June 29 - July 2. BAPTISTS — The American Baptist Churches USA holds its biennial convention.

June 24 - 29. APPRENTICESHIP — The Department of Employment Services holds the 63rd annual Eastern Seaboard Apprenticeship Conference, bringing together about 400 businesses, trade unions, and industry and government representatives.

June 25 - 29. SUBMARINE RACES — The U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center hosts the 9th International Submarine Races, an engineering design event featuring 26 college and high school teams from USA, Canada, Mexico, and Great Britain.

June 27 - July 1. FOLKLIFE FESTIVAL — The Smithsonian Institution holds the first session of the 41st annual Folklife Festival.

10 a.m. WOUNDED WARRIORS — The President’s Commission on Care for America’s Returning Wounded Warriors will hold its seventh public meeting. The commissioners will receive an overview of congressional legislation relating to care for returning wounded veterans and hear reports from Commission Subcommittees. This will be the last public meeting of the Commission before it discusses its recommendations at a public meeting to be held in July.

8 a.m. HEALTH CARE — The National Assembly on School-Based Health Care holds a rally as part of its Advocacy Day activities. Keynote speaker - Marian Wright Edelman, Children’s Defense Fund.

8:30 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. BIOETHICS-NANOTECHNOLOGY — The President's Council on Bioethics holds a meeting on nanotechnology. Dr. Andrew Maynard, chief science advisor for the Wilson Centers Project on Emerging Nanotechnologies, and Dr. Mauro Ferrari, chairman, Department of Biomedical Engineering, University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, will discuss nanotechnology and nanomedicine. They will present the possibilities that these technologies present, as well as potenial risks and ethical implications.

9 a.m. MARROW DONOR — The National Marrow Donor Program holds its 2nd congressional recruitment campaign.

9 a.m. SPACE PROGRAM-FRANCE — The Center for Strategic and International Studies holds a discussion with French Embassy Space Attache Jewan-Jacques Tortora on the future of the French space program.

9 a.m. VENEZUELA — A panel of Venezuelan writers and reporters discussess freedom of expression and student rebellion in Venezuela at a National Press Club Morning Newsmaker event.

10 a.m. POLLINATORS — The Postal Service issues a 41-cent Pollination stamp, as part of National Pollinator Week.

10 a.m. PURPLE HEARTS — Sixteen wounded military personnel receive Purple Hearts. They are from Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Michigan, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

12 p.m. DIVERSITY — The Leadership Conference on Civil Rights and the Colorado Common Cause holds a town hall meeting with Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, LCCR President Wade Henderson, FCC Commissioner Michael Copps, others, on the importance of diversity in the media.

2:30 p.m. MEDIA VIOLENCE — The American Civil Liberties Union holds a briefing on violence in the media.
