And now this

Matthew Young died this morning at Sinai Hospital. He was 16.

Steve was transferred yesterday from Shock Trauma to Sinai, and he was with his son.

The Sun is preparing an obituary of Matt and his sister, Abby, which should run in the main Sunday edition. I will link to it from this site.

Please keep Steve, Nancy, Laura and Carrie in your thoughts.

As a father with kids of my own, this hits home hard. These could have been my children. And the love and respect expressed by their friends and co-workers makes this a sorrowful time for all.

My deep condolences to the family.

This is just tragedy piled upon tragedy. I think it isn't an indulgence to say that one of the more heartbreaking elements is the death of the family dog, who barked to alert the people he loved to the danger. Is there to be no comfort for this family?

Condolences and prayers from our copy desk to yours. May you find your way through these dark times.
