I'd like to thank the Academy ...

One of my tipsters passed word that I am number 8 on the City Paper’s list of the top 10 entertaining Baltimore tweeps for 2010—this despite the deplorable figure I cut in both swimsuit and evening gown.

In case you would like to see the other contestants, one of whom is the amiable Richard Gorelick, the custodian as well of the dining@large blog:

Hey John,

Hmmm..... I'm just worried that those suggestive B&W pics of you in your 'birthday-suit' auditioning for that early Playgirl 'spread' of "Big City Newspaper Journalists Exposed" might show up on say Wikileaks, and your 8th-place ranking in "the top 10 entertaining Baltimore tweeps of 2010" could be summarily yanked from right under your very nose. Bummer.

Remember the sad fate of former Miss America, Vanessa Williams, back in 1983, who admittedly looked very hot in both the swimsuit and evening gown segments of the nation-wide beauty fest, yet later had to relinquish her crown, as a bevy of earlier B&W nude 'art photos' of her emerged, allegedly sullying the requisite squeaky-clean public image of a 'proper' reigning Miss America.

Rather than putting the kibosh on a future career as a celebrated performer (chanteuse, actress, glamor spokesperson), the Miss America dustup proved to be an unwitting positive PR plus, kind of putting Miss Williams on the popular media map, above the celeb-radar, so to speak. The rest, as they say, is history. Can you say "Ugly Betty", or "Desperate Housewives" boys & girls?

All joshing aside, John, congrats on your "tweeps" accolades. Well deserved, although I'm not really familiar w/ any of your fellow "tweep" honorees, being largely a West coast local media junky (mostly NPR affiliates) out here in La La Land.
