The Swamp

by Christi Parsons

Mike Huckabee has been a big hit with crowds in the Carolinas lately, but he's also picking up a tail of critics following him around.

Voters who showed up for one event this weekend had their car windows papered with flyers critical of Huckabee, contending that the Arkansas Republican and former Baptist minister isn't a "true conservative."

The flyers make a big deal of Huckabee's past support for education for children regardless of their imigration status.

Apparently, Huckabee has been too supportive of "diversity in culture" for the writers of the flyer, who identify themselves with the tagline of "Lynchburg Christian Students for the Truth."

"Is something wrong with our Southern Christian culture?" the flyer asks.

Several Huckabee fans were dismissive of the flyers when they returned to their cars. But one local Republican leader said he thinks that, while Huckabee will be very popular with South Carolina conservatives, he has to be careful with the immigration issue.

Local residents are very upset about illegal immigration, said Samuel D. Harms, III, the Greenville County Republican chairman.

"Mike Huckabee's got to explain it," he said, "or he risks alienating the conservative base."

Could one of our "True Conservatives" tell me what the hell a "True Conservative" is?

I don't trust a man from Hope, Arkansas since the pervert spent 8 years in the Oval Office. Huckabee like Slick Willy hails from Hope.
Now, Huckabee is too liberal on illegals and he was a tax and spender in Arkansas when he was Governor.
He is not conservative enough to lead the GOP.Jerry White, Springfield, IL

He's a snake oil guy -- don't trust him at all. Besides playing the religion card, running as Baptist preacher, poor decision making on inmates, no compassion like Jesus with the aids victims, ETC. He's even similiar to Bill Clinton, and Clinton's not a Republican.

Here's an example of his awful tax plan:
Rich Lowry: Huckabee's daft tax plan

If every illegal immigrant looked like Anna Kournikova or Helio Castroneves, would Republicans be so angry and anti-immigrant

The problem is not what an "illegal" looks like. It's what they cost. That's why we have laws on becoming ... say it with me "Legal" What country are they coming from? And why are they coming? And why do they send all their money back to the country they have ran from?

Easy, it's Tom Tancredo or Duncan Hunter. They aren't very popular so Republics had to "recruit" Fred Thompson who happens to be a COMPLETE DUD. The Republic Party is so bankrupt on ideas they have to rely on "starpower" to try to win office.

If a "true conservative" is Ronald Reagan then I guess it means they illegally sell arms to terrorists, support Saddam Husein, and put our country into endless debt.

Criminals did NOT build America; Citizens and LEGAL immigrants built it. Illegal Aliens and Immigration is NOT the same thing. 80% of the American people want an end to anarchy! This is NOT a Democrat, Republican, Independent issue. It's an American Issue.

Illegal aliens are criminals, those who hire them are criminals and those who aid-and-abet them are criminals.

Illegal aliens in America have NO rights. We are required by law to arrest and prosecute, deport them. (Title 8 U.S. Code) To report illegal aliens call the DHS National Hotline 1 866 DHS 2ICE. (1-866-347-2523)

No, matter your political party affiliation, and setting aside your thoughts on issues. We all need to remember what it is to be an American Citizen. We need to make sure our elected representatives obey their Oath of Office and keep their Oath of Allegiance. See http://tinyurl.com/2znnvl Know whom you are voting for.

Many people that are for Hucklebee seem not to understand the issues against the fair tax. Like collecting it. Any fair tax would have to be high enough that it would be cost effective to avoid it, legally or illegally. This isn't really a concern since I do not think he would be able to push this forward. However, he would not be the first politician that looked bad in pushing the fair tax durning a general election. Democrats could use his support of the fair tax against him.

He supports NAFTA and CAFTA, and says he is for fair trade. NAFTA has had a horrible impact on this country as well as other countries.
He is for globalization, done right, done fairly. Though he doesn't say what that means.
Nothing new here, most politicians are for these no matter what they say. It would be refreshing to have a politician that just said no, unless it was good for the citizens of this country.

OH GREAT MOSES FROM ARKANSAS, PLEASE OPEN THE IMMIGRATION SEA IN AMERICA AND FREE THE PEOPLE OF BONDAGE, SLAVERY, RACISM, POVERTY, ENDERNMENT CAMP SURVIVORS, RENDERED CHILDREN IN IMMIGRATION CAMPS AROUND AMERICA, SEPARATED FROM THEIR PARENTS TO ADD VALIDITY TO THEIR CONTINUED STAY FROM DEPORTATION.

OH GREAT MOSES HUCKABEE FROM ARKANSAS, WHERE IS THE AD FOR HUMANITY IF YOU ARE SO EVANGELICAL TODAY.

GOD WANTS WORLD CUP, NOT FALSE PROPHETS.

WE ALREADY HAVE ONE PERSON WHO HEARS THE VOICES, AND TOLD HIM THAT THE BIBLE WAS WRITTEN FOR HIM AS HE IS THE DICTATOR OF THESE GENERATIONS, AND YES HE IS KING GEORGE, REINCARNATED.

OH GREAT MOSES HUCKABEE, SHOW YOUR MERCY, AND WISDOM REGARDING IMMIGRATION IN AMERICA.

LET US KNOW WHAT YOU THOUGHT FIVE YEARS AGO WHEN YOUR CHURCH GROUNDS WERE CLEANED BY A HISPANIC THAT YOU DARED TO RENDER UNTO YOU THEN!

AMNESTY IS REALITY AND REALITY IS AMNESTY IN AMERICA!

LONG LIVE NANCY PELOSI!

Anyone interested in what Huckabee is really like face to face should try this funny (but it actually happened) column:

Mike Huckabee is correct. The Fair Tax is the product of the best economists in America and the way to reverse the corruption in this country. When you hear people demean it, assume they are advocates of the "Club for Greed", who would permit America go down the drain in order to maximize their personal profit.

Anyone interested in a very different story (and analysis) on illegal immigration should try:

Will the Real Huckabee Please Stand Up?

"Mike Huckabee's got to explain it," he said, "or he risks alienating the conservative base."
_____________________________
Would that be the same conservative base that helped the republitards retain control of congress a year ago?

Mike Huckabee reminds me of another Southern President; Jimmy Carter. Mr. Carter was a nice guy but he didn't know how to run the country. Inflation during his watch was reeling out of control and unemployment was high. It took Ronald Reagan who actually had a plan to turn things around. What is Mike's plan? To play the guitar and sing to us when we have a crisis. That will make me feel better.

Huckabee is two faced, you cannot trust him. Sorry, but high school grads applying for scholarships are not "kids". They are 18 years old, adults. As adults they have a choice, return to their own country and come back here on a visa for college, or become criminals like their parents.

Hickabee was thinking of giving scholarships to criminal illegals adults. Stupid.

AMNESTY IS RACIST AND UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

1. even Latinos estimate almost all the illegals are Latino.

2. Latinos, especially Mexicans, have a much easier time getting into the USA, and hence obtaining amnesty, than other Latin Americans and certainly their access is far greater than Asians etc. Even non-Mexicans Latinos such as Guatemalans, are far fewer because they get stopped by the Mexicans.

3. The politicians are very clear they want to increase not only their share of the present Latino American voting block, but increase the size the Latino voting block for the future.

4. Our law is based on family reunification.

5. Amnesty gives PREFERENCE, with an extreme racial bias, to Latino illegals, over law abiding legal immigrants of all races with respect to joining their own families.

6. Amnesty gives PREFERENCE, with a extreme racial bias, to Latinos when it comes to voting blocks in the USA. by disregarding the law and allowing one race to come in in unlimited numbers, while others are races are regulated.

7. Amnesty gives PREFERENCE, with extreme racial basis, to Latino illegals in terms of qualifications to enter the USA, ie history test, medical test, good character etc. Presumably almost every illegal has engaged in ID Theft, a five year felony, which I would think keep any legal immigrant from being approved.

no i agree with mike

I want someone strong on immigration and this man is not it. He is another Bush and I have had enough of the Bush family and the Clinton family.

Bettybb is right! Huckabee is as slimy as they come.

The question true conservatives have to ask themselves is...Is the Huckster worth taking a chance on, given what Bush has given us and nearly given us (amnesty and the end of our soveriegnty)? My answer is "NO!"

I'm hoping for a brokered convention, which would give Ron Paul and Tancredo a shot at the nomination. The front tier is a joke and most of us on the right know it.

Quoting just asking"If every illegal immigrant looked like Anna Kournikova or Helio Castroneves, would Republicans be so angry and anti-immigrant" Republicans are not anti immigrant they are anti illegal immigrant. Key word is illegal. Definition: 1. unlawful; illegitimate; illicit; unlicensed. Illegal, unlawful, illegitimate, illicit, criminal can all describe actions not in accord with law. Illegal refers most specifically to violations of statutes

Raving Loon:

If you're looking for the definition of a "true conservative", there are a number of possible definitions. First, you should find out what a "nationalist conservative" and a "paleo conservative" are. I believe that a "true conservative" is a NATIONALIST CONSERVATIVE--not an "economic conservative" or a "social conservative". If you want a definition, I strongly recommend that you check out Lawrence Auster's amnation.com/vfr--a superb site for traditionalist conservatives.

You know, it amazes about people like Huckabee and other ethnic panderers. Can anyone tell me when ANY of these politicos have actually been concerned about American citizens. When have they said things like, "Gee we have to help Americans and stop the outsourcing. "We have to help Americans with all the crime their victims of. "We have to find a way to raise Americans to a higher standard." No, American citizens, apparently are nothing more than those people who pay the taxes and "COOPERATE" AND IF WE DON'T, then apparently according to Huckabee, Giuliani, and McCain etc. we are racists or that other stupid word starting with an X I think. We need leadership for Americans, not millions of people who were never invited here by the greater American citizenry.

Don't some of you people get it? Huckabee is a Democratic plant. Look at his attitude towards so many issues. You see, the Democrats support him because they know that in a race between him and Hillary, he can't win.

I think this article shows how Huckabee would do as far as the illegals are concerned. STOP HIM!!!
"Huckabee promotes 'open door' policy at LULAC convention"

By Wesley Brown
Arkansas News Bureau
LITTLE ROCK - In a impassioned speech before hundreds of influential Hispanic civil rights leaders from across the nation, Gov. Mike Huckabee told a captive audience Wednesday that America is great because it has always opened it doors up to people seeking a better way of life.

Do unto others as you would have others do unto you, Huckabee said, citing the Golden Rule. I have tried to govern that way and it stands to reason that I really do believe that what made this great country so great and so unique is that it has always been a place for people to run to - and not run from.

I would hope that no matter who we are, or where we are from, that America should always be a place that opens its arms, opens it heart, opens its spirit to people who come because they want the best for their families ..., Huckabee said as the largely Hispanic audience gave him a standing ovation.

Huckabee was the keynote speaker, along with Tyson Foods Inc. Chairman and CEO John Tyson, at a noon luncheon of the League of United Latin American Citizens, which is holding its 76th annual convention in Little Rock.

About 10,000 political, community and business leaders, along with exhibitors and speakers are in Little Rock attending the convention at the Statehouse Convention Center. The convention started Monday and runs through Saturday.

Although he never actually talked about the U.S. or Arkansas immigration policy, Huckabee made it very clear where he stood on the issue. In his opening remarks, he said the nation will need to address the concerns of the Hispanic community because of its growing influence and population base.

Pretty soon, Southern white guys like me may be in the minority, Huckabee said jokingly as the crowd roared in laughter.

He told the LULAC delegates that their presence in the state's capital city was very important because Arkansas has one of the fastest growing Hispanic populations in the nation.

Your gathering is so very significant for our state, Huckabee said. We are delighted to have you.

Despite several light moments, Huckabee did not stray away from several controversial issues that made him a target of criticism during the recently ended 85th General Assembly. He said Arkansas needs to make the transition from a traditional Southern state to one that recognizes and cherishes diversity in culture, in language and in population.

This is an issue that is going to require extraordinary efforts on both sides of the border, particularly those coming from Mexico, Huckabee said of verifying the status of illegal aliens. But I am confident that our government will recognize that we should accommodate people who wish to provide the best opportunities for their families (and) employers so that we can make sure our economy has the necessary work force.
During the legislation session, Huckabee criticized an immigration bill by Republican senators Jim Holt of Springdale and Denny Altes of Fort Smith as un-Christian, un-American, irresponsible and anti-life.

Senate Bill 206, which died in the Senate, would have required proof of citizenship to register to vote and also force state agencies to report suspected cases of people living in the country illegally. Holt, R-Springdale, replied later to Huckabee's comments that Christian charity does not include turning a blind eye to lawbreaking.

The Republican governor, who many believe will run for president in 2008, also backed legislation that would have opened the door for illegal immigrants in Arkansas to receive college scholarships.

House Bill 1525 by Rep. Joyce Elliott, D-Little Rock, was approved by the House but eventually failed in the Senate. Huckabee reiterated Wednesday that he believes every child, regardless of their parent's immigration status, should have an opportunity to receive an education in the U.S.

I ... believe that an education for every child is the most important single factor to give everyone to be their very best, he said.

In one humorous moment, Huckabee sounded very much like a presidential candidate when he recalled his educational upbringing in Hope and reminded the crowd that another famous Arkansas governor and former president grew up in the small southwest Arkansas town.

I too still believe in a place call Hope, Huckabee said, mimicking former President Clinton's famous acceptance speech at the 1992 Democratic National Convention.

Before Huckabee spoke, John Tyson thanked the Hispanic community for standing by the Springdale-based food giant during the federal government's investigation of the company a few years ago. The U.S. Justice Department investigation alleged that Tyson helped to smuggle illegal aliens into the U.S. and employed them at various chicken-processing plants across the Southeast.

After a seven-week trial, Tyson and several managers of poultry processing plants were acquitted in March 2003 of those charges.

At the time, it was a very difficult and very tough time for our company, Tyson said. Thank you LULAC for standing by us.

Tyson also credited LULAC leaders for pushing the company to add Hispanics to the Tyson board and promote more Latinos to upper management and executive positions.

He also said in that last 15 years, the number of Hispanics that work for the Arkansas company has increased significantly.

I am proud to tell you that more than 40,000 of our workers are Latinos, Tyson said of the company's 114,000 employees. We are learning, growing and benefiting from that diversity.

there are only 2 true conservative running:Duncan Hunter and Tom Tancredo, i hope tancredo drops and endorse Hunter

For the truth on Huckabee, see www.arkansasfreedom.com

The last "real Conservatives" in office were Dwight D. Eisenhower and Theodore Roosevelt. What do you think they would say of Huckabee? They'd be flabbergasted that this liberal in a sheeps hide has the gall to call himself conservative...

HUCKABEE IS HORRIBLE on IMMIGRATION! That's why everyone has been putting this sticker on their car:

"Support More Illegal Immigration: Huckabee 2008!"

Check it out:http://www.cafepress.com/noillegalaliens

Higher education is a win win situation. Let them go to college and earn a degree..then we TAX the heck of them just like any real American. Ronald Reagan the truest of all real conservatives approved the 1986 amnesty. The SAW (Seasonal Agriculturas Workers). Bush Sr. approved TPS program and Nacara was drawn up by REPUBLICAN Congressmen. The GOP has been the Party of the immigrants. DEMS talk the talk GOP walks the walk. A neanderthal like Tancredo got 1% of the vote that he deserved. Statistically the percentage of nut population is higher. HE looks ridiculous at the debates,

GO HUCK GO!!!!!

Massive, unassimilated Illegal, or legal immigration from Mexico will turn the United States into Mexico. What is so hard to understand about that. It's about as obvious as one plus one equals two. Drugs, crime, rape, murder, theft. Yep.

What gets me about most people is their utter hypocracy. If you asked most illegal aliens from Mexico, "would you like it if the whole United States had to talk Spanish", what do you honestly think they would say? Americans are so deluded about so many things, including myself. But I'm trying to get clarity and I've succeeded to some degree, just by listening to the conversations of some of the illegals and their enablers. I'm sorry if this "offends" some people but the truth will do this most always.

America is a nation of immigrants, and our current immigration system is quite broken. It must be fixed somehow. It is simply not possible or practical or even moral to round up all of the illegal immigrants, split their families up, and send them back. I find it ironic that the conservatives who
Sure, these people are here illegally. But let's face it; the legal process is rather arbitrary and broken. Back in the 1920's, the 'legal' process was for these people to be interined at Ellis Island, stood in line, checked over for 1-2 minutes by a flunkie doctor, had their belongings piled up in a massive pile, given a cursory check of completely useless and usually illegible documents, and sent on their way. A few years after that, racist and classist trends almost shut the doors completely to people coming from the 'wrong places' for several years. The family of our own Colin Powell is one noted example.

Yet they fought on, and are Americans now, and we are better off for their contribution.

You see the trend? America has a history of demeaning, arbitrary rulings with regards to immigration, and therefore to decry illegal immigrants as somehow enemies or devils or evil usurpers is simply to repeat this sad history. To continue the beaurocracy is a sin.
