The Gallup polls on Congress ratings with voters are starting to sound like a broken record. Or broken compact disc. The polling organization says Congress's approval rating has fallen to 24 percent in June, the lowest since Democrats took control in January, and an uncommonly low number. That's five percentage points down from May.
PRINCETON, NJ -- The honeymoon phase is over for the new Congress, as the public's ratings of Congress are down again this month. The latest congressional job approval rating (24%) is the lowest for the institution since Democrats took control of both houses in January, and is far below the 37% registered in February. The decline has been most evident among Democrats, whose ratings of Congress now match those of Republicans. Congressional job approval ratings are typically not positive, but ratings as low as the current one are uncommon. The poll also finds that only about one in four Americans say they are satisfied with the way things are going in this country, little changed since last month but still at its lowest point in over a decade.
Congressional Democrats are essentially now bobbing around the lows that congressional Republicans experienced before voters kicked them out of the best offices on Capitol Hill and sent them into the minority.
Also, Democratic respondents to the June survey gave Congress ratings similar to what Republicans did.
In its analysis, Galllup says:
It's likely that displeasure with Congress is part of a more general frustration with conditions in the United States that is also evident in ratings of George W. Bush and the economy.
Curiously, Gallup's analysis doesn't mention the Iraq Effect on Congress's approval ratings. Many congressional analysts think the failure of Democrats to significantly change the course of U.S. policy there has greatly disappointed many voters.

It's the Conservative press.

Congress's dismal approval ratings can be traced to its abject failure in forcing the Cheney (I mean Bush) administration to get US combat troops our of Iraq. This was the linchpin issue that vaulted the Democrats into a majority in the 2006 elections. When Congress stands up to Cheney/Rove/Bush and gets the troops home, you'll see Congress's approval ratings rebound significantly.

The message to both Mr. Bush and Congress is STOP THE WAR.

The immigration bill certainly is not helping Congress. The liberalpress tells us that the bill has broad public support but Pelosi says she will not bring it up in the House unless she has a significant amount of cover from Republicans. That shows you how popular she really thinks it is. She (wisely) does not want it to be called a Democratic bill.

I couldn't resist chiming in as this has been my favorite Swamp topic. For months I've been telling everyone that the Democrats really haven't lived up to their campaign rhetoric. It looks like people have finally noticed.

Buster,
You were right the first time.
The most recent best ventriliquism act I've seen was when Dubya was giving a speech and Darth's pacemaker was acting up while he was drinking a glass of Kool-Aid.
The time before that was circa 1986 when Ronbo was talking and Nancy was...
Well, you know.

Doesn't matter if they're Republicans or Democrats; they're all as useless as UN delegates.
People-wise up-it's time for a big change and you can do your part at the next election.

This will change in 08 when the public can vote out the remaining Republic Party members who have continued to support this stupid civil war in Iraq and W.'s partner in crime, Gonzo.

The only person to get it right is S Sherman, which is not surprising since he is a conservative. He's also the only one with a legit point, though Roger largely has it right too.
Rasmussen poll says better than 70 percent against the Kennedy-McCain Illegal Immigration Bill. The breakdown is this: 84 percent Republicans against it, 69 percent independents against it and 55 percent of Democrats are against it!
That is why both Bush and Congress's numbers have gone done in recent weeks.
But I do want the Democrats in Congress to continue pulling their shenanigans and investigations. The public will vote most of them out in 08.

Little Johnny StreamwoodIL,
You and Brucebot were also two of the GOP robots who were on here spitting out poll numbers and data saying that not only would the Republic Party win in 06 but they would also increase their majority.....and we all know how that fantasy turned out, hahaha hoho snort snort hah!

With Bush in the white house, congress will never be able to do anything. We need to eliminate the problem from the top.

"Many congressional analysts think the failure of Democrats to significantly change the course of U.S. policy there has greatly disappointed many voters."
Yup, it has just shown the public that when it comes to government its either all talk and no action, or no talk and all action. Were never on the same page , and the pages were on put media fueled party line rhetoric before facts.

This is a confusing and misleading poll. Congress has been controlled by the Democrats for 6 months and has such a low rating, despite trying to get some key legislation passed such as stem cell research, hike in minimum wage, legislation to require negotiated drug prices, etc. Most importantantly the Congress began to oversee a runaway executive branch. So how do the Republican controlled congress have higher poll ratings for the 6 years that they did nothing? Maybe the people responding to the poll prefer a congress that is mute and interested only in Terri Schivo cases, and rubber stamping the President wishes.

I'm disappointed but not surprised Congress hasn't been able to do much. They don't have a veto-proof majority and the Republics and Bush have done nothing except dig in their heels and not allow anything to get done.

Proof that the American people want our troops out of that hellish democracy commonly know as Iraq. The Wreck would be a better name. Better still Bush's folly. Congress should cut of all funding that escalates this debacle. Bring em home. Neo-cons are traitors!!!
