That is real shame! He brought a lighter, airiness to the otherwise stodgy chambers of politics. He will be missed.

My thoughts and prayers go to the Schaefer family. I really respected Governor Schaefer. He was very involved during his time in office, and I remember meeting him more than once when he was in office. He was an inspiration and will truly be missed. God Bless him!

Wow what a civil servant! I wept when I heard Mr Donald Schaefer had passed away, as I am sure many of the citizens of Maryland did. He was a devoted man, devoted to his mother, our country , our city, and our state. I remember meeting him when I was a teenager. He came into a poor neighborhood and took the time to tell young people like myself to keep being proud of who you are and where you live. He took the time to shake my hand. A poor kid who's father had left her Mom with 6 kids and no assistance. His blue eyes penetrated mine has he looked into my soul. Almost ( along with God) telling me to see the beauty in everything, including our drug infested city .
He will truly be missed. I think the least we could have done and should do is to create a memorial over looking the harbor in his honor.
Thank you sir for your time and energy and passion , and I am sure now you know how much you meant to so many.
Sincerely,
Kathy

After all is said and done, he will be one for the ages. His ability to breathe life into visions was a gift. He made you believe and made you proud. A true Baltimore icon.
