Our own Naftali Bendavid, deputy chief of the Chicago Tribune’s Washington bureau, has a new book “The Thumpin’, that chronicles Rep. Rahm Emanuel and the Democrats’ takeover of Congress. The title comes from President Bush’s characterization of the defeat Republicans experienced at Democratic hands last fall.

The book grew out of a post-election article Naftali wrote based on his exclusive year-long access to Emanuel, the peppery and profane Chicago-area congressman and former Clinton White House political operative who ran the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s successful efforts in 2006.

To mark the book’s publication by Doubleday and its going on sale Tuesday, Naftali has agreed to blog tomorrow about Emanuel, the book, and the House Democrats.

So even though we know Swampers haven’t had a chance to read the book, don’t let that stop you from weighing in on Emanuel or joining our “Ask Naftali” session. Look for his posting early tomorrow and send in those questions or comments.

Frank, you know lack of knowledge or facts has never stopped people from commenting in the Swamp before.

Tony, "lack of knowledge or facts" has never stopped Frank James from attacking Republicans before.

But since you say you desire knowledge and facts, try asking Naftali Bendavid (or Frank James) this question: "As evidence of your own political biases, who did you vote for for president in 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2004?" We both know the answer, though I suspect he'll evade answering.

Bruce,
Would ask the same ridiculous question of Brit Hume, Sean Hannity, and the rest of the hyper-partisan, right-wing propagandists... er, press corp ?

Only hardcore Wingnuts like Bruce could not have seen the Republicans "thumpin" coming in 06 and GOP robots like him and JohnnyD Squarepants still don't see the next "thumpin" coming their way in 08.

Heckova job Prez Decider!

Rep. Rahm Emanuel and the Democrats’ takeover of Congress has only begun. It will continue in 08 & beyond. Bush is only speeding the demise of republicans.

Bruce-

You first.

If you voted Republican all 4 times, should we disregard all your comments as biased?

As for myself:

Clinton, Dole, Bush, Kerry.

I'll be very curious to see if Mr. Bendavid discusses Rahm's taking credit for the 2006 election, despite overwhelming evidence that it was Howard Dean's 50 state strategy that delivered.

Good luck Mr. Bendavid. Here's hoping it's a good read. You've got some interesting characters to work with.

Funny how a 'lack of knowledge or facts' hasn't seemed to have gotten in your way either Bruce.

How about your voting record Bruce? Bet you won't share that with us either. Funny.

"J", "Tony", I love it when you make the persoanl attacks against me. Shows that you know your arguments won't hold water.

I think readers deserve to know about the beliefs and biases of the reporters feeding them political news. Don't you agree that Trib readers should be informed, "Tony"? "J"? Or are you in favor of reporters keeping their readers in the dark?

Personal attacks, Bruce? How did I attack you in any way? I merely asked you the exact same question you asked about the author, and I answered it myself, something you are apparently unwilling to do.

Do you 'know' what Frank James' voting record actually is Bruce? In what way is my pointing out your lack of facts a personal attack? In what way is my argument failing to hold water Bruce?

I do agree, the Trib readers should be informed but because you don't agree with what is written or how it is written doesn't make it biased. Maybe it's more telling that you view anything you don't personally agree with must be biased & that all bias must lean to the left. Personally I find it very telling that you feel you need to be informed as to who it was who appointed a federal judge before you pass judgment on their judgments.

For the record: Reagan, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Clinton, Gore, None of the Above.

I don't think it matters who FJ voted for.

If his has any bias it will come through as it usually does.

In this case, I say....let it go Bruce.

Tony, You voted for Dole and Bush in 00 ?

I take back 1/2 of what I've said about you.

Only 1/2

Personally I care more about the accuracy of news articles than I do about the author's political views. What is more important to you Bruce? How come you never challenge facts? You only challenge the political leanings of the authors and those quoted.

Yep JD, I did. I regret the Bush vote every single day. Biggest political mistake I ever made.

As usual when its time to put up or shut up, Bruce is nowhere to be seen. Typical.

Hey JD, John E is spreading a rumor about that you are really just the new persona of my old friend John D. Is there any truth behind that rumor?

Nope.
John E.'s simple mind can't get across the fact that John D. is 4 letters a space another letter and a period.

My "name" is two letters only.

It's really easy to figure out if you apply yourself.

Your first mistake was to read something John E. posts.

Thanks, JD. I didn't think it was really true as you don't sound deranged like John D but you never know around here. Some people around here change their names on an almost daily basis. Rumor has it John E posts under multiple names each day...
