"A Hope in the Unseen" is an amazing book. I heard Ron Suskind talk about his efforts to report the story and how it grew into a book at a writing conference years ago. Suskind's passion for the story and for the student he writes about, Cedric Jennings, inspired me to read his work, which was a great decision.
Sometimes these types of stories of individual will overcoming difficult circumstances can obscure the bigger issues like educational disparities as they invite the question, "He did it, why can't others?" After reading "A Hope in the Unseen," it's clear that Cedric Jennings is an amazing person whose triumph is an unique case study in pride and perseverance.

I am currently reading this book for one of my classes. It's one of those books that I fall asleep with in my hand. Not that it is boring but I just keep on wanting to read more. I can relate to it some what because up until high school I went to schools that were poor and the academics were horrible but I was the one on top as Cedric is.
