Obama weighs in on guv race
Tens of thousands of Maryland Obama supporters received email messages yesterday afternoon from the president asking them to support Gov. Martin O'Malley in November. The endorsement isn’t a huge surprise – the White House is sending Vice President Joe Biden to Maryland later this month to campaign for O’Malley.
There’s no word, however, on whether Obama will hit the trail. He’s popular in the state and could fuel enthusiasm and turnout in Baltimore and Prince George’s County - home to large numbers of African-Americans.
Since moving into the White House, Obama has made frequent stops in Maryland with O’Malley – including inviting the governor to a news conference where he announced that the federal government would lease land for oil drilling off the coast of Virginia. Obama reversed that decision after the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
Republican former Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr., is also attracting some national GOP endorsements. Potential 2012 presidential contender Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romeny keynoted a state Republican fundraiser in June. Ehrlich’s first lieutenant governor pick, Michael Steele, also palled around with Ehrlich at the event.
But campaign spokesman Andy Barth could not say whether the national party’s superstar Sarah Palin would make an appearance.

A political endorsement of O'Malley by Obama? Wow...that should be the kiss of death for his campaign!!!

Now I know for sure I will NOT be voting for O'Malley.
Ehrlich - you're getting my vote this November.

Martin O'Malley is the worst governor the state of Maryland has ever had and Obama is the worst President since Jimmy Carter. It's no wonder they support each other. They are both inept, tax and spend liberal Democrats and a pair of condescending windbags.

PLEASE PLEASE come help Marty in Martyland Mr Obummer!
You have helped so many in their re-elections you need to give the same help to Martin.

Wow, What a surprise. They really do have alot in common. They are both perfectly good liars, BOY KING has driven Maryland into the ground and B.O. is doing so for the entire Country!

Dear Mike Brown,
When you make a statement about a public official, unless you have evidence to support your claim, your comment lacks validity. Do you have the qualifications to govern the State of Maryland? If not than I think it would be a great idea for you to sit down and write down how you can make the State of Maryland better if you were to be appointed to that position. Your comments are always welcome as a citizen as long as you voice them in a professional respectfull way. To make a statement that you did that I am responding to appears to me to be lacking professionalism and integrity.

HEY MIKE I AGREE WITH YOU, AS FOR SUSAN. IF YOU CANT SEE THE INCOMPETENCE OF THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION IT GOES TO SHOW YOU HAVE NEVER RUN ANY SORT OF BUSINESS, OR EVER BEEN HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR ANYTHING.

Martin O'Malley ran for Governor only as a stepping stone to national office. When he realized that wasn't going to happen, I don't believe that he had a 'Plan B' . The way he has governed this state since that revelation has been truly reactionary. He has not been a visionary or proactive governor. He has pandered to his political base and shrugged off any semblance of being bi-partisan (not that there is much to be had in a one-party state) and seems to be hoping for a second term only to see in what other direction he can go politically.
Having Obama's endorsement only hurts his chances for re-election.

Why doesn't Obama do something about the gulf oil spill?

Dear Susan,
Since you spoke so eloquently about the dear Governor and the President and how Mr Brown was unprofessional in his delivery, I was wondering why you did not give any supporting evidence to prove him wrong. So far in this country, freedom of thought and speech still exists,( not sure how long this will last with the current socialist agenda being pushed), so I am just supporting Mr Brown's right to say what he feels and so do you and thatefore, So do I.

I wonder if President Obama or his staff know of the recent huge settlement awarded to a small percentage of 750,000 victims of Baltimore's "illegal arrest" policy orchestrated by Governor O'Malley when he was mayor of Baltimore. Looks like Delegate Jill P. Carter was right when she warned Baltimore about this problem long ago and was villainized by the then Mayor O'Malley and continues to suffer from his political vendetta, also blindly embraced by the democratic political machine, while O'Malley has served as Governor for exposing him as a bad policy maker from long ago.

Jon Corzine, Creigh Deeds, Martha Oakley, Arlen Specter, Chicago's Olympic bid,,,Martin Owe' Malley.
Perhaps Obama should endorse bin Laden and then we'll capture him.

Susan KaplanRDH, when you want to make a comment on a story, please do so, it shows a total lack of civility and reason to attack another poster for simply expressing their opinion.

Obama....... not the change you were hopeing for. Sorry yet? If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention. Obama and O'malley think everyone should deserve what you worked so hard for.

I agree with Susan - you can't use such a loaded analogy describing someone as "worse ever" without giving actual facts to back it up. That's like me saying Bush was the wrose president since Coolidge or Hoover - or Bob Ehrlich is a bigger fraud than Michael Steele. Lets stick to facts and have a civil debate. Rhetoric and statements like Mike's or the one I just made is the reason why political hacks make it to office in the first place.

Stop pandering to special interest groups, tax unions, cut individual taxes, mandate drug testing for welfare recipients and pay teachers based on an accountability scale.Glad you asked little Suzy.

Oh great - this should be a nail in O'Malleys coffin with Jewish voters. Obama is an anti semite and is in the process of throwing Israel under the bus.
His comment yesterday accusing Israelis of not trusting him because of his middle name illustrates his disrespect for Jews and his utter lack of knowledge of Israel.
Obama is the worst President since Carter. As a lifelong Democrat I am compelled to vote Republican across the board to send the message to our lame Senators, Congressmen and Governor that Obama has to be stopped ASAP.

"Stop pandering to special interest groups"
-Agreed. The NRA has really worn out its welcome.
"tax unions"
-Including Police & Firemen?
You might want to keep this under your hat, but unions are made up of individual employees -who pay payroll taxes.
"cut individual taxes"
?????
"mandate drug testing for welfare recipients"
-Taxpayer subsidies and tax breaks are a form of welfare. Art Modell would have to submit to a lab test.

Thanks, iam7545, as I was going to pose the same circumstances. Why the Jewish community at large voted for NoBama in large numbers escapes me. He was anti-Israel from the beginning and apparently a lot of folks either weren't listening or did not care. Perhaps, as some of my Jewish friends relate, it is because of the 'underdog' mentality that many Jews still have and that seemed to compel them to throw away their votes to NoBama. This Administration is the most non-supportive of Israel of any I can recall and I am in my 60's. Sue, that's a fact.

As a President and CEO of a small company in Maryland, I can tell you that both O's are not qualified to run a lemonade stand. All I have seen is increases in Fees and taxes. For instance one such fee is the $300 filing fee for personal property tax on all corporation.
When Health Care kicks in, I will have to consider dropping the plan that I carry for my employees because of the increase in cost. Has anyone looked at the IRS wording for the tax credits. Family Businesses are screwed as they get no credit.
I have considered, several time, moving to another state, but I have some pretty strong root here. But that does not mean I can't move my company.
Ehrlich was much better at fostering a pro-business environment. And I have news for you guys, without business, you don't have jobs.
Senators Mikulski and Cardin are two more we need to get rid of.

I voted for both these guys last time. I wont be voting for either of them next time around.
Posted by: jmy | July 9, 2010 3:56 PM
I really do hope that Obama endorses and campaigns for O'Malley. If that is the case it would be an immediate victory for Ehrlich. I totally agree with Mike, Obama is worse than Jimmy Carter. Carter was and still is known as a rabid anti semite I just do not get it why jewish people look the other way and vote for a party that is anti jewish and israel. I can tell you this, Ehrlich has got this Jewish boy's vote for sure!! Wake up Pikesville and Bethesda!

Any evidence to back up claims that The President is an Anti-Semite?
Stop and take a moment to think that a 30 billion dollar goody bag of U.S. taxpayer-funded arms might come with some strings attached- namely, don't use them disproportionately on your neighbors without justification.
Tools.

JOCK:
Apparently you just moved into the state of Maryland. The $300 filing fee for personal property taxes has been around at least since they year 2000, well before either candidate was Governor. I know because as vice-president of a Maryland Corporation, I was responsible for writing the checks to pay the fees when the accountant filed our returns. Furthermore, as to fees, again, either you were not here, or you forgot that former Governor Ehrlich DOUBLED vehicle registration fees (most people did not notice because you pay once every two years), and raised certain administrative fees hearing fees from $25 to $125! That is a five-fold increase. Please, you do a poor job of supporting your cause when you show you just don't know what you are talking about because you have your facts just plain wrong.

Vice-Prez:
You are correct.
But I'd like to point out there are MD Counties that do not have a business personal property but a business in that county must still file and pay that $ 300 to the State. When affected counties asked for legislative relief from that requirement the State opposes it.
In transportation it takes a year to get an SHA entrance permit from a State Hwy. This is why MD is not business friendly.

@ Paul_D: Yes, tax unions. It's organized crime at its finest. And those poor souls mandated to pay a premium to collect a paycheck (e.g. kick-back) are being cheated. Police/Fire unions are the only justification. They have to, and do, fight to keep their budgets, etc. All other unions, including teachers' unions are simply funding machines for the democrats. The sole benefit of any of those unions is the teacher's union to defend against whacked out parents. Meanwhile, these same teachers' unions foster the effort of transferring pedophiles from school to school instead of putting them in jail.I'm sure Art Modell would not have had any issue with a drug test. And yes, cut individual taxes - that's why many investors and employers are skipping the state. The millionaire's tax is a major reason for our budget shortfall. I know of one accounting firm which had several clients register to vote and change their domicile to Florida. That one firm translated to a $2,000,000 reduction to income tax to Maryland.

If Obama can walk on water, why can't he walk on oil, part the sea, plug the damn hole and fix the election in Maryland for O'Malley?
