Cummings presses for 9/11 probe of News Corp.
On the day after the 10-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings joined seven other Democrats in renewing their call for an investigation into whether Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. tried to hack telephones of those killed in New York and Washington.
More than a dozen people have been arrested as part of a scandal involving News Corp. reporters in London hacking into voicemail messages of politicians and crime victims. Department of Justice officials have said they are looking into claims that the journalists also offered to buy telephone records of Sept. 11 victims from New York police officers.
“As you know, we have just observed the tenth anniversary of the September 11th attacks on our nation and these victims deserve to know whether they were targeted in this offensive and potentially illegal manner,” according to a letter signed by the Baltimore Democrat and his colleagues.
“We request that the committee at least take preliminary steps to determine how to proceed, such as meeting with the September 11th families, consulting with the Department of Justice, and pursuing other measures the committee has utilized in many other investigations,” the letter read.
Cummings is the top-ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee. Democrats on the committee have previously requested that Republican Chairman Darrell Issa launch an investigation of the issue.

What a disgusting political maneuver. Trying to use people's feelings for 9/11 to attach Murdoch and make a name for himself.
You don't need to call for an investigation. If there is a need for an investigation I am sure the Justice Department is already on top of it.
This is just a sick attempt to get his name out there and attach Murdoch. He should be ashamed of himself.

How dare they call for a congressional investigation for something there's ample evidence of! It's all politics!

Yes he will be there in the house forever, democrats in Maryland will vote him .Does he investigate how the border patrol got killed by Obamas arm deals with the cartel from Mexico? No.

Thank you, Mr. Cummings. This should
have been done years ago. Rupert Murdoch cannot be trusted wherever there are dollar signs flashing. They did it to people in London, so if there were money to be made in New York's tragedy, what is there to stop them?

Thank you Mr. Cummings. Don't listen to the Teabaggers and haters. You are doing a great thing. The Teabaggers are scared crapless that the owner of Fox/Fix News might be brought down, and with him the media arm of the Teabagger/Republican parties. ONe can surely hope!

Who else finds it funny that politician's use American's hard earned dollars for things like this. Is it screwed up what News Corp. has been accused of? Of course. But we have people getting murdered everyday in Baltimore and illegal aliens stealing education from us. There are bigger things to take down before it bites us like a diseased rat. Like rumors of crime numbers being tampered with from renowned MD politicians. That's a probe that someone should do, but it'll never happen because O'Malley is the same person who put The Wire down only because it was telling the truth. Anyway, God Bless America and may all who have lost on 9/11 have forever peace in their lives.

Leave it to Cummings to use September 11th and its memory for his own sick perverted desires! He also had sick perverted desires to dig into MLB players lockers for his own desires.
How about he dig so deep into the Fast & Furious scandal? He is a major player on the committee for F&F.
He's rather see that disappear to save his brothers Eric Holder and BHO!

Thank you, Congressman Cummings, for keeping the pressure on the Department of Justice to look into what illegal activity murduck, Faux News, and the entire News Corpse operation might have been (or is still) involved in.
If there was nothing illegal done, you'd think the TEA BAGGERs would welcome an investigation that would clear the name of the fools. Since they are so mightily protesting such an investigation, it is an indication that they are pretty sure something illegal occurred (and/or is still occurring), and they are afraid that the light of day will expose it.

That's odd...I thought that "Teabaggers" were guys that hang out around the rest room at the Hippo AND they most likely are NOT Republicans!!!

Cummings is a scumbag. There is not one shred of proof that they may have engaged in this conduct here but he wants an investigation, probably partially to detract from Issa's investigation of the Obama's administration blatant breaking of U.S. and international law by allowing the BATFE to funnel guns into Mexican drug runners hands. He is trying to hinder that investigation but wants to undertake this one. People like Cummings give politicians a bad name.
