Defeated foe backs Harris in Maryland One

Conservative businessman Rob Fisher has endorsed Republican state Sen. Andy Harris in the First District congressional contest.

Fisher, a first-time candidate, ran a largely self-financed outsider campaign against Harris, a 12-year veteran of the Maryland legislature. Harris won by a two-to-one margin.

“Now that the Republican primary is over, we need to unify behind our nominee, Andy Harris,” said Rob Fisher, according to a statement from the Harris campaign.

“Andy has my full support and I will do anything I can to get him elected and to ensure Frank Kratovil joins the ranks of the thousands of unemployed Marylanders his and Nancy Pelosi's policies have created."

Fisher called Harris shortly before 11 o'clock on election night to concede. He was the only other Republican on the primary ballot in the congressional district that takes in the entire Eastern Shore and portions of Anne Arundel, Baltimore and Harford counties.

Freshman Rep. Frank Kratovil, who edged Harris in the 2008 general election, was unopposed in the Democratic primary.

After Harris unseated moderate Republican Rep. Wayne Gilchrest, the defeated incumbent helped Democrat Kratovil get elected. Last week, Gilchrest--who endorsed Fisher over Harris in the primary--was the draw at a fund-raising event for Kratovil and can be expected to endorse him publicly again this fall.

Harris is a wingnut in the tradition of Christine O'Donnell in Delaware, and, if it were not for his selfishness and ego, there would still be a Republican serving in this seat (and one with seniority). Thanks, Andy.

I hope this embarassment of a candidate gets beat again. Kratovil is not my cup of tea, but he will be the lone Democrat I vote for again this year.

Hey Knucklehead,

If Harris had not defeated Gilchrest, it would be his foot on the gas pedal of the out-of-control spending vehicle be driven by Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Barack Obama instead of that of Frank Kratovil. The residents of the First District are sick and tired of the out of control growth in Federal spending that Gilchrest supported during his tenure and Kratovil has continued during his two years in Congress.

Andy Harris is committed to bring an end to this madness. The voters in the First District will rally to his side on November 2. If the polls are correct, Americans will be doing likewise all across the country.

Chestertownie
You can't be a real townie cause if you were you'd be nauseated by the prospect of a western shoreman representing the first district. I still don't think Harris could drive from Rock Hall to Federalsburg on his own, even though he hasn't really worked on anything but a campaign for the past two years. The most important part of the representation of the first district is knowledge of it's unique economic and environmental issues that arise from it's wonderful geography. Giving that knowledge up for that conservative anti pelosi dogma agenda is a price I can't believe a real shoreman would want to pay. We will find out in Nov, eh?
