The fifth Republican presidential debate is about to start in Durham, N.H. and is being carried on Fox News Channel.
Of course, the big Republican news tonight isn't the debate but the official entry, at long last, of Fred Thompson, the actor-senator, in the race. He won't be at the debate. Instead, he'll be making an appearance on the Jay Leno show -- where he confirmed in this evening's taping that indeed he is running for president.
Feel free to use this post to express your reactions to the debate. Now, sit back and enjoy the show.

SCORECARD:
----------
Rudy Julieannie - D- same old Republican scare tactics, be scared be VERY Scared 9/11 9/11, Rudy should dominate the Republican crossdresser voters.
John McFinished - F at least the old man has stuck to his pro-Iraq war stance. This old dude needs to get a full medical checkup and then retire fulltime to the Arizona desert.
Willard Romney - D- probably the best varmint hunter in the GOP field and it's honorable that his son's have signed up to serve their country.....in Iowa
Mike Huckabee - D+ this guy doesn't believe in science, enough said
Sam Brokeback - D- ditto (see above)
Ron Paul- A the only Republican with functioning brain cells and an understanding of what a clusterfreak that Iraq continues to be
Tom Tancredo- F this guy should even scare the Wingnuts
Grandpa Fred Thompson- NA - what can you say?, Fredrick of Hollywood is to afraid to show up for a debate on Fixed "News" Channel...what a wimp. He must be out driving around Hollywood in his rented red pickem' up truck.
Duncan Hunter - Who?
Jim Gilmore - Alien or Human?

The consensus among Republicans in Frank Luntz's focus group and at NRO (http://corner.nationalreview.com/) is that McCain did well.
And "John E's" dubious grasp on reality is shown by the fact that his preprogrammed remarks diss Jim Gilmore's debate performance, when Gilmore wasn't at the debate and dropped out of the race long ago. Time to change your meds, John.

I watched the Republican debate last night and the comments from the focus group afterwards.
To a person they were dissatasfied with what they heard. But the best moment was when that deputy sherriff took Willard Romney to task for comparing Willard's five sons serving as similar to the sherriff's son who will soon be coming back from two tours in Iraq. You could tell it really got to Willard.

Ron Paul won.....I want all the rights that were stolen by this administration BACK.
Ron Paul is the only one that will do that!

Bruce, John E is permanently mentally deranged. No meds or treatment of any kind will ever do him any good. Only permanent incarceration at a mental facility is the answer.
These debates are really ridiculous, whether Republican or Demoncrat. There were good moments, good comments, but these debates never really are about issues but the ability to make statements.
Guiliani and McCain came off the best. Ron Paul, God bless him, but while passionate on his beliefs he is off-base on many, not all, but many things. On some of his statements I can see where he is coming from, but on others he is living in some alternate world.

No other candidate has SACRIFICED more for this country than John McCain. As a veteran there is no way in the world I could ever vote for a Commander in Chief that never spent a day in uniform. McCain sets the example for all to follow.

John E- I guess that makes the other debates on the other networks the Democratic Party Owned and Operated Fixed "News" Channels. And as for the YouTube debate on CNN, someone still picked and screened the questions to target the candidates. The puff questions went to their favorite.
