Blue Jays at White House again
The Hopkins lacrosse team is set to go to the White House on Friday, along with other NCAA championship teams, to be honored in a ceremony with President Bush. The Blue Jays were last there in ’05 -- the year of the Northwestern women's team flip-flop flap -- and W. referred to "John" Hopkins three times when citing the team’s national championship. The White House press office cleaned it up in its transcript of the president’s remarks, but every Hopkins person who heard him -- everyone with a pulse, actually -- winced.
The burning question now: Will the Leader of the Free World again botch the name of one of his country's leading universities? He has a history of being unable to get this right. I'm told that early in his presidency, he visited Hopkins Hospital for some event and called it "John Hopkins" then. Does anybody at the White House tell the president he's a dufus?
We'll be watching Friday, and listening.

Why would his advisors bother correcting him at this point? He's been president for almost seven years, yet he still cannot pronounce "nuclear" correctly.

Does anyone tell you that you are a dufus Rodricks? There a many other problems in this world that whining that the President said "john" instead of "johns." I know plenty of people that slip and say John Hopkins on occasion. It's a pretty easy mistake to make. It's a shame left-wing liberals like you have nothing better to do than pick on every little thing that W. says.

Constructive criticism calling the president a dufus.
At least he isn't a leacherous hillbilly, right?
Thanks for posting my comment!

Like many others who went to JHU, the common mistake of "John" instead of "Johns" is irritating. It's no surprise that Bush, who isn't a verbal wizard, gets it wrong too. Another is MASN's Gary Thorne, who spoke about "John Hopkins" during a recent O's broadcast. Jim Palmer, who surely knows the correct pronunciation, was polite enough not to point out his mistake, but I wish he did.
