The Democrats rush in where Rush fans wish they wouldn't tread: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is taking the Senate floor today to seek support for a letter rebuking Rush Limbaugh for his "phony soldiers'' commentary. More than a typical Limbaugh "rant,'' the Senate leader said today, Limbaugh's remark about war-protesting soldiers was "drivel.''
Limbaugh is the radio talk show host who made mention of "phony soldiers'' during a discussion about people calling for the withdrawal of troops from Iraq last week.
This drew howls of protest from Democratic Party leaders, followed by Limbaugh's own howl of protest that he was misunderstood. Limbaugh maintained later in the week that he had been speaking of only one "genuine phony soldier'' who had made up stories about atrocities he witnessed though he had never even served in Iraq.
And then Limbaugh went on to add a couple more phonies to his roster, including Rep. Jack Murtha, the Pennsylvania Democrat, decorated Vietnam veteran and retired Marine colonel who opposes the war. And Limbaugh's fans cried foul about the media's reporting of what Limbaugh had said in the first place -- he had spoken of "phony soliders,'' not one phony, and it wasn't clear at all that he might be labeling just one impersonator with that tag.
Now Reid (D-Nev.) is calling on Mark Mays, CEO of Clear Channel Communications, to publicly repudiate Rush Limbaugh’s characterization of troops who speak out against the Iraq war as “phony soldiers.”
Limbaugh did offer an apology today, but not for himself -- rather for Media Matters, an organization that circulated his remarks about "phony soldiers.''
"I want to apologize to all of the members of the United States Military, both in uniform and out, active duty and retired, for Media Matters for America,'' Limbaugh said today. "They will not apologize to you, and they will not apologize to me. I want to apologize to you on behalf of them. As all of you military personnel know, I, since (the) beginning of time and since the beginning of this program, certainly 19 years ago, have been one of the most ardent, loyal, in-awe supporters of any and all who wear the uniform -- including those who disagree with the mission.''
"Freedom of speech is one of our country’s most cherished values,'' Reid told the Senate. "Nothing sets us further apart than the countries and regimes we oppose than our belief that everyone’s opinion matters, and everyone has the right to express it.
"That is why, when we hear things on the radio that are offensive, by and large, we tolerate them. But last week, Rush Limbaugh went way over the line – and while we respect his right to say anything he likes, his unpatriotic comments cannot be ignored.''
"What's most despicable is that Rush Limbaugh says these... things to make more money,'' Sen. Tom Harkin of Iowa, added on the Senate floor today. "I don't know, maybe he was just high on his drugs again.... If so, he should let us know,'' Harkin told the Senate. "I think the best thing to do is just tune him out. Tune out Rush Limbaugh.''
In his remarks, as prepared for delivery, Reid said more:
"During his show last Wednesday, Rush Limbaugh was engaged in one of his typical rants. This rant was unremarkable and indistinguishable from his usual drivel, which has been steadily losing listeners for years – until he crossed that line by calling our men and women in uniform who oppose the war in Iraq ‘phony soldiers.’
"This comment was so beyond the pale of decency that it cannot be left alone,'' Reid said. "And yet, he followed it up with denials and an attack on Congressman Jack Murtha, a 37-year active member of the Marine Corps.
"We have been debating the Iraq war here in the Senate and throughout the country for not months, but years. There are good, patriotic Americans who favor the war – and good, patriotic Americans who oppose President Bush’s handling of it. Neither party holds a patent on patriotism. I know all my Republican colleagues would agree with that.
"Yet Rush Limbaugh took it upon himself to attack the courage and character of those fighting and dying for him and for all of us. Rush Limbaugh got himself a deferment from serving when he was a young man. He never served in uniform. He never saw in person the extreme difficulty of maintaining peace in a foreign country engaged in civil war. Ye he thinks that his opinion on the war is worth more than those who are on the front lines.
"And what’s worse – Limbaugh’s show is broadcast on Armed Forces Radio, which means that thousands of troops overseas and veterans here at home were forced to hear this attack on their patriotism. Rush Limbaugh owes the men and women of our Armed Forces an apology.
"On Friday, many Democrats joined me in drafting a letter to the Chief Executive Officer of Clear Channel, Mark Mays that we will send out this week. Here is what we wrote:
"Dear Mr. Mays,
'At the time we sign this letter, 3,801 American soldiers have been killed in Iraq, and another 27,936 have been wounded. 160,000 others awoke this morning on foreign sand, far from home, to face the danger and uncertainty of another day at war.
'Although Americans of goodwill debate the merits of this war, we can all agree that those who serve with such great courage deserve our deepest respect and gratitude. That is why Rush Limbaugh’s recent characterization of troops who oppose the war as “phony soldiers” is such an outrage.
'Our troops are fighting and dying to bring to others the freedoms that many take for granted. It is unconscionable that Mr. Limbaugh would criticize them for exercising the fundamentally American right to free speech. Mr. Limbaugh has made outrageous remarks before, but this affront to our soldiers is beyond the pale.
'The military, like any community within the United States, includes members both for and against the war. Senior generals, such as General John Batiste and Paul Eaton, have come out against the war while others have publicly supported it. A December 2006 poll conducted by the Military Times found just 35 percent of service members approved of President Bush’s handling of the war in Iraq, compared to 42 percent who disapproved. From this figure alone, it is clear that Mr. Limbaugh’s insult is directed at thousands of American service members.
‘Active and retired members of our armed forces have a unique perspective on the war and offer a valuable contribution to our national debate. In August, seven soldiers wrote an op-ed expressing their concern with the current strategy in Iraq. Tragically, since then, two of those seven soldiers have made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq.
‘Thousands of active troops and veterans were subjected to Mr. Limbaugh’s unpatriotic and indefensible comments on your broadcast. We trust you will agree that not a single one of our sons, daughters, neighbors and friends serving overseas is a “phony soldier.” We call on you to publicly repudiate these comments that call into question their service and sacrifice and to ask Mr. Limbaugh to apologize for his comments.’
Reid told the Senate:
“Just as patriotism is the exclusive realm of neither party, taking a stand against those who spew hate and impugn the integrity of our troops is a job that belongs to all of us. I can’t help but wonder how my Republican colleagues would have reacted if the tables were turned – if a well-known Democratic radio personality had used the same insulting line of attack against troops who support the war.
“The letter I read will be available on the Senate floor for the entire day. My colleagues on both sides of the aisle will have every chance to add their names to it, and I encourage all of us to do so. If we take the Republican side at their word that last week’s vote on another controversial statement related to the war was truly about patriotism, not politics, then I have no doubt that they will stand with us against Limbaugh’s comments with equal fervor.
“I am confident we will see Republicans join with us in overwhelming numbers. Anything less would be a double standard that has no place in the United States Senate. I ask my colleagues, Democrat and Republican alike, to join together against this irresponsible, hateful, and unpatriotic attack by calling upon Rush Limbaugh to give our troops the apology they deserve.”

Comments
What an idiot - how did Reid get his job? Limbaugh has had the full audio and transcript of all this on his website since last week - available for anyone to see. None of what Reid says is even remotely close to what was said. Reid is either illiterate or a liar.

Harry Reid is mad at Rush because Dickie Durbin orchestrated this stupidity.Rush has documented his comment about phony soldiers to be about one guy who served 45 days and was guilty of lying to get VA benefits. He served 5 months for this offense. He claimed among other things to be a Navy Seal serving In Iraq.
I can't believe Harry Reid is dumb enough to take on Limbaugh it will be the beginning of his undoing.
Just go Rush's website and you will see Rush has it all documented.
In reading Reid's bio it says his mother was a laundress in a brothel in Nevada and young Harry grew up there. He's gone a long way from the brothel but maybe it effected his judgment and his ability to communicate. He always sounds like he is a typical whining liberal.
Sending letters to Limbaugh's radio syndicator will get Reid nowhere he is a pompous jerk just like Durbin. Jerry White, Springfield, IL

Senaturd HARRY'bought-and-paid-for-by-the-Vegas-mob'REID has demanded an apology from RUSH LIMBAUGH for the words 'phoney soldiers' taken out of context and used by DEMBHOLES MOVEON.ORG, MEDIAMATTERS.COM, and CLINTON INC. who routinely 'smear' the U.S. MILITARY. SENATURD REID is making himself more of a (bum) than he already is!!![The original phrase 'phoney soldiers' was used by LIMBAUGH to describe fraudulant soldiers who had been published by the 'NATIONAL MEDIA' who didn't verify, didn't check the made-up atrocities of these 'phoney soldiers' supposedly in IRAN or AFGHANISTAN. The '^NATIONAL MEDIA' and SENATURD REID attempt to change the dialogue again!!! Hey REID isn't it time you do some of the people's business instead of this 'DEMBHOLE POLITICAL CHARADE'???

Dosen't anyone remember Reid is the one who said "The war is lost" about 6 months ago? WHere was his support for the troops when he was supporting al qaida?

Which is worse? A sitting Senator lying or the media that helps promote the lie?
Hey Mark Sliva, are you ever going to comment on the overwhelming evidence that proves you, as well as Ried, have taken Rush's comments way out of context?
(crickets chirping)
Any comment on ABC's report on Jesse McBeth, where they reffered to him as a Phony Soldier just like Rush?
Are you really this much of a hack?

Well well well - it looks like Rush has hit a nerve here... again. The democRats have been looking for a long time to come up with a way of implementing censorship because on a daily basis they get spanked by Rush using his one and only weapon which has always been simply the Truth.
The democRats only have themselves to blame. Considering the traitorous and treasonous comments from democRats like Reid and Murtha and Durban and Pelosi it's apparent that their only goal is to undermine this great nation and sell it out to the Islamic freaks from the Middle East.
Do the democRats really think that the Islamic murderers in the Middle East are their friends? Do they believe that they will find favor with the homicidal bombing Idiots of Islam if we (America) turned around and ran away from the battle with our tail between our legs? From their words and their actions it appears that they do. The democRat Party's number one goal seems to be the selling out of America to a one-world Islamic government, coupled with a complete dismantling of the sovereign nation of the United States America, and the eventual sinking down into the abyss of socialism. (See “Clinton”)
It's also quite disgusting that well over half of this article is composed of what that traitor Harry Reid said and wrote. If anyone owes the troops an apology it's Rep. Reid for his public remarks against them and their dedicated efforts, calling them a failure and saying we've lost the war. How does he think that makes a soldier at the battlefield feel? I know if our Commander-in-Chief had said those things and I were in the military, I would be boldly non-stop calling for his immediate resignation. How dare he even think that Republicans would "join with us in overwhelming numbers". Maybe McCain would but he’s really just a democRat dressed up like a Republican. Mr. Reid, you are the one that is "irresponsible, hateful, and unpatriotic". I call on you and the entire democRat Party to "give our troops the apology they deserve." I also call upon all of you to do the right thing and resign. Now, that would be good for this nation.

THIS is today's Democratic party? Using the floor in Congress to attack a radio personality? If that's the most important thing Reid can think of to do while on his constituents payroll, it doesn't say much for the intelligence level of his voter base.

If there is free speach for pro and anti war speech then surely Rush has the free speach rights as well. Just because Reid doesn't like the message doesn't change the fact we have free speech.

Rush is the same as MoveOn.org, just on the other side aisle. It is political grand standing and a time waster.

It is ridiculous and appalling to me that the US Senate finds time to debate the personal opinions of Rush Limbaugh. This type of childish banter disrespects the American public and is a large part of why our elected officials are largely viewed as talking heads undeserving of there positions.

Rush Limbaugh has made himself a millionaire insulting decent people. What is amazing is that anyone listens to him.

WOW, SENSE OF THE SENATE EVOLVES AGAIN.
Rush Limbaugh burst new bubble on his butt, and can now avoid yet another war.
CAPTAIN STUPID APPEARS TO BE POPPING THOSE LITTLE BLUE PILLS AGAIN, HE IS ATTACKING YOUNG MEN, MAYBE NOT AS YOUNG AS WOULD PREFER BUT YET, STILL YOUNG AND VUNERABLE TO THE PRESSURES OF A WACKO CAUCASION.
Rush can thank George Bush and his Medicare Stroke America plan that's been going on. Rush's base is not living as long as BIG POPPY PROMISED.

Harry Reid writes: "A December 2006 poll conducted by the Military Times found just 35 percent of service members approved of President Bush’s handling of the war in Iraq, compared to 42 percent who disapproved. From this figure alone, it is clear that Mr. Limbaugh’s insult is directed at thousands of American service members."
But this is not at all clear. This figure states that 42 percent of those surveyed disapprove of Pres. Bush's HANDLING of the war. It is a stretch of logic to assume from this number that 42 percent of those surveys disapprove of the war itself , the reasons for going to war or of the belief on the part of the soldiers that the US can win the war. I'm not defending Limbaugh. He stepped in it on this one, and he's going to take his lumps. But that survey question, based solely on the language used by Sen. Reid in his letter, was very specific. And, when using such surveys, one should not extrapolate beyond the scope of a question. For example, one might ask me, "Do you believe the Cubs will win the World Series?" I would say, no. That in no way reflects on my hope and earnest desire that they do.

Dang, you people are easily fooled. Rush doesn't care if what he says is true or not. He's an actor and he gets paid well for inciting both sides. He goes for the un-thinking, emotional, ill educated person who will rant and rave and not bother to find out what is true. In reality, he's a phoney. The Democrats could pay him more and he'd be on their side. OK, here's what I really want to know. What did he do on his vacation with lots of money, Viagra and some other "prescription" drugs, some condoms, and in an area where children can be bought for the right price. Where is your moral outrage??

I love to hate Rush Limbaugh. He is a complete ass. I listen to his show to hear what latest he is spewing. His show is extremely entertaining.
The phony controversy is just that. After hearing the same exact transcript live, I read it the next day on mediamatters site. I was completely shocked when he was taken out of context for these statements.
Harry Ried is the pot calling the kettle black. He has said the military has failed and that the War is lost. Senators Durbin, Kerry, and Kennedy have slimed the troops with numorous falshoods.
The US has opened up saddams torture chambers. The US troops terrorize women abnd children in the dead of night. The US troops are Pol pot, or Nazis.
Jesse Macbeth was mentioned specifically by him before this made up incident. Brian Ross of ABC exposed the anti war "Phony Heroes" two days earlier.
And unlike what media matters or Senator Reid said, Rush did explain what he meant by Phony Soldiers, by saying Jesse Macbeth and others like him. Right after the caller got off the phone.
Even though Limbaugh is a big blow hard, he reveals himself over a series of shows.

It is outrageous to hear Senator Reid make such accusations and slanderous comments regarding Rush Limbaugh. It is Mr. Limbaugh who has supported the troops when our own government officials, yes, senators and congressman have deemed the war on terror as lost, accused soldiers of murder, rape and other outrageous accusations. I have never heard them condemn the terrorist that have beheaded OUR citizens. That apparently is not outrageous. STOP the hippocrisy men of government. GET to legislating and uniting to fight one common enemy. A house divided will not STAND. What is it going to take for you people to care more about the people than about YOUR politics? I urge you to condemn Mr Reid and others that have targeted a private citizen to take attention away from their own "atrocities" and lack of patriotism. Stop playing games and get to work!!! Pass this on to Mr. Reid. What are you doing about terrorrists killing our soldiers??? What are you doing to stop terrorism?? Stop the rhetoric. Can you stoop any lower??

Harry Reid should be the one to apologize to our soldiers, he said the war was lost. Well if it is lost, who won.

He used the plural "soldiers", and if he is the "excellent" broadcaster he brags he is, then using the plural (more than once)was not an accident. Any fool can tell he was speaking in the plural. Unless, of course, they use the plural on words such as "childrens". He's a big, fat phallic symbol smoking yellow coward.

It is truly a travesty that Limbaugh's corrosive commentary is what our military have to listen to.

Harry Reid, Tom Harkin and the rest of the far left cannot continue to get away with this bizarre and absolute unacceptable behavoir. They are taking time on the house floor on something they know is a made up lie and yet because they know they can get away with it (liberal media)...this kind of behavior continues. This is the leadership of the Democratic party! I really don't understand how these type of people can get relected because if you look at their record, what have they done? All they can do is try to smear a private citizen with the hopes that the media will pick up on it. Instead of Tune out Rush Limbaugh, America's response should be "Don't Re-Elect The Incompetency in Washington"!

Rush has issued a challenge to Reid to face him live and on-air. Reid knows that his assertions are false, to put it mildly, and will not have the guts to accept. His mission was to have these lies recorded in the Congressional Record under his Senatorial immunity. Anyone wishing to know the truth in this matter need only to go to Rush's web site where the full video of this alleged offense, which Rush posted last week, may be seen. You want homosexuals to marry, you want the USA to retreat, you want the government to legislate every little iota of private life, you believe that abortion isn't really killing a living human baby. Mr. Rush Limbaugh has more integrity in his little toe than all of the liberals added together in one lump sum.
Also, this creating an illusion of perversion and deception by misrepresentation of facts is simply stupid! How dare you imply that Rush was going to molest children?!!!! That's sick, even for a democRat. You will have to answer for that one.

Snark from the internets:
"Limbaugh to Receive Congressional Commendation for Identifying Phony Troops"
Comedian Rush Limbaugh receiving troop support award from senator Graham and representative Boehner
Washington, DC (APE) - Comedian and political pundit Rush Limbaugh today received a commendation and special award from the U.S. Senate for his help in identifying "phony soldiers". Limbaugh had earlier in the week declared on his talk radio show that troops who return from Iraq and criticized the president or his war policies were simply, "phony soldiers". Republican House Minority Leader John Boehner of Ohio and Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina stepped forward to publicly thank Limbaugh and offer a plaque in appreciation for his remarks and promised to push through a nonbinding commendation for his efforts.
Both promised to expedite the resolution through the Senate, and push for its overwhelming adoption in the House of Representatives.
"I believe the recent nonbinding condemnation of the dastardly ad from MoveOn will make it much easier for senators to approach this resolution in a more positive and bipartisan fashion," stated Senator Graham. "What's more, as an active reservist, I think that this is something we need to take a very close look at both in the active duty military and reserves. It would be invaluable to identify "phony soldiers" very early on and take steps to reform them."
"Mr. Limbaugh is just speaking from the heart," stated a tearful Representative Boehner. "He's just expressing feelings common to a lot of us in the House; feelings that we have frankly been afraid to express since the Democrats have ruthlessly seized power, and thwarted our attempts to shut down all forms of dialog and debate."

All of you who are slamming Rush: Y'all need to get your facts straight because y'all sound like complete idiots. Rush slammed one soldier who lied about having been in Iraq and then came out to the media saying he was in Iraq and our soldiers were killing babies and raping women. (Especially to the "moveon.org" crowd, that's not true!!!!)Perhaps if y'all liberals went back to Iran or France (or wherever it is you think is better than the USA) then America could really start to move forward.

I continue to be amazed at the viatrol that is spewed by folks on both sides of these political issues. I happen to dislike Rush for the many ugly things he stands for but the name-calling on both sides is uncalled for. What ever happened to civility?
Posted by: Gretchen | October 1, 2007 5:23 PM
Actually, the pile of dung in the media is only exceeded by the mountains of dung in our congress. It's just rhetorical nonsense, and Congress has no right to demand an apology from anyone. If Limbaugh does something illegal (or traitorous, etc.) then arrest him, or sue him. . . or whatever. The most amazing thing is that Reid believes that his remarks and demands are anything but trasparent political ploys to attack his political enemy. I seldom listen to the attacks of a man's enemy - what do his friends have to say?
Posted by: Paul | October 1, 2007 5:24 PM
Reid vs Limbaugh? Not even worth reporting on; it is incorrect and someone is trying to make waves. Speaking of this subject, when it comes to monitoring the airwaves, if the FCC can't restrict a show like the Manshow from derogetory and sexually abusive language, how can you expect an air jockey to be monitored? It's what this population will tolerate until someone cries "foul!" and the only things said publicly are nice words. People think they have a "right" to say bad things about others in the name of Free Speech and our country tolerates it.

It amazes me how many people have so much to say against Rush Limbaugh who in their own posted words clearly show that they know nothing of his show and especially nothing of his website.
The transcripts are posted in FULL, unedited, form and the audio is avaiable for those members of the Rush 24/7 program.
What amazes me even more are those individuals who still want to hold out for the DNC, Democrat party, Harry Reid and the like, to ever say anything that isn't an outright lie, isn't an attempted coverup for something they themselves have done, isn't the lowest of nothing but political posturing without any substance or real conviction. Anything for power is their ONLY conviction and everthing is a tool regardless of who gets hurt and how.

Let's take a poll of the military and see which side they support. The drive-by media will never do this, because the military loves Rush Limbaugh.
Posted by: Matt | October 1, 2007 5:38 PM
I am so sick of the hypocracy of the Left, always great fans of freedom of speech and First Amendment rights, until it's something they don't agree with. Then, their true Facist colours come out and nobody can speak unless they have the same Leftist views. Rush is a windbag and a broken record who hasn't had a thoughtful thing to say in a decade, but he has every right to say what he wants as do the Liberals. And remember, Liberalism is a mental disorder. Rage on, Michael Savage.
Posted by: Ken Silva | October 1, 2007 5:38 PM
It's actually pretty amazing, just how gullible & ignorant Rush's listeners are.
It's proven that he edited his comments, on his website, yet they still believe he was taken out of context.
They are continually lied to, and manipulated by Rush, Hannity, etc, and it's everyone else that's drinking the Kool-aid.
It just kind of makes a mind go numb, thinking that people are like this... so, indoctrinated, that reality is beyond their comprehension.
Posted by: Jon | October 1, 2007 5:38 PM
So the truth comes out yet again, and judging by the comments here in this forum it truth is still undeniable; Republicans like their party more than they like America! If you hypocrites has a true patriotic bone in your body you would stand up for America and its troops, but NOOOOOOOO! As always you take politics over country and side with the politics, no matter how in your own face they fly! You're all a DISGRACE to America, the land ALL AMERICANS SHOULD LOVE AND PROTECT!
I tell you what CHICKENHAWKS, step up and put on the uniform or step back and SHUT UP! Nobody wants to listen to you bunch of AMERICA HATERS ANYMORE!!!!!!
EAT IT!
Posted by: Caught | October 1, 2007 5:38 PM
stop tossing around buzz words/phrases like "support our troops" or "patriotism" when you use them as bumper stickers and have no idea what they mean. all your jingoism makes me sick to even associate myself as a human.
Posted by: you're all ignoramises | October 1, 2007 5:40 PM
The idiots who defend Rush Windbag are the traitors. This chickenhawk avoided going to Vietnam because he had a clump of ingrown hairs on his ass. He stated that drug addicts should be jailed, but didn't voluntarily go to jail when he was caught abusing Oxycontin. He condemns people who aren't Christians, but then goes to the Dominican Republic with someone else's Viagra. If you're an unmarried Christian, you aren't supposed to fornicate. What a hypocrite (or is "hippocrite" more appropriate?).

Rush: Paid shill who didn't read the morning's fax correctly. That day it was about phoning soldiers to tell them that you support them...not phonie soldiers. The only phonie soldiers that this war has is Bush and Cheney (can't get much more phony than that)... Oh,wait...what platoon did Rush serve in?
Posted by: batrhyme | October 1, 2007 5:46 PM
How are you going to began to trust what rush has documented on his website? It is his website, he can change and edit his transcripts to say whatever he wants them to say so he sounds good or right. This can be done with audio and video tape as well, it's called editing. However if he did nothing illegal by saying what he said, which I don't believe he did, then how is this any part of the governments business.
Posted by: Chris | October 1, 2007 5:48 PM
Where was it proven Jon? The only link I saw was where M. Matters admitted he was talking about McBeth.
Do you think you're being lied to by M. Matters and Mark Silva?
Posted by: JD | October 1, 2007 5:52 PM
This a perfect example of political theater. Washington has had political theater for years. I remember my fist real drama. Reagan had just called the Soviet Union the 'Evil Empire'. Well, all of his opponents said that this was the beginning of the end. The world would explode in war.
Oops didn't happen.
I did not know at the time, but global cooling was political theater at the time, now it is global warming.
The Senators did this to appease their base. They keep hiding behind the 60 votes, I am starting to wonder. Remember the 'nuclear option'. It seems that a simple majority is the right way to do it for me. Do only Republicans wield the 'nuclear option'?
How serious can they be?
Senator Frist threatened to use the 'nuclear option'. How can Republicans say no now so soon, they would be viewed as hypocrites (yet again)
Theater, plain as day!
Posted by: TheLaw | October 1, 2007 5:52 PM
Its amazing to me that you can support someone as ignorant as Rush L. and still criticize other. I am neither a Republican or Democrat because I found out long ago that money makes the world go around. Both parties are doing the same thing and lies are lies, whether they be about "phony soldiers" or the war being "lost." Wake Up people and stop believing everything you read or hear... No matter which "side" you are on!

Harry the weasel Reid wants Rush to apologize.
This guy should talk?
He didn't denounce the betray us add along with Hillary the witch Clinton. The $90,000 man (Jefferson) is still working. Jack the (bribe taker) Murtha is still working. Reid wants what? An Apology?
Lets rub his legs together and start a fire so the little weasel could burn.
Posted by: Clear Voice | October 1, 2007 5:55 PM
Who cares?! They are all liars. They have all been bought by lobbyists, big business, financially savvy self interests groups. None of them...not Reid, not Limbaugh, not Bush, not Congress care about anything "patriotic" left in this country. The american public should stop bitching and start banding together and SCREAMING for change.

All you liberal pimps for media matters and the demokrat hitlerians must really make your relatives proud. I'm guessing not one of you ever listens to Rush's show consistently enough to know what's being said on a first-hand basis. Forget Rush's website ... for that matter, forget media matters, and listen to the show for a couple months and you'll find that your beloved Soros mouth pieces are full of crap. But that would be too much to ask from those stuck in an intellectually vacant echo chamber.

What a time-waster. Limbaugh sat out his chance at combat due to a boil on his butt, so when he criticizes anybody who ever put on a uniform, the response should be hearty laughter and pointed reminders about his non-existent military career.
Posted by: Tom O | October 1, 2007 6:26 PM
A complete joke. Anyone who knows Rush understands he is totaly in support of the military.
It simply shows the liberals for what they are.
Disingenuous is way too mild. Filthy lying partisans is more like it.

You've gotta love the pro-war NeoClowns:
Rush Gasbag - dodged the Vietnam draft because he had an infected pimple on his arse and got his doctor to write him note.
Prez 29% - dodged the Vietnam draft by getting his daddies pals to put him in the National Guard, where he proceeded to serve his country by getting high on nose candy and getting drunk as a skunk.
Darth Destructo - dodged the Vietnam draft by getting 5-6 deferments because he had "better things to do" at the time.
Frequent Fox "News" guest -Ted Nugent - dodged the Vietnam draft by crapping in his own pants before he went in for his draft physical, he says he did this on purpose so they would think that he was crazy and not fit for duty...it worked.

When Limbaugh referenced 'phony soldiers,' he specifically cited the case of Jesse MacBeth. Liberal critics have laughably complained that he cited only one case while using the plural. Fact is, there are dozens and dozens on the public record, and it seems highly likely that there are thousands nationwide.
Have you seen the ABC News report that cites several of them? This is the worst type of slanted political reporting. Please post the full transcript like you have Reid's letter.

Yo Jerry White, Springfield, Il. Have you had a chance to watch Ken Burns 7-part series on "The War"? I know you said that PBS was a "leftist" organization and undeserving of public funding, but you ought to check it out. Who knows, the "drive-by-media" might actually fulfill your lust for blood and guts. (Warning! The portrayals are a little bit different then than the John Wayne movies you're used to.

To Mr. Limbaugh!
My good and honorable sir!
You, sir, are a pimple upon the buttocks of our good nation. You are but a whiff of flatulence in our otherwise good and righteous environs. The terms 'swell', 'dandy', 'nar-do-well', do no justice to your nature and inner self. If, indeed, the human form were to go through a strange metamorphosis and embody the appearance of, say, some other appropriate form in your behalf you would take on the appearance of a ☁!!
You, good gentleman, are a twit and a tw@t. You, kind nobleman, are the true example of a 'good German'!
Were it within my power to assess, quantify, and execute a proper punishment, good and true, for your damage to our fair republic, ari waves, and overall good nature in general, it would involve a hare, a porcupine, a baseball bat and Larry Craig!
Cease and desist, my good man!
A fart upon all your progeny!
Have a profitable and safe day.

The vitriol and character assassination! What inner infirmaties can his screed sooth? What's wrong with people who feed on such stuff? Can anyone really see a posibility of rationl discourse with someone like him? Although I am not a conservative, I can see real concern, anguish, fear, patriotism and purpose in my conservative countrymen. Did someone say "Rush is the same as moveon.org" ??? Someone has listenning and reading comprehension issues -if they ever read or listened in the first place. Rush ought to sue Ried and Harkin for slander. Truth is an absolute defense against slander and Rush has the truth on his side. It would make for an incredibly worth-while spectacle, considering how many people actually beleive reid is right, but that the issue is really about punditry. The issue is slander -not Rush's slander of any troops but Reid's slander of Rush and his myopic acceptance of anything that comes out of "media matters." Rush is right. Again.

But they can't step into the real war zone because they're
On Rush
But the world does care that the college Republicans won't fight them over there (Iraq)
But these young chickenhawks don't care because
They're on Rush
Give it to me
The Neocons are all on Rush yeah
Never getting enough of sending other people over there (Iraq)

In Iraq
And they cause such a fuss cause
There's no one but Rush they can trust
And the best of their days
Will all vanish into haze because they're
On Rush
And they wish they could quit cause
They're really sick of being scared but they're

Media Matters lies? Media Matters spins? Media Matters distorts? Mark Silva, who I'm sure never listens to Rush Limbaugh's show (after all aren't the White House press briefings normally around Noon and isn't Mark writing and following on his stories then too, as well as looking after the Swamp?), takes Media Matter's nonsense to heart because after all isn't Mark Silva and Media Matters on the same page?
For anyone who listens to Rush on a regular basis, you will never hear anything but praise from him toward the troops. The phony soldiers he speaks of are just that -- phony.
Martha may have been a decorated soldier at one time (and God bless him for that), but he also condemned soldiers as guilty before knowing the facts. Harry Reid also declared the war lost, has continually undermined and undercut the troops. Reid, Durbin, Kennedy, Schumer, Clinton, et al are embarrassments to their states, to this country, to the troops and to mankind in general. The worst is what they are.

I have to laugh when the right wing can spend time debating the Moveon.org ad but wants to say this is a waste of time when some right wing idiot is called out for his comments!! Nothing but hipocrasy as usual from the Right (wrong)
I forgot Rush was even on the air anymore !! Who is listening to this guy?

What are people so upset about. We all know Rush is an overwieght, draft dodging chicken hawk, who, with his drug damanged mind is liable to say dumb things. His band of sheeple will always come to defned him once he blurts out his usual brand of narrow-minded rhetoric. I guess water seeks its own level. All his devoted fellow stay at homes (who never could find where the local recruiting station is) will blindly follow.
You ditto-heads would be hilarious if you were not so dangerous to mankind in general.

Rush insulted Michael J Fox, accusing him of faking his illness, how over the top. He called rocker Jerrry Garcia "another dead doper", before he himself was busted.
He called troops against the war 'Phony" then he manipulated his transcripts
to make it appear as though he was talking about
Jesse MacBeth who served more military and jail time than Rush. his followers gladly call themselves ditto heads in honor of believing every lie he spews.

For the record - DEMBHOLES FACT 1) JESSE MacBETH was a 'phoney soldier' for all of 44 days FACT2) JESSE MacBETH never served in IRAQ or AFGHANISTAN FACT3) JESSE MacBETH never received 'the bronze star' he claimed he had FACT4) JESSE MacBETH 'wrote/printed' tales of 'atrocities' he witnessed even though he never 'served' FACT5) JESSE MacBETH'S 'stories' were never checked/verified by the 'NATIONAL MEDIA' - ergo RUSH LIMBAUGH was quite correct in designating him as one of the 'phoney soldiers' that SENATURDS REID, HARKIN, and DURBIN would rather believe than GENERAL PETRAEUS!!! NOW SHUT YOUR 'GOBS' AND GO BACK TO YOUR SOCIALISTA BUDDIES AT MOVEON.ORG + MEDIAMATTERS.COM!!!
Posted by: Zyskandar A Jaimot | October 1, 2007 9:45 PM
Rude, you really shouldn't get your information from left wing blogs cause Rush never said Michael J Fox was faking his illness. He did question whether Fox took his medication to keep his Parkinson's under control or not before his Congressional testimony. And you know what? Fox admitted he didn't take his medication that day.
Regardless, Michael J Fox is my age. I watched him on Family Ties, Back to the Future movies, Spin City and other things, and it pains me every time to see him. Parkison's is a horrible, terrible disease and my thoughts and prayers go out to Michael J Fox and his family.
IN regard to Limbaugh and most things in life, Media Matters, the mainstream media and left wing blogs lie, distort and twist. Basically the Left is pure evil.

If Mark Silva was honest and did some investigating rather than take his directions from media matters and letting his own pre-conceived beliefs influence his journalism, he would find out the phony soldiers Limbaugh is referring to. Also, Mark are you going to smear ABC News and Brian Ross for their reporting on phony soldiers as well?
Anyway, these are the phony soldiers Limbaugh is talking about:
September 21, 2007
NORTHWEST CRACKDOWN ON FAKE VETERANS IN “OPERATION STOLEN VALOR”
Phony Vets Scam more than $1.4 Million and Damage Image of Honorable Veterans
U.S. Attorney Jeffrey C. Sullivan today announced some of the results of “Operation Stolen Valor,” a year long effort to investigate and prosecute those who lie about their military service for financial gain or other reasons. Sullivan and Doug Carver, Special Agent in Charge of the Veteran’s Affairs Office of Inspector General detailed eight prosecutions in the Veteran’s Affairs Northwest Region in 2007.
“As a Vietnam Veteran, and the father of a decorated Army officer currently serving, I feel very keenly the damage done by Jesse Macbeth and these other fakes,” said Jeff Sullivan, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington. “Macbeth’s lies fueled hostility to our servicemen in Iraq and here at home. Those who falsely claim medals for heroism, cheapen the recognition of our true war heroes.”
“The ‘phony war hero phenomenon’ plagues the American landscape and tarnishes the service of thousands of veterans who have served honorably. It strangles VA resources from providing critical care and benefits to deserving veterans returning from war,” said Douglas J. Carver, Special Agent in Charge of the VA Office of Inspector General, Western Field Office. “It all boils downs to this: these phonies submit claims to the VA for compensation and medical benefits they are not entitled to, and it takes away valuable resources from those who are entitled.”
In a dozen cases under investigation in the northwest, the fraud totals more than $1.4 million. Eight of the cases have been publicly filed and are in various stages of being adjudicated:
*Jesse Macbeth, 23, Tacoma, Washington, sentenced today in connection with his fraudulent claims of military service. Macbeth sought medical benefits claiming to suffer from PTSD related to service in Iraq and Afghanistan, in fact, Macbeth was discharged from the Army about a month after he joined. Macbeth never traveled outside the U.S. with the Army. Macbeth duped reporters, claiming to be a decorated Army Ranger who had witnessed war crimes.
*Reggie Buddle, 60, Puyallup, Washington, sentenced July 30, 2007, for Unlawful Wearing of United States Military Medals and Decorations. Buddle posed as a decorated Marine Corps Chaplin presiding over weddings, funerals and baptisms. Buddle was sentenced to 500 hours of community service and two years of probation.
*Larry Lewis Porter, 52, Seattle, Washington, sentenced April 19, 2007, for Mail Fraud in connection with a scheme to fraudulently obtain disability benefits from Veterans Affairs. Porter was sentenced to 37 months in prison. Porter claimed he suffered PTSD from experiences in the Navy, however investigation revealed the events were fabricated. Loss Amount: $134,000
*Roy J. Scott, 71, of Port Angeles, Washington pleaded guilty August 31, 2007, to Use of an Altered Military Discharge Certificate to obtain VA Compensation and Medical Benefits, and Unlawful Wearing of United States Military Medals and Decorations. Scott claimed he had served in the Marine Corps in Korea, that he was wounded in combat in Korea, and that he had been awarded the Korea Defense Medal, Korea Star Medal, and a Purple Heart (due to alleged gun shot wounds sustained during combat in Korea). Scott claimed to be honorably discharged, when in fact, he never earned those medals, never served in Korea or any foreign country and was Court-Martialed out of the Marine Corps. Loss Amount: $21,960.
*Merrick K. Hersey, 64, of Vancouver, Washington, Hersey was indicted August 1, 2007, for Use and Possession of Forged or Altered Military Discharge Certificate and False Statements. Hersey is a fugitive and is being sought by law enforcement. Hersey applied for benefits claiming he served in 1967-68, was awarded two Purple Hearts (for wounds sustained in active combat) and the Bronze Star (awarded for heroism). Hersey claimed he suffered from PTSD and sought benefits. In fact, Hersey never served in the Marine Corps at all. Loss Amount: $2,688.
*Michael D. Heit, 58, of Harrington, Washington, pleaded guilty yesterday (September 20, 2007) in U.S. District Court in Spokane, Washington to Use and Possession of a Forged or Altered Military Discharge Certificate and False Claims of Military Medals. Heit claimed he was a Vietnam vet who was held as a prisoner of war. He claimed to have been awarded three Purple Heart medals and the Silver Star. None of that is true. Loss Amount: $3,500
*Elvin J. Swisher, 70, of Idaho, is charged with Wearing Unauthorized Military Medals, False Statements, and Theft of Government Funds. Swisher falsely claimed he was wounded in Korea and that he had been awarded the Silver Star, Purple Heart and other medals for valor. Loss Amount: $95,000.
*Carlos Riosvalle, 83, of Portland, Oregon, was sentenced April 9, 2007, in Multnomah County for multiple counts of Theft by Deception. Riosvalle collected benefits claiming to have been “shot down while a pilot in World War II.” In fact Riosvalle never served in the armed forces. Loss Amount: $22,818.
These cases were all investigated by the Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General VA-OIG. The VA Office of the Inspector General operates a HOTLINE for the public to confidentially and safely report crimes like “Stolen Valor” involving VA or its programs. Call 800-488-8244, or fax to 202-565-7936, or e-mail to vaoighotline@va.gov, or write to VA OIG HOTLINE, PO Box 50410, Washington, DC 20091-0410.
The cases filed in the Western District of Washington are being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ronald J. Friedman. For additional information please contact Emily Langlie, Public Affairs Officer for the United States Attorney’s Office, at (206) 553-4110.
