Last Oktoberfest at Blob's?

Maryland Gazette is reporting that Blob's Park, the beer garden and polka hall, is closing after seven decades. Oh, say it ain't so!

Here's the story link.

And no doubt in its place will go some mixed use development centered around a fake main street. Perhaps there will be restaurants there where I can order fajitas or seared tuna. And when I'm done with my meal I can buy a $500 card board box from Crate and Barrel or Pier One. Surely, this is progress.

Not only did Max Blob provide entertainment for many centuries, he is credited for sponsoring numerous Germans entering the country back in the '30's - my father being one of them!

Dan-

This is just another sad example of how German Americans have let their culture disappear. From Eichenkranz in the city (I went there recently and I don't know how they are still in business but bless them for trying...) German Americans have a proud heritage of building this nation and every day we lose touch with it. Blob's is one of the few places where we can be a part of that again. Sad sad.
