I concede. Beep.

After nasty political campaigns, those concession phone calls must be pretty awkward.

Bob Ehrlich may have found a way around that.

Instead of talking to Martin O'Malley on Election Night, Ehrlich phoned the governor's mansion while O'Malley was out at his victory party and left a message.

Makes sense. Ehrlich used to live there, so he knows the number.

That's according to a source close to O'Malley. I tried to double-check that account with Ehrlich spokesman Henry Fawell. But he wasn't sure that the two had spoken, only that Ehrlich had called.

"I know a call was placed," Fawell said. "I don't know beyond that."

Gutless by Ehrlich.

Lies from the spokesman.

Amazing how the Sun's political reporters have failed to acknowledge on this blog Andy Harris' win over Frank Kratovil.

On reflection, perhaps it is not so amazing. After all, they were the ones who touted the Baltimore Sun poll that showed the race as a dead heat and failed to mention the Monmouth University poll (conducted during the same period as the Sun poll) which found Harris to be leading Kratovil by 11%. Election Day, the only real poll that counts, showed Harris having soundly defeated Kratovil by 13%.

A Sun editorial endorsing Kratovil and a Sun commissioned poll showing Kratovil in a tie on election eve were not enough to fool the voters. They cast their ballots along the lines they reported to Monmouth University's pollsters.

The silence of these 'reporters' in the aftermath of the vote speaks volumes.
