Mikulski, Cardin touring Gulf today

Sens. Barbara A. Mikulski and Benjamin L. Cardin are touring the oil-fouled Gulf coast Friday, getting a first-hand look at damage wreaked by the BP/Deepwater Horzon rig blowout nearly two months ago.

The Maryland Democrats will take a chopper tour over the site where oil continues to pour from the sea bottom. They'll also ride a boat through coastal wetlands where petroleum has washed ashore.

Their plans include meetings with local and federal officials and a press conference in Grand Isle with Louisiana's Republican Sen. David Vitter and Oregon Democrat Jeff Merkley, who are also taking the tour.

Cardin chairs an Environment subcommittee on water and wildlife; Mikulski helms an Appropriations panel that funds the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, currently providing twice-daily weather updates which help officials track the movement of the largest spill in U.S. history.

They aren't the first lawmakers from Maryland to make the rounds of the battered Gulf zone; Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings of Baltimore, who heads a Coast Guard committee, has been there twice.

Sounds like a boondoggle at tax payer expense.

Dear Citizens of Maryland,

The Article states: "Cardin chairs an Environment subcommittee on water and wildlife; Mikulski helms an Appropriations panel that funds the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration… They aren't the first lawmakers from Maryland to make the rounds of the battered Gulf zone; Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings of Baltimore, who heads a Coast Guard committee, has been there twice.”

WHAT A JOKE - Anything to save their jobs! Citizens of Maryland for whatever reason they fell they must spend your money like it belonged to them. Oops – they do think your money belongs to them…

Each one of them is a mouthpiece for the party that fails to follow the Constitution and tax and spends.

Of course the mindless Maryland voters will continue to put these individuals back in office so they may continue their legalized extortion of the taxpayer’s hard earned money to bailout their corporate donors.

There are many of us who do not like big brother telling us we are too stupid to understand government. We understand. We understand that this congress is attempting to socialize our government.

It is time for the PEACEFUL and CONSTITUTIONAL overthrow of this government. Remember your vote counts.

Think About it Maryland

What a waste of Maryland tax payers money! Please, remember this in November! Please!

Low is me. Babs, who can hardly walk and Cardin, who has NOT a clue, will take a chopper tour, ride a boat through coastal wetlands and stand before the camera's via press conference.

Sounds like a Disney vacation to me.

Seams like Babs and the Cardin want a chopper ride on the Tax Payer. Hope you guys vote them out. Ole Babs has been washed up for years.

So sad to read the whiny comments from people who basically sound brain dead. I'm glad my senators are viewing the destruction and hope they come up with some viable solutions since obviously BP isn't right now. Both our senators have done excellent jobs and I for one am happy to continue voting for them

Viewing the spill in person AT TAXPAYER EXPENSE will not give Elijah, Ben or Babs any more help in coming up with a viable solution. There is adequate high definition video available via their office staff computers. AND I EMPHASIZE THE TRIPS ARE PAID FOR BY MONEY THE FEDS MUST BORROW. It adds to the deficit. Anyone codoning these trips is clueless in regard to our catastrophic exploding national debt.

How much do you want to bet the above comment was made by a black person in Maryland. Just exactly what has these Senators done for them? Black people had better wake up. Democrats in Maryland have done nothing for my people but kept them dumb and dependent. They don't read (eventhough now it is that law that they can) and they watch too much MSNBC,CNN etc.

Perhaps it is time that my people realize something is very wrong in Maryland. One party rule begets slavery. Martin Luter King was a Republican, how many black people know that.

I think this was a legitimate expense....They need to see what government inaction and lack of true leadership has allowed to happen in the Gulf oil disaster. This is a truly bitter teaching moment. Government monitoring and regulation needs to take their ample share of responsibility for this disaster. We need to learn this lesson now and plan aheas so that it does not happen again.
