Here's more on this week's mini-drama between Fox News Channel and a liberal advocacy group that says Fox wouldn't air its issue ad featuring a replica of the Constitution being put through a shredder.
Fox News says the Center for Constitutional Rights, which sought to buy a 30-second block of time to show the ad last evening, walked away and cried to the media once Fox News asked for some documentation to support the group's contention that the Bush administration was destroying the Constitution.
"These guys never played it straight," says Paul Rittenberg, senior vice president for ad sales for the news channel. Rittenberg believes the center was never serious about placing an ad on Fox, but wanted to use the rejection for publicity purposes.
The flap began this week when the center issued a release saying Fox had refused to air the ad, which features actor Danny Glover. An ad rep from Fox, Erin Kelly, sent an email to the center saying that the center needed to factually establish that the Bush administration was indeed destroying the Constitution.
Rittenberg said that was never meant literally, adding that the center needed to somehow documents its charges and didn't do so. "To say the president is destroying the Constitution is a pretty heavy claim," Rittenberg says. However, the center's ad will run on CNN and MSNBC, the center says.
The center is arguing Wednesday's Guantanamo detainee case before the Supreme Court on behalf of some of the detainees. It sought to buy 30 seconds of time on Bill O'Reilly's show for $30,000. Rittenberg said that O'Reilly was booked for the week and that Fox suggested Shepard Smith's show (with a rate cut to $25,000; sorry, Shep) instead. That was as far as things got.
Rittenberg is aware that liberal critics of Fox News accuse the channel of using a double standard, with the primary example being the Swift Boat ads three years ago that attacked the military record of John Kerry in Vietnam. He said in that case, the 527 group that created the ad "had stacks of documentation of why they felt that that was appropriate. They had supporting affidavits that said we believe this is what happened."
For the record, Fox News does some $600 million in annual ad sales. Rittenberg says that issue ads account for just about 5 percent of that tally. Maybe the center should have been marketing an erectile dysfunction drug instead.

Comments
Bush doesn't need censorship, he has FOX. He only wishes he could impose right-winged propaganda throughout the entire media.

Hmmm, NBC and its subsidiary MSNBC refused to air ads that featured Iraqi Vets and their families in which they said we must stay in Iraq and finish the job. Did the Swamp cover that? No.
So, Fox refuses an ad, and the Swamp and its Leftist cohorts go hog wild. NBC refuses to air an ad, and the Swamp and its Leftist cohorts are quiet.
Gee, I wonder why?
By the way, where is the Swamp item about an aide to DEMONCRATIC Sen. Maria Cantwell being arrested for propositioning sex with a 13 year old?
I guess the Swamp and its Leftist cohorts will be quiet about that too, huh?

"Summary: Media outlets including CNN, NBC, The New York Times, and the Los Angeles Times reported on a recent advertisement buy in support of the war in Iraq but ignored that two of the four advertisements link the Iraq war to 9-11."

So what did Iraq have to do with 9-11? What did Afghanistan and Pakistan have to do with 9/11? What does the President have to do with the Constitution?

Rittenberg is an idiot who must not be reading the news.
But the leftist claims (although I am a leftist) are unreasonable. FOX has a right to air (or not air, as the case may be) whatever they wish. We leftists have not aired certain commercials that were pro war. We have no right to tell FOX what they can or can't air, not only is that wrong, but it turns us into hypocrits as well. It is however, unfortunate that FOX is not airing this commercial, as it would get out th word of this administrations "problems".

Blue is a refreshing kind of Leftist. We need more Leftists like Blue.
Ughhh, you ask what did Afghanistan have to do with 9/11? Are you kidding me? Let me refresh your memory: Al Qaeda was housed in Afghanistan. Had refuge and help from the Taliban. Had active training camps in Afghanistan through the aid and assistance of the Taliban. After 9/11, Bush told the Taliban that if they handed over bin Laden and Al Qeada and shut down its training camps, then we would not invade Afghanistan. The Taliban refused.
Does any of this ring a bell?

What a silly statement. You're a jounalist?
Wow, a whacko lefty group couldn't back up one of it's claims. What a shock.

So let me get this straight - because the Swift Boat nuts had affadavits that said we BELIEVE (not know) that this has happened, that is OK with Fox. So I am sure that if Fox would have asked CCR for their documentation, they could have told them that they BELIEVE this has happened. That should have been good enough with them.
Oh, and Johnny D?? I heard about Maria Cantwell's person on the news - and he was fired IMMEDIATELY by Senator Cantwell.
So when will Larry Craig resign??

See what happens, Mr. Oliphant, when you do what a reporter SHOULD do and try to get BOTH sides of the story? Talking to Fox should have been done yesterday, before running with this (non)story. But in your haste to give free publicity to the latest Leftie press release, you gave only the one point of view.
There IS a media outlet with double standards here, one for Liberals, the other for Conservatives: the "Swamp".

Will Faux News ask for documentation to support ALL ads in the next year leading up to the presidential election? When I sit down with a cup of coffee in the evening and want to see news, I surf different channels. Sometimes I'll view Faux for a few mins. then think, in what universe is this stuff happening? The women on Faux seem cold and mean, and the political info appears to be propaganda telling me to be afraid; be very afraid.

Bobin, while I am not going to defend Sen. Craig, I do hope you know the difference between an adult propositioning an adult as alleged in Sen. Craig's case, and an adult propositioning a 13 year old as in Sen. Cantwell's aid?

Little Johnny D,
Blue = Bruce. He's used this moniker before. About the same time he trotted out Former Leftist and JFK Democrat. Bruce will go to any length to try to give the appearance that anyone shares your and his fringe ideology.

Fair and balanced non-biased journalist Johnny D,
How come you used the word alleged when you mention Sen. Craig yet don't say alleged when used in the context of Sen. Cantwell's aide?

FOX has made it a point to exploit an elitist "because we're American, we're great" attitude, which at times nauseates simple, humble Americans who go about their lives just wanting to live in peace and harmony with the rest of the world. Fox's over-the-top patriotism has me hearing marching boots, while saluting the American flag as we bomb another third world country and justify it by saying, "We're doing it for their own good. We bring democracy and take it or die." Be wary of propaganda that smacks of "superiority" over other people because isn't that how Hitler got his power? Of course, Bush is not Hitler, but his grandfather Prescott Bush who financed the death camps in Nazi Germany would be proud of his grandson's methoda. Read:

Fox News is the only truth telling news outlet in America, I even watch it when I'm writing for my little electrical contracting trade rag publication, it helps me remember that I'm always "selling" something:

Bobin,
It sounds like Jabba the Hut Johnny D is talking about (R) Mark Foley again.

Janet, dear, I tend to not be as objective when some sick adult looks to abuse a young child. Craig did not such thing. And before you Loons trot out Mark Foley. Foley never had sex with a page nor did he solicit sex with a male page and those he did e-mail were 17 years old or older.
In case, you folks don't know the story about the Cantwell aide, and the Swamp or Tribune would never cover it, here is part of the news:
According to the "Statement of Facts" obtained by thesmokinggun.com, McHaney and the FBI's "cooperating witness" were "conversing online Friday afternoon when the CW asked whether McHaney was interested in engaging in anal sex with a 13-year-old boy. 'I'll be there,' McHaney allegedly replied. He later asked for a photo of the child with whom he and the CW would have sex and whether the boy had "any pubes." When told no, McHaney allegedly replied, 'That's hot.' McHaney was nabbed in the lobby of an unnamed 'predetermined location,; where he had arranged to meet CW."
The federal provision that McHaney was charged under (18 U.S.C. 2422(b) covers any person who "induces, entices, or coerces any individual who has not attained the age of 18 years, to engage in prostitution or any sexual activity," although it is unclear if the FBI's "CW" was a minor as well.

"Blue's" post is highly suspect and is most likely a fraud. Having lived in Washington DC for over ten years and met literally thousands of liberals, progressives and Democrats (they are not synonomous), I've never met even one who has ever referred to themselves as a "leftist."
Does anyone know anyone who truly identifies themselves as a "leftist?"

Jones,
Swampster Bruce goes by the name Former Leftist sometimes, in addition to Blue, Sierra, Damen, BOB, bob, JFK Democrat and many others. He's our resident RNC blogbot.
