Water cooler legislation part deux

Continuing our earlier post about water-cooler legislation, several other bills have been suggested as contenders.

The first includes a house bill with 41 co-sponsors outlawing the force-feeding of birds that is of great import to animal rights advocates and relates to how foie gras is made. The second set of bills seek to make Smith Island Cake into the state dessert, "Walking" the state exercise and soybean the state crop.

House Bill 1137 - Prohibiting a person from force-feeding birds or hiring another person to engage in force-feeding birds to produce foie gras; prohibiting a person from selling, transporting, or offering for sale any product that is the result of force-feeding birds to produce foie gras; prohibiting specified food service establishments from serving products that are the result of force-feeding birds; and providing for specified penalties for specified violations.

House Bill 315 - Designating Smith Island cake as the State dessert.

House Bill 1267 - Designating the soybean as the State crop.

House Bill 1311
- Designating walking as the State exercise.
