Paul.

Here comes the smear campaign!

Why don't you post a story about all the candidates who grovel at the feet of the racist Hispanic organization "La Raza" (The Race). Imagine a white organization called the "The Race".

Oh, sorry, that wouldn't be politically correct. Sack up Frank, this story is weak.

There is nothing thought-provoking about his actions. He makes it clear what his policies are, and any person is free to support his campaign. No supporter expects anything in return for the money other than its use to get his policies of constitutionalism elected.

The thought-provoking question should be how is Dr. Paul in a position where he'll be the leading fundraiser, in either party, without the use of special interest money? For the average voter, it means that every other candidate besides Congressman Paul comes with strings attached.

I'm sure there hasn't been a single racist of any stripe donate to the other candidates' campaigns. If the donor in question is a racist...then he is wrong. Even so, he is free to be wrong because this is America and we have an amazing document called the Constitution. If you think Ron Paul is a racist simply because this guy donated money to his campaign...you're wrong. Dr. Ron Paul has more character and honor in his little toe than all the rest in DC combined. The BS needs to find some real news to write about.

That's just another reason why I like Ron Paul. He acts of principle, not on political expediency. How refreshing it would be if all the candidates would act according to the way they really feel and not according to what they think is politically correct. Ron Paul's record shows that he is anything but a racist. In fact, he stands far above all the other candidates in being a champion for liberty and freedom for every individual. He did right in keeping the money, and in the process he wins even more of my respect.

I think Paul did the right thing. He has always voted on a constitutional platform. If he had given the money back, he likely would have been called a hypocrite for not supporting every persons right to freedom of speech and association. You don't have to agree with everyone. I certainly don't agree with stormfront. But they have as much a right to exist as does the black panther movement. The constitution provides protection for all groups.

Also is it really any big deal that it was a $500 contribution from a single individual? I mean there have got to be worse fundraising schemes than this in other campaings.

Ever hear of someone named Norman Hsu?

Like you people can talk? Pot calling the kettle black?

Some reporter - the Country is falling apart and desperately needs Ron Paul to help get it back on the tracks and you worry about where a $500 donation came from. Better go back to covering Brittney Spears. The press is missing the biggest political story ever by ignoring Ron Paul. "None are so blind as those who will not see".

I am so proud of Ron Paul's principaled stance. Can you imagine how disruptive it would be if every time somebody wanted to smear someone they would comb the donation list and spray the candidate's name over the news for every questionable donee who ever had a radical position or committed a crime, as if the candidate somehow endorsed the donee's behavior? There would be no time to discuss the issues, we'd be too busy clucking over trying to get the candidate to jump through the hoops we've set up. Bravo bravissimo, GO RON PAUL.

Dr. Paul is smart and he made the right choice. Libertarian philosophy is, by definition, anti-racist as libertarianism is individualist and as Dr. Paul says, "The collectivist mindset is at the heart of racism."

The white supremacist made a mistake giving money, but it will be put to good use.

Dr. Paul is the only candidate, Republican or Democrat, who has long opposed the racist disparate sentencing for (primarily black) crack users and (primarily white) powdered cocaine users.

Once again we are reminded that it is in our best interests to act in the name of "perception" rather than to act on principle. Thanks for pointing out the fact that we Americans have eliminated our ability to make judgements based upon rational, well thought out positions.
Dr Paul does this with regularity. The rest of us cant be bothered. Just like we cant be bothered with the fact that Romneys father is buying one of the largest media empires and finances his own campaign and interests, that Hillary Clinton takes as much money from the Military Industrial Complex as any Bush Republican ever did. That takes too much effort to understand. Its so much easier to marginalize a guy like Dr Paul because we can do it in a 30 second sound byte.

One of the many differences that lies in the gap between Ron Paul and the other contenders for the 2008 Presidential Nomination is his ability to look past an individual's personal beliefs and see the larger and much more important message that lies beyond. He is not in this race to win the title of President of the United States. He is in this race to spread his unfaltering values. It is not white supremacy that Ron Paul is advocating. He's advocating this citizen's right to be a white supremecist and yours and my right as citizens to stand up and say white supremacy and the social degradation, destruction, and hate mongering it brings are wrong. I can't guarantee Ron Paul will stop white supremacy. I don't even think it's on his agenda to try but then again it's not really a tangible enemy you can eradicate through the use of guns, bombs, or politcal policy. It's a concept deeply rooted in people's minds that can only wither through knowledge, elightenment, and the setting of good examples worth following which is, from what I've learned, another message of Dr. Paul's.

I do not think you did your homework very well. Dr Paul explained this situation in his interview on Fox News. http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Ron_Paul_Owns_Neil_Cavuto_on_Fox_News He does not think it practical to give back the money as since he has hundreds of thousands of donations he cannot screen each one. Even now he knows the source of the donation his logic is, why give the money back to do evil when he can keep it to spread the word of peace and prosperity? Makes sense to me. The real immorality, as Dr Paul points out, are the large special interest groups that lump money together and send it to the presidential candidates. Huckabee is supported by Tyson Foods not because he like chicken but because he has loose immigration beliefs and so does Tyson Foods, Hilary by too many special interests to count and ALL other supposed top tier candidates are the same. This is immoral as this money is supporting corporate agendas and profits not the agendas of you and I. Say what you will but Ron Paul's record speaks for itself. He is consistent and truthful. It would be nice to have a truthful President for a change, wouldn’t it? We need him now before we are all run by Exxon, Halliburton or Pfizer. Once again the MSM attacks the candidates supporters not the mans positions or voting record. They cannot touch the voting record or his personal integrity because there is no ammo. Wake up voters and Google Ron Paul. Quit reading these rags that have little or no research departments and are run by the same big business interests that want to control our lives. Find out who owns CBS, ABC etc. The owner of this paper, Baltimore Sun, Sam Zell is the owner of many other major businesses (Equity Group, Cubs, etc) and newspapers (LA Times, Chicago Tribune etc). He too has his own corporate agenda that he wants us to follow. If this actually gets published please find out for yourself and you will see where we are heading and Ron Paul is the only candidate that wants to take us in a direction of Peace and Freedom. Please Google Ron Paul today.

Anything that the MSM determines in its own definition of immoral is now acceptable for an attack on Ron Paul's campaign. So sad that you stoop to such lows. So freaking what! Who cares who gave him money as long as it was lawfully obtained, unlike some other candidates! Would I read articles condemning Obama for accepting $$ from Black movements? Of course not. It wouldn't even be an issue would it? It is getting quite obvious that the Mainstream press can't dig anything up on Dr. Paul so it continues its attack any way it can and this of course opens the eyes ofmore and more Americans and people worldwide at the true motives of the MSM. Of course the media does not attatch "no chance of winning the nomination" or "fringe candidate" slogans to other candidates they write about; not even those who have no money and truly have no chance of winning anything. Of course not because they do not fear the actions of those because it would be business as usual even if they were elected. It is clear as the evidence shows that the status quo does in fact fear a Ron Paul administration and is doing whatever they can to undermine and discredit the campaign of the ONLY HONEST candidate with a track record supporting his character and his platform. Yes MSM, America IS WAKING UP and Ron Paul MAY WELL WIN THE NOMINATION AND THEN THE PRESIDENCY OF THIS NATION! Oh "no", you don't want to hear that, but maybe you better get used to it!

Ron Paul is doing exactly what I would have expected him to do practice freedom. Unless someone is a criminal I don't understand the MEDIA on this. This whole thing reeks of a political attack because Paul is on the move up because people in the USA want Liberty back and this whole issue proves why. When you don't have freedom of thought, what freedom do you really have? It really is time to shed somel
