Attention dog lovers, especially aficionados of the maligned aggregate of breeds collectively known as pit bulls.
The court-appointed special master overseeing the fate of roughly 49 of the former denizens of Bad Newz Kennels has just issued an application for animal rescue organizations to adopt one or more of the canines.
Dogs have been divided into 4 categories depending on level of aggression and adoption is open to non-profit animal rescue operations with a minimum of three years experience handling animals, according to guidelines established by Rebecca Huss, the Valparaiso University law prof serving as special master.
At least some of the dogs may end up with better accomodations than Vick, the suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback. Vick has pleaded guilty with three others to federal charges connected to running a dog-fighting ring and awaits sentencing.
Vick also faces state charges in Virginia.

I'm glad the dogs are going to get homes, but I have to ask if this post strayed from the Unleashed blog. Or did the editor read the word "dog-fighting" and automatically stick it in the Swamp?

How about Vick having to pay for taking care of the dogs that won't be adopted out? That sounds fair.

These dogs will never be adopted. Unless you like to fight dogs, what person would want an animal around them that could and would eat their kids?
This is what makes this situation so despicable...Idiots like Vick own these innocent dogs that can't be raised with any sort of normal family.

If any of the dogs are put down, then all those involved should have the same fate. How about starting a fund for the up keep of the dogs to save them from death. I will give all that Icn.

If you read the application, there will be money for the care of the dogs from Vick for all of the dogs, including the ones who won't be adopted out; if it ever gets through the legal system. Not all of the dogs will be adopted out, it sounds like half of them will be staying in rescues until they die or can be rehabilitated. In the application it sounds like only 18 of them are adoptable.

it is rediculios that anyone would ruin the life of these precious dogs, now that they have been raised to fight and punished for doing bad they are going to live their whole lives with fight in them and they wont be safe around anyone.

For those of you who think that there is no hope for adoption, you are all dead wrong. For gods sake they are not going to "eat your kids" Please get a grip.
I have a pitbull who was used in dogfighting and he is wonderful and hasn't eaten any kids! Some of these dogs may not of even wanted to fight! They are able to be rehabilitated and I would be proud to own one and help them through the rest of their lives, if I didn't live in crappy BSL country. These dogs HAVE NOT BEEN RUINED!!!!!

I disagree with weinerdog43's comment. I think these dogs do have a chance. Anyone who has or does own a Pit Bull will understand how much they love and how much they want to be loved. My Pit is extremely sweet and loyal and would protect me from anything. She makes my life.
I fully believe that any animal, no matter how extreme, can be rehabilitated. These animals just want to be loved. They are not going to attack the person that loves them and cares for them and any Pit I have seen are wonderful with children. People have the wrong idea about these dogs and it is so irritating. Educate yourself and own a Pit Bull before you talk them down as you do. Hopefully one of these days if our legislators will actually listen and reason, we will be able to put an end to BSL.
I would be proud to own one of these Pit Bulls. I will never own a different breed. When the dogs are available for adoption from the rescue centers I will definitely try to adopt one.

You know, they werent all pit bulls! There were rotweillers, and beagles that were raised in the dark and were fed red meat with gun powder on top it is horrible

It takes asouless person to fight or hurt animals. Michael Vick should have gotten a longer sentence than he did. I hope his time in jail is horendous!!!!
