Racinos and health reform
TODAY ON RADIO 88.1 FM WYPR WYPO WYPF
12:00-1:00 pm Eastern: A new study concludes that facilities offering racing and casinos create low-paying jobs that depress salaries in nearby areas. We’ll talk about what these findings could mean for Maryland with the author of the study, Michael Hicks, director of the Bureau of Business Research at Ball State University, and James Karmel, associate professor of history at Harford Community College and a consultant for the Maryland Gaming Association.
1:00-2:00 pm: The debate over health care reformhas reached a fever pitch, and the latest question is whether President Obama and the Democrats on Capitol Hill will succumb to pressure to abandon a public option. But is anger overshadowing this important conversation? Our panel includes Dan Morhaim, an emergency room physician and member of the Maryland House of Delegates who supports a public option in the health care overhaul. Also with us is Dave Schwartz, director of the Maryland state chapter of Americans for Prosperity, a conservative advocacy group that opposes a public option. And rounding out our panel is Bradley Herring, assistant professor in the department of Health Policy and Management at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, who can explain for us how the proposed changes would effect health care delivery and its costs.
