Nasty Nestor responds

So, Nestor liked my blog post expressing appreciation for his radio station's programming -- WNST-AM (1570). He didn't so much like what I had to say about him, calling him a self-promoter and saying his criticisms of Orioles management are over-the-top. Here's his response:

I "agree to disagree" regarding (Orioles) ownership...  Ask around with ANYONE who has had the misfortune of having to work with/for them...They are creeps... And they took away my press credential... And they've taken this city's passion for hometown pride and baseball and the Orioles and they've systematically destroyed it...

So much for free speech in America in 2007... Free The Birds 2 is coming in a few weeks...

And if you THINK for a NANOSECOND it's about "self promotion," you're wrong...I REALLY am OFFENDED when people say "publicity stunt!"
We're trying to enact civic change...
What Peter Angelos has done to the streets of downtown Baltimore on a summer night is a DISGRACE and an OUTRAGE...
Come on down here one night when there is a home game...you'll see how barren the streets are...
Come down and talk to the business community down here and how the Orioles' mismanagement has hurt this city in so many ways...

I gave 35 years of my LIFE to the Orioles...my entire media entity EXISTS BECAUSE I was an Orioles fan...

I wrote an ENTIRE BOOK about why I love the Orioles and baseball...

Those empty seats at Camden Yards and that full hill in Cooperstown full of orange should tell you all you need to know...

(My response: Get over it, my friend, and start rooting for the home team. I was downtown for a Tampa Bay game last Wednesday night -- nice crowd, busy restaurants and bars, Bedard starting, nice job from the bullpen, good team defense, Orioles playing well. Good time had by all.)

Nasty Nestor is completely right. The Orioles are a joke, and are one of the most dysfuncational teams in baseball. They have got to have the most mismanaged front office in MLB. They have never been close to having any modicum of success over the past 9 years, and there is no reason to believe things will change in the foreseeable future. As long as the current management structure is in place, with Angelos and his boys making most of the decsions, the Orioles will continue to be one of the major jokes in MLB.

WNST is a station I've listened to for three years. I like that it is local. I like the on air talent very much. Having said that, the non-stop criticism of the O's is too much. Hey-we agree with you. Give it a rest. Every day from March to September is beating a dead horse and, worse, flat out boring. And Nestor, Free The Birds was a nice idea but, come on pal, it was also self promoting.
You could have campaigned to have those attending every game to chant "SELL THE TEAM" say at the end of
of the fifth inning. Before the season ended thousands of fans would have been in the act-every night, every game!

Nestor is wrong. All he cares about is keeping his low rated station afloat. He could care less about anything but Nestor, allways has and allways will

You are both right. Nasty is a self promoter but anybody can see that this cause (saving the birds) is a sincere passion of his and the self promotion is a byproduct of it, planned or otherwise. I see nothing wrong with it.

How about supporting the local team, win or lose? It's no secret that people will support a winner and the stands would be filled if they performed better. But I'm encouraged by the O's recent play and dedication to their young pitching. If you want to support something related to the O's, check out www.thelosscolumn.com and look up "Take Back the Yard" on September 8th. It's a great concept: encourage O's fans to buy tickets and cheer for the O's while they play against the Red Sox!!

Nestor is and has always been ANNOYING and UNPROFESSIONAL. I find it HUMOROUS that he touts himself as such a DIE HARD fan when he has written ESSAYS on his WEBSITE discussing his LOVE for the PHILLIES as a CHILD and YOUNG ADULT. Can you tell I ABHOR his WRITING STYLE?
