Sen. Barack Obama delivered the Democratic Hispanic Radio Address today. While the Illinois Democrat only speaks limited Spanish, he recorded the message in the language after a tedious taping process.
The topic: ethics reform
“Necesitamos un compromiso serio con las reformas," Obama said. "Es hora de limpiar Washington de una vez por todas."
[“We need a serious commitment to reform This is a time to clean up Washington once and for all.]
The Senate Democratic communications office, eager to announce that Obama was delivering the weekly radio address, translated the message in an email to reporters.
Radio addresses are, indeed, a throwback to another era of communication. Few stations even broadcast the weekly presidential address that is released every Saturday morning, let alone the response by Democrats.
Perhaps it should have a new name. The weekly MP3 address, however, might not have the same ring to it.
But if you're curious to hear Obama's Spanish, try this link:

It's been at least a couple days since the last "Swamp" Obama posting. Informed observors were worried Jeff Zeleny was sick or something and thus unable to do his usual press agentry. Obama's gotten more free publicity on the "Swamp" than all the rest of this state's Congressmen and Senators combined.

Let's put this to the smell test Bruce.
Would you be complaining so bitterly about what "Swamp" reporters were doing with their time if all their stories were favorable to Bush and other Republicans?
Do you prefer the "fair and balanced" approach to news and commentary as seen on FOX "News?" I'm sure you don't send a daily e-mail to them complaining about their editorial policy.
I think I could reasonably predict your answers to these questions.
Viva Obama!

Wish he would do this first.
" Obama said. "Es hora de limpiar Illinois de una vez por todas."

Bruce, apparently you don't live in Illinois. He's one of our Senators. Of course he's going to be covered by a blog that tracks what's going on in DC of interest to Illinoyances.

Well...he is better than Dick Durbin.
Obama will be judged once he actually has to DO something. Being a well spoken tall black er...white man can only get you to the top in Chicago. The rest of the country will actually judge him BY THE CONTENT OF HIS CHARACTER.

The longstanding critique of The Swamp's dedication to reporting the daily exploits of Illinois' junior senator have little to do with the senator's representation of Illinois. It is instead born from the dedication of many in the Illinois and national media to attempt to elevate Obama, a legislator without any significant accomplishments to his name, from Ill. State Senator from Chicago to serious U.S. presidential contender in less than four years -- and still without any significant accomplishments, beyond delivering a platitude-filled keynote address to the 2004 Democrat national convention. Perhaps if the Swamp granted its readers similar access to the doings of the state's other legislators (and there are many choices, no?), the criticism would be less valid. But as it stands now, that is not the case.
