Savvy Internet surfers know that when a good chuckle is needed to brighten a ho-hum day, one reliable source is "Chuck Norris Facts." As Wikipedia puts it, in an understatement, the site documents "fictional, often absurdly heroic feats and characteristics" about the martial arts master who parlayed that skill into starring parts in movies and on television.*
The political world now has learned an actual Chuck Norris fact: His favorite in the fight for the Republican presidential nomination is Mike Huckabee, the one-time longshot who seems to be gaining momentum with each passing week. (The latest boost to Huckabee's candidacy came this weekend at the Values Voter Summit.)
Norris revealed his pick and explained it in a lengthy column posted late Sunday on WorldNetDaily, a conservative website for which he regularly writes. After giving quick nods to the other major contenders in the GOP race, he describes Huckabee as "the only one who has all of the characteristics to lead America forward into the future."
Norris, an evangelical Christian who now spends much of his time and money promoting his religious values, is effusive in his praise of Huckabee. So much so that we imagine the former governor of Arkansas will do all he can to make the endorsement required reading in Iowa, where social conservatives hold great sway within the Republican Party.
For the uninitiated (which, frankly, we were until a few minutes ago), here's a sampling from "Chuck Norris Facts:''
--
There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of creatures Chuck Norris has allowed to live.
-- Chuck Norris doesn't read books. He stares them down until he gets the information he wants.
-- When Chuck Norris does a pushup, he isn't lifting himself up, he's pushing the Earth down.

Great. The Trib is reduced to quoting from World Nut Daily.
Any chance we might hear about Hucklberry's latest gaffe where he asserted that 'most of the signers of the Constitution' were clergymen? Unfortunately, facts once again have a liberal bias. The actual truth is that only 1 signer of the Declaration was a clergyman.

The media, including the conservative media, is determined to keep Gov. Huckabee from achieving the rank of "top tier" candidate no matter what inroads he makes as witnessed by the recent Fox News debates. Huckabee was not asked a question until 30-minutes into the debate. Maybe the voters can determine themselves who they want to be "top tier". For the first time in my 45-years as a voter, I have given money to a presidential candidate (and will give more of my next paycheck)--Mike Huckabee. GO HUCK!!

I can't believe this is a public announcement. I seriously thought it was a joke when I first heard about it. Who cares what this guy thinks? Shame on us if Chuck Norris' opinion has any sort of political impact. Huckabee is going to lose anyways.

Chuck was a fine martial artists, survived Hollywood, and is a nice guy, but...
How and why that might make his political opinions of any more value than my neighbor's is beyond me.
The cult of celebrity is for suckers, even when the celebrity is a decent guy.

Isn't Hollywood suppose to be filled with nothing but liberal, commie, wackos? Are conservatives, (gasp!) wrong again?

Shoulda coulda woulda but didn't do that. Look Obama you are ever so conveniently absent from these votes. Is it because you are too slow to make up your mind or you want the extra room to see how the public reacts to the whole Iran issue so you can sway with the wind or maybe it helps to let others vote first and wait so you can get a chance to stake out the competition. If you've got the right idea you strongly stand by don't feel it's too good for Washington and keep it all to yourself. Just because WH might be crooked doesn't mean we can scrap the whole idea ala Guiliani "try to spend as much time away from Washington because there is something in the air there." We don't want it to read campaigning right under your work experience in Washington.

Maybe they should move in together and continue to devolve in obscurity.

Roman, Hollywood is only filled with liberal commie wackos when they disagree with the Republican Religion. When Hollywood actors come out in FAVOR of a Republican, they're great, talented artists and fine humanitarians.

Op109,
As you know, the old 'Hollywood '_______' (fill in the blank) posit has been used by the right wing in America for a long time.
In the past many other words besides liberal were used;
1. Jews
2. Communists
3. Foreigners
4. Atheists
Once they lose their cache' a new label is selected.
What's up next?
Hollywood;
1. Mechanics
2. Unionists
3. NeoCons
4. RINOS
5. Drywallers
6. Air Traffic Controllers

1.) Just FYI, "Savvy Internet surfers" don't go to chucknorrisfacts.com for chuckles.
2.) Anyone who says "Savvy Internet surfers" ought to be savvy enough themselves to at least put in the stupid link they're talking about.
3.) Anyone who says "Savvy Internet surfers" should not quote Wikipedia entries to back up their use of the word "savvy."
It's embarrassing to read newspapers who decide to check out this whole online thing 10-12 years too late.

Gee, has Paris Hilton made an endorsement yet?
Posted by: itsmike | October 23, 2007 5:58 PM
I don't let celebrity endorsements influence my decision. I am already a Huckabee supporter.
I love it how people easily dismiss his forward momentum.

I am a Huckabee supporter and just sent my first contribution of this campaign season. He is an authentic convservative and deserves the support of the GOP faithful. The Drive-By Media (or Conservative Media for that matter) should not be allowed to dictate to we the people who the Top Tier candidates are or not. Mike Huckabee will make a fine President.

Once his poll number and fund raising start to take off (thanks to grassroots support and not the annointment of big business and corporate media) many more celebs will jump on the Huck-wagon.
Remember, these superstars only get one vote - just like the regular, working joes like us.
