No official word on Jessamy/Bernstein race

Most of the city's votes have been tallied. The Election Board has unofficially listed state's attorney challenger Gregg Bernstein as victorious against incumbent Patricia C. Jessamy. But nobody has claimed victory or defeat.

Jessamy's camp said today that there were no plans to concede. From Baltimore Sun reporter Tricia Bishop:

“I just don’t know how this happened,” said Jessamy’s spokeswoman  Marilyn Harris-Davis, questioning the integrity of Bernstein’s campaign, which Jessamy has said was made up of “lies” and misrepresentations about her record.

A spokesman from Bernstein's camp said this morning that they were expecting word from the Elections Board by early afternoon.

SEE YOU AROUND THE COURTHOUSE PEPERMINT PATTY?!?!

Newsflash from 9/20/10.

"100% of all ballots have now been counted, including all absentee ballots. Mr. Berstein continues lead Ms. Jessamy, now by over 2000 votes. Despite that fact...."

It happened because Baltimoreans are smarter than you think. And the undercurrent of "vote for me or the white guy will lock you up" in your campaign did not fly.

Usually a lower voter turnout bodes well for incumbents, you ran a very poor campaign.

That is why.

Marilyn it happened because Pat is incompedent and everyone knows it.

She was not running for social worker she was the State's Attorney. Her job is (was) to prosecute criminals not work for social reforms. There are plenty of people to handle social reforms we need someone to lock up the bad guys.

As a big plus to her loss we no longer have to hear from that imbicle Margaret Burns who should have been fired after her remarks in the Sowers incident.

Good riddance to Jessamy. She's weak and doesn't want to put the effort into really going after cases that would ensure thugs are put in prison and kept there. I hope Bernstein is the change that is so desperately needed in the SA's office.

I am laughing so hard right now!!!
"I just don't know how this happened"! Oh my god, give her a gold star for dolt statement of the day. Here is how it happened: They out raised you by 4xs, kept you on the defensive the whole time, and out smarted you the entire race and in every debate.
Mean while you gave out false numbers publicly (by stating the commitment rate to the state prison system was the same as the conviction rate) and ran fuzzy math on TV adds (crime down by 59%- no one bought that except for the Afro Paper, BTW basic division is not an accurate way to present statistics). Then expected people to be dumb enough to fall for your rhetoric.
Bernstein (while I will admit threw a little political mud) ran a hard campaign, never underestimated his opponent- the way she did- and didn't take one voter in this city for granted - the way she did.
"I just don't know how this happened" HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! No wonder you lost!
BTW for you math wiz kids that are working her campaign he only needs 310 of those 1700 absentee ballots in order to cement this thing... Peace be your journey!

I think the less Ms. Jessamy's spokesperson has to say about anything the better. Her odd statements just place even more emphasis on the question of why she is there in the first place. I wouldn't wish a job loss on anyone, but the City State's Attorney's Office needs to use its limited resources to pay for prosecutors (or voice mail, or Blackberrys) and not paid spokespersons.

Glad to see her gone

This walking embarassment can't get booted out fast enough. Goodbye you utter and complete failure. Your days of embarassing our city and putting taxpayers at risk are at an end. GTFO.

Early this morning it said 100% of precincts, now it says 97%. Why is this count of absentee ballots taking so long?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is ridiculous, it is almost 2:30 pm and we still do not have a definite winner. Just finish the count so we can congratulate Bernstein and get that fat troll out of her office.

"I just don't know how this happened!"
Heeeeere's your sign...

"I don't know how this happened" Well you see, your candidate got less votes than the other that's how....oh wait you mean, how did your race-baiting not work? Well when it's apparent that the vast majority of the voters in Baltimore didn't care enough to vote, that's what happens. If ANYONE tries to play the race card here, look to the 80%+ of voters who chose to stay home and ask where were you?

believe Ms. Jessamy became complacent after time in office. She is a brillant woman and now the pressure is on Mr. Bernstein to make a difference. Mr. Bernstein's worst nightmare would be Ms. J representing a client in a high profile case. As you are aware, all of the high profile law firms are courting her at this moment.

Vernon who cares if jessamy ends up at a high profile law firm, she's a private citzen, not a public official at that point, I'm more worried with getting the criminals prosecuted then where her career goes thats just trivial

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha . "gonna set us back 60 years huh Jess?
LIER! C ya- don't let the door hit you on the way out!

@vernon: courting her as what? She has no idea how to practice law, and big law firms don't employ social workers.

Good riddens, I suspected at all times PJ has a lot of theives, murders & crimmnals as relatives, reason for not wanting to prosecute crime.

Why, Vernon? Do all the high-profile law firms need someone to embarrass them as much as she did the City of Baltimore over the past 15 years? What a complete and utter POS she is and was! Good riddance. Now, maybe someone will work WITH the police to convict, instead of coddling criminals. When someone has held a job for 15 years based solely on skin color, and has YET to be able to work with a single police commissioner, black or white, that should tell you something. She is a fat, lazy, incompetent bigot, who tried to play the race card, and LOST. See ya.
