Perry edges Romney in Md. GOP poll; Palin fifth
Texas Gov. Rick Perry edged former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination in a straw poll held at the Maryland State Fair, the state GOP announced Friday.
Perry, who also leads national polls among Republicans, scored 25.8 percent of the nearly 900 votes cast, according to the state party. Romney picked up 21.2 percent.
Republican former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the party's 2008 vice presidential nominee, came in fifth, despite not having indicated a campaign for 2012. That put her ahead of Georgia businessman Herman Cain, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich of Georgia, former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman and former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, all of whom have declared their candidacies.
Rep. Ron Paul of Texas came in third with 16.8 percent of the votes. Rep. Michele Bachman of Minnesota finished fourth with 12.5 percent.
"From the attendees, we heard a strong desire to turn our nation and state around and a commitment to make Maryland a two-party state," state GOP Chairman Alex Mooney said. "The Maryland Republican Party is committed to giving individuals, families, and businesses a stronger voice in Annapolis and Washington, D.C."
The complete results, as released by the state party, after the jump.
Rick Perry 25.8 percent
Mitt Romney 21.2 percent
Ron Paul 16.8 percent
Michele Bachmann 12.5 percent
Sarah Palin 7.2 percent
Herman Cain 5 percent
Other/Write-Ins 4.4 percent
Newt Gingrich 2.3 percent
Jon Huntsman 2.2 percent
Rick Santorum 1.4 percent
Buddy Roemer 0.5 percent
Gary Johnson 0.3 percent
Thaddeus McCotter 0.3 percent

Geez Maryland, what are you thinking ?
It is clear and obvious to anybody with half a brain, that Mitt Romney is far and away the most intelligent one running in this race ! He is the one who can save America and put us back to work,
He has tons of Business Experience and an MBA from Harvard, He is smart
Perry studied animal science and is a FAR FAR right extremist
We got to smarten up Maryland ! Pluss Romney wants to save Social Security. Perry does not ! I paid into SS all these years, I want mine ! Let's get it right and vote for ROMNEY ! FOr the sake of our nation !

I do not understand why Jon Huntsman gets as little support as he does. He and Romney are the only two candidates that could win the general election. The rest of the candidates are probably too radical for the general public.
Posted by: Peter | September 9, 2011 4:03 PM
I so agree with Jim on here people !
Mitt Romney is very smart and very presidential !
I have the most faith in him over anybody else to get America straightened out !
Mitt Romney has the BUSINESS EXPERIENCE we need !
We cannot afford to get this election wrong ! WE need Mitt Romney as our nominee !

Ron Paul is the only candidate who is different from any of the others, including Obama.
There is no difference between Obama and Romney. Anyone with 1/2 a brain can see that. Ron Paul is our only hope. And yes, he is electable...contrary to what the brainwashing media would lead you to believe.

Ron Paul has forgotten more about economics and the constitution than Romney and Perry ever knew collectively.
Posted by: Lenny | September 9, 2011 5:13 PM
You guys are very misinformed. It doesnt matter how much experience Mitt Romney has. He will be just as much a puppet of special interests as anyone else.
The only person for liberty and to rebuild the nation is Ron Paul. Please, I plead you, watch anything, even one thing involving him.
You will see the light, Ron Paul 2012.

Posted by: Ryan | September 9, 2011 5:15 PM
As a life-long Democrat, I'll tell you that the only candidate I'd ever vote for is Jon Huntsman. He's the only candidate who has shown that he is capable of forming his own opinions on the issues instead of puppetting party rhetoric. If he's the nominee, you can be certain that I'll think twice before voting Democrat next election. If it's anyone else, Obama's my man.
Posted by: Steve | September 9, 2011 5:15 PM
Perry and Romney will only perpetuate the status quo if elected. They are barely more than well dressed puppets. They will deliver the same change that Obama did, namely very little. You want REAL change? REAL hope? Vote Ron Paul 2012!

Ron Paul 2012! Please people, educate yourselves! Google all the candidates, read all their answers to the issues, and make an informed decision. After you do that I can't see how you could vote for anyone else :)

Ron Paul is the obvious choice. He voted against the war every time LIKE THE REPUBLICAN PARTY USED TO (REAGAN). Has never voted to increase ANY TAX.
On top of that, he wants to lessen the governements domain over the economy bring free enterprise and capitalism back to how it should be.

Wow, yet another media outlet completely ignoring Ron Paul. He comes in third and the article jumps right past 3rd place to 5th so they can mention Palin. How does the media look themselves in the mirror? How do they sleep at night knowing they are playing a major role in the destruction of America?

only Ron Paul is viable. Mitt and Perry are slick politicians and worse than obama. They represent 0.1% of Amercia (the elite) and can't care less about the small guys. The people will go Dr Ron Paul this time around!
Posted by: Tom Benjamin | September 9, 2011 5:22 PM
Palin and Bachman are hurting Ron Paul in voter response more than any other interaction between candidates. Perry is very pro-business and the big boys want him. Romney was last cycles poster boy but people see that he cannot get past RomneyCare.
Ron Paul is electable...and the Tea party and super conservatives, Bachman and Palin respectively are slowing moving into Pauls court due to his record and his tireless steady accent through the polls. Its a long road and Paul is moving up.
It is hilarious that Obama's overall approval rating is at 41 to 42% but in Blacks it is 84%. Ron Paul has data and has talked about how the democratic party is actually hurting the minority classes via entitlement programs that term into dependancy programs with no legacy for offspring.
Posted by: Derek | September 9, 2011 5:22 PM
I find it strange that the polls here show Ron Paul in 3rd. In all of the polls I have been seeing, Ron Paul is leading by a landslide, with Romney 2nd, Bachmann 3rd and Perry 4th. More media editing I see. Ron Paul is the clear and only choice. He won't back down and he is not another clone Romney=Obama and Perry=Bush.

There is only one person that understands that we as a nation are BANKRUPT and his policies would IMMEDIATELY fix the problem. The others are ignoring this inevitable financial apocalypse, thinking that it will all go away. A vote for Perry or Romney is just a vote for Obama because all your going to get is the same ol' same old. We are headed for collapse and those that don't see this are either ignoring it or just don't know it yet. End the Fed, bring the troops home, secure the borders. Ron Paul 2012.

How do you jump from 2nd place to 5th place without mentioning 3rd and 4th? Furthermore, why would you skip those two slots to point out that the person in 5th place - who isn't even running - did better than three other guys who also came in after 3rd and 4th?

Posted by: scandihoovian | September 9, 2011 5:27 PM
How about the headline says ";Paul Third" instead of “;Palin fifth?”
Palin isn't even running, she is a non-entity in this race. Paul is running and polling pretty well.
The lack of his name in the headline or little article about the poll is pretty bad journalism. Even people who don't support Paul are starting to raise their eyebrows at how he gets intentionally ignored. However when he's polling 3rd, ignoring him just makes the author look stupid.
Posted by: Steven_D | September 9, 2011 5:28 PM
Jim's a fool. Romney is a mixture of Bush/Obama... and exactly what we DON'T need. Perry is all hype... ask any Texan that has actually paid attention (like me).
Ron Paul, though I dislike about a third of his foreign policy, is the only candidate with over 5% in this poll that even remotely makes sense. However, he's just a ranter when compared to Cain. Such a shame that Paul and Cain aren't 1-2 in every poll. It only proves that even republican supporters get blinded by big-name glitz and hype.
If you actually pay attention to the policies, track records, experience in and out of politics, and backgrounds overall... not a single one of you would be supporting those liberals in republican clothing like Romney, Perry, Huntsman, Johnson, and McCotter.
We don't need pretty boytoy moderates. We need someone that will go to Washington, revive the standard of the Executive Office, AND LOOK OUT FOR THIS NATION'S BEST INTERESTS.... not those of his own personal banking account, union buddies, or overreaching social causes. Nor do we need a has-been that balked when he had his chance in Gingrich. Nor do we need someone with the on-air brain power of a dead ant like Palin and Bachmann.

Ron Paul in 3rd place. 1st place amongst adults running in the election. Just remember all you supporters of Perry and Romney, if either makes it to the white house, us Ron Paulites will be saying "we told you so" 4 years later. If you don't want to hear it, vote Ron Paul instead.

If you want things to stay exactly the way they are then cast your vote for Mitt "Republicrat" Romney or Rick "Al Gore" Perry. If you want real change in this country for the better, then cast your vote for the one man who actually has some ideas and sticks by them, Ron Paul.

Open your eyes and see that liberty is good, and Ron Paul will soon become the only electable cantidate. Obama, Romney, Perry, Huntsman, Santorum, Cain, Gingrich, Bachman: they are all the same puppeted cantidates. Puppeted by the corporations that have and are ruining this country. Vote freedom, vote Paul.

2. mitt romney
3. R** P***

I am a 27 year old male in Colorado... i supported Ron Paul last year after originally being a democrat. I have NEVER seen a candidate that has so much knowledge about every issue presented to him/her in the debates. Ron Paul demolishes all his questions and has relevant rebuttle without attacking his 'opponents'. Every other candidate I have ever seen in the debates, seems to ALWAYS bypass their questions. They use it to lead into some other issue that is completely irrelevant to the question at hand. I have seen forum after forum on the web FULL of people who are RON PAUL supporters. Even in real life, it seems as though 80+% of people i speak to, say RON PAUL is the only REAL candidate. Then these polls come out, showing these neocons perry and romney leading. I swear America is brainwashed into voted for only physically attractive candidates. Because these guys have no clue what they are talking about on the real issues. But hey, they look pretty! Cmon people, wake up. Ron Paul is a natural born leader and intellectual. These other guys are puppets and the equivalent of an actor. And not to mention, the fact that EVERY article i read, NEVER mentions RON PAUL. WHY!?!?! Just goes to show, the media is completely biased and controlled by the people in power. It is a shame what America has come to. Ron Paul, YOU HAVE MY VOTE AND I WILL BE SURE TO TALK ABOUT YOU EACH AND EVERY CHANCE I HAVE.

If Perry edged Romney, then they should also state that Romney edged Paul - in fact, the difference between Romney and Paul is LESS than that between Perry and Romney. But no, we mustn't upset our ruling oligarchy by the mere mention of someone who stands for freedom and liberty - clearly archaic and outdated concepts in modern America.

Want someone bought and paid for?
With these two leaders in this poll is exactly what you have got!
The Oligarchs have control of the media, corporate America and the education system, listening to the media is leading a lamb to slaughter. Folks, the lies are being exposed daily of the dangerous position America is being lead to and people want to pretend this not true.
Wake Up, it’s True!
For the first time in many decades, we have an option of a true candidate! He has a proven track record in 12 terms in Congress with voting against every tax increase, against every undeclared war, amazing understand of economics, against the Patriot Act and the lone defender of the Constitution & Liberty.
Does your Congressional Representative return budgeted money back to the U.S. Treasury? How about not participating in the Congressional Pension fund? This candidate does not and lobbyists do not even bother to stop in his office, and he is known at Dr. No!
Dr. No does not compromise, will not sell out and a genuine man, who as a medical Doctor has delivered over 4,000 babies & has been married over 50 years to his wife Carol. His, son also a Doctor is a freshman Senator from Kentucky.
This amazing man is Ron Paul and for over 35 years he has been tirelessly warning the American people of the dangers we are facing right now!
RPFacts.com is a site I created to help share is record, please research and learn the truth about this man.
The media is lying about him, both the Democrats & Republicans are marginalizing him, as Dr. Ron Paul scares the establishment & they want to stop this man with real values & sense.
50% of America is receiving entitlements from the government, lining their pockets are our expense. These people are very threatened by Ron Paul; their goal is to drain the American people of all their wealth. They are doing it, are you going to continue to allow this to happen?

I'm from Bethesda MD, the wealthiest, most affluent town in America and I can speak from experience when I say that wealth doesn't necessarily equate to political savvy. This is a very good sign for the cause of liberty and freedom.

Nice to see that so many people are starting to see that Ron Paul is the only "different" approach to the problems of the country. They are seeing that this isn't a Red/Blue, Dem/Rep football game where the only thing that matters is "our" team winning. They are stating to see this is a game with only one team, "we the people" of the United States of America. We all need to rally around the only REAL person in the race. I never thought it would happen personally, but people are starting to think with their own brain instead of acting like the other candidates and just parroting the sound bite of the week. There may be hope yet.

If you want the American dollar to CRASH and more troops sent to war, higher taxes and total destruction of America and support our rights being stripped from American citizens then vote for anyone but Ron Paul
Ron Paul has stuck by the constitution for 30 years, he knows what he's talking about.
You want world peace, sound money backed by gold, troops brought home? Vote Ron Paul for 2012!

Ron Paul is the obvious choice. Mitt would better than Perry. But still bad.
Posted by: Lite | September 9, 2011 6:31 PM
The real tragedy here is not that the polls may be rigged. It's that people still think that Bachmann is a viable candidate or that Palin will run at all (again not a viable candidate even if she does). If the people who supported those libertarians would cast their vote in Ron Paul's favor (who is a libertarian and IS a viable candidate) look at how those numbers would turn around!
Ron Paul 36.5 percent
Rick Perry 25.8 percent
Mitt Romney 21.2 percent
Herman Cain 5 percent
Other/Write-Ins 4.4 percent
Newt Gingrich 2.3 percent
Jon Huntsman 2.2 percent
Rick Santorum 1.4 percent
Buddy Roemer 0.5 percent
Gary Johnson 0.3 percent
Thaddeus McCotter 0.3 percent
Ron Paul supporters don't just need to show new people what he's all about, but have to convince the libertarians out there that he's the only viable option. If the entire libertarian wing of the republican party would get on board, there's no way he could not get the republican nomination. For god and country, vote Ron Paul and let's get our nation back on the right track.

Ron Paul or Bust!
Rememeber, of the 16.8% people that said they'll vote for Ron, 90% of them will stay home next year if he wasn't the Nominee - GOP do you really want to risk losing another term to the democrats?

Ron Paul is electable. It's time for a Revolution!

Read this for what Perry is REALLY like:
http://liberalrickperry.wordpress.com/
He supported the Clinton socialized medicine plan.
Romneycare in MA is overwhelmingly HATED. Romneycare was the MODEL for Obamacare, no matter WHAT he says. He can't undo that he instituted socialized medicine in MA & raised taxes in a state that already had one of the highest tax rates in the US.
Ron Paul has owned a business, he's a doctor so he KNOWS what medicine needs. He knows economics. He knows the Constitution. BTW, did you know that right before the first TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party rallies, Obama & Homeland Security called active duty military & vets potential right wing terrorists - a designation also given to anyone who carries a copy of the US Constitution on their person! You'd think he'd have more gratitude for the people fighting his wars, the ones he promised to bring home in 2008.
I will tell you, as a nurse who's worked the front lines of patient care & has also worked in informatics, hospital education & training, quality improvement, & worked very closely with risk management & corporate compliance, that the REAL reasons healthcare costs are so high are: 1. OVER-REGULATION with contradictory regulations between state, local, JCAHO (& other professional reg. groups), & federal regulators. Even the federal groups can't agree on regulations. Hospitals need fleets of lawyers just to keep the fines down when obeying one set of regulations gets them in trouble w/ a different federal group. Lawyers make in the mid to high 6 figures for salaries. 2. Computer systems are great, but they're purchased by execs who have NO CLUE what doctors, nurses, pharmacists, & other health professionals & ancillaries need at the front line. Doctors then demand expensive customizations that get in the way of the system interfacing with another so we can have the benefits of an EMR wherever we go, & that mess the system up for those who do direct patient care. Then the doctors too often force the nurses & unit clerks to print out things for them so they don't have to look them up. EMRs are almost all based on Windows, the rest on Linux, NONE on the EASIEST computer to use-Apple. Windows crashes constantly. And since legally, interim data saves of documentation of patient care are considered "altering" the medical record, clinicians LOSE all their work when Windows spontaneously reboots or just dies & they have to do it all over again. Getting one system to "talk" to another at a different hospital, & maintaining the database, requires 2 types of IT personnel who also earn 6 figure salaries. When they cut employees, THE FIRST THING THEY CUT IS SUPPORT SERVICES FOR FRONT LINE CARE. The next thing they cut is NURSING personnel, meaning your nurse has too many patients, has to do support & his/her own job, deal with crashing, balky computer systems (BTW, hospitals don't all put wifi in the patient rooms for "privacy" reasons; instead, they make the nurses go out & document in the hall where a lot MORE people can possibly see what's on the screen), drag around heavy laptop, medication, sometimes wound dressing carts, & when their shoulders & backs go bad & they need help, they find some way to fire them (so they don't have to pay unemployment). They waste money by the way they deploy the system (also BTW a single hospital in the 1990s paid $10 million JUST for the software & security upgrades, for a yr contract on a cheap system; fancier ones cost up to $20 million for the same thing. All customizations cost tens to hundreds of thousands more & increase the cost & duration of tech support). 3. LAWSUITS. I once reviewed a chart for a hospital where a woman who came to their ER daily complaining of chest pain refused to undergo treatment until she was fed, then she'd leave. Because she said she had chest pain, they had to expend all these expensive resources DAILY, sometimes 2 times a day, only to have her demand a meal & walk out if she didn't get one (real chest pain patients will obey the order not to eat or drink so they can have their problem diagnosed & treated). One day, she came in 3 times. The 3rd time, the doctor said not to feed her so she could be properly diagnosed. She walked out & SUED THE HOSPITAL FOR IGNORING HER CHEST PAIN. Believe it or not, the case was headed to court. The hospital, despite the meticulous documentation of ALL ER staff, settled out of court for close to a million bucks to avoid the yellow journalism that plagues malpractice cases - no hospital can afford headlines that say a poor person wasn't treated for chest pain, even if the person walked out. Malpractice insurance is eating hospitals & doctors alive-& it's the SINGLE BIGGEST REASON FOR THE SKYROCKETING MEDICAL COSTS. There is no real tort reform that will go through Congress because they are all trial lawyers with few exceptions. If they loose an election & have to actually work for a living, they're not going to get a job in the legal profession if they stop the money machine that is our tort law system in the US.
Jobs? Because of Obamacare regs, the cost to provide health insurance to an employee has gotten way out of hand. Any time an employee uses the insurance, the employer's cost goes up b/c Obamacare gave health insurers MORE freedom to raise prices. They're not going to hire anyone who's not perfectly healthy b/c they'll cost money - so much for disabled employment - & since vets are "potential right wing terrorists" & the Patriot act lets the govt do as it pleases to people & businesses for "sheltering" a "potential terrorist," they're not going to hire vets, let alone disabled ones that will also cost more in health insurance. Plus, the tax breaks are for a limited time. If businesses hire, they'll fire when that limit expires
Pretty interesting, considering that close to 50% of all Americans have at least one chronic condition...we call them "invisible illnesses" b/c we don't look sick - but we are, & we need more healthcare (esp since the govt has been giving the lion's share of research money to AIDS research, meaning other groups - cancer, heart disease, lung disease, crippling kids' diseases, diabetes, among others - have to raise money by begging for donations. I don't mind that normally, but since AIDS is largely preventable, I think it's unfair to fund its research at the expense of others.
THE ONLY CANDIDATE WITH A CHANCE OF FIXING THIS MESS IS DR. RON PAUL.
Posted by: Amy | September 9, 2011 6:36 PM
Sigh. Guess what guys, we need to get away from the Status Quo. It hasn't been working. If you really think there's much difference between Bush/Obama/Perry/Romney, open your eyes and do some research.
If you want your Social Security, and want it to have actual Purchasing Power, how can you not vote for Ron Paul. He is the only one with a proposal that will actually make sure you get what you feel your entitled too.
Just because Romney goes "Oh, Social Security is good. We Should keep that" doesn't mean jack. He has no plan for it. Nothing to deal with the unfunded liabilities. And more importantly, he doesn't say anything about monetary policy which is at the root of most of our problems.
Everyone needs a reality check. I think extreme is a Federal Government with annual deficits projected to be over a Trillion $ for the next decade. I think extreme is believing cutting 2 Trillion $ from proposed future spending increases is a "huge cut" and a "responsible way to tackle the deficit".
We definitely need an EXTREME change from what we have and what we've been getting.
Come over to logic. Come over to real answers, not rhetoric and talking points. Come over to the liberty that can BRING ALL OF US TOGETHER.
Ron Paul 2012. Cause our kids deserve better than this.

Ron Paul is indeed electable and the more people are truly waking up, the more you see this reflected in the polls. I am a lifelong Republican and even marginalized him myself in 2008, until I stopped buying the superficial talking points and really studied some of the deeper issues he has brought to the forefront (and other GOP candidates are now parroting!) , such as "the Fed" Argument. It affects individual Americans' FAR more intimately than even they realize until they really look at the impact is has on their family and prosperity. As a Hannity-loving, Fox-news-defending conservative, I am irritated even with them, that despite always being in the top 3 in polls, he is still never mentioned with the supposed "Frontrunners". That should offend ANY American, that the media will be so arrogant as to "designate" who's relevant TO you, rather than reporting the news as it actually exists.
Last time I checked, the American People decide who's "electable". Let's keep it that way! Ron Paul is all about protecting that, and the rest of your rights, and even if you don't agree with everything in his platform, he has already promised that he won't "work around" the people's representatives and trample the Constitution by Executive order, or go to war at the direction of a Foreign entity. We need that kind of Integrity and honor in the White House, and he has been consistent in that over 30 years.

how can anyone even consider voting for rick perry or mit rommney? all they say, "OH IF I BECOME PRESIDENT, I WILL CREATE JOBS!"... yea and leave all the underline problems alone and just throw more money in the fire and ruin our lives even more!
THE PROBLEM IS NOT JOBS WE DONT NEED 100% 90% 80% 70% NOT EVEN 50% EMPLOYMENT TO HAVE GOOD LIVES!
we need sound money, healthy markets, functional government, end to all violence and discrimination and specially all wars and armament of an out of control military industrial complex to maintain this globalist evil empire which does nothing but supress the rest of the world and starve it from prosperity on a local level for all of the worlds inhabitants!
we need RON PAUL! hes the ONLY ONE that can and WILL do this!

To anyone who commented and isn't a Maryland resident -- just look at some of the bozos who got elected into this state's government, and you'll understand how politically ignorant a lot of the voters here really are. A contributing factor to their ignorance is the very paper hosting this blog; they should really change their name from Baltimore Sun to Liberal Democrat and be done with it.

People are waking up. For those who don't support Ron Paul please stop watching the corporate media and letting them spoon feed you who they want you to vote for. Read and look things up on the internet. The corporations and banks are trying to install our next leader. There is a reason why anywhere there is back and forth communication (like comment threads, forums, YouTube, meet up groups, rallies, etc) there are tons of Ron Paul supporters. But where there is one directional information, like our corporate sponsored media, it tries to not mention him. Corporations and banks fear Ron Paul.

Every one of the Democrats & Republicans are beholden to the special interests & Lobbyists except Ron Paul. Every one of them takes money from said special interests except Ron Paul. Please check Ron Paul's site and click on "issues". Learn why he is the Best choice. Stop printing money. Stop spending money. Stop all the wars. Get rid of the IRS and use a flat tax for all. No outsourcing to China. Create jobs & Manufacture in the USA again! Ron Paul will do that.

Issues that he has been warning us of have been coming true, and now his GOP competitors are starting to parrot his issues, but don't be fooled; they are phoney imitators who will play the corporatism game. For example, read up on Rick Perry here: http://liberalrickperry.wordpress.com/

I was most impressed with Jon Huntsman. He was reasonable, decisive and has a great record. tHe only thing he hasn't got is interest by the media. Of all the hopefuls, he reminds me of a statesman rather than a politician.
Please look at his record.

I just wrote a bunch of comments & they did not post them. Whatever. I hope they're posting everything? Anyway let me just cut it short this time & say you can go to Ron Paul's official page and check under The ISSUES to see what Ron Paul stands for. He is Honest, Intelligent, & has great ideas for getting this country back on track. Voting for any of the other candidates could spin this country into a Depression. I don't even want to think about what happens if Ron Paul doesn't get elected. Get to the Primaries and vote for Ron Paul! Then vote for him in the Presidential election. Ron Paul is the only reasonable, educated, and trustworthy candidate with an unwavering dedication to help repair America. I only fear that he'll eliminate many undue executive powers BEFORE he uses them for great change. But then, you're either for the Constitution, or against it. Ron Paul 2012.

Rick Perry could make a good cabinet member - in fact they all could (except Ron Paul, the loony, awkward uncle). I'd put someone like Bachmann as my VP (or Rubio if we can convince him :)), Gingrich as the Secretary of Defense, Perry as Secretary of State, Santorum as Secretary of Education, Cain on the Treasury. Who else is with me! Romney/Bachmann 2012!

@ Deft:
Yo say Romney is the smartest politician running. That's fine, you are entitled to your opinion, but I disagree. Paul has studied economics. He is a founder of The Mises school of economics. He is a Dr and a former business partner in a private business. He is the only politician on stage who actually stands by what he believes and doesn't say anything to get elected. Perry gets his talking points about the FED and Austrian economics from Paul. Check out Paul on YouTube and see if you agree....RON PAUL 2012 Find out what the media doesn't want you to know.

We can all clearly see that Washington DC is broken and broke. And it has been corrupt for many years, running for the administrative convenience and enrichment of Wall St. bankers, the Elite, multinational corporations, special interests groups, and the all powerful military industrial complex. Republicans and Democrats have let us down time and time again with their outright lies and broken promises. If the United States are to remain free and democratic, if we want to preserve our republic we must protect and save our Constitutional rights. Although imperfect, the documents that chartered the union are the only safeguards we have against an all powerful tyrannical centralized federal government system, that can be co-opted and subverted by the influential and psychopathic, and used to control and enslave the people.
Don't let the corporate media moguls and the special interests tell you how to think or who's electable in 2012 They do everything in their power to demonize any candidate who speaks out against the business as usual political jargon, like; big government taking care of everyone from cradle to grave, the failed interventionist foreign policies(empire building, policing the world,) going to war with one nation after the next without a constitutional declaration from the congress, a failed monetary policy of allowing the Fed. Reserve to continue printing money to prop our over sixty trillion dollars in past present and future obligatory debt. Intentionally destroying the value of our currency by price inflation.
Yes, any candidate for the U.S. House or Senate, or Presidential race that takes a strong stand against a growing federal government, out of control federal spending, oppressive taxation and regulations on individuals and businesses, any candidate with the stones and principles who would actually do what they say their going to do and fight to restrain all of this run-a-mock federal authority. Those fine and upstanding statesmen get mostly ignored or marginalized by the mainstream media.. And when that doesn't work out for the media and their crony establishment they resort to outright attacks with lies and propaganda in order to convince people that these fine upstanding men of honor are some kind of crackpots, racists, extremists, or seditious. Ultimately trying their best to convince you that, even if you do like their platform, their somehow un-electable. I implore you folks...WAKE UP!!Don't be sucked in to their trap. We are in big trouble as a nation if we allow ourselves to believe their deceptions, or if we allow ourselves to believe our situation is hopeless. I believe that we can still make a difference.. Its going to require a willingness to educate ourselves about what is really going on behind the scenes in our country and the world, and get involved in any way that we can to educate others and spread a message of hope. This will be one small part of my effort I just shutter and cringe in anger when I think about all the crap our congress and presidents have been doing to us for so long, and especially of recent. Things like passing and extending legislation like the Patriot Act that are a direct assault on and are the grounds for the complete enilation of our 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 10th, and 14th amendment rights. A large number in congress who want to enact federal ID cards to track our entire existence. And why? Because they are power mongers and authoritarians at heart, evil from conception. The Bilderberg's, the Trilateralist, Scull & Bones, numerous entities who want to run your life and take your money on behalf of the wealthiest people on earth. Not only that but ultimately these secret societies and their workers within our government at every level are seeking world domination and the New World Order. Our national sovereignty is literally being handed over right now. If we don't get things right in the 2012 elections I believe that we might well have missed our chance. A complete suspension of the constitution and declaration of martial law by mid 2013 would be my guess.
That's why I have joined the Ron Paul campaign for Presidency for 2012 as a volunteer worker. I've done so because I believe he is a true statesman, a man of his word. And I know this based on his long standing service in congress and the votes he continues to cast while in that office, that he is America's leading candidate for limited constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, return to sound monetary policies, and someone who has pledged to end our interventionist foreign policies of invasions, occupations, undeclared wars, world policing and empire building abroad and to bring all of our troops home from abroad without further delay. If you are disgusted by what corporate interests have gotten away with in recent years, you must understand that it wouldn't have been possible without government complicity. A small government cannot pass out favors to cronies, and therefore representatives are less likely to be corrupted. Don't allow the media to convince you that libertarian ideals are quaint, bizarre, or anachronistic. Don't allow the likes of the ADL and Southern Poverty Law Center to get away with saying that you're a racist if you believe you've been taxed enough and you think the borders should be secured. Dr. Paul represents a return to common sense in government, and to the freedom that allowed such great prosperity in our country. So take a listen to Congressman Paul's words as he is interviewed by the media, gives speeches to students and supporters, and debates ideological foes. If you have had it with the Bush/Obama regime, Ron Paul offers Real Hope For America. I urge you to learn more for yourself about Ron at his official campaign website or on his youtube channel.

Give it a bit of time, and as we start seeing Perry's true side, he'll start going down in the ranks and eventually fall off the face of this election (As it is happening to Bachmann)

It's clear that many Americans would not recognize George Washington if he were running. Why? Because they listen to the media instead of reading the Constitution and understanding it for themselves. Ron Paul is the closest thing to a Founder that we have ever seen, we should vote for him REGARDLESS of what the media says or what lies are told about him. If we do not listen to his own words and explanations for each of his positions, and take the time to study the facts for ourselves, we are not doing our duty as Americans. Ron Paul 2012!! There is HOPE for America, we just have to vote in the Republican Primary and make sure Paul gets on the ballot against Obama.

You know, the most telling indication that America's Statesman, Ron Paul, will be the next POTUS occurred when he became the 800-lb gorilla and elephant in the room. In other words the world awes him.
Therefore to humanity-haters, please ramp-up the ad hominem attacks and propagandistic omissions. It's free endorsement and perhaps miraculous.
Posted by: ron_pablo | September 10, 2011 11:20 AM
As a recovering neocon, I can proudly say that the constitutionalist Ron Paul and his supporters like myself place principle over and above party. That means that on principle, even if Ron Paul does not get the Republican nomination (which is likely), we will still vote for him as a write-in candidate even if it means Obama gets re-elected because of it. Better might be if Ron Paul were to run as an independent, in which he might have an even stronger chance of getting elected than as the Republican nominee anyways.
Down with both the Welfare State of the socialist left and the Warfare State of the neocon right! Back to the limits on government set by the Constitution which the government falsely claims to abide by! Back to liberty for the people!
Ron Paul 2012!!!

I'm from Maryland. A lot of people in this state are highly educated just like Mass and New Hampshire. A lot of people I know here would vote Romney because he is far and away the superior candidate. I wish I knew about the poll at the state fair. I would have brought my family and friends to vote for Romney.
So before you start bashing Maryland for being stupid and picking Perry, the texas cheerleader who majored in Cs and Ds at A&M and a D in economics 101 and thinks Al Gore invented the Internet and he was the reason there is Oil in Texas, just remember the uneducated rednecks in this state mostly go to the state fair.
Posted by: Don | September 10, 2011 12:24 PM
Ron Paul. Liked the comment that said approximately 16.8% of Marylanders are paying attention. I'd add that this same group is likely to be those who actually have an understanding of what Independence means (a lack of Dependence).
The Media do not like Ron Paul because the Media likes to think for America. Ron Paul Advocates like to think for themselves, simply because we are able. We like to do for ourselves as well, simply because we are able.
What do Paul detractors all have in common? They ARE DEPENDENT upon others to the point that they REQUIRE Leadership and Direction from the Tenured Leaders of the Two Party System that has gotten us into this mess. That's a pretty crappy place to be in life. They are not capable of Independence so we should expect to see them fight hard to keep the Plantation up & running.

Ron Paul is a candidate who really makes sense. People need to spread the word and do some research on google/wikipedia etc. He is electable

The media hates Ron Paul. That IS the reason we should support Ron Paul. The media is anti matter a polar opposite of the American people. The rest of the GOP field are just puppets and sycophants with rich connections. SOS IMHO RON PAUL 2012
Posted by: Biff Jones | September 10, 2011 3:11 PM
The debates are a JOKE! They are served up by a corporate controlled media to a zombie-land public to allow people to PRETEND that they know something about what the candidates stand for. Stop lying to yourselves! Take ten minutes a day and google the candidates! Stop waving your flags just so everyone else can see it! (PALIN) Be a REAL Patriot and do the research before you weigh in at the polls.
I'm really encouraged by the comments here. It is impressive to see how many of Ron Paul's Supporters actually have awareness of truly crucial ideological issues.

I challenge all on here to just do your own research on these people.....i know most of you are really busy but this really does matter. all it takes is a little time each day, most people are severly mis informed mostly because of the corp.media and also because they just wont do their own research... Just research yourself via the web or youtube and you will clearly see that Ron Paul is the real deal and has been for the past 25+ yrs

Ron Paul is completely electable...in fact he beats Obama in the polls. Liberals want to end the wars. Obama will not do that... Paul will. Conservatives want someone who will balance the budget. Romney won't. Perry won't. Paul will.

As one who has voted Dem in my short life.
I am now sad to see that it is true Rep and Dems are all the same bunch of liars and only care to push pet projects and help the rich people, corporations that support them.
I have done my own research on Ron Paul through Youtube and I have googled him.
I do think that if he says that he will
End the WARS!! and bring our troops home
help our economy and free us from the ever growing debt (Federal Reserve) printing counter fitted money with Interest that we should not pay as per the US Constitution Congress shall be able to print interest FREE currency Ron Paul will do as he says.
I voted for Obama and he along with Palozi pushed the Health CARE TAX before it could be read !!! please do your own research.
I will be voting for only The TRUE ONE
Ron Paul 2012!

If you want to vote for Romney don't worry about voting for him in the primary, he will already be running in the general election as a democrat under the code name "Obama".
If you want to vote for a conservative, Ron Paul happens to be running.

Dunno who wrote this short piece, whether 'twas Annie Linskey, John Fritze, or Julie Scharper, but I have this question:
Your first and 2nd graphs--sentences, really-- treat of Romney and Rick Parry, who came in like this:
Rick Perry 25.8 percent --- 4.6% ahead of Romney
Mitt Romney 21.2 percent--4.4% ahead of Paul
Ron Paul 16.8 percent--4.3% ahead of Bachman
Michele Bachmann 12.5 percent--5.3% ahead of Pail'n
Sarah Palin 7.2 percent--2.2% ahead of Cain
Herman Cain 5 percent--0.6% ahead of Other/Write-ins
Other/Write-Ins 4.4 percent--2.1% ahead of Newt
Newt Gingrich 2.3 percent--0.1% ahead of Huntsman
Jon Huntsman 2.2 percent--0.8% ahead of Santorum
Rick Santorum 1.4 percent--0.8% ahead of Roemer
Buddy Roemer 0.5 percent--0.2% ahead of Johnson
Gary Johnson 0.3 percent--0.0% ahead of McCotter
Thaddeus McCotter 0.3 percent--0.0% ahead of Johnson
The next paragraph goes to Palin, at 5, and those below her. So what happened with #3, Ron Paul, and Ms. Bachman? The spread on Perry, Romney & Paul is not greater than 4.6%, but the gap between Paul & Bachman is 5.3%, and the rest of the pack is pretty much bunched up below "other/Write-ins".
Howcome you skip the third and fourth highest on the list? I find it odd, if not deliberately reprehensible. What's your rationale? Or excuse?

Ron Paul is the only candidate that is not a rubber stamp of every president we have had before.
I can not even stand to hear the lies that come out of the mouths of any of the others listed because we have all heard them all before, it's like they are reading a script that the media really likes.
If you want the world to change and our country to get in gear, out of war and back to it's freedom, real freedom, then read up and study up on DOCTOR RON PAUL.
DOCTOR-not politician.

OK, I voted in the straw poll for Ron Paul. With the exception of former Gov. Gary Johnson, can anyone honestly tell me how any of the other candidates differentiate themselves from one another? Electing Perry/Romney will just lead to another NWO/statist like the one currently in the White House 4 or 8 years from now. I just can't see any example of Perry's/Romney's decisions being based on Constitutional principles. No, Ron or Gary are not perfect, but they have at least mentioned governing by laws laid out by the Founding Fathers. Haven't heard Cain, Huntsman, Perry, or Romney say as much. If you don't vote on principles, you reduce your vote to buying empty promises.
Posted by: John | September 11, 2011 2:28 AM
Seems some people here don't understand why Romney is a bad choice. Yah he may be smart and have his finesse, but he is a corporate buddy and its written all over his proposed plans. We have too much corporate interest in Washington and its the reason we can't get anything done for ourselves. Ron Paul may be Libertarian through and through, but at least you know he sticks by his morals and won't allow himself to be bought out or corrupted. We need a president that is honestly looking out for the country and it's people.
The only other person who is possibly like that is Huntsman, who is showing to be quite moderate and balanced. He's civil and tries to stay focused on ideas rather than play politics. I'm not as confident in him sticking to them as I am with Ron Paul, but so far its good. People really need to get off this "I'm going to allow myself to be tricked into voting for the most attractive man" that the media likes to play. It is destroying our country.
Posted by: Danielle | September 11, 2011 3:59 AM
EVERYONE should read Romney's plan for America as it is all about destroying America.
Romney wants to INCREASE foreign workers AND "staple a green card to every foreign student's diploma".
THIS IS SOMETHING NO OTHER COUNTRY WOULD THINK OF DOING.
Why doesn't Romney feel that American jobs should be for Americans?
Why did Romney quit in 2008 BEFORE Super Tuesday and basically give us Juan McCain which in turn gave us Obama?
Why would anyone vote for this clown?
For all his faults, and there are a few, at least Rick Perry has served in the military and will stand up to Mexico and execute a killer in Texas.
And here's a newsflash...Social Security really is a PONZI Scam.
I'm tired of Commanders in Chief who are either cowards or draft dodgers and never severed to defend our country.
Only Perry and Paul are veterans, and that goes a long way with me.
Posted by: America First | September 11, 2011 7:26 AM
Rick Perry was Al Gore's 1988 Texas campaign chairman. He also supported HillaryCare. He was also a male cheerleader at Texas A&M. Oh, and Richard isn't even his first name! Look it all up for yourself and discover the truth about this political chameleon.

Ron Paul rEVOLution all the way. He is the only one capable to get us out of this mess, vastly more intelligent than the rest, and has integrity. The mainstream media blatently hiding Ron Paul from news coverage, which is reason enough for me to vote for him. Of course, the weak minded will still say that he is unelectable because thats what you just heard on Faux (FOX) News and MSNBC. He is no joke, just look into his track record and the numerous occurances of the media covering him up...to the extent of dubbing in boos where cheers were in the debates! Admittedly! Stop watching Faux and start listening to real people, like Dr. Ron Paul.

Ron Paul represents REAL hope and REAL change. Sound money, efficient government, free markets, and a foreign policy that encourages trade and curbs the current worldwide animosity towards the US.
Most importantly, Ron Paul will NOT be swayed by lobbyists, powerful companies or anyone else seeking under-the-table advantages. Ron Paul is steadfast, fair and honest. He has been leading the charge on these current "hot-button" issues for decades. Every other GOP candidate is just jumping on board in the final months simple to say whatever they need to say to get votes.
I suggest looking up video clips of Ron Paul 15-20 years ago discussing the dangers of currency inflation, the erosion of constitutional rights and the rapid expansion of government into every facet of American life. He hasn't changed his story since then, and he won't change it once he's in the oval office.

It's funny, this article doesn't mention Ron Paul until AFTER they mentioned 5th place Sarah Palin. I'm not going to call this "biased", but a lot of the media is ignoring Ron Paul's strength with the people.
